INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL ANNUAL REPORT

2017 - 2018

The college has always been driven by a quest for excellence; it alsorecognized a need for

Excellence and formed the IQAC (Internal QualityAssessment Cell) Committee to work towards

the need. IQAC was formedon 6th February 2014 as per the NAAC guide lines. The IQAC plans

andimplements strategies for quality assurance. The institution continuesto strive for excellence

taking in mind of the change in valuesnecessitated by the impact of technology and globalization

and theincreasing private participation in higher education. IQAC ensuresprompt and efficient

academic performances. The IQAC is made up of ateam of five internal and two external members,

headed by thePrincipal. It meets formally once each semester. It also Endeavours tomaintain quality

in teaching – Learning and evaluation, it alsoensures adequate infrastructure as per the

requirements. This academic year, we organised various programmes to meet the requirements of

IQAC.

FACULTY DEVOTION

IQAC organised Faculty Devotion on the 2nd

June 2017. The programme started with the

prayer song by the College Staff Choir and praise and worship was lead by Pastor Tenny Jinnans.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

First session the resource person was Mrs. Emily Titus, Principal, St. Ebbas School who

explained “Trends in Modern Teaching & classroom Environment”. She also delivered the keynote

on how to understand the students‟ psychology. The second session was with Mrs. Hannah

Kirubaraj, Professional Trainer, who presented on the topic “Classroom Teaching for promoting

Creativity” in an attractive way with audio-video visuals.

FACULTY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

Internal Quality Assurance Cell of our college conducted a Faculty Orientation Programme

on 8th

June 2017 at their campus. The Resource Person for the day was Dr. Sridevi, Associate

Professor, C. T. T. E. College for Women.

Dr. Sridevi deliberated on “Performance Excellence - Self Appraisal and Accreditation” and

highlighted on the development of women empowerment, and the aspects of NAAC accreditation

and its implementations.



IQAC MEETING

On 08/09/2017, the IQAC conducted a meeting with the College Secretary. The new norms

of NAAC were well explained by the Principal. The action plan for the year was approved by the

Management.

Quality Practice in Higher Education

IQAC organized a workshop on “Quality Practices in Higher Education” on 16/12/17. The

program was inaugurated by Dr. R. P. Pankaja, Principal, D. B. Jain College, Thoraipakkam,

Chennai.

Dr. Pankaja deliberated on “IQAC as a Tool for Improving Quality Education in Higher

Educational Institution”. Dr. N. C. Rajashree, Controller of Examinations, Guru Nanak College,

Chennai highlighted on ”Standards and Mechanisms for Upgrading, Improvisation and Evaluation

of Quality” and the resource person for the final Session was Dr. A. Xavier Mahimairaj, IQAC

Coordinator, Loyola College, Chennai, who emphasized on the “Role of Assessment and Ranking

Framework in Higher Education through Self Evaluation and Institutional Development”.

60 participants from other Colleges were benefitted and enriched by the sessions.

INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION FOR STANDARDIZATION

Quality with system is the icing on the cake to Annai Violet College.The College was

certified by TUV SUD South Asia, 9001 2009. Thecollege was further upgraded to 9001 2015

version and has acknowledgedthis by receiving the certificate on 23rd

Jan 2018. Dr. Uma Sarulatha,

Head, Department of Commerce coordinates and implementsthe quality system procedures in

college.

ISO ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

An ISO Orientation Programme was conducted on 9th

June 2017 in which, the Guest for the

day was ISO Consultant Mr. Sekar. College Principal welcomed the gathering and felicitated the

Guest.

Mr. Sekar spoke about the importance of upgrading ISO 90001-2009 to 2009-2015, he also

highlighted on ISO and its standards of documentation. He also gave the key notes to achieve the

quality of ISO.

We, at the Department of PG and Research have endeavoured all year round to help the

young minds in our department to motivate their passion for Research through various activities.

