Oak Cliff Assembly

The City of Reading, Pennsylvania, hasreceived a Divine visitation of blessingand power that has never been equalled,so say many of the ministers of this community and vicinity. Approximately 2700people answered a strictly salvation altarcall, and multiplied hundreds were healedof diseases and afflictions of every kind.Night after night the great tent seatingover two thousand was crowded, with between five hundred and two thousandstanding about it during each service.

The meeting began rather inauspiciouslyand with no fanfare. Circumstances were

such that it had been impossible to gobefore hand and properly organize thecampaign. Only two or three churchesat the start were backing it. BrotherGeorge Folk, chairman of the local committee, had succeeded in securing a largetent 210 feet long, and he with Rev. HenryStoppe of Jamaica had put forth mucheffort in getting the tent erected. Thecampaign, starting on a Sunday, beganwith a rather small attendance. Nevertheless, with miracles occurring from thefirst night, the crowds began to come, andsoon more were there than could be ac

commodated. Hundreds of people andsometimes thousands stood for hours aboutthe tent. Another thing that might bementioned was that this was one of thefirst, if not the first, of the great healingcampaigns on a large scale held in theEast. Yet it was not long before peoplebegan coming regularly from distancesof over a hundred miles. All denominations came and were blessed, and manywere healed.

Meridian, Miss., VisitedWith Greatest Revival

In Its HistoryGayle Jackson RevivalWitnesses Over 2,000

Come To ChristBy C. S. WALKER

Pastor, First Assembly of GodAs one of the co-operating pastors in

the great Salvation-Divine Healing revivalconducted by Rev. Gayle Jackson inMeridian, Mississippi, I would like to express my opinion of its greatness by mentioning only a few of my observations.

First, one of the accomplishments ofgreat significance is the unified fellowshipresulting of all the ministers of the FullGospel churches of the city; all of whOlIIldismissed their regular services in orderthiat they and their members might attend every service of this great revival. There is now a fellowship amon?; theseministers which was here-to-fore unknown.

I witnessed over two thousand make(Continued on Page 2)

their way to the prayer tents under suchmighty conviction of sin, until many ofthem were gloriously saved even beforethey knelt to pI1ay, as the conviction wasaccomplished :by Faith, resulting ,frotmthe simple but pungent Gospel messagesof the evangelist.

There is no way to dete=ine the number of miracles and healings that occurred, but conservative estimate places thenumber in the thousands, who were de

livered from diseases of almost every description, including cancers, goiters, h.eartdisease @d sugar diabetes. Blind eyeswere opened, the deaf heard, the dumbspoke, crossed eyes were made straight,tJhe lame walked and many other miracleswere wrought.

One of the greatest evidences of thehunger for God which possessed the greatthrongs, who attended night after night, was that the heavy downpour of rainwhich fell almost every night did not stopthem. I witnessed scores wade t!hroughwater over their shoe tops (that had rununder the tent and stood in some placesas much as six inches deep) making theirway to the front of t!he tent to find Christas their Saviour.

I think all of the Full Gospel churchesof the city have already witnessed clearevidence of a mighty Spiritual awakening,tJhat we- hope will continue and grow inintensity until Jesus comes.

By HARVEY McALLISTER

During 1946, I was in Jamaica for tenweeks, during which period I witnessedupwards of 1.500 unsave'd persons kneeling at altars and in prayer rooms and taking Christ as Saviour. In many of themeetings we found it necessary to formhealing lines four abreast.

While in the West Indies I had the inward conviction that the Lord would haveme to give a definite ministry to MexicoOn returning home, I found a letter onmy desk from the pastor of the largestchurch in Mexico City which invited meto come to that city for a ministry inwhich healing would be the outstandingfeature.

We had two wonderful weeks in Mexico City, with nightly congregations ofaround 1500 people. SeldOlJll a night meeting but at least fifty came for salvationand sometimes as many as a hundred andfifty. Each night there would be hundredsin the healing line.

After ministering in a number of othercities in Mexico, I took a pl:ane for British Honduras to fill an engagement asspeaker at the Third Annual Conventionof the Assemblies of God in British Honduras. Night meetings were conducted ina large hall seating about 600, with oftenmany standing. Then for the first time,as far as is known. on British Hondurassoil, in the early 5 :30 A. M. meetings, people received the Baptism of the HolyGhost-14 of them.

