Dear 1C students, 5 months have elapsed like a wink and I vividly remember the first time I entered the classroom. Some of you were waiting patiently for your English teacher while others were chatting timidly with one another. Before I began to speak, I wanted us to know each other well so to create a warm learning atmosphere. And we did, to which I am thankful. Without a friendly ambiance, I doubt we could have so much fun, could we? Do you still recall our Unit 2 (Family Matters) project presentation? I learnt so much about all of you. I was intrigued by some of your wonderful presentation and speaking skills. Not only that, I was also impressed by the outstanding writing ability most of you have. You never fail to amaze me when you submit your compositions after each unit. They are wonderful and lively. Sometimes, I wonder how you could express yourselves so well in your writing. Not only are you all capable in expressing yourself through writing but you all, my dear 1C students, are marvelous in speaking too. Ask yourself if you are satisfied with your Choral Speaking Competition? I admit the practices were harsh and frequent but none of you complained. You continued and endured. In fact, most of you were the art-directors, suggesting me to incorporate certain actions in the performance. Without your input, I don’t think our performance would entail so many gestures and actions. Don’t forget, we won the overall second-runner-up position. It is you, 1C, who taught me about Choral Speaking and I am sincerely thankful to all of you. Lastly, I am looking forward to our many new experiences in the second term, some of which includes the funny short ghost story project, cosplay, etc. I can’t wait for another round of fun, can you? Let us all join hands and produce some momentous experiences and memories. Let’s go 1C! Your-forever-awesome-English-teacher, Miss Amina (Miss A )

A Diary Entry about My Interview with

a Family Member ASIF AHFAQ MEHMOOD

Dear Palar Diary,

I interviewed Asif. He is my father. He lives with me. He’s

tall and strong. He is married. He works in a company. I

interviewed my father because I want to know more

about my father.

First we spoke about what games he played growing up.

And he said at that time, most of the people played

cricket and cricket was very famous. And I learned there

weren’t many games.

After that, I asked him where he went to school. He

studied in Pakistan. It was a small city next to his village.

The city was called Chakwal. They had to walk to school.

Because at that time there was not enough money. I have

learnt that we are very lucky that we have money and

school.

P.3

Next, we talked about where and when he got married.

They got married in Pakistan. So they decided to go to

Hong Kong.

Finally, the interview was over. It was nice to know more

about my family member. I have learnt many things

before which I didn’t.

A Diary Entry about My Famous Visit DACANAY JULIAN KRISTOPHER G.

Dear Diary,

Last week, I went to Hong Kong to do a concert! I will

actually do 3 more concerts in 2 weeks. My last concert

was on the 23rd December. And I will do one more

tomorrow and two more next week. Since I’m singing

the same song for the next 3 concerts, I feel more

confident NOT to mess up.

When I arrived in Hong Kong, I thought there would not

be a lot of fans waiting for my arrival, but apparently,

there were hundreds! It was all basic stuff when I

arrived, pictures, autographs etc. I didn’t expect that

many people but luckily, I booked a resort to stay for

one night and relax there instead of doing something

special.

P.5

The next day, I had to go to a press conference before

the concert which in my opinion was pretty boring and

since it was so boring, I didn’t even care about the

interviews. I just skipped it. I didn’t care.

Finally, we did the concert. It only took an hour until it

finished.

Yours rightful owner,

Julian

Dear Alfred,

How are you? I’m at Macau at the Galaxy Hotel. I’m here

with my parent and my siblings. We’re here because my

mom always planned to go to Macau. So her friends told

her that, Galaxy Hotel has lot of things to do. You can go

shopping, eat in the most beautiful restaurant and swim at

the wave pool. We came here by ferry. The ferry was fast

and jumpy. It felt like the Ocean Park ride called Leaf Frog.

After the ferry ride, we rode on a coach that brought us to

the hotel. It was a thirty minute ride and the good thing

was that there was an English tour guide.

We visited the shopping centre. There was a car display of

the latest electric powered car. We took pictures of it. In the

morning, we booked for our room and we finished breakfast

at the Galaxy food center we had

P.7

New York Fries. In the afternoon, we swam at the wave

pool. The wave was big but sometimes small. We hanged

around my room at the end. So we ordered room service.

The food was not so good. In the evening, we went

shopping at the shopping centre. It wasn’t fun but my sister

and mom had fun.

I am waiting for your reply.

With love,

Adrian

A Diary Entry about My Interview

with a Family Member EMBUSCADO JESHUA JUSTIN MARIANO

Dear Diary,

I interviewed my mom weeks ago but I’m just writing it

now because I was busy and tired but now I have lots

of time to write it. Anyway, I interviewed my mom; her

name is ‘Maria Jina Mariane Embuscade’. I asked about

her personal information, family background, school

years, marriage, children and WORDS of WISDOM. I

think my mom’s past was more interesting than my

dad’s …. Joke.