SEMINAR:

The Department conducted a seminar on "Career Opportunities in Financial Market" on

14/07/17. Mr. M. Jayaprakash, Director from MCUBE Academy of Skills Development Pvt. Ltd.

was the Resource Person.

On 11/08/17, the Department organized a seminar on "Recent Trends in HR", in which Mr.

Kamalakhannan, Asst. Prof. of Commerce, Vels University was the Chief Guest.

Department of Commerce (PG & UG) organized a seminar on 20th September 2017 on

“Impact of GST in Indian Industries”. The Resource person Mr. T. Sivasankaran, Chartered

Accountant, addressed the students about the impact of GST in the industries. UG final year

students too attended the seminar along with the PG students.

The department organized a seminar on 25/01/2018 on “Work Life Balance” to students of

M. Com, M. A. And M. Sc. Assistant Professor Mrs. Jerusha Irene Chitra, Women's Christian

College, was the Resource Person. She briefed about the strategies and techniques of Work life

balance in which the students had an informative and interactive session.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT:

The department organised an Industrial visit to Stock Exchange Zonal Office, Chennai on

07.09.2017 in which the Career Counsellor of NISM (National Institute of Securities Market) Mr.

Jeyaprakash addressed the students about the shares and securities. The session was informative and

beneficial to the students.

WORKSHOP:

The department organized a one day workshop on “Research Methodology & Data Analysis

using SPSS” on 22nd September 2017 in which Dr. G. Vijaya Kumar, Assistant Professor &

Research Supervisor from Sir Theagaraya College explained the methods in Data analysis using

SPSS.

UNDERGRADUATE DEPARTMENT

The academic year 2017-18 provided a series of opportunities and achievements for the

undergraduate students. Students were encouraged to participate in various seminars and events to

keep their knowledge updated.

WISCOM CLUB:

The Club organised a seminar on “Advertising Regulations” on 29th

August 2017. The

seminar was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the Session Dr. Mary Sujatha, Asst. Prof., Soka



Ikeda Arts and Science College for Women. The seminar was really informative in which, the

students was elucidated about the recent regulations relating to advertisement and the facts about

advertising.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) had selected 20 colleges in Chennai for participating

in their quiz competitions. Our College was one of the top twenty colleges selected for the quiz.

270 students took part in the quiz. The students got an idea about NSE and it was an eye opener

about various general knowledge questions.

A debate was conducted on 7th

Sep‟17 for the second year students on the topic of

Demonetization.

COMFEST 2018

Commerce and Management departments together organised an intercollegiate event,

“Comfest 2018”, on 23rd

Feb‟ 18 in which, 86 students from 14 colleges participated. Dr. R.

Savithri, Dean & Head of Commerce, S. D. N. B. Vaishnav College for Women, inaugurated the

event and Dr. Sampath Samraj, Head of Commerce, Pachaiyappa's College gave the Valedictory

Address. A newsletter “Talk” on all the branches of Commerce was released. Events like

Connections, Ad Mad, Best Manager, Business Quiz, Just a Minute, and Entrepreneur Start up were

conducted.



DEPARTMENT OF CORPORATE SECRETARYSHIP

CONQUER CLUB

The Conquer Club of Corporate Secretaryship organised a Guest Lecture on 18/08/17 on the

topic “EXIM Procedures”. Mr. S. Vijai, AGM Operations, NITTSU Logistics Pvt. Ltd., was the

Resource Person. He addressed around 130 students who actively participated and got benefitted.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT:

On 30/08/2017, the department organised an Industrial Visit to Modern Bakers Pvt. Ltd.,

Madhavaram for the final year students. Mr. Rajpalan, the Administrative Officer, addressed the

students and proceeded with the working procedures.

GUEST LECTURE:

The club organised a Guest Lecture on 10.01.18 on “Demonetization”. Mrs. V. Padmalatha,

Associate Professor, Bakthavatchalam Memorial College, was the Chief Guest. It was an interactive

session and she addressed around 135 students who participated actively.