The Voice of Healing MagazineNow Official Organ of Many ofThe Great Healing Campaigns

By THE EDITOR

Almost daily we receive requests fromworthy evangelists and workers for spacein THE VOICE OF HEALING. It is ourdesire to as fully and fairly represent thefield as is possible. In the providence ofGod some of these campaigns" because oftheir scope, draw thousands of people notonly from the locale of the meeting butfrom hundreds of miles in every direction. From these se,rvices others draw inspira.tion to go forth and labor in a ministryof deliverance in the·ir respective fields.Naturally THE VOICE OF HEALINGmust report more fully those meetingswhich are setting the pattern of this last·day revival. We are the more disposed topublicize ,those who do not have an inordi·nate ambition to magnify themselves, butwish to glorify Christ, and who are seeking to encourage other ministers in thisministry of deliverance. Again, we areespecially inte, rested in those who are notseeking to amass money for personal comfort, but will consider themselves stewards before God to assist in the promulgation of this message of deliverance to theuntouched mission fields.

Although editor of THE VOICE OFHEALING, we are hopeful that we havenot used our position to unproportionatelypublicize meetings in which we have beenassociated. We are not interested alone inwhat God is doing for us, but rather inwhat God is doing over the entire field, without respect to church walls or denominational barriers. We are thankful, however, for the great meetings in whichwe have been associated. Some idea of thescope of the recent Osborn-Lindsay earn·paign at Reading may be understood fromthe fact that including over 1300 subscrip.tions received for THE VOICE OF HEAL.lNG, some 26,000 copies of the magazinemaY' be said to be used as a result of thisone campaign.

"LITTLE DAVID" campaign in Royal Albert Hall, London. These meetings, with the assistance of Rev.Hoekstra and Raymond T. Richey, are being organized on a union basis, and whole cities are being stirred bythem.

Raymond G. HoekstraAnd Little David inEngland and Europe

Fire has again fallen on London. Notthe fire bombs of enemy planes, but theFire from Heaven which God has promised to believers.

Many hundreds have been converted, and other hundreds received the prayer offaith that heals the sick!

Newspapers throughout Britain andLondon published reports, with names andaddresses of persons who testified to mir·acles of healing.

On Sunday, August 14th, the Royal Albert Hall, in London, was filled, as seventhousand persons listened intently to thetestimony of Little David. Simply andearnestly he testified that when he wasnine years of age his spirit was takenup for five hours into heaven. "Jesus said,'David, if you will preach what I command you to preach, thousands will beconverted, and many miraculously healed. The blind will see. The deaf will hear. The lame will walk.' That promise hasnever failed."

From London Rev. Hoekstra and Little

David went by plane to Amsterdam, Holland; Brussels, Belgium, and then on toParis. In Paris, God sent another revival.

The Palace de la Mutualite was filledto overflowing. In a single s'elfVice theyprayed for one thousand persons. Manymiracles of healing were witnessed. The

common people of Paris had great faith.Under the able leadership of Pastor

Fauvell, the work in France is forgingforward.

On September 17th, Little David andRev. Hoekstra will open a major revivalcampaign in the Mosque Auditorium,Richmond, Virginia. This will be theirfirst revival back in the United States.

Latest Word FromDale Hanson Party

We have just concluded a successful revival in our big te:nt at Ada, Oklahoma, where we continued four weeks under thesponsorship of Presbyter Floyd L. Poag,of the Assemblies of God. We appreciatedthe fine cooperation of the churches andpastors who closed thei'r services duringthe entire revival.

There were many people who testifiedof definite healings during the campaign,as well as several miracle healings. Oneman who had a cancer on his face foreight years, and suffered continually withpain and discomfort, was completelyhealed in several days. A woman witJh abroken ankle of many months standingwas instantly delivered. She hadn't beenable to even wiggle her toes, but she immediately received her healing, and walked down the aisle without her crutches.People were even healed while outside thetent in their cars as God's power sweptthrough the audience.

There were numbers saved at the altar

and also filled with the Holy Ghost, andthe people of Ada and surrounding communities have been stirred to contend forthe faith which was once delivered untotJhe saints.

Many came from out of state who readthe reports in THE VOICE OF HEAL·ING magazine. It seems your magazinemust reach into every city and state, aseven in Canada -and Newfoundland thepeople told us of the benefits which theyare receiving from reading it.

This was our first revival in our big2,OOO-seat tent, which we obtained afterour revivals in Canada. I have an excellentrevival group with me in the big tent. However, BaJrbara, my wife, will soon jointhe party again. Barbara is still in the 51.