First we spoke about her family background and

personal information. I had to ask what was the earliest

childhood memory, when and where she was born, etc.

I learned the life in the past, she even told me about

how her older sisters would get new things then after

P.9

years, and it will be given to her to save money because

our family wasn’t rich but could afford to buy food or

pay for rentals. My mom told me how thankful I should

be to live in this generation. Thank God for that!

After that, I asked about my mom’s school life. She told

me her school names, from primary school to university.

I was shocked to hear how near her schools were. I

wish Hip Wo was just 15 minutes away! I wanted to

know if we have the same favourite subjects, and we do!

She said she loved English, Music and Social Studies. My

mom was telling jokes in some parts of the interview

which was really entertaining!

Next, we spoke about her marriage, about her children

(Arjie, Hannah and I) and her WORDS of WISDOM!

Amazing, my mom and dad met in a church (Christian).

My mom and dad eventually became friends and started

going out for lunch. It was so ROMANTIC when my dad

visited my grandparents and mom’s house one

afternoon. He asked if he could marry my mom even

P.10

though she is 7 years older than him! I almost forgot to

tell you, Diary, that my mom said that she was so proud

when she gave birth to the three of us. They told me

that it was good listening to their parents to prepare for

the future and I think they made a great job in raising

us three.

Finally, the interview was a success! We even had fun in

the process of making this entry. I got to spend time

with my mom and to ask about her life in the past.

Knowing how strict my grandparents were, I didn’t

know my mom could be so funny even though she

could be scary and too perfect sometimes. I really loved

the part when my dad asked my mom to MARRY him. It

was really enjoying to know and learn somebody’s past.

HOW AMAZING!

P.11

A Diary Entry about My Interview

with a Family Member ESPIRITU ELLYZA JOYCE

Dear Diary,

Today was interesting! I learned so many things. I

interviewed my mother. I am interviewing her for my

project/ homework. I learned so many new things

about my family tree. I wasn’t able to interview my

extended family since they are all in the Philippines.

First, we spoke about her earliest childhood memory

which was amazing and enjoyable to hear. She told me

she went to a river and she caught so much fish (or

minnows she sometimes call it).

After that, she told me about her school life. She had to

take something that is attached to a bicycle. Weird thing

is, I took a ride with my mom in the Philippines.

P.12

She told me something about relationships and

marriage. She also told me trust is important and vital

to relationships. Without trust, you can’t do anything

about it if you don’t have trust.

The interview was interesting and I was able to extend

my knowledge more. I had an enjoyable time with her.

Dear Usain Bolt,

My name is Etisam. I am 12 years old and I am a Muslim

Pakistani. I study in Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo). I live

in Kwun Tong and I have been living here since I was born.

I am helpful and like to help others. I am also a very

sociable person and I am friendly too.

I have a lot of interests and hobbies. As I am sporty and

adventurous, I like playing football and cricket. I am better

in cricket than football. I like going hiking and going to

theme parks. I always try new ideas and I am not scared of

them. I have gone to many cricket competitions. What are

your hobbies and interests? Are they same as mine?

My old primary school was Hong Kong Taoist Association

Wun Tsuen School. It was small but more beautiful than my

secondary school. In our primary school, we had more

P.14

clubs than secondary school. It had Takewundo Club, Karate

Club and Drama Club. The secondary school toilet is always

unclean; it’s dirty. The tuck shop is big and it has more food

than primary tuck shop. In primary, we had lunch at school.

Here, we can go outside to have lunch. Is your secondary

school different than your primary school?

I have a new friend in secondary school. He is a boy and he

is Pakistani. I came to school on the first day and I asked

him where my class. He told me and we became friends. He

is sporty and playful. He is in school cricket team. He is

always doing tricks on others. I seldom do it. He is same as

me because I am sporty too. I always play football with him.

Do you have a new friend?

You are my first pen friend. I like to meet you in the future.

I wish you were living in Hong Kong so I could meet you.

Can you tell me about your life at secondary school and

yourself? I am looking forward for your reply.

From,

Elisam

Dear James,

I am in New York, USA! And I am loving it! I am here

with my family because it’s summer and we were all

free, so I asked dad to take us to USA and here we are.

The plane flight was so boring that I slept the whole

time. (OK, maybe I did watch a few movies, so what?)

Yesterday, we visited the Statue of Liberty and it’s so

beautiful and very big, even in the inside. We went to

the top and saw the beautiful sea. After that, we went

to the Museum of Modern Art, which was boring but the

food outside the museum was great! I saw some guys

playing skateboard (Not in the museum, mind you). I

thought it was so cool but my mom did not think so. We

went back to our hotel and we did the most amazing

thing…we slept before changing our clothes!

