Reflections A must read . . . . . . .. . . . . . . .Book Reviews.

Nothing Comes Easy Dear Friends. . .

A student author? Now where do I

start? Well let me start by just

exclaiming how awesome and

cool it is to be able to brag to all

your friends about YOU being an

author at such a young age. But

these bragging rights come at

quite an expensive price, as one

has to spend HOURS formulating a

s t o r y , g o o d e n o u g h t o b e

accepted by the mentors. After

you do get a good basis for a story, it is quite hard to

write the story. Still, it requires a lot of hard work,

perseverance and above all PATIENCE. “Patience is

virtue”. Going through this transition made me

experience and practise all of these qualities and much

more.

Was this entire experience worth the toil? YES!

When I held the published book in my hand for the first

time, it felt magical and ethereal. I would repeat this

entire experience again if I have to, just so that I can

cherish the feeling once again.

Divergent Series

I read the series by Veronica Roth because I wanted to know why the world was going crazy about it . Divergent is written from the point of view of a sixteen year old girl, Tris Prior, who is trying to figure out where she fits in. The world created by Veronica Roth is divided into five factions—Abnegation (the Selfless), Dauntless (the Brave) ,

Amity ( the Peaceful) Erudite (the Intelligent) and Candor (the Honest). The book is about trying to know where you fit in, who you are and what is wrong and right, something everyone deals with in life.

The Fault in Our Stars

If you are fed up of zombies, drama, irony or

complicated novels, then 'The Fault In Our

Stars' by John Green is for you! A fun filled,

thrilling, heartbreaking, emotional book

that makes you laugh, cry and come back

for more! An insightful, bold book…filled with humour

and tragedy! I enjoyed reading it.

The Diary of a Young Girl

In June 1942, teenaged Anne Frank and

her family went into hiding in a warehouse

to escape Nazi oppression. Anne Frank's

diary, in its pages records the tale of life in

hiding during World War II. The beautifully

written diary is a treat to read. A rare

gourmet is what it is –searched by the

readers. We should learn to be brave and

never forget to dream, that is what the diary teaches. The

only thing which enabled Anne to live through the

sufferings, were her dreams. A vivid description of Anne

Frank's experiences makes it a must-read.

Service Before SelfOur motto enmeshed in our every day class room teaching.

An experience which made me

emotionally strong ...

Blood donation camp is not about donating blood but is

about connecting people for a cause. Believe me friends,

when I helped my parents during these camps the

immense satisfaction that I got by doing my bit for the

society was fathomless. Of course I cannot give life but at

least I can save a life. This experience made me

emotionally strong and I felt like a responsible citizen of

this country. I have made a promise to myself that I will

celebrate my eighteenth birthday by donating blood.

LOOK UP !

Somethings which make you smile

Let them be there for a while

Friends who make you laugh

No matter, times be easy or hard

Words which make you stop crying

And look upon mistakes as things

that were worth trying

Look up and smile!

Someone who makes you happy as a child

Creating memories, crazy and wild

Those people are treasures,

Never leave them alone

You have but one life

Seize the moment and live it !

True Learning. . .

It was a wonderful experience which touched my heart.

Tapasvi, is a family friend of our neighbour. I saw him

whenever he came for a visit, but never actually had a

chance to interact. He had to appear for his board exams

and wanted a writer because he is differently abled.

When my neighbour asked me to be his writer for the

board exams, I was like, “wait, what?”, “me a writer?”,

“could it really be possible?!.....oh no how could it be!” But

it was meant to be. I didn't know what to say. I was filled

with a feeling of happiness. At first it was not very easy to

comprehend his speech. I knew I had to be composed and

patient. Gradually things settled down.

On the first day of the paper I was quite nervous. I was

afraid about missing on words, the anxiety of the time

limit and so on. I was more conscious than my own paper

or exam. As the board results were declared in the

summer break I was overjoyed when Tapasvi topped his

exams. Today I truly feel humbled and empathetic by this

enriching experience.

Teaching at Shiksha Kendra was quite a different

experience for me. My friends and I taught English in

class VIII. I could see the sincerity and the enthusiasm

the education they were receiving.

commitment towards education.

Success not only depends upon a person but the surrounding environment also plays a great role. All roads that lead to success have to pass through hard work boulevard at some point. Parents, teachers and friends helped me at every step on this way. They not only lifted my spirits whenever I felt despondent but also made me realise the importance of hard work and punctuality. Without them I couldn't have scored such marks. 'I can do this!' is what kept me going.

Around the world ....Trips and Visits. Gujarat – a Flavour of Tradition and Modernity

You only get to know a place when you explore it. It was the

first time I had been to Gujarat on a school trip and was amazed

by the beauty of the place. It gave the students the much

needed exposure. From heritage to modernity, the pages of

history unravelled themselves.