Michael's Hospital in Texarkana, Arkansas, where she has been for ten weeks, after breaking her back in several placesand nine ribs in the accident. We surelyappreciate the earnest prayers of .the thousands who have contended for herhealing.

Notice to Those Who Attend'Healing Campaigns From

A DistanceIn general, those coming from a dIstance

to the healing campaigns should come prepared to stay several days, or until theirturn to be prayed for. This time is notlost, for the opportunity to hear the Wordof God and to receive the great inspiration of the meetings, is vitally importantin the receiving of healing.

Page 4

(The story of Mrs. M. B. W oodwO'rthEtter is inspiring and timely for our present hour. God took His handmaiden

through a time of testing and sorrow whileshe was prepared for the great work shewas to do. In few ministries has the powerof the Spirit been more obviously manifested. Soon after she was called topreach, the Lord led her into a mightyhealing ministry, and her meetings arestill remembered by those old enough torecall the first two decades of this century. Her book, "MARVELS AND MIRACLES," enjoyed a wide circulation, butso far as we know at the present time, itis no longer published, and is not obtainable at any bookstore.)

IWAS BORN in New Lisbon, Ohio, July1, 1844. My mother and father joinedthe Disciple Church one year before myfather's death, whioh occurred in July,1855. The death of my father was thefirst great sorrow of my life. He had goneto harvest in usual health. I will neverforget when he was brought home, coldin death. Some neighbor children and Iwere out watching a terrible storm raging, when we saw two strangers approaching the house. They came to bring thesad intelligence of what had happened. It was a terrible blow to our young heartsto see our father carried into the housecold and stiff in death. Father died of sunstroke; he was sick only a few hours. anddied praying for the whole family.

Conversion

At the age of thirteen I attended a meeting of the Disciple Church. When I heardthe story of the Cross my heart was filledwith the love of Jesus, but I did not getconverted then. The next day, as they tookme down to the creek to baptize me, therewas a great crowd around. It scared mea little; so I asked the Lord to save mefully, trusting myself into His hands. While going through the water, a lightcame over me, and I was converted.

Soon after I was converted, I heard thevoice of Jesus calling me to go out intothe highways and hedges and gabher inlost sheep. I had never heard of womenworking in public except as missionaries;so I could see no opening. A few yearsafter this I married Mr. Woodworth.

Early Sorrows and TrialsA number of years passed when the

angel of death came again to our homeand took away our baby, Freddie, andat the same time I lay for weeks betweenlife and death. In all this I could see theHand of the loving Father calling me toleave all and follow Him. About this time.our little daughter, Georgie, was con:verted. She was about seven years old, andwas a great comfort to me. Many happytimes 'we enjoyed talking together of thebeautiful home over the river, where herbrother had gone. I did not bhink shewould leave me so soon to join their ranksand raise her voice with theirs in singingsalvation to our God. She was taken sickwith scrofula, and lingered about eight

months. For weeks before she died, herface was all lighted up with the glory ofGod. She was willing to go and be withJesus, but it seemed hard for her to leaveme. She said, "Mama, I cannot die unlessyou promise to meet me in heaven." I said,"Georgie, by the Grace of God I will meetyou in heaven." She said, "Now I amready; I know you will come, mama; Ishall always be looking for you."

Three weeks befo,re her death, littleGertie was born. She was the picture ofGeorgie and seemed to have her sweet disposition. I thought as she grew older shewould take her place; but the preciousbud was not permitted to bloom in this .world of sin. At the age of four months, the angels bore her away where theflowers never fade nor die, there to joinher sister and brothers. I could say withDavid, they cannot come back to me,but I will go to them.

Visions o,f HeavenFrom the time of these sad occurrences

whioh have just been narrated, my healthwas very poor, and many times I wasbroug-ht near the brink of the grave.Everyone who saw me thought I was going to die. But the work of the Lordwas calling me, and when I seemed to behovering between life and death, I wouldhave glorious visions.

At one time, I was praying for the salvation of sinners, and the Saviour appearedon the Cross by me, and talked with me;I laid my hand on His mangled body, andlooked up in His smiling face. Anothertime, as I was meditating upon the loveof God in giving His only Son to die forsinners, and of the beautiful home He waspreparing for those that love Him, Iseemed to float away, and was set downin the Beautiful City. Oh, the glorioussight that met my view, can never be expressed -by mortal tongue! Heaven islocated. It is a real city. Its inhabitantsare real and not imagi~ary. If motherscould see their children as I saw them,in all their shining glory, they would neverweep for them, but would leave all andfollow Jesus. They would let nothing keepthem from meeting their children inheaven. I can never think of children asbeing in the grave. Oh, no! The lovedfo·rm that we laid away in the cold graveis nothing but the casket that containedthe jewel whioh is now shining in theSaviour's Crown.

