The Liffey Descent has become established as an iconic canoe marathon race, combining the challenging course with a unique atmosphere of fun and friendship. Starting in the heart of the countryside in the beautiful surroundings of The K Club Co. Kildare, the competitors will experience both rural and suburban surroundings as they paddle downriver. The race course is 32 kms long, consisting of 10 weirs and 1 portage and finishes at the Garda Boat Club in Islandbridge, Co. Dublin. To the excitement there may be more portages than just Leixlip this year to add! There is an after party organised in the Garda Boat club to finish off the race in style with an amazing line up of live music with ‘The Camembert Quartet’ headlining. Many a tale will be told at the party of the wonderful experiences had during the race with well-deserved boasting about making it to the finishing line with or without a swim. We are delighted to have the event listed as part of the International Canoe Federation Canoe Marathon World Series this year. You will see from the start list included the high level of overseas participation in the Liffey Descent this year and we are very grateful for all our International participation. Transcript of 59th International Liffey Descent being part of the ICF World ...

While we all have enjoyed the beautiful summer this year, the prolonged dry spell provides a different challenge to organisers and competitors. We have worked hard to create the best possible event given the weather conditions.

Finally, the event could not happen without the valuable support of our sponsors. Thank you Dublin City Council, Failte Ireland, Kildare County Council and South Dublin County Council for you generous support.

Yours in Paddling,

Paul Donnelly President Canoeing Ireland
