Monsoon Greetings!!!

August season brings in even more diverse, exciting activities with more rains

coming in. Month of August was full of fun, frolics and celebrations. Lot of

learning happened in a fun way. The interschool quiz competition ---

“ARANYA” and online quiz that happened on Independence Day are a few

examples. Now, let’s enjoy relishing the hot celebrations, activities and

learnings which happened this month in the Paradise block.

Pre-Nursery

Nursery

• Indian flag was made with ice cream sticks. Learners actively participated in the activity and

expressed their enthusiasm in learning about their nation and national flag.

• Students participated in Rakhi celebrations. They were told about the importance of Raksha

Bandhan festival and why it is being celebrated. Children were very happy to tie up handmade

Rakhi’s to their classmates.

• Learners participated in number fishing activity. They were asked to identify a number and

pick the same from water tub using fishing net.

To introduce the concept of tens and ones, children were given colorful ice cream sticks for counting 1

to 10. They have arranged the ice cream sticks in an order from 1 to 10. Children enjoyed counting,

later they arranged the sticks in different shapes like triangle, square and rectangle.

Concept of ‘0’ --- Children were given two bowls one filled with lollipops and the other with ‘0’(zero)

objects. They counted the lollipops and understood that the other bowl without any objects is counted

as ‘0’ (zero). They enjoyed the activity and were also comparing the number of lollipops with their

friends.

Prep

National Symbols were introduced through National Symbols day Competition, where children wore

and spoke about the importance of National Symbols. Also, respecting values was inculcated in the

children in oral sessions. Children were introduced to the country, state, city and the neighbouring

countries of India.

The experiences children have in their first five years have tremendous impact on the development of

their brains. Delhi Public School, Nacharam, organized an innovative, interactive platform – “ARANYA –

THE KNOWLEDGE TREE” on August 18, an interschool quiz competition for the students of preprimary.

25 schools have participated across the twin cities. The event witnessed breath taking performance by

all school children. It was truly amazing watch the children, who were so confident, knowledgeable and

observant.

Montessori teaching methodologies and equipmentsbenefit the children to think critically and

work collaboratively.They develop order, coordination, concentration and independence. During

the Montessori week the children participated in the activities like – buttoning the shirt, sorting the

grains, etc. with great interest and enthusiasm.

The Sylvana’s of Paradise block had happy play time in the fresh air, with sensorial development on Vehicle Wash Day. Cleaning is a great life skill to practice early on!, as a sense of responsibility, independence, pride in being helpful, are built. Also, it enhances hand skill development like grasping, strength, bilateral coordination – scrubbing, wiping and squeezing. Sensory experienced by our children –

➢ Tactile-Kinesthetic Sensory Fun:-

• Getting hands, fingers and arms immersed in the water (cold, bubbly).

• Squishing and squelching the sponge texture (soft). • Lots of moving about during the activity. • Scrubbing the dirt off the school bus with a bit of force and effort.

Every child was dressed up according to the theme. The day was very apt to teach the children

about our national symbols. Children were dressed as our national symbols and spoke about it.

The much awaitedPre-Independence Day was celebrated

with lot of pomp and splendor. The Pre-Independence Day

Celebration was started by our cute little angels, playing the

Xylophone(instrumental) with song performance going hand

in hand. Beautiful inspiring speeches were given by the

preprimary children which made the celebration even more

special.

“Raksha Bandhan” also popularly known as “Rakhi” was celebrated with high spirits to create the awareness and

importance of the Indian festivals.

In the common assembly, the teachers narrated a story about two friends, to explain why Rakhi is celebrated.

They also performed the ritual of tying handmade Rakhi.

Later in the classrooms, the children enjoyed tying handmade Rakhi’s to each other.

Our Health Minister, Manvitha from Prep ‘O’ is on nutrition check list duty on a daily basis

and says that, “Eat healthy food, avoid unhealthy/ junk food.” Our health Minister, Sannidhi

Sen, from Prep ‘G ‘, says,” Eat Healthy, Stay Healthy! ”

Krishna Janmashtami, also known as Gokulashtami, krishnashtami or otherwise simply known as Janmashtami, is an occasion celebrated in honor of Lord Krishna’s birth anniversary every year. Kids of paradise were dressed as Radhas and Krishnas and reminded us of the brindavan. The dance performance and song enactment by teachers and kids were the highlights during the special assembly of Janmastami.

Choosing the Right Game at Every Age – Carrom board, an eastern Indian subcontinent origin game,

was introduced for all nursery children. Aswe need to teach values, ethics, academic skills, and the

importance of playing by the rules, in the early years, the primary goals of the carrom board game,

helped the children to be more self-confident, ambitious while enjoying playing with their peer group.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES:

Pre-Independence Day- 14th August Children came in White Kurta Paijama

and tri coloured duppatta. The celebrations commenced with a powerful speech on “Women

Enpowerment” in India followed by a patriotic song. Moving on, students presented a Mime

Act on the theme “Respect Our National Flag”. The concluding dance performance brought

the spirit of freedom and nationalism alive.

Say no to Junk Food- This theme based Assembly was conducted by Class-I. It was

very informative and effective. Students spoke in an articulate and expressive manner.