FINO CLUB

Fino Club organized a Guest Lecture on “Time Management” on 15/07/2017. The Program

was presided by Dr. T. K. Avvai Kothai, Associate Professor of Commerce, Guru Nanak College.

The Speaker enlightened the tips of time management, how to make use of it in a resourceful

manner, the importance of communications etc. The session was informative and useful for the

students.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT

On 08/08/2017, the Department of Business Administration organised a financial gallery

Visit to RBI for second and final year students. Smt. D. Vinodhini, Asst Manager, HRD of RBI had

an interesting and informative interactive session with the students on the objectives and functions

of RBI. This session proved to be beneficial to the students.

SEMINAR

The Explorer Club of BBA organised a seminar on “Financial Planning” on 10th

August,

2017 in which, Dr. A. Shameem, MBA, PG Dip., Mgt. Research, PhD. Certified Resource Person

of SEBI was the Chief Guest. Various topics like Early Investment, Role and Functions of SEBI.

100 students participated and got benefited by the program.



The department organised a seminar on 19.12.17 on “India - the Growth Leader”. The Chief

Guest for the day was Dr. C. D. Balaji from Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA).

He enlightened the students with his knowledge on various topics. He inspired and motivated the

CLUSTER CLUB

The Department‟s Cluster Club organised a seminar on 31st August 2017 on the Topic

“Recent Trends and Challenges in Information Technology”. Dr. G. Suseendran, Associate

Professor, School of Computing Science, Vels University, Pallavaram, was the Resource

person.Nearly 100 students took part in the seminar.

National Symposium "Vio-Tech 2K18" on 15th & 16th of February, 2018. 176 students from 21

The Cipher club of Computer Science organized a Technical Seminar on 8th

September 2017

in the topic “Normalization in Big Data”, in the college premises. The seminar was inaugurated by

seminar by explaining the methods and steps in day to day applications of Big Data with

Normalization.



INDUSTRIAL VISIT

The Final year students of Computer Science visited HELLO FM on 21/9/17 for Industrial

visit. Students were given a demo on Audio Vault, Music Mixer, Ad Jammer Softwares by RJ

Kumudha, RJ K. K., RJ Deepa Venkat and Networking by Mr. Senthil. They explained on Inter

Networking, Frequency Bandwidth and Hub Connectivity used for program broadcasting. The

students experienced a live show recording and had an interactive session with RJ's & network

engineers.

The Literaria Club organised a Guest Lecture on "Personality Enrichment" for the benefit of

the second year foundation course students on 22nd

September, 2017. Asst. Prof. Dr. M. V. Sunitha

of Pachaiyappa's College was the Resource Person of the day. 110 Students enthusiastically

participated and got benefitted by the session.

The Club organised a Guest Lecture on "Post-Colonial Literature in English" for the UG

and PG students of English on 22nd September, 2017 in which Asst. Prof. Dr. M. V. Sunitha of

CHENNAI LITERARY ASSOCIATION

The Chennai Literary Association conducted various competitions at M. G. R. Janaki

College on 9th

December 2017. We, being the part of this Association, conducted an event “Stage a

Shakespearean Scene” in which 8 colleges participated and won prizes.

WORKSHOP ON THEATRE

The club along with Chennai Literary Association organized a workshop on THEATRE in

our campus on09/01/2018. The Resource Person of the day was Dr. David Wesley, Asst Prof.,

Department of English, Madras Christian College. He deliberated on Theatre Techniques as hands



on training to students. 17 students from various colleges and 25 students of our college

participated.

LITERARIA - 2018

The Literaria Club organized their club activity with the theme “Children‟s Literature” on 24th

January 2018.The Chief Guest for the day was Prof. I. A. J. Jeyadoss, Associate Professor,

Department of English, Loyola College. The department‟s Newsletter “INSIGHT” was released by

the dignitaries. Students participated and exhibited their innovative ideas in various offstage

competitions like Model Presentation, Poster Presentation and Plays enacted Onstage.

