The Chairman (Director) welcomed the members to the Special Meeting (27th Meeting) of the Senate. He stated that the special meeting was convened to consider award of degrees to the students who have qualified for the award of degrees in various disciplines/courses.

Before taking up the agenda item, the Senate thanked the under­mentioned outgoing members and recorded its appreciation for their valuable contribution in the meetings of the Senate.

RESOLVED THAT the Director (Chairman, Senate) be authorized to nominate two members on the Board of Studies as per the new regulations on behalf of the Senate.

Item No. 27.2.3: To consider the Academic Calendar for the Spring Semester 2008-09 Session.

RESOLEVD THAT the Academic Calendar for the Spring Semester 2008-2009 session as gIven at Appendix 'D' be approved.

Further, decided that the Students Affairs Council will re-visit the issue related to continuation of the Mid Semester Break in the Institute.

Item No. 27.2.4: To consider the policy of calculating engagement hours of faculty.

This item was withdrawn.

Item No. 27.2.5: To consider the formats of the Degrees to be awarded to the students of Integrated Dual Degree, Integrated M.Tech. and Integrated M.Sc. programmes.

RESOLVED THAT the formats of the Degrees to be awarded to the students of Integrated Dual Degree, Integrated M.Tech. and Integrated M.Sc. programmes as given at Appendices 'E', 'F', 'G' & 'H' be approved.

Item No. 27.2.6: To consider the modifications and changes in ordinances and regulations for B.Tech., B.Arch., Integrated Dual Degree and Integrated Master's Programmes.

Prof. G.S. Srivastava, Dean (Academic Studies) briefed the house about some salient features of the modifications/ changes in the Ordinance and Regulations for B.Tech., B.Arch., Integrated Dual Degree and Integrated Master's Programmes. After protracted discussion, the Senate decided that the suggestions, inconsistencies, additions, deletions etc. pointed out by the members during the meeting of the Senate, be incorporated by the Dean (Academic Studies). Thereafter, the editorial corrections, if any, be made by the under-mentioned Committee in the Ordinance & Regulations within 15 days, so that the same may be placed before the Director (Chairman, Senate) for approval:

The Senate authorized the Director (Chairman, Senate) to approve the said Ordinance and Regulations on behalf of the Senate for placing the same before the Board of Governors for specific approval. The action so taken, be reported to the Senate at its next meeting.

Item No.27.2.7: To consider the report of restructuring M.Tech. programmes.

The Senate decided that the inputs in respect of the report of the restructuring M.Tech. programmes be obtained from the Departments. The inputs, so received, from the Departments be considered by the Board of Studies and placed before the Senate for approval.

Item No.27.2.8: To consider the report of restructuring M.Sc. programmes.

The Senate decided that the inputs in respect of the report of the restructuring M.Sc. programmes be obtained from the concerned Departments. The inputs, so received, from the Departments be considered by the Board of Studies and placed before the Senate for approval.

Item No. 27.2.9: To consider the proposal of Department of Earthquake Engineering to change the minimum educational qualification for admission to M.Tech. (Earthquake ).

As considered and recommended by the Board of Studies, the Senate decided that Mechanical Engineering be dropped as one of minimum educational qualification for admission to M.Tech. (Earthquake).

Item No.27.3.1: To report the nomination of two members from the Institute Senate on the Students Affairs Council (SAC).

Noted that the Director (Chairman, Senate) nominated the under-mentioned two members from the Institute Senate on the Students Affairs Council (SAC) for the Session 2008-2009:

Item No. 27.3.2: To report about the Revision of Tuition Fees by MHRD and enhancement of hostel rent from all resident students.

Noted that the MHRD vide letter No. F.No 8-6/2008-TS.I dated 2nd May 2008 has revised the Tuition Fee of B.Tech Rs.25,000/- per semester and M.Tech. Rs.25,000/- per semester (with a fee waiver of Rs.20,000/- for non sponsored candidates).

Further, the hostel rent for all resident students had been enhanced to Rs.2000/-per semester.

Item No.27.3.3: To report the admission to M.Tech (Geological Technology) and M. Tech. (Geophysical Technology) through lateral entry in the year 2009.

Noted that the Director (Chairman, Senate) has approved the decision taken by the Executive Committee of the Senate in its meeting held on 18th September 2008 in respect of new programmes in the Department of Earth Sciences as under:

The intake to each 5-year Integrated M.Tech. course at the 1st year level through JEE, shall be 31, and at the 3rd year level 12 students shall be admitted to each course through JAM. The former will be awarded the Integrated M.Tech. Degree in Geological Technology or Geophysical Technology, as applicable. The latter shall be awarded the M.Tech. degree in Geophysical Technology or Geological Technology, as applicable. Assistantship will be admissible to the JEE entrants during the 5 th year, provided they have a valid GATE score or have a CGPA of 8.0 or more at the end of the 4th year. In the case of JAM entrants Assistantship may be made available during the final year to those students who have a valid GATE score.