P.16

We visited the Central Park Zoo today. There were so

many animals and birds there, it was my kind of place. I

loved watching the birds most because they were so

colorful! Then we went to central park which was so

cool and clean! It was beautiful with so many trees. I

was just watching the city’s night lights through my

hotel window, it’s so cool.

We will visit Darien Lake tomorrow. It is an amusement

park. I heard it’s so cool. There I wan to go on all the

rides like the Ride of Steel, Mind Eraser etc. I want to go

to our hotel late and sleep after a long day.

We will return to Hong Kong on the 15th of December. I

will bring a small replica of the Statue of Liberty because

I know how much you like Statues. I will meet you on

16th December in Jordan Park. Bye!

Best Wishes,

Dear Hassan,

I’m Hamayal from Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo). It is

in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong. I live in Kwai Chung and it’s

very far from my school. So it takes me 30 minutes to

get to Kwun Tong. I am a Pakistani and I came from

Pakistan, Lahore.

I’m very sporty and adventurous person. Besides that,

I’m very brave and like to do hiking, climbing and

mountain cycling. I also want to climb Mount Cook or

Mount Everest. I want to be a cricketer or an actor

when I grow up. In my free time, I like to play

computer games or chat on Facebook.

My new school is very good and we also have strict

teachers and nice and polite teachers. There are lots of

differences between my primary school and secondary

P.18

school, such as more activities, more new subjects like

Soc and JT. I need to be more attentive and subjects

are very hard. I also need to be very hard-working.

My new friend is David. He is very sporty and studies in

5A. He is sometimes hard-working and attentive. He’s

also very friendly, good at studies. He likes playing

cricket too much and he’s in the hard-ball cricket team.

Now, I think you’re bored reading these paragraphs so I

won’t write anymore. Can you tell me about your new

friend, your studies, your hobbies and your new school?

Could you also tell me about your family background

and your life style? Bye for now.

Dear Nina,

Hey there Nina! Wow, I never thought staying here in

California would be awesome! Right now, I’m staying at

home with my auntie Susan, sitting on the couch

watching TV. Sadly, she’s watching ABC news right now.

I don’t like watching news because it’s boring. So that’s

why I decided to write to you. So, let’s get started!

Yesterday, my family and I arrived here at the airport.

My auntie and my cousin, Dianne were there to pick us

up. They had a big smile on their faces. I haven’t seen

Auntie Susan and Dianne since I was one and a half

year old. Wow! In the afternoon, we went to a lot of

new places and took photos. Mom took countless photos!

Then in the evening, we went to a restaurant and some

local cuisines. Dianne and I didn’t eat a lot, but Mom,

P.23

Dad, Auntie Susan and my little brother, Carlos sure did

a lot! After, we finally went to Auntie Susan and

Dianne’s home. Their house was really huge.

So today morning, I woke up at 8 a.m. and took a

morning shower. Then I asked Dianne if I can borrow

her bicycle. It was fun cycling around the streets. Then I

decided to just stay at home for the rest of the day.

Oh! Dianne is asking me out to go and buy something

at Walmart with her. I want to hang out with her all day!

Well, I guess I’ll write to you soon!

I am in Malaysia. It is a very beautiful country. I am with

because my uncle wants me to spend more time with

him. I came here on 9th July, 2008. I was having a jet

lag and also feeling sleepy so I almost slept in the car

when we were going to the hotel.

In the morning, I wear a hippie-style outfit because it

was a very hot day and it was a gift from my

grandmother. We also visited Petronas Twin Tower and

took a photo of me, my uncle and aunt. In the

afternoon, we went swimming and it was fun. In the

evening, we ate a huge dinner in the hotel and played a

game called “Copycat”. It was an amazing day.

P.25

The next morning, we went to a big shop for shopping

and the shop was huge with different kinds of food and

drinks. In the afternoon, we tried local food like burned

cashew and it was yummy. In the evening, we took lots

of photos of every single place we were interested in.

We enjoyed ourselves.

Today, I went to a theme park at 9:00 am in the

morning and came back to the hotel at 8:00 pm. It was

a fabulous day and rides were fun and also scary. It was

a food heaven restaurant because the food was fabulous.

Today I am writing this to you. I will return to Hong

Diary entry about My Interview with

Dear Pretty Diary,

A week ago, I interviewed my uncle Nizakat, who is my

father’s brother. I interviewed him about his family and

him. I choose him for my interview because he is

friendly and playful so I did not feel shy to ask questions.

First, I asked him a question about his earliest childhood

memories and he told be some interesting stories about

his childhood, but I selected one for the interview from

his responses, to my questions and how we speak to

interviewer.