A DAY OUT TO THE LIBRARY

The students of English, UG and PG, were taken to the American Library on 21st February

2017. Mr. Premkumar and Ms. Usha Alagappan, Outreach Librarians, interacted with the students



on Online Resources available in and out of the library. A documentary movie “March” was

screened to introduce the facilities inside the Library and a movie “Lincoln” was screened in which,

44 members were benefitted.

CONVERSATION WITH AN AUTHOR

UG and PG students of English attendend a programme “A Conversation with an Author” at

CTTE College on 23rd

Feb‟ 18, where they had an opportunity to meet the Tamil Writer Mr.

The College organized Chev. Dr. N. R. Dhanapalan Intercollegiate Basketball

participated in the event which was initiated by Chev. Dr. N. R. Dhanapalan by shooting the first

ball after the formal invocation.

The Chief Guest for the Valedictory was Mrs. Violet Dhanapalan, Vice Chairman, Violet

The College organized “The 4th

Chev. Dr. N. R. Dhanapalan Intercollegiate Athletic

Meet” on Wednesday, the 3rd

January 2018 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The event began at

8.00 am. The College Founder and Chairman PMJF Ln. Dr. N. R. Dhanapalan inaugurated the

athletic meet and flagged off the first event. MJF Ln. V. R. Shanmuga Sundaram, District

Governor, PMJF B. Sathyanarayana Murthy, Second Vice District Governor and Ln. R.

Sampath, LCIF, Regional Co-Coordinator lighted the athletic torch. Ln. N. R. D. Prem Kumar,



Secretary and Dr. P. E. R. Premchand, Joint Secretary, Annai Violet Group of Institution,

declared the meet open.

37 Colleges in and around Chennai participated in the track and field events. The athletic

event was initiated with an invocation song. Eminent and Experienced referees from various

colleges guided the events. College Physical Director Mr. J. Ram Kumar of AVASC declared the

winners with his fair and unbiased judgement.

The Chief Guest for the valedictory was Mr. A. Rajan - Athletic Coach, Sports Hostel of

Excellence, Tamilnadu, who is an Asian Gold Medalist in 800 mts, Asian Games, Tokyo,1981.

He mesmerised the students and participants with his motivational speech and distributed the

prizes and cash awards to the winners.

MARATHON & ZUMBA

Annai Violet College, in order to manifest the importance of Fitness in the curious minds

of the students, organised two different events such asMarathon & Zumba.

Mini Marathon5 kms was conducted on 10th

February 2018, 450 students participated.

On 24th

February 2018, a Workshop on “Health and Fitness” was conducted. Four

Zumba instructors from Starz Ram, Dance Academy, trained and highlighted the need

for physical fitness among the Staff and students. This is to create awareness and motivate the

students towards “Healthy Youth, Healthy India”. 100 Students participated enthusiastically and

surprised the instructors with their spontaneous moves.

NSS & YRC Units together organized a “Tree plantation & Road Safety Awareness

Programme” on 15th

July, 2017 at the College Premises. Chief Guest Mr. K. Thirunavukkarasu,

Driving Instructor, Institute of Road Transport, Gummudipoondi and Students planted the

saplings.

The next session was a Structured Program by the Chief Guest regarding the road safety.

instructed the students to follow the traffic rules by knowing the important symbols on road. It

was effective and informative session for them. 200 volunteers participated in the programme.

IN MEMORY OF 2ND

DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. A. P. J. ABDUL KALAM

NSS Unit organized a human chain in the name A.P.J to commemorate the 2nd

death

anniversary of the Great Missile Man of honour Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 27th

July, 2017 at



the college premises. Nearly 1038 students participated who had placards which had the quotes

of Kalam.