Health Based Assembly: 8th August Inkeeping with our theme-based assemblies, Class-II students showcased the merits of

cleanliness in all facets of our daily lives.

Rakhi Making Activity: 21st August The class activity ensured 100% participation. The students made beautiful Rakhis to

commemorate the festival.

National Sports Day:

29th August Students spoke about famous sports

Language Week: 30th August As a part of the Language week, Hindi and Telugu language celebrations were conducted

on consecutive days. Children gave speeches, recited poems and sang songs to show the

importance of the different languages.

To familiarize the children with the colours of our National Flag, they were asked to bring

Primary Class 3 & 4 Pre-Independence Day Celebrations

'Carried with care, coated with pride, Dipped in love, fly in glory, Moments of freedom in shade of joy.' The same patriotic fervor was seen in the little hearts of DPS, Nacharam on occasion of pre Independence Day. Students of class 4 showcased their love for their country through a special assembly. The Hindi department trained the students to enact a breath taking play. An anecdote from the life of Bharat Singh was taken. Another exciting show was a mesmerizing dance performance. The love for mother India was clearly seen when the choir sang the song "mera rang de basanti chola".The prelude to Independence Day was apt. The programme concluded with the valuable words of HM ma'am. She told the importance of independence to the young minds and the future of India.

Independence Day Celebrations The fervor of independence and freedom is all over the school, a spectacular show of 72nd Independence Day .On this special day the children from 3 &4 have shown their excellent Oratory skills by giving a monologue on freedom fighters like Jhansi Laxmi Bai, Alluri sitaramaraju

Special Assembly

An assembly on 21-08-2018 on the topic 'Ek bharat shreshta bharat' -the state of being free within society free from restrictions by authority. Assembly started with Prayer, thought for the day followed by Unity in Diversity Skit and Quiz on quotes by famous Indian leaders

Haritha Haram DPS, Nacharam has always promoted greenery and nurtured nature. The first phase of Haritha Haram Started on August 8, 2018 in our school. The mass plantation in the campus was a treat to the eye. An awareness programme and plantation in Government School by green crusaders of grade 3 & 4.

Language week 'Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going. '

Inspired by these words 'Language week ' started in DPS, Nacharam. The special assembly had children who showcased the importance of language in one's life s .The young learners felt proud while talking about their national language Hindi and their mother tongue Telugu. Students dressed as famous personalities of great poets, orators, writers. The dance and music performance was mesmerizing. Children dressed in colourful traditional attire looked like colours of rainbow spread on the stage. The highlight of the show was nukkad natak. Vigyapan and monologue by Sarojini Naidu. The message to respect and love our culture, language was well said.

Teacher training programme Prospective of teachers play an important role in establishing the literary proficiency of future

generations. A workshop on “Role of Reading habits to improve Academics performances” was

conducted for teachers to help students to develop healthy reading habits that lasts for life time

New Initiatives

Good Wishes Wall Good wishes was inaugurated with students posting prayer messages for the Kerala flood victims. In the

future the Wall would be used for affirmation messages for their friends, family, society and nation.

Rang Manch –Open Theatre

Rang Manch – An Open Theatre by the students of Dramatics club was inaugurated to

provide an informal platform for the budding theatre loving students. The organising

committee of students prepare their own scripts and plays and present them totally by

themselves in the lunch break as a theatre show(on the lines of nukkad natak. The theatre

was inaugurated with an awareness skit on breaking the gender bias titled “Work has No

Gender”. The show ran to packed audiences with students flocking to see this novel initiative

after quickly completing their lunch.

Welcome Monitors

Another new initiative wherein students those who reached early to school take up the onus

of welcoming their classmates to school using a smile, along with an interesting hand gesture

like a high five or a Namaste or a handshake. Their other responsibilities also include

monitoring students arrival and discipline in the class room till all the children settle for the

morning bell.

At Mahendra Hills Academics is fun as a lot of learning happens in the play way

method.

Bonalu Celebrations- Children are asked to wear traditional dress on this day. Teachers

prepared sweet rice and distributed it to the students

With the guidance of the teacher, children will make 2 or 3 small handmade cards and gift it to their friends.

Bike- a- Thon held on 10th August was a real hit with the students. They cycled for about

20 to 30 minutes. It was a new experience for them cycling with their friends.

Pre Independence day celebration-

Apart from why the Independence day is celebrated, the students took part in the fancy dress,

the theme being National Symbols. Students talked about what they were and this way a lot

of indirect learning took place.

Singing patriotic songs

Maria Montessori Week was celebrated for a week between 13th to 17th August. Children

took part in different sports, relays, puzzles and a lot more.

Another important festival celebrated was Bakrid. Why and how it is celebrated was

explained during assembly.

Rim Jim Day was another day of fun where the children walked in the “rain” wearing

raincoats or using umbrellas

Inter School competitions - There were opportunities given to the students to participate in

Interschool competitions.

Two of our students represented the school for the Inter school quiz competition Aranya at

Nacharam. The team stood first and got cycles as the first prize.

We had sent students to Nadergul for participation in sports competition – Udhbhav

At Mahendra Hills we had Hakuna Matata, It’s Just Fun where 12 schools participated in

the Sports Meet. Very interesting races were planned and the students and teachers just loved

every moment of the sports meet.