We first stepped into Gandhi Ashram and experienced the

philosophy of Gandhiji's life. Bapu's values and ethics

impressed each one of us. Vallabhbhai Patel Museum was also

equally educative. The Science City with the virtual spaceship

was a thrilling experience. We even went to a room which gave

us the sensation of an earthquake. We visited the Gir forest and

saw the wild life including the Asiatic Lions, deer, etc. The thing

that caught everyone's attention was that a lion was issued a

pink card for his indiscipline. Incredible –isn't it? The King of the

forest being punished by a human! The Gujarat trip was a fun

filled learning experience for all Dipsites .

ISA: Nurturing Global Citizenship

The International School Awards is a programme run by the British Council to accredit schools as having an

outstanding level of support for nurturing Global Citizenship in young people. ISA projects were initiated in DPS

Jaipur for students of all age groups ranging from classes III – XII. Students researched and gathered information

on the topics like Comparative Study of Indian Climate and Cuisine with that of China, UK and Germany, Exotic

Plants of India, Sri Lanka and Nepal and so on. The research work helped students to prepare soft boards and

meticulous power point presentations on ‘Health and Obesity’. Children also prepared scrap books on the staple

food of other countries. These activities gave students a better understanding of Global Culture and Citizenship.

An Interaction to Cherish….

In the month of April our school participated in the ISA SKYPE SESSION. For this gripping session we researched about

the climate and cuisines of other countries and shared our findings with the students of other nations in a live

conversation via Skype. Through this session, we not only got to know about the culture and tradition of various

countries but also got an opportunity to interact informally with our global friends. This learning experience was a step

forward towards Vasudheva Kutumbakam or Global Citizenship. It was my first exposure at the global level. I look

forward to many more such opportunities and I thank my teachers for their efforts in making this happen.

Let's Talk Nature...Are we ready for the R's?

When the Unit on Environment was taught in my English class, four

words fell in my ears loud and clear: REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE and

RECYCLE. The four R's – the golden principle, a road with

conservation as its destination. In my reflections I thought that 'R'

has suddenly perched higher than the other letters of the alphabet. It

has become a pivotal point around which the very existence of life

revolves. On one hand, I hear the wake up call from the four buddies

of REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE and on the other hand are

the three academic 'R's – 'Reading', 'Writing' and 'Arithmetic'.

Our connect with these 'R's will determine our real progress. Both

'R's are complementary to each other. We are the place of confluence

for all 'R's. If we do not incorporate the principles of REFUSE,

REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE in our life, then the annihilation of the

Earth and its bounties is certain. Then, where is the opportunity for

Reading, Writing and Arithmetic? Let the paradigm of Reading,

Writing and Arithmetic shift from churning material wealth to the

real wealth, the conservation and preservation of Mother Earth for

posterity.

SPORTS ROUND UP

MY PASSION . . .

Come the games period and there is a euphoria in the class. Everybody is

excited and enthusiastic to reach the games field without any delay. Sports

and games stimulate growth, help to develop a good posture and enhance

blood circulation. But the reality is that most of us are stuck between

sports and academics. There is a pressure from all quarters to perform well

in academics and then pursue one's interest in sports. But believe me my

friends, it is just a matter of time management, which if managed well can

give you enough space to balance the two.

I am a good athlete myself with an ambition to become a doctor. I have

been able to cope with and balance my passion and academics. My field

experiences have helped me to become more adaptive to the challenges of

life and build my confidence with sufficient collaborative skills. Dear friends,

if anything is needed it is just a wise implementation of a time schedule.

The most memorable moment of my life was when I won the State Badminton

Championship. I took to playing Badminton at the age of eleven inspired by Saina

diligence. It has imbued in me so much of positivity that I feel empowered to face the

critical situations in life. What has boosted my morale and confidence has been the

winning of seven Gold Medals and three Silver Medals at the district level. Playing the

SGFI was another landmark achievement in my career. Badminton may or may not

become my profession but will always remain my passion.

95 students from 12 Delhi Public Schools of Zone 5 participated in this mega event under two categories Solo (Indian Classical) and Group (Folk Song). The audience were mesmerized by the melodious performances of the budding singers. The Chief Guest Mr. K.C. Maloo and the Judges for the event Mr. S.S. Pandey, Prof. Dr. Maya Rani Tak and Ms. Parveen Mirza highly appreciated the participants. Principal Ms. Sangeeta Kain expressed her concern to re-establish classical music in schools, which is increasingly losing its patrons to western music forms.

DPS Bopal (Ahemdabad) bagged the first prize in the Solo Category and DPS Jaipur was declared the winner in the Group Category.
