Reading Challenge True to this, the month of July set a tone of increased vigor, energy and enthusiasm in our school premises. For Zuzu it was one of the busiest months as I was busy settling down into the academic session, preparing for my first cyclic test, spending my time completing the READING CHALLENGE given by my school and participate in a host of activities. The month began quietly and picked up momentum towards the end. The onset of monsoon gave the necessary respite from the harsh heat of the month of June. Most of the time in the evenings this month I was curled up on my couch like a book worm with a hot cup of Bournvita and delved into the imaginary stories and adventures of TinTin. This was a part of my 15 book reading challenge. Some of my other friends caught up with Nancy Drew, while others became detectives with the Famous Five and Secret Seven trying to solve mysteries. The READING CHALLENGE threw open doors for all of us to delve into the various magical worlds of fairy tales, Panchatantra stories, Marvel comics, Goose bumps, Famous Fives and Secret Sevens. Our librarian, a stern lady who rarely smiled, was now seen this month happy and cheerful as her room was filled with children all the time. Zuzu will complete the reading challenge by October 9 (dead line given) as the prize of getting a medal and another book is tempting to me.

SOCIETY REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF JULY 2018

The Birth stone of July is RUBY. The stone represents divinity, creativity, high energy

levels, high self-esteem and spiritual wisdom. It is a symbol of good fortune, loyalty and pure friendship.

Reading Challenge

True to this, the month of July set a tone of increased vigor, energy and enthusiasm in

our school premises. For Zuzu it was one of the busiest months as I was busy settling down

into the academic session, preparing for my first cyclic test, spending my time completing the READING CHALLENGE given by my school and participate in a host of activities.

The month began quietly and picked up momentum towards the end. The onset of

monsoon gave the necessary respite from the harsh heat of the month of June. Most of the

time in the evenings this month I was curled up on my couch like a book worm with a hot

cup of Bournvita and delved into the imaginary stories and adventures of TinTin. This was

a part of my 15 book reading challenge. Some of my other friends caught up with Nancy

Drew, while others became detectives with the Famous Five and Secret Seven trying to solve

mysteries. The READING CHALLENGE threw open doors for all of us to delve into the

various magical worlds of fairy tales, Panchatantra stories, Marvel comics, Goose bumps,

Famous Fives and Secret Sevens. Our librarian, a stern lady who rarely smiled, was now seen

this month happy and cheerful as her room was filled with children all the time. Zuzu will

complete the reading challenge by October 9 (dead line given) as the prize of getting a medal and another book is tempting to me.

Literary week celebrations:

The reading challenge was a culmination of the literary week celebrations that took place

from the 9th of July to the 14th. Characters came alive in the assemblies, dramatic monologues

from Shakespeare enacted, book reviews conducted, spell bees were busy and bulletin

boards spoke of Enid Blyton, Ruskin bond and others. The magnificent story of RK

Narayan’s HERO narrated by our Principal took us in to the world of MALGUDI while Henry

the Chameleon from Ruskin Bond crawled in to our classrooms during the week. Zuzu will

forever enjoy the literary week activities as books are always Zuzu’s best friends.

DEAR TIME

14th July …time 2:30 pm. The bell rang and the whole school went quiet. It was time to DEAR

(Drop Everything and Read). What a lovely time it was to see my friends and teachers bore

their eyes into their books oblivious to the world around them. My friends were seen reading

books everywhere. On the grounds, in the rooms, in the dining hall and in the computer lab

too. I loved my school for these initiatives and ideas that are given- another lovely method to inculcate the habit of reading into our lives.

MAGIC SHOW

Fantasy and imagination are described as words that belong to the world of adventure.