SWACCHTHA PAKHWARA

NSS together organised “Swachhta Packwara” cleaning activity for two weeks(100

hours) from 1st August to 15

th August 2017. As a part of this session 300 NSS volunteers made

the campus visited “Anandham Old Age Home” and “Anna Anadhai Illam” where they actively

involved in keeping healthy and clean surroundings. The Swachhta Packwara activity was

explained by the NSS programme Officer Mrs. D. Suja, Asst. Prof. of Biochemistry. The session

ended with taking a swachhta oath by the NSS Volunteers, Leo Club Members, and Staff

Members.

DEWORMING DAY

On 10/08/17, the NSS Unit organized a program in the College premises and distributed

the Deworming tablets from Ambattur Corporation to the students in lieu of “Deworming Day”.

On 11/08/17, NSS & Leo Club of our College celebrated “International Youth Day” by

taking pledge.

CHENNAI DAY CELEBRATION

On 26/08/17, NSS Unit & Leo Club together celebrated the Chennai Day & Mother

Theresa's Birthday at Annai Anaadai Illam, in which, our Chairman & Lion's Club, Chetpet

President N. S. Rani, Ln. Mr. Parthiban, Ln. Mr. Shanmua Vinayagam & Ln. Mr. Gopinath were

present.

FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS

NSS, YRC & Leo Club of AVASC organised an awareness program on “Fire safety” on

31st August, 2017. Mr. Sainth Mahandsha (S.F.O), Mr. G. Muthukrishnan (L.F), Mr. Y. Palraj

(S.O.T) & seven fire fighters from Fire Rescue Station, Ambattur explained the fire safety



aspects and demonstrated the safety measures during fire.500 volunteers including Support Staff,

participated.

WORLD PEACE DAY

NSS & Leo Club of AVASC organized a special programme on “International World

Peace Day” on 21st Sep‟ 17 to keep up the solidarity and to maintain peace with in and around

everyone‟s life. 300 students participated.

BIKE AWARENESS PROGRAMME

NSS along with Leo club organized a “Bike Awareness Programme” on 28/09/17 in

which, Dr. A. Abubekar Siddiq, M. D. of A. L. F. Pvt. Ltd. & Principal of Madras Mechanical

Institute was the Chief Guest. He explained the road rules and the speed limit for the two

wheelers. He also insisted the students to follow the rules for their safe journey.

DENGUE AWARENESS RALLY

NSS and YRC together participated in the “Dengue Awareness Rally" on 5th

October

2018 organized by Chennai Corporation Health Department (Zone - 7, Div 81 & 82, Ambattur).

Asst. Comm. Zonal Officer Mr. Bala Subramanian, Zonal Health Officer Dr. Sheela, Sanitary

Officer Mr. Kesavan, Sanitary Inspector Mr. R. Ramesh, Staffs and Students were present in the

event.

LEPROSY AWARENESS

NSS organized a "Leprosy Awareness Program" on 21/12/17 with the coordination of

Ambattur Health Centre in the College premises. Mr. Issac Arulkumar (Health Inspector), Mr.

Marian, Mr. Rajendran, Mr. Ravichandran, Mr. Kathiravan, Mr. Nagarajan and Deputy Director

(Leprosy Chennai District, DMS HB Campus) were present over the event. 160 students

attended the program.

On World Leprosy Day (30/01/18), NSS and Leo Club organised an Oath taking eventin

the name of “Eradication of Leprosy” to create awareness among the students, 530 students

along with NSS programme officers were present.



ANTI - DRUG AWARENESS

NSS and YRC units in collaboration with I. C. P. F. Angelosi, Mr. Ron Paul & Team

from Kerala, organized an awareness program on “Anti-Drug Awareness” on 22/1/18.

NATIONAL VOTERS DAY

NSS, YRC, Lion‟s and Leo Club of AVC Celebrated “National Voters Day” on 25.01.18

by conducting various competitions like Drawing, Oratorical in Tamil & English and Group

dance. Chief guest Mr. Balasubramaniam, Assistant Commissioner of Municipal Office from

Ambattur, distributed prizes for the participants. Mr. Kannan, Assistant Executive engineer, Mr.