After that, we spoke about his family background and

reason he came to Hong Kong. He told me one of the

reasons he came to Hong Kong was he liked buildings,

parks and other beauty of Hong Kong. By

P.27

asking questions about family background, I learned

many things which I never know about my family (e.g.

my great grandfather was killed by his friend because of

land problem)

Next, we talked about his children and he told me he

likes his all children but his younger son, Rahid and

younger daughter, Alviya. He likes them more than the

others. From his responses, I learned that every parent

like their children but still they like some of their children

more than others.

Finally, the interview was very good. Overall, I have a

good and interesting experience. After interviewing my

uncle, I learned a lot about my family. I interviewed

about 2 hours.

A Pen-Pal Letter LI BOSCO 李灝俊

Dear Rafael,

I am a Form One student at Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo)

in Kwun Tong. But make sure you won’t get mixed up because

there are 2 or 3 Delias, so make sure it’s (Hip Wo) not MRC.

I am 13 years old. I am from Vancouver Canada. But now I

study in Hong Kong, because my dad said I am half Chinese

so I have to learn Chinese, the so called ‘中文’.

My hobbies are playing ice hockey, soccer, basket ball,

badminton and doing experiments like The Myth Buster. But

my favourite hobby would be singing and playing ice hockey.

I think you would like basketball like me because you may

have experienced something like this in your school before? I

was once in the basketball team and I am eager to know why

if you were in it. Are you in the team now?

I think my new school is definitely not as big as my old school

because my old school had really big playground, basketball

courts and 2 soccer fields. There is one thing I don’t

P.29

understand about Hong Kong schools: why are the schools in

Hong Kong so different from the other side of the country like

USA and Canada. In those 2 countries, students have lockers,

no uniform and canteen.

I have a new best friend because we have something others

don’t have. We used to chat a lot when we were seat-mates

but our class teacher, Ms Amina changed our seats, my

classmate was like “NOOO”! I don’t want to change seats. My

new seat-mate is so boring.

What my friend and I have in common is Maths because we

both like racing for the first when my Math teacher gives us

worksheets to do. For lunch, we would sometimes go to this

Chinese Restaurant and eat but we usually don’t order the

drink because after eating we would usually go to Gang Cha

and really, the drinks there are so refreshing.

Well, I never knew he would be my good friend but life is

mysterious, right? I wish to know more about you and your

new school, friends.

Sincerely,

Bosco

I’m so sorry diary! I haven’t written in you for about a

month! But I’m back. I’m here to write in you. I will

write about my interview with my cousin. I have to

interview him for our school project.

First, we talked about his childhood. It wasn’t really

interesting it was kind of weird and boring but he is very

childish, after-all we were talking about his childhood. It

was all about army gun blah blah and etc. I also saw

some of his childhood guns and his recent teenagers

gun models.

Then we talked about his family and his favourite

childhood memories. His family background is awesome.

His parents let him go to the Army. I also learnt some of

P.31

our background at the end. I am excited to know more

about him, especially his reason for joining the US

marines.

Next, we talked about marriage which he did not

married yet. He talked about his experience of getting a

driver license and buying lots of gears for his new car.

He said he wishes to travel around the world in that car.

He wants to become a journalist too and so I told him I

wanted to be a head chef or a USMC (US Marines). My

dad is a chef in England.

Interviewing my cousin was a great fun and memorable.

I learned new stuff and interesting parts of our family

background for that.

Dear Rozanne,

Hey there, this is my second day at LA Rochelle. I came

here with my friends (also known as “sisters”), there are

Yesterday, in the morning, we reached LA Rochelle at

11:00 a.m. I was very tired of sitting down in the plane

for hours.

In the afternoon, we were in a five star hotel. It name

Hotel Camping, The bed was soft as I was sleeping on

cotton. And we had buffet for lunch.

In the evening, we ate less. It was because we ate a lot

for lunch. We ate noodles instead. And we went for a

long walk after dinner. We took some pictures.

P.33

This morning was fun! We went sight-seeing in Vieux

Port. It’s an old harbor, which is at the heart of the city,

picturesque and line with restaurants in Vieux Port.

Now it’s 6 o’clock here. I wish you were here with us.

Now I’m packing up to go to the beach. My friend from

other countries say that on the beach at night, there are

many hot and cute boys. I wish they will be really cute.

It’s because yesterday when I was going back to my

hotel room, I met a cute guy.

He came towards me and then he started introducing

himself. I asked who is he waiting for, he said that he

was waiting for his boy friend. I was shocked, I thought

I would get a chance but he wasn’t the kind of boy a girl

would want.

Now let’s move on to our trip. Shall we? We are going to

visit a big old church near the hotel tomorrow. They say

that, the priest there gives blessing and makes our

wishes come true.

