Congratulations to our newest alumni! I know you were looking forward to walking
across the Convocation stage and I am sorry that the current situation regarding COVID-19 does not make it possible to hold Convocation in person. I am pleased, however, that we will be able to come together, virtually, to celebrate your achievements and success. Today, as we celebrate our Bicentennial, we welcome you to a network of more than 275,000 people across more than 180 countries connected through their alma mater. McGill’s alumni are committed to turning their knowledge, skills, and passions into making the world a better place. You will fit right into this wonderful community.
During your time at McGill, you have developed the capacity to dive deeper, the agility to adapt, and to take on the challenges of tomorrow. This has been especially true in the last months. I could not be more proud of the strength and resilience that you have demonstrated. We hope that McGill has provided you with opportunities that will open doors in your future, and allowed you to create memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
We must also thank everyone who helped you get where you are today— parents, relatives, friends, mentors—this is a big moment for them as well, and I look forward to us all coming together in-person to celebrate in the future.

Toutefois, je suis ravie que nous puissions nous réunir virtuellement pour célébrer vos réalisations et votre réussite. HOMMAGE AU CHANCELIER L’HONORABLE MICHAEL A. MEIGHEN, C.M., C.R. (B.A. 1960, LL. D. 2012)
The Spring 2021 Convocation marks the last time The Honourable Michael A. Meighen
presides over the ceremonies as Chancellor of McGill.
For the past seven years, Chancellor Meighen has played an important role in representing McGill both at home and elsewhere in the world. As Chancellor, Mr. Meighen has served superbly - combining great wisdom, thoughtfulness and elegance, offering wise counsel, and presiding over our convocation ceremonies with a remarkable combination of ceremonial style and warmth. His tireless commitment to McGill is admirable - he has been generous with his time and guidance, and exemplifies the values of higher education.
Over the course of his long association with McGill, beginning as a student half a century ago, and later as a member of the Board of Governors, Chair of the McGill Fund Council, the Campaign Steering Committee, and co-chair of Campaign McGill: History in the Making, Mr. Meighen has never forgotten his alma mater and his devotion to the University has taken many forms. Throughout the years, he has always been a wonderful ambassador for McGill and our community has benefitted in countless ways from his service.
We thank him for his unstinting and steadfast engagement, trust and loyalty.

dernières que l’honorable Michael A. Meighen présidera à titre de chancelier de l’Université McGill.
Au cours des sept dernières années, M. Meighen a occupé un rôle d’une grande importance en représentant McGill au pays et à l’étranger. Il a assumé ses fonctions de chancelier sans faille, faisant preuve d’une grande sagesse, de bienveillance et d’élégance et prodiguant de judicieux conseils. Il a présidé les cérémonies de collation des grades de l’Université en témoignant d’une admirable maîtrise du protocole, arrimée à une profonde chaleur humaine. Il a consacré à McGill d’innombrables heures et lui a fourni de judicieuses recommandations. Par son engagement indéfectible, Michael Meighen incarne les valeurs de l’enseignement supérieur.
Au fil de l’association de longue date qu’il a nouée avec l’Université, d’abord à titre d’étudiant il y a 50 ans, et plus tard, de membre du Conseil des gouverneurs, de président du Conseil des fonds, de membre du Conseil de financement de la campagne et de coprésident d’Inventer l’avenir, la campagne de financement de l’Université McGill, Michael Meighen n’a cessé de contribué à l’essor de son alma mater. Année après année, l’engagement de ce formidable ambassadeur s’est concrétisé de diverses façons, et la communauté mcgilloise a profité abondamment des bienfaits auxquels il a contribué.

milestone in your academic career. A university experience is challenging at
the best of times. I hope you feel tremendous pride in having persevered through your usual lectures, labs and exams under these most unusual circumstances.
I have no doubt that the pomp and circumstance of convocation was an occasion you were looking forward to celebrating with family and friends. Your virtual ceremony is still the occasion to mark the end of one great experience with McGill, and the beginning of a new phase in your life and your relationship with your alma mater.

DEAN’S HONOUR LIST
A graduand identified as being on the Dean’s Honour List must have earned a cumulative grade point average within the top ten per cent of their faculty’s graduating class.
HONOURS
Honours programs demand a high degree of specialization and require students to satisfy specific departmental requirements while maintaining a good academic standing. This category is designed to prepare students for graduate study. Joint Honours programs are available in related disciplines.
FIRST CLASS HONOURS
Graduating students registered in an Honours program who obtain a certain cumulative grade point average as established by their faculties are awarded “First Class Honours.”
DISTINCTION
The notation of “Distinction,” is awarded to students who have completed the required number of McGill credits for graduation and whose cumulative grade point average is in the top 25 per cent, but below the top ten per cent of their faculty’s graduating class.
MEDALS AND PRIZES
Details of the various medals and prizes awarded to students may be found in the calendars of the faculties and of the School of Continuing Studies.
TABLEAU D’HONNEUR DU DOYEN
Un diplômé inscrit au tableau d’honneur du doyen doit avoir obtenu une moyenne pondérée cumulative qui le place dans le premier décile de sa promotion.
PROGRAMME SPÉCIALISÉ
Un programme spécialisé exige un niveau de spécialisation élevé. Les étudiants doivent satisfaire aux exigences propres à leur département tout en obtenant de bons résultats académiques. Cette catégorie prépare en général les étudiants à des études supérieures. Des programmes spécialisés mixtes existent dans des disciplines connexes.
MENTION « TRÈS BIEN »
La mention « Très bien » est attribuée aux étudiants inscrits à un programme spécialisé qui obtiennent une moyenne pondérée cumulative équivalente à une norme fixée par leur faculté.
DISTINCTION
La mention « Distinction » est décernée aux étudiants qui ont obtenu le nombre réglementaire d’unités de McGill en vue de l’obtention de leur diplôme, ainsi qu’une moyenne pondérée cumulative qui se situe dans la tranche supérieure de 25 pour cent pour leur promotion, mais en deçà de la tranche supérieure de dix pour cent.
PRIX ET MÉDAILLES
