Vroegoggend het me.
“’n Mens dink jy is reg hiervoor omdat jy
Me.

Men face life sentences for killing a policemanSECUNDA - Three men who killed a police of cer on 18 February 2014 were sentenced to life imprisonment each and a further 20 years by the Evander Regional Court on Wednesday, 12 July.
They are Sydney Mashaba (44), Frans Mathibela (45) and Khayelile Welcome Ngubane (38).
They were found guilty for the murder of Const Phumlani Nxumalo (44) who was stationed at the Secunda Area Crime Combating Unit and on 10 other charges, including hijacking, possession of an unlicensed rearm and ammunition, theft of a motor vehicle and robbery.
Const Nxumalo parked his vehicle next to the road in Ext 25 in Kinross when the three men approached him.
They ordered him to get out of his vehicle and when he tried to defend himself, he was hit on the head with the butt of a rearm and he collapsed.
The men sped off in his vehicle before abandoning it in Duba Park in eMalahleni.
Const Nxumalo tried to get up and run for help, but succumbed to his injuries a few metres from the scene and died.
On 19 February the men hijacked a
Bank employee sentencedEVANDER - Tankiso Gerald Radebe (28), a former bank employee, was sentence to 13 years’ imprisonment for fraud.
He was employed in August last year at the bank and transferred money from a client’s account to a fraudulent account without permission from the client.
A few days later, R40 000 was transferred to Radebe’s own private account.
A criminal case was opened and transferred to the Mpumalanga Hawks for further investigation. During the investigation it became apparent that R700 000 was involved in the fraudulent transfers.
According to Maj Gen Mokoena, provincial head of the Mpumalanga Hawks, the succesful conviction and sentencing were a direct result of the diligent work of Deputy W/O Sipho Patrick Nyathikazi who pursued the case.
Maj Gen Mokoena further praised the judiciary for their consistent work in eliminating offenders from the community by imposing tting sentences on them.
woman’s car, took her into bushes where they undressed and left her before eeing with her vehicle.
They also committed a robbery in Middelburg. They were arrested on 20 February and investigations positively linked them to all three cases.
The accused were denied bail and were in custody until their sentence.
The sentences were tabled as follows: Count 1- For the murder, all three were sentenced to life imprisonment. Count 2- Car hijacking, two accused were sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment each. Count 3 - One accused was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment.
eMBALENHLE - Ms Mbalenzinhle Maseko denied and distanced herself from allegations that she abandoned her child in Pienaar, Mbombela (Nelspruit).
She said those who are circulating these allegations, are liars and are seeking to tarnish her image.
This came after the police recently released a press statement that they are looking for her, because she left her child at a day-care centre.
Police alleged Ms Maseko left the child with a 70-year-old granny at the day-care centre and said she was in a hurry to get to work. She said she would fetch the baby after work, however she did not return
According to the police, she allegedly called the granny recently and promised to deposit money so she can buy food for the baby.
Ms Maseko said: “I did not abandon my son, but left him there by agreement and I always go to see him.
“It is unfortunate that I cannot reveal some information on the media platform, because I have to protect me and my son.
“However, the old woman is not telling the truth, I love my son and will never abandon him.
“I do not see a need to explain myself to the public about this, but will follow it up with the police.”
Capt Jabu Ndubane, Pienaar Police Station’s spokesman, said the granny allegedly questioned Ms Maseko on why she did not collect her baby, but she hung up. “Her story does not sound true, however we communicate with her to hear the full version of what had happened.”

eMBALENHLE - The conveners of a legal march had to seek safety at the Secunda Police Station to hand over their memorandum after they were allegedly threatened that they will be shot by a group of men.
They began to gather where the march was going to start in the early hours of Tuesday, 11 June when a group of men were dropped off by a well-known businessman.
They alleged these men were drunk, insulting them and telling them to call off the march because it was not serving the interest of the community.
The conveners believed the people who wanted to disrupt the march were sent by

politicians who felt the march was targeting them.
Mr Mandla Mbatha said fearing for their safety and the safety of the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs of cial who was supposed to receive the memorandum, the conveners arranged that the handover of the memorandum take place at the Secunda Police Station.
In the memorandum, the marchers are demanding the recall of the Govan Mbeki Municipal executive mayor, Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman, and Ms Ethel Nkosi, MMC of Community Services.
They called Ms Maboa-Boltman a “non-executive mayor” and accused her of nepotism, factionalism and arrogance.
They also expressed their dissatisfaction with service delivery in the area, youth empowerment and business people who are friends with some of the local top politicians.
“Service delivery is deteriorating daily in this municipality.
“The roads are full of potholes, while there was a budget for youth cooperatives to x them.
“Sewage, high service rates, electricity and housing are still big problems in our area.”
The memorandum was received by Mr Si so Nxumalo from Cogta.

SECUNDA - Me.
Me.
Me.
Me.