Primary:

Inter-House Quiz Competition – The quiz competition was for class 1&2 and for class3 to

5 as another group. The house mistress chose the team from the results of the prelims held.

For class 1&2 the winners were the Topaz team and for 3 to 5 the winners were also the

Topaz team.

Social Science Week

Pre-Independence Day Celebration

Haritha Haram: Was organized in and around the campus. It was flagged of by

Mr. Srinivas, Additional DCP- North Zone and his team graced the occasion wherein our

esteemed guests planted saplings in the school ground. Our school chairman Mr. Komariah,

Headmistress Mrs. Kiran Khanna, staff and students participated in the programme.

The chief guest administered an oath to the students wherein the young Dpsites pledged to

protect the environment and plant as many trees as they can for a greener future. The

students also showcased a thought-provoking skit on the importance of trees.

The chief guest urged the students to lend their hand in protecting Mother Nature and

applauded the school’s efforts in imbibing the values of sheltering trees and maintaining the

ecological balance. In his address to the gathering, Chairman Mr. Komariah stressed upon

the importance of our green friends and encouraged the Dpsites to work towards a greener

and cleaner environment. He expressed the hope that plantation of trees would find solution

for many problems plaguing our society.

This year our school prefects donated 500 saplings to a Government school near Addagutta.

Around 1000 saplings were distributed to parents on Independence Day. Trees were planted

around the school premises on that day The school plans to plant more trees along the

Mahendra Hills road leading towards the school and also on parallel roads.

During assembly time, the festival of bonalu was explained to the students.

Students dressed up in different Indian culture costumes such as Parses, Maharashtrian,

Andhra and many more as part of the Social Studies week

Independence Day Celebrations at DPS - Mahendra Hills

Delhi Public School, Mahendra Hills celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with great

patriotic fervor and enthusiasm. The Principal Mrs. Sunita Rao and Head Mistress Mrs.

Kiran Khanna unfurled the national flag. Addressing the august gathering the Principal

urged parents to take up the responsibility of inculcating the spirit of patriotism amongst

children and stressed that, ‘Freedom is to do the right things in a right way’.The theme for

the Independence Day celebration was “Spirit of Freedom”. Topics such as “Freedom from

Gender Bias, Freedom from being prejudiced and Freedom from Corruption” were

showcased by the students in the form of an English monologue, Telugu poem and Hindi

hasya kavita. The school choir enhanced the spirit of patriotism by singing ‘Bharat Humko

Jaan se Pyaara Hai’ that awakened everyone’s love towards the motherland.

Pre Primary and Primary students also participated in the celebrations. Children came

dressed as national symbols and freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu and

Rajendra Prasad to name a few. The students paid tribute to the freedom fighters by speaking

a few lines about them with pride and respect.

The program ended with mass aerobics for all students. It was heartening to see the parents

also join in along with their children in keeping themselves fit. The slogan “Hum fit toh

India fit” echoed throughout the ground. The program ended with tree plantation and the

parents were given a sapling to take home.

Naipunya:

Delhi Public School – Mahendra Hills, organized its 2nd Inter-school competition titled

“Naipunya- A Rhapsody of Art Forms” on 4th August, 2018. Around 700 students from 20

schools of the twin cities participated in the event from Class 1 to Class 8. Children took

part in a total of 17 events which were divided into 4 categories namely Art Attack, Rhythm

Divine, Magic of Anklets and Step up Revolution. The Chief Guest for the day was Mr.

Dennis Powell, a renowned jazz pianist and conductor. He encouraged students to

participate and gain substantial experience, showcase their skills, analyze and evaluate

outcomes and uncover personal aptitude. The event was also attended by Mrs. Gowri of

DPS, Nacharam. The event was initiated by our Head Mistress- Mrs Kiran Khanna who

welcomed the participants from different schools along with their teacher coordinators. Our

esteemed guests and judges who came from exceptional backgrounds and varied

experiences in the fields of music, dance and art were greeted with utmost gratitude and

welcomed with a token of appreciation. The day concluded with the valedictory function

wherein the effort put in by the students was duly recognized by felicitating the winners

with Gold, Silver and Bronze mementos and certificates. The Naipunya Rolling Trophy for

the year 2018-19 was won by DPS, Nacharam. Other participating schools were not left

behind in achieving awards in various categories.We are sure that the concerted efforts of

our dedicated school team headed by our H.M ma’am, comprising of staff at all levels i.e.

academic as well as non-academic and our active and versatile DPSites have paid off well.

We were happy to spot the vibrant faces of the participants and winners walking out of the

venue brimming with happiness and pride. It was a wonderful experience for everyone

present.

Donation for Kerala Flood Victims -

We thank the parents for the generous donations during the collections for Kerala floods.All

the donations from the 3 branches of DPS and 6 branches of PMS were collected at PMS,

Gandipet from where it was flagged off to Kerala. Our 15 students and 1 teacher represented

our school.

Workshop:

On the eve of the launch of 6th edition of International French Spell Bee 2018, The Meridian

School, Hyderabad and Le Frehindi , Paris invited the French teachers working in CBSE

schools, hyderabad for a one-day interactive workshop on Dt: 18-08-2018 - “classroom

activities and games to increase French vocabulary and listening skills using the APPPP

method “ by Mr. Haru Mehra , Le Director of “ Le Frehindi”. Our French teacher Mrs.Usha

Ramani attended the workshop.