Kesavan, Sanitary Officer, Mrs. Parvathy, Deputy Tashildhar, A pledge was taken at the end of

the session.

On 26/09/2017, Our NSS Volunteers actively participated 'Inter Collegiate NSS Day'

program conducted by 'DRBCC Hindu College' and won the third prize in face painting and

collage.

NSS SPECIAL CAMP

NSS special camp was conducted at “Poppeli Raja Govt. Hr. Sec. School – Puzhal”,

Tiruvallur District on 15th

November 2017. Dr. G. Bhaskaran, NSS Co-Coordinator, University of

Madras inaugurated the camp at 3.00pm. Mr. Javeed, Headmaster of the school, Mr. Karrupukodi

Elumalai, P. T. A. President of School, Mr. Dilli Babu, Former Councilor, Principal Dr. (Mrs).

Kamala Balakrishnan, Dr. L. Parimala, Head, Department of Biochemistry & Chemistry, NSS

Programme Officers Dr. K. A. Sathy, Head, Dept. of Hindi & Mrs. D. Suja, Asst. Prof., Dept. of

Biochemistry were present over the event. The NSS Co-Coordinators motivated the students.



DENGUE ATTENTIVENESS PROGRAMME

“Dengue attentiveness programme” was conducted for school students. Mr.Ravi, Field

Officer & Mrs. Priya from Chennai corporation, explained about the causes and prevention of

dengue. At the end of the session “Nila Vembu Kudi Neer” was distributed to the students and

volunteers.



HIV AWARENESS PROGRAMME

HIV awareness programme was presented by Mrs.Punitha, I.C.T.C.Councilor at 10.00am to

12.00pm. She briefed about HIV & AIDS by showing video clipping.

PLACEMENT CELL

The Placement Season of 2017-18 Training helps the students to develop their

employability skills in order to face the campus interview confidently and also to meet out the

corporate expectations. We offer both internal and external kind of training for the final year

students. The cell provides Aptitude, Communication, Soft Skills, Technical and Programming

Training to the students as a value added programme.

COLLEGE TO CORPORATE

A PowerPoint Presentation was organised by the Placement officers, Mrs. V. Saritha,

Head of Microbiology and Mrs. Dora, Asst. Prof. of Business Administration, for the final year

ORIENTATION PROGRAMMES

Batch wise Orientation Programmes were conducted for all the final year students as on

19/07/17&25/07/17 in which, they had discussed briefly on various available opportunities in

their educational streams and the salary package etc.

On 02/08/17, the Placement Cell organized an Awareness Program on "The Importance

of Soft Skills". The speakers for the day were Mr. E. L. Praveen Kirubagaran, Trainer, Esquare

Training Consultant & Mrs. Shabana, Aptitude Trainer.

Mr. Balamurali from Super Success Academy gave an orientation on Personality Development

on 18.12.17 for all the final year student

SEMINAR

The cell organized a seminar on “How to Take up Bank Exam” from T. I. M. E Coaching

Centre by Mr. Subramaniya Rao on 29th August, 2017.

On 07/09/17, Synergy School of Business conducted an aptitude test for the final year

students which totally had 4 rounds. The first round was conducted in the college campus and the



remaining would be arranged in their workplace. The students of B. Com, B. Com A/F and BBA

took up the aptitude test.

On 15/12/2017, a seminar was conducted for final years of B. Com & B. Com (Accounting &

Finance) on "Easy Techniques for Clearing CLAT & RRB exams. The Resource Person was Mr.

Siva of Prime Educators.

WORKSHOP

On 16/09/2017, the cell organized a one day workshop on "Personality Development and

Interview Skills, in which, the trainers from ESquare training consultants taught the final years

students the skill development. Around 260 students were benefitted and the Evaluation was

taken from the students & the staffs.

