Others may offer hydrostatic drivetrains in their

dozers. But no other dozer even comes close to

delivering the proven performance and excep-

tionally smooth control you get with the 450J,

550J, or 650J. Power turns, counterrotation,

infinitely variable travel speeds – the J-Series’

enhanced state-of-the-art controls put you in

complete command of a whole arsenal of highly

productive hydrostatic advantages. No wonder

John Deere finish dozers have become owner

and operator favorites. And why they con-

tinue to deliver industry-leading resale value.

Counterrotation is a productivity-boosting

feature that enables the operator to overcome

heavy corner loads and to quickly reposition

the blade on the go. Provides space-saving

spot turns, too.

With optional Integrated Grade Control (IGC), your 650J

Dozer arrives from the factory “plug and play” ready. Its

open architecture design lets you employ the electronic

grade-control system that’s right for you.

These dozers steer the same and maintain their

preset speed whether they’re on level ground

or a 2-to-1 slope. For total control regardless

of the terrain.

Uncommon control, uncompromising results.

Uncommon control, uncompromising results.

State-of-the-art controls

command the full-featured

hydrostatic drivetrain and

six-way blade, ensuring

predictable response at all

times, in all conditions.

Infi nitely variable travel speeds

from standstill to fi ve mph let

an operator choose the right

speed for the job. Travel-speed

range can also be modifi ed for

specifi c applications or terrain

conditions, and even limited to

maximize undercarriage life.

Blade ratio and center

of gravity are optimized,

giving these dozers the

balance needed for

superior grade work.

TMC allows maximum

fl exibility and control, letting

you customize machine

operation to personal

preferences.

Power management takes the

guesswork out of effi cient

operation. Simply set maximum

desired ground speed and the

system maintains peak engine and

power effi ciency without stalling

or shifting.

Infi nitely variable control

lets an operator speed

up or slow power to

each track, for smooth,

full-power turns.

The fully modulated drive-

train ensures smooth starts

and direction changes —

virtually eliminating jerky

and abrupt movements.

Get more done within our comfort zone.

Get more done within our comfort zone.

Generous hydraulic fl ow and

precise metering deliver a

natural “feel” to the T-bar

control that will enhance

any operator’s grading skills.

Blade response is powerful

and quick.

Retractable seat belt,

slip-resistant fl oor mat,

convenient grab bars,

neutral-start lever, and

automatic park brake help

keep the operator out of

harm’s way.

Deluxe-suspension armchair

adjusts seven ways for

daylong comfort and support.

Adjustable armrests and

footrests are standard.

Single lever provides low-effort

control of steering, forward/

reverse travel, and ground

speed. It’s also detented so it

doesn’t require an operator’s

constant touch or attention and

employs a thumb-actuated

travel-speed switch.

Convenient 12-volt

port provides power

for cell phones and

other accessories.

Choose the decelerator

function that’s right for the

job. Slow both ground speed

and engine rpm, or ground

speed only to help maintain

traction without affecting

engine power and hydraulic

response. Fully depressing

the pedal applies the brakes.

Want your operators to be more productive? Put them

in the seat of this spacious air-conditioned cab.

From their ergonomically designed fully customizable

controls to best-in-class visibility, J-Series Dozers

are loaded with everything you need to keep your

operators calm, cool, productive – and on the payroll.

Exclusive TMC lets you

customize decelerator mode

and response, forward/reverse

ground-speed ranges, steer-

ing modulation, FNR shift

rate, and forward/reverse

speed ratios, for unsur-

passed control.

Cab-forward design positions the operator for a more stable ride and a commanding

view behind, below, and beyond the blade. Monitor keeps a vigilant watch on vital

functions and issues visual or audible warnings.

Automotive-type directional

vents deliver warm or cool

air with quiet effi ciency.

Air conditioning is standard

in all cabs. For non-cab

crawlers, an optional

under-seat heater warms

the operator.

High-intensity halogen driving

lights are standard. Or opt

for the factory-installed 360-

degree light package that

delivers superior illumination.

Designed and built with state-of-the-art tools and

techniques by a quality-conscious workforce at

our world-class facility in Dubuque, Iowa, Deere

dozers deliver unsurpassed reliability and uptime.

But don’t just take our word for it. Perhaps the

best way to know what you can expect out of one

is to see what goes into it. When you learn how

they’re built, you’ll run a Deere.

Nothing runs like a Deere, because nothing is

built like one.

seal couplings virtually

eliminate leaks.

One-piece robot-welded main-

frame resists torsional stress,

absorbs shock loads, and

delivers maximum strength

while providing easy service

access to major drivetrain

components.

