• Influence of Japanese woodblock printing resurging. Called Japonisme, first influenced the European art world after 1853 when Japan opened trade with the western world.

• Honolulu Museum of Art —the jewel of the museum, its Japanese art collection of more than 10,000 Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints.

• Art Institute of Chicago

• Hiroshige’s Winter Scenes showcased. Some of Hiroshige’s prints devoted to snow scenes.

• Beyond the Great Wave: Hokusai’s Images of Mount Fuji, an exhibition showing several prints from the famous “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji” series, including three versions of “The Great Wave.”

• Green walls: improved air quality; aesthetic impressions; sound absorbing; regulate temperature and reduce carbon footprint; possibility of interior produce gardens.

COMMERCIAL DESIGN TRENDS

• Order and minimalism through modular interior pods.

• For those seeking minimalist design with clean lines, little fuss and detail, yet still want layers of sophisticated monochromatic coloring. Asian-influenced artwork and design details are key.

• NEONS ARE GONE AND BRIGHTS ARE MORE LIVABLE.

2015:WHERE COLOR IS EVOLVING• PASTELS PUSH FORWARD TO COMPLEX, NOT SWEET SHADES AND ARE

ACCENTS TO NEUTRAL TONES. COLORS RANGE FROM MINT AND SPRING GREEN CARRY-OVERS FROM 2014 TO SKY, PETAL, BLUSH, BUTTER AND VIOLET.

• REDS IN DARK AND ROUGE TONES GATHERING MOMENTUM FROM CLASSIC TRUE REDS, WINE, AND OXBLOOD.

2015:WHERE COLOR IS EVOLVING• PINK MOVES TO WARM CORAL AND HOT PINK. THE SOFT PINKS AND CORAL

PINKS ARE NEW NEUTRALS THAT WORK WITH EVERYTHING. MAISON & OBJET TRADE FAIR SHOWCASED PINK EVERYWHERE. THE HOT PINK IS A BLUER FUCHSIA THAT IS BRIGHT AND BOLD.

2015:WHERE COLOR IS EVOLVING• ORANGES ARE LESS TRENDY AND TURN WARM AND DEEP WITH RUST AND

COPPER LEADING.

• YELLOW IS HIGHLIGHTED IN AMBER, OCHRE, GOLD METALLIC OR MUSTARD.

• GREENS PUSH FORWARD INTO BOTTLE GREEN, DARK OLIVE, MOSS, AND LICHEN AS MINT, MALACHITE AND EMERALD LESSEN. GREENS ARE MORE COMPLEX AND IN COOL MID-TONES AS WELL AS DEEP HUNTER GREEN, CELADON, APPLE AND TONED-DOWN CHARTREUSE.

2015:WHERE COLOR IS EVOLVING• BLUES ARE EVERYWHERE FROM INK TO PERIWINKLE, TURQUOISE TO PEACOCK.

BLUE HIGHLIGHTS ARE MURKY, MINERAL, DUSKY AND OCEAN BLUES. MONOCHROMATIC USE IS A KEY FEATURE.

• PURPLES ARE INTENSE AND OPULENT WITH RED UNDERTONES.