A CSR activity of Adithya Birla capital Ltd was organised on 10th

October 2017 where,

an Internship Program was offered for the final year students at free of cost. Trainers from

Adithya Birla gave a detailed explanation regarding the Internship program

The Cell organized a “Career Counselling Program" for the final year students for two

days 20/10/17 & 21/10/17. It was conducted by I-STAR along with NSDC & MSDC. The team

briefed on interview preparation, placement assistance service and trained the students to

download free ENGLISH LEARNING APPLICATION. They conducted AMCAT test to check

the communication skills of the students. 216 students participated in the program.



CAMPUS DRIVE

The Cell on 17/01/18, organized a campus drive for the final year students of B. Com, B.

Sc (Computer Science) and BCA. Ananth Info Solutions Pvt. Ltd. conducted the interview, 200

students attended the first level.

A campus drive for B.Sc Computer Science & BCA students was conducted on 19/01/18

by KFin IT Solutions where, 56 students attended and 7 students got placed.

Intelenet Global Solution conducted a campus drive for all B. Com & BBA students on 29th

January 2018 at the College campus. 90 students underwent the Group discussion in which 33

students were shortlisted and given the offer letters.



Calibehr Human Capital Services Pvt. Ltd. conducted a campus drive for the students of

all Departments on 30th

January 2018.The Students underwent a direct face to face interview and

about 39 students were selected for Voice and Non-Voice process.

The Cell conducted a campus drive for Maths, English, UG & PG of Commerce

department students on 15th

Feb‟18 ,Arizaic Technology Solutions selected 33 students.

The Cell invited SEED (School of Empowerment Evolution and Development) to train

all the final year students on employability skills.

Access Health Care conducted an online test to the qualified and registered students on

Feb‟ 18 and they gave an orientation session in the campus later on took the selected

students to Ambattur to proceed further with the interview. Mr. Natarajan, Asst. Prof. of P. G. &

Research Dept., accompanied the team.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL

SEMINAR

Entrepreneurship Development Cell organized a Seminar on “How to Become a

Successful Entrepreneur?” on 16th

August 2017 to celebrate World Entrepreneur‟s Day. Chief

Guest, Mrs. Mahalakshmi Saravanan, Founder, Women Entrepreneurs & Kidspreneur. Students

turned to be young entrepreneurs by displaying various products such as Quilling Earrings, Mats,

Idly Podi, Silk Thread Chains, Handmade Products and Food Items. Staff and Students

enthusiastically purchased the home made products.

VIO-BAZAAR

The Cell organized a "VIO - Bazaar" as a one day Exhibition cum Sales on “Self Help

Group Products” in association with Tamilnadu State Rural Livelihood Mission, Thiruvallur



District, on 23/01/18. The program is an initiative to support "Puthu Vazhvu Thittam" and

encourage the livelihood of self-help group entrepreneurs.The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr.

Vincent, Project Officer, Magalir Thittam, and Mr. Chandrasekar - APO, Thiruvallur

Collectorate, in the presence of the College Principal, Vice Principal, and Heads of Various

Departments.20 Self-help Groups participated and displayed various products like handmade

bags, earrings, food items etc. Staff and Students visited the stalls and bought the products.

WORKSHOP

ED Cell organized a Workshop on Dec 16, 2017 on “Fabric Painting Techniques” in

collaboration with Fevicryl India Ltd. Mrs. R. Shyamala Devi, Head, Tutor-Fevicryl, India,

conducted the workshop by teaching the students the different painting styles like Liquid

Painting on Kurtis, Blouses, T-shirts, Leggings, Pillow Covers and Shawls. 38 students from

various departments participated in the workshop and received certificates.

WOMEN'S CELL

The Women‟s Development Cell met after it was first formed in 2009 to understand its

role and functions.

AWARENESS ON BREAST CANCER

The Women's Cell in coordination with Lion's Club, Chetpet organised an awareness

programme on "Breast Cancer" on 27/06/2017 at the college premises. Mrs. C. Shanthi, Social

Worker, Lion's Club was the Guest for the day. She deliberated on the causes and symptoms of

breast cancer with a demo session to all the women staff members as well as to the support staff

members.



