BPV CODE: SECTION IX WELDING AND BRAZING QUALIFICATION

ASME Certificate Course on Welding & Brazing Qualifications ASME BPVC Section IX 3 Days, 2.25 CEUs, 22.5 PDHs

Beginning with a review of basic metallurgical principles and the common are welding processes addressed by Section IX of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, this course looks at the essential and nonessential variables for the qualification of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) procedures. It offers some historical insight into the justification for the ASME Boiler and pressure Vessel Code and explains how Section IX is used in conjunction with other ASME construction codes. It covers developing both a welding procedure and a welding performance qualification using customer requirements, as well as the modification of a welding procedure specification to include supplementary essential variables when notch toughness is required. Time is provided to address specific problems and concerns of the class. All participants must bring the BPVC-IX - 2010 BPVC Section IX-Welding and Brazing Qualifications codebook to Class.

This course Illuminates the structure of Section IX and illustrates its requirements. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

• Learn how to achieve economical compliance with ASME Section IX requirements • Gain experience to interpret, understand and comply with ASME Section IX • Review welding processes /variables and basic welding metallurgy • Review the recent changes to Section IX

Emphasis is placed on writing and qualifying welding procedures that follow Section IX Requirements for welders, brazers and operators are closely examined. Time is provided to address specific problems and concerns of the class.

Who Should Attend This course will be valuable for engineers, supervisors, quality assurance / control personnel, third party inspectors, auditors, or any one else working in boiler, pressure vessel, petrochemical, bio pharmaceutical or any other industry whose welding qualifications are governed by Section IX of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.

Why? It takes considerable period if one were to understand and apply the rules of ASME section IX by oneself and / or by experience. This course is specially structured to enable the participant to quickly grasp & understand the layout, scope, structure and rules of ASME section IX and to facilitate its efficient and effective application for welding qualifications of procedures and personnel.

Course Description:

• Historical perspective of welding and code development • The relationship of Section IX to other codes. • The secret to using Section IX efficiently. • Review of the welding processes: fuel gas, shielded metal

arc, gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, submerged arc, plasma arc electroslag, electrogas, electron beam, stud, friction, resistance, explosion.

• In-depth review of SMAW variables. – P, S, F nos. ,SFA specifications.

• Variables for other common processes • Practical Aspects • Selecting, preparing, and welding the test coupon-Practice

Session &Take home Test • Welder and welding operator qualifications • Impact Tested Qualifications • Brazing Qualifications