P.34

In the afternoon, we will go to watch a magic show

called “Francofolies”! My friends say that they wanted to

watch the show. If they didn’t tell me about this show,

we will miss the whole fun.

Finally in the evening, we will go for a short walk and

take some pictures for memories in a nice beautiful park.

After that we will pack up and drive to the airport, to go

back to Hong Kong.

I will some gifts for my friends. I have a special gift for

you. I will meet you on the 19th Feb, 2012 in the

afternoon for lunch. Bye for now

Love you,

A Diary Entry about My Interview

with a Family Member MARFIL ALEX SAMANTHA DIAZ

Dear plain white school paper that I ‘m now calling a

“diary”.

I will talk about my project task #2(the interview). I

actually did ask my mom questions first but her answers

are like so corny and dramatic and I have to admit that I

want a better, cooler and simple one so I went online on

Facebook and it’s a miracle that my cousin ‘Ragesun’ is

online and so I started to ask him “Paparazzi-ish”

questions.

First, we talked about his childhood. I can truly say he

get a very simple but elegant one before. His father can

actually afford all the things he asked for but he wasn’t

that kind of kid who asks for every thing in this world. The

funny thing is that he only likes going to Lola’s house

where all my cousins are complete to play XBOX

P.36

with them and at the same time, eat with them. P.S.: Lola

has this mini-store, and he gets stuff he want for free.

Then we went on, to the part where we talked about his

neighborhood school. He replied me an annoyed face and

started to blabber and stuff about B.U.H.S. I was about to

reply him back a big “I don’t care” but I’m afraid that he

might get pissed at me and started to not talk to me so I

tried to control myself and chill.

I moved on to the next part. The most exciting, freaking,

horrible one. Well maybe I shouldn’t really ask things

about his love life but I did. While I was waiting for his

reply—I was kind of shaking but when I saw his message,

I stood up, proud because he didn’t get mad AT ALL! His

girlfriend’s name is Jhen, He mentioned that she’s very

sweet, loving, caring and smart and annoying at times

and that’s what make her special. I got all out because

honestly, I don’t know so many things about love so I

blabbered about like {children} to be. He set up rules…

which obviously sucks.

P.37

I learned one thing. “What’s the use of money after you

die? When your bodies not in this world and you got

nothing to buy in the after life?” All you have to do is live

life and enjoy the ride.

Bye diary, I have to go somewhere with Kuyu Aaron. Take

care! Don’t get ripped off by Ms Amina and my other

classmates. Good luck. I hope you earn me marks.

A Diary Entry about My Interview

with a Family Member MENDOZA RAFAEL LUIS JARIOL

Dear Diary.

I interviewed my parents for my family presentation. I

interviewed them because they are my oldest family

members here in Hong Kong.

First, we talked about my dad’s childhood. “When I was

young, my favourite subject is Math. It’s my best

subject. And it’s also our family’s favourite subject

almost every Mendoza is good at Math” my father

explained. On my mother’s side, my mom side is not

rich, but they have a farm in the province.

After that, I asked about their studies. “I finished

university. I worked really hard to help my mom when

my father passed away. She’s the only one working.

Also my older brother. We help our mother to pay for

P.39

our sisters’ school fees,” my dad replied. I can’t tell what

my mom will say because she was busy.

Next, we spoke about my dad’s family. My dad said, “I

met your mom at a store and I always buy stuff there

just to see her, until she became my girlfriend. And after

years has past, we got married. Then we had two

children. You and your brother.”

Finally, the interview was finished. It was interesting to

learn the past of my parents. Wish they tell me more!

Dear Kamal,

Day #1

I am in Spain. I am with my cousins and friends. I’m

here because I want to meet the real Madrid team and

especially Cristiano Ronald, OMG. Cristiano Ronald is my

favourite football player and Real Madrid dressing room.

I came here on 28th December, 2012 because on 29th

December it was my 14th Birthday. I’m so excited.

In the morning, I went to Madrid in Spain. Like I told

you, I wanted to meet the Real Madrid team and

Cristiano Ronaldo, I met the Real Madrid team and

Ronaldo. I took some photos and autographs from all

the Real Madrid players and Cristians Ronaldo. Then I

went back to the Ritz Madrid Hotel.

P.41

Day #2

I visited Real Madrid football team stadium play against

their rival Barcelona. The match was 2-1 because of

Ronaldo, Madrid won. It was an interesting match; he

scored in the last minute. Then I went to see the Real

Madrid dressing room. I bought some souvenirs and a

football. In the evening, I went back to the Ritz Hotel

and we ate lots of food. The food was very delicious.

Now I will visit Plaza Mayor in Madrid, Spain. I

researched about it on the internet. It is a very

interesting place to visit in Christmas. I will take my

digital camera so I can take photos of the Statue. In the

afternoon, I will visit the Palacio Real (The Royal Palace).

