Need for Additional Educational Tools•Bridging the Gap Between Urban/Suburban Communities and the Farm•Meet the educational and nutritional needs of the region and promote awareness of being good stewards of land, water, and air

•In 2013, 2,255 students, teachers, and families visited – some had never seen a cow, touched a chicken, or walked through a woods 

•Readily-available and consistent information for students and visitors to increase agricultural literacy

Implementation•Pilot Rollout for Smart-Farm

•Rolled out on 10/19/2013 at Flint Hill Farm Agricultural Education Center’s Fall Open House

•Volunteers enlisted participants, helped them download Aurasma, and “follow” the farm

•Others were stationed near trigger images to help participants access videos or troubleshoot technical issues

Issues from Smart-Farm’s Pilot •Technology

•No farm-wide wireless •Dependent on participants’ data plans•Aurasma downloads were slow and did not always work

•Following first day rollout, small groups had better success

•Safety •Running/walking while looking at phones•Stationary, but still engaging