Level: Middle School (VII & VIII)

Curricular: The syllabus for the half yearly exams continued as per schedule. PA1 tests

were completed and syllabi for some subjects were completed by the end of the month.

Remedial and Enrichment classes continued as per schedule.

Young Innovators Competition – Inter House competition: An interesting and exciting

inter-house competition ‘Young Innovators Competition’ was conducted for the students of

the middle school. The theme was related to Science and Art. The students made exciting

innovations using recyclable materials.

Teen Chef Inter House Competition: It was an exciting time when the Inter- house Teen

Chef Competition was conducted for the students. Master Chef Ajay Chopra was invited as

the Chief Guest and he was floored by the innovative and nutritious items showcased by the

students.

Social Week: Social Week was celebrated grandly with the theme being Woman Empowerment.

Students showcased the role played by prominent women across the world and did a meaningful role play.

Boys were made aware of the respect needed to be given to women in all walks of life.

Assembly: Special class assemblies were continued from Monday to Thursday on value systems. The

focus of the month was on Ethical Values as the Half Yearly exams were approaching. Students performed

role plays on the need to be honest during exams. The class teacher and the Vice Principal reiterated the

same while speaking to students.

ACADEMICS

Students of Psychology Class XI visit Pre-Primary as part of Field Work:

A group of 64 psychology students of grade 11

visited the pre-primary block on the 27th August,

2018 as part of their study trip to enhance their

theoretical knowledge. There were 15 nursery

sections and a group of 4-5 students were sent to

each nursery class to observe the cognitive

functions of the nursery graders. The students

were prepared with various activities and also got

testing material to study the cognitive development. Students could relate to the concepts like egocentrism, centration,

animism, and reversibility, span of attention and gender role stereotypes.

SMTE (Science and Math Talent Examination) is conducted by DPS Society every year in the month of November. Class

IX students write the test for 100 marks and two hours. School is the venue for the conduct of the test. Classes IX A and B

(IIT sections ) are given training by the IIT faculty. Toppers in math and science of other sections of classes IX C to P are

selected and given training every Monday after school from 3.30 to 5.15pm. Last years question papers will be given to all

the students for practice. Test is written by all the students of classes IX A to B.

16TH AUGUST – Session for class IX CWSN

A special session was taken by Ms. Sai

Swaroopa (Special Educator) &

Ms.Rishitha (School Counsellor) of the

health and wellness dept. for Class IX

(CWSN). The topic was Academic

Concerns, CBSE Guidelines and the

process of Concession. Principal, Ms.

Sunitha Rao also addressed the students & parents and apprised them about the CBSE norms and the academic choices

available for the children.

All the HODs and Coordinators were addressed by the Principal Mrs.Sunitha S Rao with regard to details of making a Blue

Print as part of the CBSE assessment. The task sheets were made by different subject groups. The enriching experience was

well appreciated.

18TH AUGUST - Field Trip to Gandhi Medical College Expo Class XI & XII

The 11th and 12th grade students of DPS, Nacharam had the privilege to attend AEGIS, the Annual Inter -medical

Symposium at Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad on 18th August, 2018. It was an exciting experience for the students

of Biology as it allowed them to take a closer look at the world of medicine. The young aspiring doctors had an opportunity

to witness, learn and gain an understanding by the expert doctors and scientists about Robotic surgery and Genomics in

Medicine, the recent advancements in technology which made minute incisions possible. The visit to the Anatomy and the

Forensic Labs of the college provided a deep insight to the exposure to science and health research.

25TH AUGUST – Yuva Sangharsh 2018- Swami Vivekananda Youth Leadership Award

On the 25th of August, 2018 “Yuva Sangharsh

2018” was conducted at Vivekanand Institute of

Human Excellence – Hyderabad. Many students

from across the city took part actively. The students

were addressed by the finalists of previous editions

of yuva sangharsh - Vishal (Bhavans), Anirudh

(DPS), Shreyam (DPS), Srinija and Aishwarya

(DPS) and also by Mr.Srinivas (HR manager), T. R.

Ganeshan (devotee). The objective was to enlighten

the students about the difference between gharshana and sangharshana, and also to apprise them the different levels in

which the contest would proceed and would be conducted mostly on 5 Saturdays. The event ended with guruji quoting

Swami Vivekananda – “Competition brings out envy” and thus instructing the students not to have any competition but

focus more on how to familiarize with oneself.

TEACHER ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP AT DPS NADERGUL: 25.8.2018

Facilitators: (H.O.D Math DPS), (Sr Social Faculty), (Sr Biology faculty), (HOD Hindi).

The significant gap between content and pedagogy delivery needs to be identified by every school and immediate steps are

to be taken to address this problem for a better child education. In order to bridge the gap it is imperative to bring about a

change in the way subjects are taught. DPS Nacharam and Nadergul have identified this major gap and felt the need for

Teacher Training and in this context arranged for a Teacher Exchange Programme and Workshops by the Senior faculty of

Nacharam. The work shop gave the teachers a platform to learn interesting innovative activities which integrates with every

subject. Teachers were highly contended with the rich learning experience and were enthusiastic to deploy their learnings

in their class rooms.