The Hogwarts School of magic will remain in my heart as a symbol of adventure, fantasy and

imagination. Though I may not have a Nimbus2000 to fly into the worlds unknown, I did

enjoy a world of magic when our school took all of us to the “Jadugar Anand magic show” at

HariHara Kalabhavan. I was spell bound as things magically appeared and disappeared, as

papers became Parrots and oranges became dolls. My friend was lifted in to the air, my

teacher magically cut by a saw and joined again, out of his hat came out flowers, bouquets,

ribbons, rabbits, quills and so on. Oh! If I could become a magician and learn all the magic

in the world. Zuzu will create a world of happiness such that no friend of his cries for hunger

or poverty. What a lesson in magic did I learn? Bringing happiness to others is the true meaning of being happy.

“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of emotions” said Words Worth.

I penned a long lovely tribute to Rudd and Lilly the two characters from the Ant-Man

and the WASP for their superb performance in the movie. As I watched the movie with my

teachers and friends I learnt that every problem can have a solution and that every one of is

given special talents so that we can use it to help others. I was lost in the technical brilliance

of this world of movie and thank my school for giving me another opportunity to learn from outside the classrooms.

Rainy Day

“Rain Rain go away…. Is a line which is never heard in my school.Rain as a symbol of

prosperity, life and sustenance is welcomed by us all. You will often listen to my preprimary

friends saying “Rain Rain come again” while they sing in the morning assembly. Zuzu’s

preprimary friends celebrated the Rhim Jim rainy day as they splashed happily in the rain

wearing their colorful rain coats and making the forgotten paper boats run around the

corners in the ground. You might have heard a cough or a sneeze after that. But the fun of enjoying a dance in the rain is unmatched in the world.

Keeping up this spirit of monsoon our school celebrated the month of July with

plantations at all levels. The preprimary team initiated the VRIKSHA DIVAS with their

tender hands planting the saplings. All around the school the green colour percolated. All of

us once again took the green pledge to protect and save the earth for ourselves.

Trees in the Indian context are also a symbol of knowledge. It was under the Bodhi tree that

Buddha a saint attained MOKSHA. It is under a tree justice is declared in many villages; It is under a tree that many stories are brought alive.

The granny’s day brought in this element of affinity with the world of trees as the young preprimary ones were told stories under the shade of the trees.

I love my grandmother for her wonderful bed time stories and her lovely sweets which

she often tempts me with. The papery Pootha Rekulu and the Boondhi Laddus that she

makes would give her the world’s Master Chefs award if she ever competes. Keeping in mind

this world of sweets Zuzu’s preprimary segment came up with their Rythu Bazar and Local

fruit market. The corridors ranged with vendors selling fruits and vegetables with lovely,

catchy lines

“Take the Onions, One in a Million, mini mini onions, pinky pinky onions”,

“Potato, Potato.. brown, brown.. Potato, boil the potato or fry the potato”

The tiny village bunyas brought in the element of innocence, purity and life in to the Pre primary world.

PROFESSION WEEK

Kindness is contagious. We practice and believe that every individual’s contribution to the

school is recognized and commended. Saluting this spirit, we celebrated the community

helper’s day to recognize and appreciate the contribution of each and every community

member to the world that one live in. Zuzu thanks and salutes these helpers who make his

world. Tears came to my eyes when my bus attender was introduced to us and we thanked her in Unison for her help and support.

Questions from New Papers:

Our school came up with a lovely idea of making us improve our reading skills with a

reading challenge program. Adding this our teachers started giving us 5 questions from the

newspapers that we get in our school. It was fun to see some of my friends who were experts

at making rockets with newspapers, now carefully folding them and putting them in their

bags, going through each and every article carefully and remembering the major events mentioned. Hats off to my Principal mam who gets ideas like these.

INTER HOUSE SPORTS:

It seemed towards the end of July that the magic of the entire month truly seemed real. The

rains calmed, Zuzu got his sports shoes out, quickly picked up his exercise regime in the

morning to become fit, and lunch time was seen with children on the cricket ground and at the tennis table.

All this was to get ready for the Inter House sports week soon to come. We have

received our schedule so its time now for Zuzu to don another new form in action. See you folks on the ground.