This palace is the biggest palace in Europe with over

2000 rooms. I really think I will take photos of it

because it’s a very famous place in Madrid, Spain. In the

evening, I will visit the museum and it’s next to the Ritz

Madrid Hotel where I live. The museum was opened in

1891, it’s very old museum. I’m definitely going to visit

it because I can know more about old Spain and I will

P.42

take photos. Then after seeing everything in Museum I

will go back to Hotel and take my luggage and go to the

airport.

I will return to Hong Kong on 31st December, 2012. I

will bring some football souvenirs and some special

football clothes for my friends because most of my

friends like to play football. I will meet you on 1st

January, 2013 in the New Year.

A Diary Entry about my Interview

with a Family Member MORAN KEVIN PETER 莫凱文

Dear Diary,

I interviewed my mom. I interviewed her at night. It

took a long time. It was hard and tiring at first. She

talked about it person.

First, we talked about what is the earliest childhood

memory. Her earliest childhood memory was sleeping

with her mum and cooking in the morning. Then we

talked about the different personalities her family

members had and what kind of games did my mom

played.

I did not know about this, she never said a thing about

it but she only told me about scary things for some

reason.

P.45

Next, we spoke about where did my mom went to

school. My mom said the school was very near. It takes

about five minutes to walk there. It’s like my primary

school.

The interview was very interesting. She told me a lot of

new things. She did not tell me a thing about her love

life though!

A Pen-Pal Letter MOSOT MYKA DANIELLE

Dear Kate,

Hey there best friend! As you know, I’m here in Los Angeles

with Jasha and My family. It sucks that your mom didn’t let

you come with us! I forget to tell you that this whole trip

was by birthday present as I came here on my birthday,

July 6. Today was my second day here and we’re leaving

tomorrow. And if you wanted to know, we’re staying at

Jasha’s house.

On our first day, we went to Disney World in the morning.

(You’re free to be jealous! Haha!) then we went to Long

Beach to watch the sunset. The sunset was so pretty, this is

gonna sound cheesy but it was like. I was in a picture of a

romantic-fish part of a movie. In the evening, we went to

this random side street which was full of shops that sell

their local cuisine, we tried like everything in every shop

there. (Mostly me and Jasha! Haha!)

P.47

We went to this museum yesterday morning and personally,

I thought that the art there was sort of weird. Kind of like

half-done art. In the afternoon. We went on a city tour on a

bus in the heart of L.A. It was fun when the wind was

blowing my hair out of my face though... (It made me feel

like a model! Haha!). After sunset we went on a boat trip.

We prepared our food so we ate there. To be honest,

thought it was pretty boring.

We’re going to go cycling around Long Beach tomorrow

after sunrise. When the sun is shining bright in the

afternoon, we’re going to Universal Studios. I’m so excited

to go there and ride some of the rides there. Finally, we’ll go

to a mall near Jasha house and buy souvenirs. (Jasha and I

will just buy clothes for ourselves)

I have to go now, we’re going cycling pretty early tomorrow.

My mom’s yelling at me to go to sleep now but remember

I’m returning to Hong Kong at the ninth and I’ll bring you a

souvenir because you’re my best friend and I love you! So

I’ll see you on the ninth in the airport! Love and miss you!

P.48

An Informal Letter of Advice MUHAMMAD ANS

Dear Chris,

I think you should buy a new bicycle because you are

really good at it. You can even ride it to go to school

because your new secondary school is near your home,

right? The bicycle will only take you around 20-25

minutes. You can even save $6 per day by not going to

school by bus. You might even miss your bus but with

your bicycle, you don’t have such a problem.

If you don’t want to buy the bicycle then you can buy an

I-Phone 5. Well, it is not too good if you always use it

but it is useful for your studies sometimes. For example,

if you don’t know a word, you a search the internet on

your phone at that moment. Also, you will look rich

having one.

P.49

I also got one more nice idea for you. You can buy

football shoes. You are really good at football so you can

kick the football more properly. You would also need it if

you join the football team in your school. Your coach will

tell you to buy it. Can you team me which football

player you like?

I hope you would like my all my three ideas. I really

think you should buy an I-Phone 5. Anyways, it’s your

choice. I wish I were you because you are so lucky.

Best,

Pat

Dear KC diary,

I interviewed my dad for the family interview. He’s fifty-

one years old now. The interview went well, at least he

answered very clearly.

First we spoke about his childhood. The best question I

asked him was “what games did you play when you

were little?” He told me he would roll down grassy

slopes, and was his favourite game at that time. And

that’s also the reason I got some bruises in the park

yesterday, Haha!