HEALTH & WELLNESS DEPARTMENT – TRAINING AT DPS NADERGUL

The session started with introduction of the Health & Wellness department at Nacharam. The roles and responsibilities of

School Counselors, Special educators and Career Counselor was shared. Brief introduction about Ms. Swaroopa and self

(Rishitha) was shared. Life skills classes’ introduction and 10 core life skills were discussed. The role of a teacher and how

to hold one- self before taking up students was highlighted. The varied clubs at primary level was shared. Teachers were

made to understand why it is important to impart values in children and how it shapes an adolescent behavior and in turn

how it leads to a fulfilled adulthood. Ms. Gladys’s work was discussed. Her IEP’s were looked into and suggestions were

given. The support extended to students were discussed at length like extra time, no separate paper for CWSN, modifications

in IEP report and registers to be maintained to have a cumulative list of students and their growth.

CO-CURRICULAR EVENTS

KERALA FLOOD RELIEF: “Helping hands are better that praying lips” – Mother Teresa

In the hour of great adversity for our brothers and sisters in

Kerala, our heart goes out to the people who suffered the

nature’s fury. Our lips are filled prayer but hands are ready

to help. DPS, Nacharam extended its helping hand to the

people of Kerala by providing relief to the state.

1ST AUGUST- TCS IT WIZ 2018

The students of classes 9, 11 and 12 represented DPS Nacharam in TCS IT Wiz 2018, the biggest inter-school IT Quiz in

India for students at Bharati Vidya Bhavan, King Koti on 1st August, 2018. 10 teams comprising of 20 students of DPS

Nacharam took an active participation. 450+ teams from all over Hyderabad participated in the quiz. The questions were

oral and visual which were focused on global view of the IT industry.

4TH AUGUST- Master Chef Chopra – “Big Daddy Chef Competition” & Session with Class XI & XII

The culinary expert, Master Chef Fame Mr. Ajay Chopra conducted “Big Daddy Chef Competition” for 17 Dads along

with their kids at DPS Nacharam on Saturday, 4th August. Chef Chopra conducted an interactive session for students of

classes 11 and 12 on various inter-related career options in culinary skills. He also shared his inspiring success story to

motivate students in becoming focused in achieving their goals. His message to our students was that every single thing on

this earth can be earned if the passion in it is still alive. He further said that consistency is the key to success.

Ms Chandan Manroa, a dietitian and Health & Nutrition expert conducted a session for students of class IX along with the parents in

the school auditorium. She stressed on the importance of eating healthy and balanced diet. In India, Sodexo operates in more than 30

7TH AUGUST – Social Science Week

The Social Science

Week was observed in

Delhi Public School,

Nacharam for the

entire week starting

from the 7th till 10th

August, 2018 wherein

a myriad of activities

were carried out by the students. The goal was to not only create awareness amongst the students about the environment,

but also to sensitize them to the grave problems of environmental pollution and its consequences. On Tuesday morning, the

assembly commenced with a prayer song by X choir group. A skit was presented on the topic ‘Women Empowerment’

which noted the considerable progress made by women in various fields. The skit ‘Consumer Awareness’ showcased by

the students created the awareness about the role of consumers in today’s world. The whole assembly commemorated the

sacrifices made by Kargil heroes and paid a tribute to them. The assembly came to an end by an inspiring speech by the

Vice Principal. On Thursday morning, the assembly began enthusiastically with the performance of students in MUN which

explained the significant resolution made by sixteen delegates to sensitize the global citizen’s role in reducing pollution.

There was a speech on ‘Nazism and its effects on the people’ which indicated the intensity of the deprived social life during

Second World War. The day witnessed an exhibition of various models, collages and project works accomplished throughout

the week. The Social Science Week wound up by an amazing speech by the Principal, who inspired children to devote

themselves whole heartedly to nurture and preserve the cultural heritage.

16TH AUGUST – Commerce Week:

To gain an in depth understanding of business issues and processes, the students of 11th and 12th grades of Delhi Public

School, Nacharam set up a special assembly on the topic ”Commerce Week” which lasted for three days. The first day of

special assembly which was on 16th August, 2018 marked an insight to create awareness about the topic “Waste

Management.”

focussed on the topic

“Frauds by companies”.

The session aimed to discuss

the steps needed to increase consumer trust and the effective guidelines to fraud protection. Following the theme of the

week, the last day of the assembly gave a deep outlook into the topic “Information Economics” by 12 E students. The

speeches given emphasized how information vital is for the economy.

9TH AUGUST – DPS, Nacharam MUN (Model United Nations)

The MUN started with the welcoming and addressing of the delegates of sixteen countries by the chair person. The motion

for the topic ‘Air Pollution’ got accepted by the majority. The MUN prolonged for 2 hours of discussion and finally ended

up with a resolution on ‘Air Pollution’ and measures taken by each country to control it. It was an enriching platform for the

student participants as it provided a deeper understanding of multilateral diplomacy, strengthened their negotiating skills

and leadership qualities among the participants and also improved their ability to anticipate evolving scenarios of complex

issues. All participants had a faithful research by respecting the assigned country’s standpoint. Finally the student audience

understood the way on conducting MUN and enjoyed the way it was conducted. The honorable guest, Principal Madam,

Ms. Sunitha Rao appreciated the efforts of students and teachers for the successful program.