All these years God had been preparing me-for I was not willing. I felt likea worm in His sight. It seemed impossible for me.to undertake the work of salvation of souls; but the time h/ld cometo promise or die. I promised God that ifHe would restore my health, and prepareme, and show me the work, I would try todo it; I began to get better immediately.

The Perishing of MultitudesWe moved to a Friends settlement. They

had glorious meetings. God seemed to sayto me, "I brought you here to go to work."Now the struggle commenced. I was timidand bound with chains in a man·fearing

spmt. When I arose to testify I trembledlike a leaf, and I began to make excuses-"0, God, send someone else." Then theLord in a vision caused me to see the bottomless pit, open in all its horro-rs andwoe. There was weeping and wailing andgnashing of teeth. It was surrounded by agreat multitude of people who seemed unconscious of their danger, and without amoment's warning they would tumble intothis awful place. I was above the peopleon a narrow plank-walk, which wound uptoward heaven; and I was exhorting andpleading with the people to come uponthat plank and escape that awful place.Several started. There was a beautifulbright light above me, and I was encour·aging them to follow the light and theywould go straight to heaven. The Lordwas showing in many ways that I mustgo and perform the work He had for meto do.

I still delayed, although several ministers whom I had never seen before, toldme at different times that God was call·ing me to the ministry, and that I would

have to go. Then my little Willie tooksick, and in a few days he was in heaven. He died very happy, but this sad bereavement nearly took my life. When alone, Imissed my darling so much that I wept

. as though my heart would break. Lizzie, our oldest child, aged sixteen, was all wehad left of six sweet children.

In all these trials God was preparingme and opening the way for the great battle against the enemy of souls: and nowthe great desire of my heart was to workfor Jesus. The glory of the Lord cameupon me like a cloud, and I seemed to becarried away hundreds of miles and setdown in a field of wheat, where thesheaves were falling all around me. I wasfilled with zeal and power and felt as ifI could stand before the whole world andplead with dying sinners. Then Satanwould come and I would think of myweakness and say, "No, of course I can·not do it." Again I would be in darknessand despair.

Baptism of the Holy Ghost

Then I asked God to give me the powerHe gave the Galilaean fishermen-toanoint me for service. I came like a childask~ng for bread. I looked for it; God didnot disappoint me. The power of the HolyGhost came down as a bright cloud. It wasbrighter than rhe sun. I was covered andwrapped up in it. My body was as lightas the air. It seemed that heaven camedown. I was baptized with the Holy Ghost, and fire, and power, which has never leftme. It is through the Lord Jesus Christ, and by this power that I have stood beforehundreds of thousands of men and women, proclaiming the unsearchable riches ofChrist.

God Used Women

As I continued to read my Bible I sawthat in all ages of the world, the Lordraised up of His own choosing, men, women and children~Miriam, Deborah,Hannah, Anna, Phoebe, t:he Marys andthe sisters who were coworkers with Paulin the Gospel. The more I investigated, themore I found to condemn me. By theprophet Joel we learn rhat one specialfeature of the Gospel Dispensation shallbe "Your sons and your daughters shallprophesy, your old men shall dreamdreams, your young men shall see visions;and also upon the servants and upon thehandmaidens in those days will I pour outmy spirit." It seems by the Prophet Joelthat the last days were to be particularlyconspicuous for this kind of prophesying.

The First Meeting

The first meeting that I undertook to

hold was in a little town where we hadlived some years before, right among myhusband's people. It was a cross for meto talk to those people; but when I beganto talk upon the subject "Set thy house inorder, for thou shalt die and not live,"the man-fearing spirit left me, and vhewords came to me faster than I could givethem utterance. We continued the meeting for a few days and people were converted all through the neighborhood. Thepower came on me as it did when Ire·ceived the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Letme say for the encouragement of thosewho are starting in the work of the Lord,God has promised to be with us always, even to the end. It is "not by might ...but by My Spirit, saith the Lord." Godwill give us the victory every time, butwe must claim the victory by faith, beforethe walls fall. (Josh. 6:20.)