Engine, hydrostatic pumps,

and hydraulic pump are

bolted to a subframe,

forming an easy-to-remove

powertrain package. It’s

attached to the mainframe

on rubber mounts to isolate

vibration and reduce noise.

Wet sleeve liners provide

uniform engine cooling and

longer durability than cast-

in-block designs.

Large fuel tanks and 500-hour

engine oil service intervals let

you run longer between fi ll-ups

and maintenance.

Sealed transmission

electrical connectors with

gold-plated pins prevent

moisture and contaminants

from entering terminals for

increased reliability.

Standard features such

as bypass start protection,

automatic park brake,

convenient handholds, and

slip-resistant steps help

keep the operator out of

harm’s way.

Heavy-duty triple-reduction

fi nal drives are attached

to the mainframe, isolating

them from track-imposed

shock loads. Seal guards are

built in, not extra cost.

Closed-cell blade design

and robot-welded, fabricated,

box-section C-frame is strong

and durable. Heavy-duty

ball-and-socket joint resists

material build-up for long-

term grading precision.

Standard undercarriage is sealed, lubricated, and built to last.

Available SC-2 extended life track chain delivers up to twice

the bushing life. For reduced operating costs in extremely

abrasive conditions, choose the Maximum-Life undercarriage

system — and get all of the SC-2 advantages, plus larger

track rollers, carrier rollers, idlers, and seals.

If there’s a way to reduce your daily operating costs

and simplify maintenance, we’ve incorporated it

into the J-Series Dozers. Service intervals have

been extended, and same-side service points

help make quick work of the daily routine. Lock-

able doors swing open wide, providing quick

and ample access to dipsticks, vertical spin-

on filters, sight gauges, and maintenance-free

batteries. These and other timesaving features

such as an easy-to-clean undercarriage, quick-

to-replace hydraulic hoses, and designed-in

diagnostics minimize downtime and expense.

PAGES

10–11

Unlike other crawlers that require

a laptop computer, an advanced

diagnostic monitor gives easy-to-

understand messages.

Serpentine belt never

needs adjusting. 500-hour

service interval lets you go

longer between engine oil

changes.

Hinged side shields open wide and provide ground-level access to batteries; master electrical

switch; cold-weather-start aid; and vertical transmission, hydraulic, and fuel fi lters.

The bucks stop here. The bucks stop here.

Vertical fi lters allow quick,

no-spill changes. Engine,

hydraulics, and transmission

utilize a common oil, further

simplifying service.

Remote drive system test

ports help speed trouble-

shooting for increased

uptime and productivity.

Hydraulic and hydrostatic

reservoirs are completely

separated, eliminating

any possibility of cross-

contamination.

Lube bank puts diffi cult-

to-grease C-frame pivots

within easy reach. Periodic

maintenance and lube chart

ensures that nothing gets

overlooked.

With JDLink,™ you’ll know exactly where your dozer is and how

it’s performing. This optional wireless communication system

delivers location, utilization, performance, and maintenance

data to your computer. Helps increase productivity and uptime,

and lower operating costs.

CONTROL OWNING AND OPERATING COSTS

Customer Personal Service (CPS) is part of John Deere’s proactive, fix-before-fail strategy on machine maintenance that will help control costs, increase profits, and reduce stress. Included in this comprehensive lineup of ongoing programs and services are: Fluid analysis program – tells you what’s going on inside all of your machine’s major components so you’ll know if there’s a problem before you see a decline in performance. Fluid analysis is included in most extended coverage and preventive-maintenance agreements. Component life-cycle data – gives you vital information on the projected life span of components and lets you make informed decisions on machine maintenance by telling you approximately how many hours of use you can expect from an engine, transmission, or hydraulic pump. This information can be used to preempt catastrophic downtime by servicing major components at about 80 percent of their life cycle. Preventive Maintenance (PM) agreements – give you a fixed cost for main-taining a machine for a given period of time. They also help you avoid downtime by

ensuring that critical maintenance work gets done right and on schedule. On-site preventive maintenance service performed where and when you need it helps protect you from the expense of catastrophic failures and lets you avoid waste-disposal hassles. Extended coverage – gives you a fixed cost for machine repairs for a given period of time so you can effectively manage costs. Whether you work in a severe-service setting or just want to spread the risk of doing business, this is a great way to custom-fit coverage for your operation. And an extended coverage contract also travels well because it’s backed by John Deere and is honored by all Deere construction dealers. Customer Support Advisors (CSAs) – Deere believes the CSA program lends a personal quality to Customer Personal Service (CPS). Certified CSAs have the knowl-edge and skills for helping make important decisions on machine maintenance and repair. Their mission is to help you implement a plan that’s right for your business and take the burden of machine maintenance off your shoulders.