After that, I asked dad where he got my brother’s and

my name. He said “Your brother was named after your

grandfather and your name…I got it from a singers

name which that singer was singing and there was his

P.51

name on the screen while I was thinking of your name.”

Then I asked “when did you marry mom?” “In 1999-

late 1999”

Lastly, we spoke about what was the best thing that

happened in his life. He told me to have a good wife and

children were the best thing that happened in his life.

To me, this interview let me know more about my

father and his history, I think. This interview was really

worthwhile.

A Pen-Pal Letter PUN REJINA

Dear Charlyn,

Hi! I am Rejina from Delia Memorial Secondary School

(Hip Wo). I am a 12- year-old Nepalese girl who lives in

Hong Kong. I have four family members. They are

father, mother and my elder brother. My brother thinks

that I am annoying because I always talk to him at

home. So, he also thinks I am annoying at school

because I am shy. I also speak so soft at school but I

speak loud outside school.

Sometimes, when I have free time I will go to the

school library. I will borrow interesting books. I usually

borrow the Chinese books about some famous people

like the people who get the Nobel Prize or people like

Gandhi; because I think it is interesting. I often go to a

football field near my home with my friends. We usually

play catching games. I always make new friends in the

P.54

football field. They are from Nepal, China and Africa. We

use Chinese, English and Nepalese to speak together. It

was fun to play them. How about you? Do you like to go

out and play?

My new secondary life is hard but fun. Before, I need 30

minutes to go to primary school. But I need about an

hour to arrive at my secondary school. In my class, my

classmates are new. They all didn’t come from the same

school as me. In the lunch time, the canteen is always

full. I always need a long time to buy lunch and the

main reason is the queue. The washroom is smelly. My

friend said someone has seen a ghost on the 6th floor

toilet! But I don’t believe it. I wonder where she heard

it from. Do you believe it?

I have mad new friends. Let me tell you two of them.

First is Changmi. Every morning during school days we

wait for each other the MTR and go to school together.

Changmi always ask me to treat her. She is funny,

friendly and bossy (when we play games). The other is

P.55

Caitlin. She goes to school by bus. She shares things

with others and borrow money to others. I think Caitlin

is kind and friendly. She is a good friend. I am lucky to

have Caitlin and Changmei to be my friends.

Sorry, I think I wrote too much and boring. But I wish

you can know more about me from this letter. I want to

ask you some questions. How is your secondary school?

Do you like it? Did you make any new friends there?

Feel free to reply my letter to tell me your answer! I

hope to read your letter!

Best wishes,

Dear Steve, (AKA my boyish diary)

How are you? I am very sorry I haven’t written to you

for a long time. I’ve been very busy lately. One reason is

because of my project about my family tree. I had an

interview with my mom as my second task. Would you

like to know more about it? Well, you don’t have much

of a choice now do you?

First of all, we spoke about my mom’s so called,

personal information. I was told that she lived in a poor

family, and that being the elder sister on her family, she

had to cook, clean and look after her siblings.

After that, we spoke about her marriage. I learned that

my mom met my dad in a bus terminal and their

friendship turned into a relationship.

P.57

Finally, we spoke about her words of wisdom. Her words

of wisdom were a family that prays together, should

always stay together. My family takes religion extremely

seriously and that it is more important than school work

etc. But we do still need go to work and school, as long

as it doesn’t interfere with worship services.

Well, my mom needs me now. I’ll write to you later, see

you soon! Please win me marks.

I have many hobbies. Do you have one? Let me tell you my

cricket. I also like subjects such as Maths and Science. I just

love reading so much that I go to the library every week. I

also like to try different kinds of food. Such as Spanish and

spicy food! I also play the recorder and drums. I also like

singing!

My school has many activities, teachers and lots of students.

It has many facilities like the science and biology laboratory,

a gymnasium for exercising and a library for reading books

to gain knowledge. The difference between primary and

secondary school is you should have more responsibilities

and there’s a lot of homework. Don’t get short-tempered

easily because of the workload. My school is in Kwun Tong

and my school’s name is Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo).

Oh, I almost forgot. I got a great friend and his name is

Etisaam and he’s very responsible and very sporty. He is

very good on academics and we both like reading and we

also help each other very often. We also talk to each other

almost every-day. But my teacher says to stop talking

sometimes! You know a secret? In this school, my class

keeps calling my name!

I hope your school has many activities just like mine. I hope

your new school life starts with a fruitful start! I want you to

play hard and mostly make new friends fast. Haha… just

joking. Do you know the boys’ toilet stinks after lunch in my

school? If you have any funny things to talk about, please

don’t hesitate. If you have questions about secondary

school, please don’t hesitate to ask! Anytime.

