The plan commits to 45 actions, including transitioning to anew resource allocation model for students with disability. Thisaction will complete the final recommendation ofthe Queensland Disability Review.

The department has commenced a 2-year transition to a newstudents with disability – reasonable adjustments resourcing(RAR) model. The RAR model will support all students withdisability based on the adjustments they need to access andparticipate in education. In the most recent state budget, theQueensland Government announced $80.6 million to supporttransition to the new model. More information about thetransition to the new RAR is outlined below and inthe information for students and families fact sheet (PDF,761KB).

Reasonable adjustments resourcing (RAR) allocationReasonable adjustments resourcing (RAR) allocation

Each state school receives a core allocation of resources andfunding to support the learning needs of all students. In additionto the core allocation, RAR allocates extra teachers and teacheraides to schools where adjustments are needed for studentswith disability. The resources are allocated to schools, notindividual students.

Under RAR, the resource allocation for each school is based onthe level of supports students with disability need to access andparticipate in education.

Our teachers have been working with our student support staffto review and record adjustments for identified students. Theseare the adjustments that teachers make in class to supportall students to engage in their educational program. Thisinformation will also be used by the department of education toallocate resources to our school.

Year 3 ExcursionYear 3 Excursion

Last week, our Year 3 students werehighly engaged in their ‘Forest Life’excursion at Toohey ForestEnvironmental Education Centre. Theywere met by ‘Des. T. Ruction,’ the SeniorProject Manager with the Tumble TreeCompany. At the start of the day, he had

plans to demolish the forest and build a carpark. On hearing thisinformation, the students worked hard to gather evidence offorest life in order to provide strong scientific evidence as to whythe construction should not go ahead.

I am pleased to announce the students were successful inputting a stop to Des. T. Ruction’s plans. Here is an extractfrom the letter he wrote to Mrs O’Keeffe.

We are proud of the way our Year 3 students representedTingalpa State School. A big thank you to Miss Aiono, MsLeonard, Mrs Haines, Miss Maree and Miss Natalie forattending the excursion.

On Wednesday 27 July, our Year 5 and 6 students participatedin a 30-minute health and wellbeing talk with Kezie Apps,Keeley Davis and Jaydn Su’a, all current NRLW and NRLplayers at the St George Dragons. The students loved listeningto the three athletes talk about making healthy choices, including the importance of physical activity and choosing goodfood. They also spoke about how to be resilient and deal withemotions such as anger.

The students have their own copy of the ‘The Best You Can Be’health and wellbeing resource, funded by Jaydn Su’a himself. He is a past student of Tingalpa State School and wantedto give back to our school community. We send our biggestthanks to Jaydn, Kezie and Keeley for their time on Wednesday, and for being positive role models for our students.