“My hande was in ’n toestand en het soms sommer net begin bloei.
Me.
“Daar is gereeld vir my gesê dat ek mos nou in ’n manswêreld wil wees, so ek moet dié goed dra en dáárdie goed skuif.
“’n Gereelde sêding was: ‘Kom sussie, kom, jy wou mos ’n ambag loop, laat jy dra’.”
Me. Burger het as die beste kwekeling onder die mans en vroue gekwali seer en was die eerste vroulike instrumentwerktuigkundige by Sasol Secunda in September 1990.
Sy is in 2000 as groepleier aangewys.Me. Burger speel gereeld klavier en het ’n
gr. 7 Unisa-klavierkwali kasie.
hulle moet hul grense skuif.”Me. Burger se volgende uitdaging is om
die saksofoon te leer speel.Sy was tot 2016 by verskillende
Me.

SECUNDA - Angry residents from eMbalenhle dumped old electricity appliances such as televisions and fridges, inside Govan Mbeki Municipality’s premises to protest against power outages and poor service delivery in the township on Thursday, 13 July.
They claimed the severe power outages without notices have damaged their appliances.
The protesters demanded to see an of cial of the Department Technical Services.
They claimed they were sick and tired of blaming politicians.
They said municipal of cials are lazy and are not doing their job.
“The of cials must do the job and the politician must oversee it.
“We have noted that most of the of cials are not doing their work, hence we are here and we need them to come to us to explain why they do not do their job.
“They were employed to provide services to the people.”
They said the protest was not politically in uenced and that they were not protesting against certain politicians.
They further realised politicians have forgotten their mandate and are busy ghting one another at the expense of residents.
“This administration is new, but these problems have been ongoing in our area.
“We have now reached the stage that we say enough is enough.
“We cannot fold our arms while our democratic rights are being violated.”
Residents said power outages are not the only problem.
The streets of eMbalenhle are over owing with sewage and the waste is piling up each

if residents do not unite and demand service, things will worsen.”
Mr Anthony Makhaye, MMC of Technical Services, addressed the protesters and said he could not give an answer.
He said he would listen and consult others over the complaints.
He invited the protesters to a meeting that was supposed to be held in eMbalenhle on Sunday, 16 July, however it did not take place.
The residents were up in arms over this and went to the municipal of ces in eMbalenhle and shut down the of ces on 17 July.
They said they would not allow the
eMbalenhle municipal of ces to operate until the directors and managers of the Department Technical Service address them.
The of ces were still closed at time of going to the press.
Mr Bheki Kubheka, municipal spokesman, said the appliances brought by the people were old and it did not seem as though they were damaged recently.
He said the municipality has implemented load shedding so it can control power consumption in the area.
According to Mr Kubheke, the council is working round the clock to nd permanent solutions to the electricity problem in the area.

Me.

KINROSS - The parent of a Grade 1 learner at eMdibini Combined School is still waiting for a response from the Department of Basic Education after her daughter got injured at school on 26 April and was alleged to have been given rst aid by her fellow learners.
The learner was apparently pushed by a Grade 6 learner during break time and was injured behind her ear with a sharp object.
Learners who witnessed the incident, said after the child fell down, the Grade 6 learner instructed her to get up.
Other learners from her grade noticed blood and reported the incident to their class teacher.
The teacher was busy with the school inspector at the time and when she went towards the injured learner, the principal allegedly instructed her to return to the inspector.
The learners ran to their former class teacher and informed her of the incident.
On her arrival, she found the learners were wearing gloves and were trying to give rst aid to the injured learner.
They were apparently instructed to clean the injured learner and to wash her shirt that was stained with blood.
The mother of the injured child con rmed that the child’s shirt was washed at school and that she was sent home wearing a netball jersey.
She said the class teacher phoned her to nd out how the child was doing.
“I told her I was at work and was not aware that anything was wrong with my child.
“I got permission from work to go home.”When she arrived, she saw her child’s
neck and ear were swollen and took her to the doctor.
The doctor said her child was severely injured and was shocked to hear she was
attended to by other learners. The mother visited the school on 2 May. “The principal was very rude when I asked
her what the teachers did after my child was injured.
“She told me she cannot run after my child during the break and they will not use their cars to take my child to the clinic or the doctor.”
The mother added that what made her angrier, was when she asked the principal what would have happened if her child had died at school because they did not want to summon an ambulance or use their cars.
“She said if she had died, she would have been buried. I had to ask her those questions because my child nearly died because the learners were instructed to give rst aid.
“She could also not answer when I asked her whether those learners were trained to do rst aid.”
The mother also wanted to know whether the parents of the learner responsible for the injury was aware of the injuries that her child had suffered.
The principal said she would write a letter and request them to visit the school for a meeting with both parents and the school governing body.
The meeting took place on 8 May between the parents, the principal and the SGB.
The SGB apologised to the mother on behalf of the school, but things turned ugly when the mother wanted to know what measures will be put in place to ensure something like this does not happen again.
“I was told that I think I am better and more educated than those present.
“The SGB even told me to ‘voertsek’.”No comment was received from the
Mpumalanga Department of Education, but inside sources informed the newspaper that the principal received an email from the department instructing her to explain what had happened.

