The pavilion is divided into three sections:

The AuthorsThis section introduces four featured authors: Chen Uen, Chang-Shen, HOM, and Honey Chen. Chen Uen was a leading artist of the Taiwanese comics renaissance back in the 1980s. His work was a milestone in the development of Taiwanese manga. Chang-Shen is a mainstream market author. Most of his works are based on science fiction. Having worked in the advertising industry, Chang-Shen’s illustration techniques are mature and sophisticated. His female characters are particularly gorgeous, and have been wildly popular both in Taiwan and abroad.HOM is one of the best artists of the young generation. With her sentimental, attentive eyes, HOM depicts different aspects of the ordinary lives of modern city dwellers. The stories in her works have resonated with young readers.Lastly, Honey Chen is not only an outstanding artist in the genre of girls’ manga, but also a professional cosplayer. Her glamorous cosplay look at the pavilion is a must-see!

The WorksIn addition to the four featured artists, the pavilion also exhibits a selection of thirty 1980s titles with a wide variety of styles. They are regarded as some of the most significant and representative Taiwanese comics. Through these masterpieces, we wish to showcase the diversity of Taiwanese comics in terms of their topics and aesthetics.

The PublishersWe have invited some of Taiwan’s most active comic publishing houses to the fair. Born Chen Jin-Wen, alias Chen Uen. After working for numerous design companies in his early years, Chen started up his own interior design firm. In 1983, he published his first comic work, Warrior Panther. After receiving positive reviews, he then published Fighting against God and Legends of Assassins from Records of the Grand Historian. His meticulous drawing style combines Chinese ink painting with western sketching to boldly convey stories of heroic chivalry. In 1990, he gained notoriety after receiving an invitation from Japan’s most prominent comic publishing company, Kodansha, to publish a comic series in Japan relating to Chinese history: The Heroes of Eastern Zhou. At the 1991 Japanese Cartoonists’ Association Awards, Chen received the prestigious “Excellence Award”, making him the first non-Japanese to do so in 20 years. Japan’s Asahi News praised him as a “genius, talent, prodigy” unmatched in the comic world in 20 years, and he became known as the “Treasure of Asia” in Japan’s comic industry. Chen Uen passed away on March 26, 2017 at the age of 58. 常勝Chang-Sheng, who was born in Ta ipe i , Ta iwan in 1968 , graduated from Fu-Shin Trade & Arts School. Since his childhood, he has a st rong interest in com ics . Truly a homegrown master, HOM began her successful manga career as a hobby while she was working in media and game design. Her science fiction manga The Searcher won a Golden Comic Award for Best Up-and-Coming Artist in 2011. Meanwhile, HOM had been posting comics about real life and real people on her Facebook page, gradually amassing a fan base. Those comics eventually became Big City, Little Things, the series which has come to define her style and artistic acumen. She’s currently working with a video production company on a new story, titled The Actor.
