1 Inlet chamber - “A”

1.1 General

The inlet structure of WWTP is divided by the concrete overflow weir into

the receiving and the conveying chambers.

The inlet chamber is the receiving structure of WWTP, the incoming waste

water from the pumping stations arrives here and is being conveyed via

concrete overflow weir to the main channel to the screening plant, which is

located downstream in direct vicinity to the inlet structure.

The inlet structure contains of an emergency overflow chamber, which is

connected via reinforced concrete pipe DN800 to the collecting manhole

downstream of primary sedimentation tanks. The main goal of the

emergency overflow chamber is to protect the WWTP structures located

further downstream against flooding.

1.2 Water levels

• 4,11 m Overflow weir receiving chamber

• 4,30 m max. W.L. receiving chamber

• 4,00 m Emergency overflow conveying chamber

• 3,83 m max. W.L. main conveying channel

4. Grit Chamber - “E”

4.1 General

The main goal of the package unit XE 100 is the removal of settled sand

within the grit chamber.

The grit chamber E is divided into two parallel tanks. The tanks are

equipped with manually operated penstocks at the inlet and with fixed

overflow weir at the outlet.

The grit chamber is equipped with a coarse bubble aeration system.

There is a travelling twin scraper bridge for grit removal, which is equipped

with two grit suction pumps (ME103 and ME104), one for each tank.

The grit is pumped from the bottom of the grit tanks by pumps ME103 and

ME104 into two separate sand traps located at the edge of each grit

chamber. The sand traps have drainage holes to discharge the drain water

back to the grit tanks. At the outlet side of each sand trap a weir with

channel gate is installed. The grit collected in the sand traps will be

removed manually into container for further disposal.

4.2 Water levels

1. Water levels in the grit removal tanks

5. Venturi flume

5.1 General

The Khafagi-Venturi flume is installed in the outlet collection channel of

grit removal chamber. Together with the ultrasonic sensor and transmitter

units this flume forms the incoming waste water flow measurement system.

The waste water elevation in the flume is measured by the ultrasonic sensor

and then the measured level is being recalculated into the actual flow, using

the pre-programmed linearization tables.

6. Primary sedimentation tank – “G”

6.1 General

The main goal of the package unit XG 100 is to reduce the amount of

organic matter in the waste water by means of sedimentation.

The primary sedimentation tank G is divided into two parallel rectangular

chambers G1 + G2. At the inlet of each chamber a manually operated

penstock is installed. The distribution of the incoming waste water will be

done by series of Stengel pipes DN250, equipped with deflectors. At the

outlet the overflow weirs are provided, and the effluent waste water is

collected by one collection outlet channel.

There is one travelling twin-scraper bridge for removal of primary sludge

from the bottom of the chambers as well as for removal of floating

scum/grease from the surface, which is equipped with two bottom scraper s

and two surface scum shields, a pair for each chamber.

At the inlet chamber of the primary sedimentation tank the pH and

temperature measurement system QG101Z is installed.

8.1 General

The raw sludge from the primary sludge pumping station has still the

biological activity. For further treatment and final disposal the stabilization

of the sludge is indispensably required.

The sludge stabilization will be done by anaerobic digestion. The volume

required for this process will be provided by construction of the three open

digestion ponds.

The mechanical equipment of the digestion ponds contains of the sludge

feeding piping with distribution gate valves, digested sludge withdrawal

piping and of the telescopic valves for the supernatant removal.

The digested sludge will have a dry solids content of about 5% after

digestion time of 30 days. For the next treatment step (sludge dewatering)

the digested sludge will be conveyed to the drying beds by gravity.

9. Sludge Drying Beds – “R1”-“R12”

9.1 General

In order to reduce the volume of the digested sludge prior to the final

disposal the sludge dewatering is necessary.

Roof covered sludge drying beds are constructed, the sludge dewatering is

achieved by natural evaporation and with an aid of the drainage system. In

total twelve drying beds will be constructed, to provide the necessary

volume. The max. sludge filling height is 30 cm.

The structure of the drying bed comprises as well holding and separation

walls as permeable filtering layer (gravel, sand) of 20 cm thickness for the

removal of the sludge liquor via the drainage system.

10. Sludge Water Pumping Station – “X”

10.1 General

In order to withdraw the surplus water from the digestion ponds

and the drainage water from the sludge drying beds a sludge water

pumping station is foreseen.

The sludge water will be pumped into the inlet channel of the

Primary Sedimentation Tanks.

The sludge water pumping station is equipped with two submersible

‘ pumps, one in operation and one stand-by

10.2 Water level

Water level in the pump sump

10.5 The Control System

1. Low Voltage Motor Control Centre : LV-MCC2

The control system of the sludge water pumping station is

installed at LV-MCC2 and contains of following features for

each motor:

• Key selector switch “Manual” – “0” – “Auto”

• Pushbuttons “ON” and “OFF”

• Indicator lamps “RUN- GREEN”, “FAULT- RED”

• Ampere meter

• Operation hours counter

2. Local Control Panels

The local control panels are installed in the direct vicinity to the equipment

to be operated and include following control and indication elements:

• Key selector switch “Manual” – “0” – “Auto”

• Illuminated “ON-GREEN” pushbutton

• “OFF” pushbutton

• Indicator lamp “FAULT- RED”

3. Emergency Pushbutton System

In case of emergency the sludge water pumping station could be

immediately stopped, by pressing of the emergency switch foreseen:

• Main emergency mushroom switch, located directly at sludge water

pumping station

4. Alarm Acknowledgment System

In case of any emergency switch was pressed or any alarm (e.g. circuit

breaker trip, power cut off) occurs an alarm acknowledge is necessary. As

soon all the emergency switches are released, the cause of the alarm has

been found and fault has been eliminated, the operator has to press the

alarm acknowledgement button to confirm that the system is ready for

further operation.

5. Level Measurement System

Three float level switches are installed in the pump sump of the sludge

water pumping station. The main features of the system comprise of:

• Measurement of sludge water level inside of the pump sump

• Adjustable control and monitoring functions

• Dry running protection of the pumps

6. Operation in Automatic Mode

11. Pump operation according to the level

a. Pumps are operated within pre-set running hours to assure equal

operation hours for each pump

b. If pump fails to operate, it will be automatically locked out and alarm

signal will be given

c. Stand-by pump automatically takes the place of the failed one

d. The control of the pumps depends solely on current liquid level in the

pump sump, determined by the level measurement system LX 101F –

102F – 103F

e. The operation of the pumps is protected by the level measurement

system