The 700J outpushes, outmaneuvers, out-everythings

every dozer in the 115-horsepower/12½-ton class.

Its full-featured hydrostatic drivetrain and enhanced

state-of-the-art controls put you in complete control of

a whole arsenal of productivity-boosting advantages

such as power turns, counterrotation, and infi nitely

variable travel speeds. So go ahead and compare.

You’ll discover that no comparable-size crawler even

comes close to offering the same combination of fl exi-

bility, operating ease, or smooth performance.

Equipped with optional Intergrated Grade

Control ( IGC) package, your dozer arrives

from the factory “plug and play” ready.

Open architecture design lets you employ

the electronic grade-control system that’s

right for you.

Infi nitely variable track control lets you speed

up or slow power to either track, delivering

smooth, full-power turns that don’t rob

horsepower or tear up soft terrain.

The 700J steers the same and maintains its pre-

set speed whether it’s on level ground or a 2-to-1

slope. For total control regardless of the terrain.

Maximum control, maximum productivity.

Size matters on large-scale construction sites.

With their superior power-to-weight ratios, 950J

and 1050J simply outpush every dozer in their

class. And do so with less effort. State-of-the-art

controls and full-featured hydrostatic drivetrains

put you in complete command of a whole arsenal

of productivity-boosting hydrostatic advantages

including power turns, counterrotation, infinitely

variable travel speeds, and dynamic braking. With

conventional powershift torque converter drivetrains

and differential steering systems, other crawlers

simply can’t do what a John Deere can.

Serious productivity,easy-going control.

Serious productivity,easy-going control.

Infi nitely variable track control lets an operator

speed up or slow power to either track, for

smooth, full-power turns.

Counterrotation is a productivity-boosting

feature that enables an operator to overcome

heavy corner loads and quickly reposition the

blade on the go. Provides space-saving spot

turns, too.

These dozers steer the same and maintain their

preset speed whether working on level ground

or a 2-1 slope.

Power management

takes the guesswork out

of effi cient operation. The

operator simply sets the

desired maximum ground-

speed and the system

automatically maintains

peak engine rpm and power

effi ciency without stalling

or shifting.

Infi nitely variable speed

range from standstill to 6.8

mph gives total fl exibility

to match groundspeed to

the load. Travel can also be

varied to fi t specifi c applica-

tions, terrain, or operating

preferences — and even

limited to maximize under-

carriage life.

Blade pitch is adjustable

to three mount locations,

for superior performance

in a variety of applications

and materials. Unlike other

dozers, tilt cylinder pitch can

also be set to maintain equal

tilt. A hydraulic pitch option is

available.

Blade curvature gets

material rolling and fi lls

more fully for increased

productivity.

Variable-pitch parallelogram single-or multi-shank

rippers can be angled on-the-go, for

increased productivity.

Take comfort in more productivity.

Take comfort in more productivity.

Like all Deere dozers, state-of-

the-art short-throw, low-effort

blade and speed-in-grip

hydrostatic drivetrain controls

deliver predictable response at

all times.

Retractable seat belt,

slip-resistant fl oor mat,

convenient grab bars,

neutral-start lever, and

automatic park brake help

keep the operator out of

harm’s way.

TMC lets you customize

decelerator mode and

response, forward/reverse

groundspeed ranges, FNR

shift rate, and forward/

reverse speed ratios for

superb control.

Decelerator slows ground-

speeds to maintain speed

and traction without

affecting engine power and

hydraulic response. Fully

depressing the pedal applies

the brakes.

Deluxe suspension high-back

seat adjusts seven ways

for daylong comfort and is

angled 15 degrees to provide

a more comfortable view of

the ripper. Armrests and foot-

rests are also fully adjustable

to fi t any size operator.

Convenient 12-volt port powers cell

phones and other electronic devices.

Air-conditioned and heated

pressurized cab is standard.

Automotive-style directional

vents help keep the glass clear

and interior comfortable.

PAGES

Ergonomically designed

joystick provides intuitive

control of steering, forward/

reverse travel, and ground-

speed. It’s detented so it

doesn’t require constant

attention, and employs a

fi nger-actuated travel-

speed switch.

Wide expanse of glass and exclusive four-post ROPS provide an unsurpassed

commanding view of the blade, ripper, and surrounding jobsite.

Enhanced monitor is front-

mounted, where it is easier

to view while focusing on

the job at hand. Large, easy-

to-read gauges, warning

lights, and icons provide vital

operating info at a glance.

Pilot control and load-

sensing hydraulics deliver

fatigue-beating low-effort

operation and predictable

response, regardless of

the load.