Me.
Me.
Me.
Me.
Me.
welkom.Belangstellendes kan die DBV op
Facebook volg.Skakel hulle by 017 647 5360.

Mashudu helps women live a purposeful lifeLevhuwani Matumba
SECUNDA - Ms Mashudu Mulaudzi is the woman behind the high tea events with the brand name I am a woman, I have a purpose.
Her organisation focuses on heightening the development of women in the community and established in 2016 after she realised that women deal with various challenges daily.
“Women are globally untapped potential.”Ms Mulaudzi regards herself as an
advocate for growth and sustenance of women.
She added that all women have a great existence when they are supported.
Her vision is to develop more con dent women leaders to be equipped and be passionate about leading organisations, businesses, schools and agencies domestically and internationally.
Ms Mulaudzi mentioned that her organisation works to contribute towards a society where women leaders are no longer viewed as the exception to the rule, but as
relevant assets and necessary additions to organisations globally.
“I host seminars, workshops and other events to get women empowered.
“Some do not understand what empowerment entails and therefore fail to see the need to attend these events and mingle with other women.”
Her organisation is also faced with the challenge of getting entrepreneurs or organisations to partner with.
“I run soup kitchens to feed those who have nothing and to give out clothes and food parcels to those who are in need.”
Some of Ms Mulaudzi’s recent projects include spending a day with the Kinross senior citizens where she was trying to understand their daily struggles.
She also raised funds for the struggling day-care centre based in eMbalenhle.
Ms Mulaudzi partnered with other women agencies inside and outside the country, such as Botswana, Zambia and Nigeria.
Besides being an advocate for women, she is a chemical engineer by profession.
Her future focus is to connect with organisations on the continent and to mentor and develop women internationally in all aspects.
Ms Mulaudzi’s future project is a high tea on Saturday, 2 September at Umuzi Lodge in Secunda.
In October she will attend a dynamic women’s conference in Botswana.
Ms Mashududu Mulaudzi recently hosted a fundraising event at Oregon Spur in Secunda in aid of a day-care centre. With her are Mr Nicholas Mashiane (former Mr SA contestant), Ms Lizelle Riekert and Mr Armand Riekert from Spur.
Her future focus is to connect with organisations on the continent and to mentor and develop women internationally

Oksana and HTC offer free mentorshipLevhuwani Matumba
eMBALENHLE - Oksana Safety and Protection has partnered with the Holy Trinity Church to offer free mentorship and coaching to learners.
Classes will be offered every Saturday morning from 9am to 12pm at the Holy Trinity Church.
One of the people who will mentor learners, is Ms Julie Somiah, a BA graduate and director of Oksana Safety and Protection.
Ms Somiah was a school educator for many years and understands the needs and requirements of learners.
She said the reason for taking part in a community project that focuses on the youth and education, is because her previous learners always said they lacked the time, space, resources and educational guidance at their homes.
Children will spend their Saturday mornings under the supervision of mentors and coaches who will assist them with their educational, and other needs that they may have as young and growing teenagers.
Bishop David Mkhize from the Holy Trinity Church said as a parent and a resident, he is also aware of the social situations that some kids nd themselves in.
“Some are raised by single parents and live in poverty.
“Some have a lack of support and there are other things that have an affect on them, such as alcohol abuse, noise and disturbances.”
Mr Darly Somiah from Oksana Safety and Protection said his company will have their
safety of cers and a protection team stationed at appropriate spots to ensure the safety of the children when they go to and leave their classes on Saturdays.
Some of the bene ts are a learning environment for children to complete their homework, mentoring and guidance in problem areas, working in groups, sharing ideas and improving their communication skills.
For more information, contact Ms Somiah at 072 246 2810 or Mr Daryl at 079 491 1828.

SECUNDA - The Secunda Sasol Canoe Club hosted their 13th annual river race on Saturday, 15 July.
The race began at the Trichardtsfontein Dam and after one lap, the paddlers had to traverse 9km of rapidly owing ice cold water to reach the nish line at the Syferfontein Dam.
Every year before the race, members of the canoe club prepare the course by removing debris and hazards from the river and making sure the course is safe.
Canoe club members also act as marshals along the route and are on duty at technically dif cult rapids and obstacles to guide and help paddlers in need.
However, the race still proved too much for some paddlers and there were no less than four broken canoes and two withdrawals due to the cold and the technically challenging nature of the course.
Of the 36 entries, 30 paddlers completed the course successfully and there were no serious injuries.
The men’s winner, Loveday Zondi, is a respected and nationally known paddler from Soweto CC who is also a coach and mentor to many developing paddlers.
He completed the course in 1:13 and has won this race for the seventh time.
River race claims four canoes
The women’s winner is Morgan Ziervogel from JCC Gauteng and Johannesburg CC, who nished in a respectable time of 1:30.
She was 15th overall.
The Secunda Sasol Canoe Club was established in 2000 for the community to become involved in this exciting sport.
Anyone interested in outdoor adventure
sport, can attend try-outs for the club later in the year and there are facilities and equipment available for people interested in joining the club.
Both single and tandem paddlers braved the ice cold water on Saturday, 15 July.
