Professor Imran RahmanVice Chancellor
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh
Message from theVice Chancellor
Liberal Arts
Originally, a liberal arts education was the body of knowledge considered essential to make a free human being. It included many areas of study, ranging from grammar and rhetoric to astronomy and arithmetic. Today, this international system of education asks students to study a variety of subjects, giving them the opportunity to absorb many areas of knowledge. In this modern world, exploration is essential. As societies become increasingly interconnected and businesses intermingle, understanding a wide range of topics helps us connect with each other.e ability to think exibly and draw on diverse streams of knowledge – to innovate rather than imitate – is vital to success in the growing knowledge economy. e essence of liberal arts focuses on the breadth of knowledge as well
as the depth. It stresses communication skills and emphasizes critical analysis.Generally, liberal arts are taught using two methods. One is to establish a core curriculum. e other is to provide students with optional courses that they may take in any program of study. ULAB combines these two methods. e core curriculum ensures that all students have a common background to share ideas with, and build a foundation for, further education. At the same time, optional courses allow students to continue pursuing a wide base of knowledge, or to concentrate their studies in the form of a minor.e liberal arts system gives students freedom and control over their lives by teaching them comprehensive skills and the ability to keep adapting to a fast-changing modern world.

Devoted to Culture & Communication Studies
e curriculum is designed based on an analysis of demand and supply relating to the manpower requirements of the communication and media industry. From our studies, the department has developed courses in Digital Journalism, Digital Film and Television Production, Communication for Development and Public Relations. In addition, students are required to have internships in an organization to enable them to appreciate and experience the dynamics of working in a professional setting.
Communication is the heart of all social intercourse. Communication, at its very core, is interdisciplinary. Hence, the curriculum combines various elds in the discipline and actively recruits faculty from dierent academic training and traditions. e result is a dynamic department that discusses and explores social phenomena from many angles.
A uniquely designed program to expose students to the study of various cultural aspects-visual art, religion, music, fashion, historical traditions, communities, social relations and conicts, etc. It focuses on issues such as mass culture, popular culture, visual culture, globalization, gender, sexuality, media power, new communication technologies, normative, legal and ethical issues in media representation.

Emphasizing on Film, Media, Creative ArtPublic Relations, Journalism & C4D
A number of courses designed with a focus on skill development. Most of these courses end with creative productions like lm, photography, masks, installations or paintings. Apprenticeship and Outreach programs give the opportunity to increase students’ professional skills. Industry practitioners directly supervise these programs.
e department has strategically decided to focus on certain elds of Communication. e faculty has specializations in lm, media, creative art, public relations, journalism and C4D. e facilities provide adequate support to enable teaching in these areas.

IEB Accreditatione Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) under the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) has awarded accreditation to the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) program. e Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) program applied to the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) under the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) for accreditation. e objective of accreditation is to ensure that graduates acquire the attributes required to meet national and international standards, and there is a mechanism for the continual improvement of the programs under the School of Science and Engineering.
ResearchFaculty members of the School of Science and Engineering are actively engaged in state-of-the-art research in Cyber Security, Articial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, IoT, eoretical Neuroscience, Dynamical Systems, Pattern Recognition, Technology Enhanced Learning, Wireless Networks and Protocols, Cognitive Radio Networks, Machine Learning, Software Engineering and Quantum Computing, Renewable Energy, Power System and Smart Grid, Electric Vehicles, Smart Systems, Machine Learning Applications in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Device Characterization and Modeling, Biomedical Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Nanoelectronics and Photonics, Electronic Packaging. Faculty members present their work in professional settings and publish in peer-reviewed journals and conferences regularly.
Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum
e Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum is designed to achieve the goals at the course level and program level. Conceptualizing this OBE theory as a foundational structure, the School of Science and Engineering has set twelve Program Learning Outcomes which have been dened by BAETE. e curriculum for Outcome-Based Education (OBE) has been approved by the academic council, and the school has been practicing the OBE curriculum since Fall 2020.
Industry-Academia Relationship
Reputed speakers from both academia and industry are invited to present technical talks and conduction workshops. e programs under the School of Science and Engineering have formed Industry Advisory Panels (IAP) consisting of employers from leading technology-oriented companies, both public and private, which provide feedback on curriculum and possible integration with industry-oriented education. e SSE also organizes industry visits for the students regularly.
Project Showcase, Programming Contest, and Tech Fests
e CSE, EEE, and ETE programs under the School of Science and Engineering organize project showcases, programming contests, exhibitions, workshops, and tech fests to encourage students to enrich knowledge and technical skills with active participation and engagement. Students also participate in national and international events, competitions, contests, and conferences organized by others universities.
Well Equipped Laboratories
e EEE program emphasizes on students’ hands-on experience. e program has enriched laboratories equipped with modern hardware and software facilities. It has Electrical and Electronic Circuit Lab, Digital Systems Lab, Machine Lab, Power System Lab, Switchgear and Protection Lab, Control System and Robotics Lab, Communication Lab, Computer Simulation and VLSI Lab, and Physics and Chemistry Lab.

Internet of Things (IoT) Lab
Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) under ICT Ministry and ULAB have been jointly working to establish state of the art Internet of ings (IoT) Lab. IoT lab is an emerging technology lab which is a new capability platform in Bangladesh. It will enable experimentation on innovative services for academic and industrial users in the intersection of informatics, networks and robotics. IoT allows direct integration between the physical world and computer-based systems, helps to connect people, processes and devices. is specialized IoT Lab will be a pioneer in addressing important challenges of our industries, cities, farms, hospitals, homes, retail chains, personal lives and society.
Natural Language Processing and AI Lab
A lab with highly congured PCs with GPU, memory and storage to facilitate students and teachers for the research and development work with Natural Language Processing, Articial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. is dedicated high-end computing facility will be used by the students and teachers at 24×7 basis. is is expected to contribute to the research in the future.
Competitive Programming Lab
A dedicated high-end computing lab with PCs having high congurations including GPU, memory and storage to facilitate students in the competitive programming skills development. e CSE program has a growing number of students who have joined competitive programming groups to nurture and practice problem-solving skills. It is expected that ULAB CSE will have a much higher ranking in national and international programming contests in the future.