Reflection of My Most

Challenging Moment TORRES ERIPRANDO JR

My most challenging moment would be in my primary

school. I went home by bus in my primary school before

once. I was walking to my building a long walk. Finally I got

there. I walked up the stairs and really tired and stressed

out. I was sweating then I was searching my bag for my

keys. I then searched all over again. Good thing I have my

phone with me. So I called my mom but she didn’t answer

so I call my dad. Same thing, he wouldn’t answer.

I went to my auntie’s house and stayed there for an hour.

Soon my mom answers the phone and my auntie said I

didn’t have the key, so my mom said “OK. I’ll ask his dad to

go and get him”. So I waited down the stairs at my house.

My dad opened the door. I got in and my bag was so heavy

which I carried for the whole time. And I just found out my

keys were in my shirt pocket all this time. I was so

disappointed.

How you doing?! I went to Paris a couple of days ago. I

really wish you were with us. I was with my besties!

Haha! There’s a really funny story why we went to Paris!

We went there to, of course, have fun and …Meet some

hot boys! I’ve been told that there were a ton of cute

boys in Paris! This trip was so special to me because firstly,

we went there on 12-12-12. I mean like we never get to

see 12-12-12 again because there isn’t another, another

month after December. So we have to treasure the

chance la!

Our first day in Paris was a little bit boring because all we

did was chill in the hotel the whole morning. But the view

on our balcony was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! So it was worth it.

We spent our afternoon looking at paintings in “Louvre

Museum”. It was spell bounding and in the evening, we

P.67

went to a fancy French restaurant. We ate this thing

called “Escargot”. I’m telling you, if you ever go to Paris

NEVER TRY ESCARGOT! It’s just so slimy that it gives

goose-bumps when you swallow it! But hey! You gotta try

new things because you only live once. Wow! What a

mainstream word of wisdom!

Ugh! Day 2 of our Paris trip was just a dream come true! I

feel so relieved looking at the tasty food for breakfast

down our hotel. I forget to tell you that there was a buffet

down our hotel. We went to “Place de la Concorde. Seeing

that tall statue or sculpture thingy was the happiest

moment of my life! I always see “Place de la Concorde”

on the internet or the television. We rode the Ferris wheel

near it. We saw the wonderful view up there! I wish I was

with a cute guy because people (again) see that riding the

Ferris wheel at night is very romantic with someone

special. For dinner, we went to a café. We drank their

finest mocha. It was delicious.

The last day of our trip is also one of the best trip we ever

had so far. I forgot what we did in the afternoon. Oh yeah!

P.68

We went souvenir shopping. In the evening, we finally

went to see the Eiffel Tower. It was so beautiful to see it

at night! The lights were just so elegant and so alive.

We returned to Hong Kong on 16-12-12 at night. We

bought all the souvenirs we bought there obviously.

We’ll meet on 17-12-12 for our hang out. Can’t wait to

see you! God bless and Muah!

souvenir shops near the surfing place but I’m afraid I

don’t have enough money to buy for you. Lastly, we are

going to have buffet for dinner. OH I can’t wait for

tomorrow.

I will be coming back to Hong Kong on 15th December.

Don’t forget to get my favourite jacket with you because

I’m sure it will be cold on that day. And also bring an

extra bag because our luggage will be very full. I will

meet you at the bus stop or at the restaurant near the

airport. Don’t forget to call me.

Your friend,

Patrick

A Food Poem YSABEL SAMANTHA DELA CRUZ CELIS

I love strawberries.

It is sweet and delicious

Small, sweet and juicy.

Not only strawberries

I also love raspberries

I love sweet barriers

They are very yummy

They make me want to eat more

Small, red, sweet and neat

They’re good for pastries

And sweet French macaroons too

Small, cute, pink and blue

Sweet delighting food

What can I do without you?

I guess I’ll be sad.

A Pen-Pal Letter YAMID AARON PARDENILLA

Dear John,

Hi, my name is Aaron. I am a Form 1 student studying

at Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo). I am eleven years

old. I live in Shau Kei Wan. I like sports like basketball

and football. I have a dog. I am also adventurous and

helpful.

My hobbies are singing, playing basketball, swimming,

playing football and playing the piano. How about you?

Do you have any hobbies? Be sure to tell me.

My new school is kinda big. My primary school is bigger

but this school’s big. It has a lot of facilities. I never had

in primary school like a science laboratory, a

gymnasium and a canteen. Are there any differences

between your primary and secondary school? Tell me in

the future.

I have a new friend at school. His name is Casey. He is

very funny and knows how to make people laugh. He is

also very considerate. He always thinks of others. We

have one thing in common and that’s being helpful.

Sometimes we hang out and play.

That’s all I want to say for now. By the way, what’s

your name? Which school do you study at? Hope you

can write back.

Yours truly,

Aaron