10TH AUGUST- DAV, Safilguda MUN

Fifteen students from Delhi Public School, Nacharam had participated as delegates in DAV Model United Nations, 2018 in

various committees such as Disarmament and International

Security Committee (DISEC), United Nations Human

Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Developmental

Plans (UNDP) and Futuristic Continuous Crisis

Committee (FCCC).The opening ceremony was graced by

the presence of a retired IAS officer and the crowd was

addressed by the principal of DAV Public School,

Safilguda. The three day conference was enriching for all

the participants. Deeksha Audurty, Delegate of Poland (a

student of X-H) received a memento for High Commendation from UNDP. The MUN ended with the inspiring words of

the MLA of Malkajgiri and a cheerful note of thanks extended by the principal of DAV, Safilguda.

13TH AUGUST –HMUN (Harvard Model United Nations) 2018, Novotel

The Harvard Model United Nations, India took

place in Hyderabad at Novotel, Hyderabad

International Convention Center. It was a forum

for students from across the world to put

themselves in the shoes of global leaders and

effectively represent their countries’ stances and

opinions on various agendas differing from

committee to committee. Class XI students

represented DPS, Nacharam in this event. The first

day of the conference, the 12 th of August 2018, was kicked off with a grand opening ceremony where the secretariat of the

conference addressed the gathering, and spelt out the general rules of procedure. It was a four day conference where

participants enhanced their oratory and diplomatic prowess, enabling them to improve as diplomats and humans as well.

16TH AUGUST – Republic Day Selections

As part of Republic Day selections 11 students of class 9 went to BISON POLO GROUNDS, Secunderabad organized by

4(Telangana) battalion NCC.

16TH AUGUST – Youth Parliament Class X at DPS Nacharam!

Delhi Public School, Nacharam has taken an initiative to train the young minds to become the leaders of tomorrow by

organizing a special session on Thursday, 16th August, on “Youth Parliament” for students of class X. It was held with an

aim to involve the students by providing a wonderful dais to equip the future leaders with debating skills, problem solving

attitude and leadership qualities to activate young people. The session was introduced by the Vice-Principal, Mrs.Nandita

Sunkara and inaugurated by the Principal, Ms Sunitha Rao with the administration of oath to the ruling party ministers. The

participants donned costumes of popular politicians which featured the environment of the Parliament proceedings. The first

session of the Youth Parliament began with the speaker and asked the Prime Minister to read the agenda and discuss on

GST. The second session allowed to pass a bill on “Good Health Facilities for the Citizens” which would enable the

transformation of empowering citizens and building a healthier society. The vice principal applauded the participants for

their interesting and thought provoking sessions which provided an insight to the students about how actual parliament

works and gives them exposure related to politics in order to understand the national issues from their point of view. She

ensured that DPS would facilitate the students by providing a wonderful dais to equip the future leaders with debating skills,

problem solving attitude and leadership qualities to activate young people.

21ST AUGUST – Toastmasters Gavel Club – Installation Ceremony

The second Installation ceremony of ‘Delhi

Public School, Nacharam Gavel Club’ took

place on Tuesday, 21st August, 2018. The event

was conducted to invest the new executive

committee for the Gavel Club, affiliated to

Toastmasters International, for the year 2018-19.

The ceremony began with the Club Counselor,

Mrs. Shukla Dasgupta, addressing the gathering

and calling the session to order with the tap of a gavel. The ceremony was attended by the Principal, Mrs. Sunitha Rao, the

Vice Principal, Mrs. Nandita Sunkara, Toastmaster Anant Katyayini, was has been with the club, as a mentor for its

members, since its inauguration, and the Past President, Tejaswi Valiveti, who was also the installation officer for the

ceremony. Each newly elected member of the executive committee took an oath to fulfill every responsibility that their role

entails. The Principal, Vice Principal, Club Counselor and Toastmaster Anant, presented the executive committee members

with their officer badges and Club Leadership Handbooks for them to utilize throughout their term as officers. Thereafter, a

speech was delivered by the newly elected President, outlining her goals for the club for the year 2018-19. This brought the

installation process to an end.

23RD AUGUST – Inter house Dramatic Monologue & One Act Play Competition

The Inter-House One Act Play and Dramatic Monologue Competition was organized on 23 August for secondary section.

The competition was judged by Ms Shukla Head Mistress, Grade 1&2 and Mr Madhava, MBA, M.Tech and a diploma

holder in Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi dance forms. He is also an active member of the Telengana drama association and

winner of many national and international awards. The dramatic monologue competition witnessed many famous

monologues by famous writers like Alfred Lord Tennyson, Lord Byron, William Shakespeare, Percy Bysche Shelly etc.,

"All is well" and "Merchant of Venice" by Shakespeare were enacted by the students in the genre of classic plays and

"Refund" and "La mouche" were enacted in the genre of modern contemporary comedy. The 1st prize was bagged by

Emerald, 2nd Topaz and 3rd Ruby in the one act play competition and Navya M of Ruby bagged the 1st prize, Nikhita M

of Sapphire house 2nd and Yamini of Emerald house bagged the 3rd prize in the dramatic monologue competition. The

audience enjoyed the staging. The judges concluded the competition with their inspiring words and a memento was presented

as a token of appreciation to the judges.