Everybody knows a comfortable operator is a

productive operator. And you’ll find plenty to

increase their efficiency inside this spacious

and quiet walk-through cab. The seven-way

adjustable deluxe suspension armchair, low-

effort intuitive controls, and best-in-class visibility

keep fatigue to a minimum. Plus you get the

little things that help shorten a long shift — such

as adjustable footrests and ample storage

including cup holder and space for a lunch box.

Downtime is a fact of life in this business. Fight

back with the J-Series. Incorporating numerous

traditional John Deere durability features, you

get an exceptionally strong unitized mainframe,

job-proven undercarriage, heavy-duty wet-sleeve

engine, reliable ORFS hose couplings, heavy-duty

high-pressure hoses, and isolated planetary fi nal

drives. Other enhancements such as a variable-

speed hydraulic-driven fan, sealed electrical con-

nectors, and extended service intervals all help

keep you, and your operation, up and running. When

you know how they’re built, you’ll run a Deere.

Oscillating track frames

absorb shock loads, for

lasting durability, better

gradeability, and more

comfort. Plus a smaller

diameter front idler

improves visibility.

One-piece totally welded

mainframe resists torsional

stress, absorbs shock loads,

and delivers maximum

strength. Allows simplifi ed

service access to major

components, too.

Final drives incorporate a

unique oil-fi lled double seal.

If oil escapes past the fi rst

seal, an indicator light in the

cab alerts the operator. It’s

an early warning that helps

avert major fi nal-drive failure

and expense. These dozers were

designed with rippers in

mind. Rear attachment

mounting points are an

integral part of their main-

frames, not add-ons.

Separate engine and

transmission cooling sys-

tems employ hydraulic-

driven fans for superior

cooling effi ciency.

Coolers’ wide fi n spacing lets

trash pass to resist plugging.

Available reversing fan back-

blows cooler cores, further

reducing debris buildup.

Heavy-duty undercarriage

is sealed, lubricated, and

built to last. Its no-non-

sense oval-track design

has only one wear-caus-

ing forward-travel fl ex

point, for longer life.

Half-shell push-beam

bearings make cutting

and welding unnecessary,

so they’re less costly

and time-consuming to

replace.

Wet-sleeve diesels deliver

maximum power at low 1,600

rpm for outstanding reliability.

It’s surprisingly quiet and

exceptionally fuel effi cient, too.

Hydraulic-driven variable-

speed engine fan runs only

as needed, decreasing noise

and fuel consumption.

Servicing big equipment doesn’t have to be a

big production. As with all John Deere dozers,

ease of maintenance and low daily operating

costs are a high priority on the J-Series. Large,

hinged side shields and compartment doors

provide wide-open access to dipsticks, fill tubes,

maintenance-free batteries, and vertical spin-

on filters. Same-side service points make quick

work of the daily routine, and drivetrain service

intervals have been extended. These and other

time-saving features such as an easy-to-clean

undercarriage, quick-to-replace hydraulic hoses,

and designed-in diagnostics help keep downtime

and daily operating costs to a minimum.

Easier maintenance is an open-and-shut case.Easier maintenance is

an open-and-shut case.

Easy-to-read sight gauges provide quick daily checks of

hydraulic, transmission, and fi nal-drive seal fl uids. Monitor

signals an alert should fi nal-drive seal levels drop.

Vertical spin-on fi lters allow quick, no-spill changes.

Engine, hydraulics, and transmission utilize a

common oil, further simplifying service.

Convenient lube and periodic maintenance chart

ensures that nothing gets overlooked.

PAGES

10–11

With no need to disconnect linkages, hydraulics, or wiring,

the operator station tilts in only minutes. For wide-open

access to drivetrain and hydraulic components.

Remote drive-system test ports and available fl uid-

sample ports simplify preventive maintenance and

troubleshooting for increased uptime.

Perforated hood and side screens act as a “fi rst fi lter,”

preventing entry of most debris. Side-by-side wide-fi n

radiator and charge-air cooler resist plugging.

Smooth idler-to-sprocket

covers shed material, and

wide space between the track

frames and mainframe further

eases clean-out.

Environmental drains on

fl uid compartments help make

changes easier and less messy.

Five-hundred-hour engine oil

and 2,000-hour transmission

and hydraulic fl uid intervals de-

crease downtime and expense.

Advanced diagnostic monitor

provides easy-to-understand

messages, for quick trouble-

shooting without special tools.

Large hinged doors provide

ample access for daily checks

and periodic maintenance.

Daily checks are limited to

hydraulic oil and engine oil

and coolant levels.

Essential maintenance items

such as engine coolant,

fuel pre-cleaner and fi nal