TRAINING PROGRAMME

Women‟s Cell organised a special training programme for all the first year girl students

on “Values for Better Living” on 17th

July, 2017 at the College Campus. Ms. Rhondi and her

team from California based “Unveiling” helped our students to self-evaluate with the theme

“Know Thyself” and to realize that they all are important and unique in their own way.

COUNSELING CELL

Counselling Cell organized a counselling session for students on 13/7/17, 10/08/17,

21/09/17 and on 31/01/2018 in the College Premises in which Pastor Paul Dinakaran offered

counselling. The students who had personal, family and peer group problems came forward to

share with the counsellor.



The feedback from the students after each session revealed that they could find a better

solution to tackle all their problems and the academic development is more important than any.

Overall 44 students got benefitted.

PRAYER CELL

The first prayer cell programme was organised on 28th

June 2017 and the Guest for the

day was Pastor C. S. Edwin, Blessing Bedhastha Ministry, Puzhal.

On 09/08/17, Prayer Cell of our College organised a special prayer in which the Lord's

message was given by Pastor Shivakumar, El Shadai Christian Church, Mint.

On 13/09/17, the college prayer cell conducted a meeting with Pastor. Dicken, Podium

Sports Church (affiliated to Christian Sports Fellowship) as Chief Guest.

WORKSHOP

Citizen Consumer Club organised a workshop on “Consumer Awareness” on 12/07/2017,

The Chief Guest for the day was Mr. G. Santhanarajan, Director Concert, who was accompanied

by two Resource Persons Mr. S. S. Pandi Perumal & Mr. R. M. Subramanian. They trained &

educated the students on the various aspects like Food Safety; Water Safety etc., 108 students

participated and received certificates during the program.

A Workshop was organised by the club on 09/02/2018 on "Unfair Trade Practices". Mr.

T. Santhanarajan, Director, Concert was the Chief Guest. 80 Students participated in the event

and badges were issued to them.



ECO CLUB

The Eco Club Student Co-ordinator Mr. M. Naresh of III B. Sc. Biochemistry brought

forth the students to get into the field to embark the club‟s preliminary work of cleaning on

29/08/17 and they continued the work with ploughing and mowing on 05/09/17. By fertilizing

and manuring the soil they sowed the seeds of Brinjal, Lady‟s Finger and Bitter Guard on

08/09/17.

it was a proud moment to announce that our Alumnus Mr. Gowtham, represented our country

ACADEMICIANS’ MEET

The role of a teacher in society is both significant and valuable. It has far-reaching

influence on the society, he / she lives in, and no other personality can have an influence more

profound than that of a teacher says Shiben Raina, in lieu, we organized an Academicians‟ Meet

on 10th

February 2018. 60 Academicians from various schools situated in and around Chennai,

Thiruvallur and Ponneri district participated and the LEADERSHIP IMPACT AWARD was

given for 37 selected academicians who have dared to see beyond the horizon and saw all the

possibilities that lay there. The Chief Guest Rev. Fr Jegath Gasper, Public

Intellectual, deliberated on “Technology‟s Impact on today‟s Education” and stressed on the

need for Academicians to be updated and see over the horizon to build a sound society.

FOUR HOUSES

Throughout the academic year 2017-18, various cultural celebrations like Onam,

Christmas, Pongal, along with the cultural activities and sports activities were organised in such

a way that there was an healthy competition among the students of the four houses given below

where they volunteered themselves in all events evenly and came out with their extraordinary

talents and innovative ideas.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Annai Violet Arts and Science is a step towards

excellence. The IQAC of our college plans and monitors the activities and organises various

development programs to enhance and maintain quality sustenance. A continuous follow up has

been made on infrastructural resources of the college to assure adequate, appropriate and better

facilities to assure conducive and enabling environment for teaching and learning. Through all

these measures and activities, IQAC functions as one of the important components of the college

ensuring quality and continuous improvement in all the units/aspects of the college.