25TH AUGUST – Tata Crucible Corporate Quiz

Tata Crucible Corporate Quiz was held on 25th August at Taj Krishna, Hyderabad. The quiz is conducted every year by

TATA mainly for the corporate companies and the questions are also based on those lines. It was for the first time that

teachers from a school, Ms. Gowri Sridhar & Ms.Rama Devi of DPS, Nacharam participated for the quiz. Their participation

was highly commended by the Quiz master – Mr. Giri Bala Subramanian also called the “Pick Brain”. The teachers were

highly grateful to the Management, Principal, Ms. Sunitha Rao and Vice-Principal, Ms. Nandita Sunkara for encouraging

to participate for the same.

31ST AUGUST – INTACH Quiz at Museum, Hyderabad

16 students were selected and sent to the quiz competition

which was held at Salar Jung Museum on 31st August

2018. The competition was conducted by INTACH. 82

teams were participated from all over the city and 6 teams

were selected for the next level. One of our school team

Jaziya and Akshat Burman of X-A qualified for the city

round quiz. It was a good learning experience for the

students. Questions were asked about identification of

Indian Monuments, textiles, paintings etc. All the students felt happy as they were given an opportunity to participate in the

quiz by the Principal and Vice Principal and thanked them for the same.

The assembly started with the prayer,

happiness is freedom and the secret to

freedom is courage was introduced and a

speech was delivered to give more

information about the topic. The students

held out banners to suit the theme. The

Principal, Ms Sunita Rao addressed the

students. and encouraged them to come up with some innovative and creative ideas for Grade IX.

2ND AUGUST - Class X (House Assembly- Emerald)

The assembly started with the prayer, thought for the day, news, pledge and

new word. The students enacted a skit and conveyed the meaning and the

importance of the festival of Telangana 'Bonalu'. They also spoke about the

history and the way the festival is celebrated across the state. The students

decorated the stage with a small Rangoli bringing in a festive and traditional

mood. A quiz was also organized based on the topic. The assembly ended with

a speech by Vice Principal.

7TH AUGUST- Class X- Social Studies Week (Special Assembly)

The students presented a skit titled "Women Empowerment". A quiz was conducted about famous Indian women

personalities who have made India proud in the Homefront and worldwide with their achievements in their respective fields.

Another skit was performed to make the students aware about consumer rights. This was followed by a picture quiz about

famous Indian women in the field of sports. The topic being Social Studies Week, the theme shifted to how geography is

useful to us in our day to day lives. A tribute was paid to the Kargil martyrs in the form of a patriotic song followed by 2

minute silence.

9TH AUGUST – Class IX - Social Studies Week (SA) MUN

The assembly started with MUN the topic of discussion being "Air pollution" in different countries around the world. There

were 16 countries delegates who participated. The agenda of discussion was to prevent and reduce air pollution and to

improve the quality of air globally. The participant students also spoke about Nazism in Germany and conditions that were

conducive for the rise of Adolph Hitler. Charts and models were displayed about various topics related to the theme. The

MUN concluded with Principal Ms Sunita Rao addressing the students.

13TH AUGUST – Class IX-G (World Organ Donation Day)

The assembly started with the prayer, thought for the day, news, pledge and new word. The students presented a speech on

the importance of "Organ Donation". This was followed by a quiz about the topic. The guest speaker for the day Dr

Susheel MBBS, MS from KIMS addressed the audience about the importance and methods of organ donation. He also made

the students aware about how to pledge organs and the organizations one has to register with for organ donation.

13TH AUGUST- Class XI- I (World Organ Donation Day)

A short skit was

enacted which

apprised the students

of getting rid of the

stigma attached to

organ donation. Two

speeches were then

presented, detailing

the concept of organ donation and persuading teenagers to play their role. The assembly ended with an act busting myths

about organ donation, and several other facts. The assembly concluded with Vice Principal, Ms. Nandita Sunkara praising

the extremely educative programme and informing the students on the importance of organ donation.

14TH AUGUST – Class X-H (Those Who Do Not Move Do Not Notice Their Chains)

Grade X-H student Deeksha A was appreciated for receiving the High Commendation at the DAV Safilguda MUN

conducted from 10th to 12th August. The assembly ended with a moral story told by Ms Hima Bindu Co-ordinator.

16TH AUGUST- Class X (House Assembly - Sapphire)

The assembly started with the new word, thought for the day, news, pledge and new word. The topic was Doing what you

like is freedom, liking what you do is happiness. A speech was delivered to make the students understand how one should

be happy with what they do and should not be burdened to do it. The poem "The Road not Taken" was recited which

conveyed the importance of deciding ones career in a student's life.

16TH AUGUST – CLASS XII (Commerce Week- Business Studies)

The assembly started with prayer, pledge, news, new word, and thought of the day followed by

the skit. The topic was Waste Management. The new word was flytipping- Illegally dumping

waste; Followed by the thought- If it cannot be reduced, reused recycled, rebuilt, repaired

,refurnished, then it should be removed or redesigned. The assembly concluded with a thought

provoking skit on Waste Management.

18TH AUGUST – CLASS XII (Commerce Week- Accounts)

The topic of the assembly was Frauds by companies. The assembly started with prayer, pledge,

news, new word, and thought for the day - Debit your problems and credit the solutions to have

a balanced life. It was followed by motivating speeches on Importance & Types of accounting

and Satyam Scam.

20TH AUGUST - CLASS XI & XII (Commerce Week- Economics Day)

Speeches were delivered on what is Information

Economics & on the revolution of information and its

relevance past and future. It was followed by a skit on

clarity of information from political side. The

assembly concluded with Principal, Ms. Sunitha Rao

addressing the students.

20TH AUGUST- Class IX- H (Sadhbavana Diwas)

The assembly started

followed by the

"Happiness is when, what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony". This was followed by the word for

the day related to the topic "Sadbhavana diwas". The news was anchored which was followed by a speech which spoke

about the importance of celebrating this day. The students sung a patriotic song. The guest speaker Ms I Sudha, HM of

middle wing inspired the children by telling the importance of "Sadbhavana Diwas" and also paying tribute to the soldiers

and the martyrs in the front. She also motivated the children to take initiative in reaching out to the people of Kerala affected

by floods.

21ST AUGUST – Class X-I -Bakrid (Special Assembly)

The assembly started off with the prayer, new word, thought for the day, news and pledge. A speech was delivered on the

importance of celebrating Bakrid. The students were dressed in traditional Muslim attire and spoke about the way the festival

is celebrated. The class teacher Ms Charu spoke a few words about the reasons to celebrate the festival and the importance

of spreading religious equality and brotherhood.

23RD AUGUST – Class XI (House Assembly - Topaz)

The topic for the assembly was International day for the remembrance

of the slave trade and its abolition. Students of class 11, as usual,

showcased their talents individually and as team managed to successfully

present an assembly which would leave an indelible impression in the

minds of the audience. Eloquent speeches were delivered on Slave trade,

highlighting its history and relevance in the present day society. The

students also displayed colourful posters conveying awareness regarding

social issues such as prejudice against caste, race, religion, etc.

27TH AUGUST – XI-C (Global Change and Natural Calamities)

The theme of the assembly was “Global Climate Change and Natural Hazards”. The assembly started off with the prayer,

new word, thought for the day, news and pledge. It was followed by a speech on Global Warming. To highlight the dangers

of natural calamities, the floods in the state of Kerala as a result of human interventions & the grave situation of the state

were discussed and the students were urged to realize the mistakes of our ancestors, spread awareness about the critical

condition of the earth and fulfill their responsibilities as a living being on this planet.

29TH AUGUST- XII-G (Demography and House hold Economics)

The morning assembly was conducted by XII-G students on the Theme “Demography and House hold Economics”. A

fabulous speech was also presented along with a quiz on the topic had given a final conclusion and the entire assembly was

appreciated by the Vice Principal, Ms Nandita Sunkara who also addressed the students.

30TH AUGUST – CLASS XII (National Small Industry Day)

On the occasion of National Small Industry Day an assembly was conducted by Emerald house students of XII on the

theme “Self Help groups and Empowerment”. The assembly started with prayer, pledge, thought for the day. A speech was

delivered on self help group and empowerment giving an insight on the scheme which has helped farmers and members

of rural communities all throughout. The assembly came to an end with an inspirational speech on small industries by Vice

Principal, Ms. Nandita Sunkara.

23RD AUGUST- Bonalu Special Assembly

DPS Nacharam welcomed the month of August in a festive mood by conducting the Special Assembly on the theme of folk

festival—Bonalu on Thursday morning. The assembly corner was embellished with vibrant and colourful creative arts of

children presenting the significance of Bonalu. The special assembly commenced with a prayer, followed by pledge, thought

and word for the day and news. A skit was performed by participants which cherished the spectators. The Vice Principal

emphasized the importance of keeping one’s culture alive and added that the whole culture is nurtured by young generations.

The assembly concluded with the presentation of rangoli arts and mud pots decorated with vermillion spots.

1ST AUGUST- DPS, Nacharam wins Team Gold in Rifle Shooting

“New Guns rising from DPS Nacharam”

A moment of pride as DPS Nacharam won

the Team Gold in Rifle shooting. A total of

27 students from 19 schools from all over

India DPS schools had participated, and DPS

Nacharam was the only school from South

India to have participated and win the Team

Gold in 10mts Air Rifle event. Konasani Geetika of 10th, Bhandharam Sri Laxmi from 9th, Maddemsetti Manmitha of 9th

and Gangam Sahasra of 8th from DPS Nacharam accompanied by their coach Raj Kranth participated in The DPS

NATIONAL SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP Girls (open ) 2018, which was held from 31st July to 1st August at DPS

MARUTI KUNJ, GURGOAN. The Chief Guest, Mr. Pramod Grover chairman DPS MARUTI KUNJ and treasurer for DPS

SOCIETY appreciated the school team and chairman of DPS NACHARAM for providing such facility.