Gods' Po,wer Manifested in Blessingand Judgment

After many invitations, we went toHartford City about the first of January,1885, to the Methodist Church. The churchwas cold and formal and I knew it wouldtake a wonderful display of God's powerto convince the people: so I prayed forGod to display His power that the sinner might know that God lives. The Lordanswered our prayers in a remarkablemanner. People fell under the power ofGod. Many wept; some shouted and' diversoperations of tihe Spirit were seen. Men,women and children were struck down intheir homes, in their places of business, and lay as dead. They had wonderfulvisions, and arose converted, giving gloryto God. The fear of God fell upon the city.

One man was mocking a woman, ofwhose .body God had taken control. Shewas preaching with gestures. When in themocking attitude God struck him dumb.He became rigid and remained with hishands up, and his mouth drawn in a mock.ing way for five hours-a gazing-stock forall the house. The fear of God fell on all. They saw it was a fearful thing to mockGod or make fun of His work. The Cincinnati Enquirer sent a reporter to write upthe meetings and report daily. Every daynewsboys could be heard crying out, "Allabout tihe Woodworth Revival."

Ministry of HealingThe Lord showed me while in Columbia

City, Indiana, in the spring of 1885, thatI had the gifts of healing and of layingon hands for the recovery of the sick. Atfirst I could not understand that it wasthe Spirit of God that was leading me. Forthree nights when I was almost dead forrest, I lay awake. I thought rhat if Ishould preach divine healing I wouldneglect the salvation of souls. The Lo:rdshowed me that He would take care ofthe work. When I made the promise Iwould pray for the sick if He would sendthem in, I had perfect rest of mind andsoul. From this time on God began to leadme to teach divine healing and pray forthe sick. In the years that have intervened

since, God has healed thousands of allmanner of diseases and thousands havebeen brought to Christ by seeing the sickhealed.

The Spirit of Prophecy-SanFrancisco Earthquake

While holding meetings in California, the Lord showed me that a great destruc·tion and an earthquake was coming. Soonafter, the papers were ablaze with picturesof the awful earthquake and holocaust inSan Francisco, and the surroundingcountry. ·1 had told them God always sendsmercy, and that they wouLdbe visited nextwith destruction and judgment. The earthquake soon followed and the fear of Godcarne on those who remembered theprophecy. Both prophecies were fulfilledin a week, and I lived to walk over therums.

Vision of the Coming of ChristOn March 24, 1904, when I fell under

the operation of the power of God, whilepraying for the healing of the last one atthe altar, I saw the Saviour on the Cross, and sinners coming 110 Him. I saw stepsleading across the pearly gates of heaven. All who plunged into the fountain wereat once pl'aced upon the steps. Each onecarried a light that grew brighter as theywent higher. There was not a spot or adefilement on their robes. Each one hada ,body-guard of angels of God escortingthem on the upward journey. At the topof the steps were pearly gates, where theheavenly hosts waited to welcome the Pilgrims of earth.

I also saw the world in great darkness, and that the saints were few. "Many arecalled but few are chosen." Many wereunder conviction, but trusted to water baptism, to confirmation, to church membership; but unless they are carrying the lightof God they are worse than an opensinner.

I saw preparation in .heaven and earthfor the Soon Coming 0.£ Christ. Heavenseemed to be in a commotion. The Lordwas marshaling His hosts; getting thehorses and chariots ready. The armies ofheaven were moving, the gates were open.An angel came out of the gates blowinga great trumpet, the Saviour taking thelead, with all the glory of heaven, shout·ing to the saints in a loud V'Oice, thatawakened the dead.

The Lord showed me He was judgingHis saints, separating the wheat from thetares; the household of faith was gettingits portion of meat in this, God's due season. The angel was sealing the last onesof the mem1bers of the Bride, with theseal of the living God. They were a littleflock and the last one would soon besealed, then the Lord would come in acloud of glory to take His bride to theMarriage Feast, or Supper.

God help all who read this vision totake this warning and repent, for theJudgment of God is at hand.

Spirit then came upon me, and I beganto sing in the Spirit and dance and leapfor joy. I felt as though I were going tobe translated. The children came runningin, and they weren't frightened, but witJhtears streaming down their faces they began to praise God. The Lord witnessed tomy little son, David, to help me get myold high extended, boot off. When it cameoff, the lump seemed to split and go outeach foot after which David cried out,"Mama, you're walking like a human being!" This truly thrilled my soul as Godhad witnessed first to him. Then a voicespoke, "I'm healing your leg." I said,"Never let me doubt it, Lord." I ran tothe field dancing, to tell my husband andbrother-in-law, and the next day I had togo to the church in /house slippers as allmy shoes were extended ones. I could nolonger wear them.

A doctor's report, August 2, and anX-ray shows my hips straight across fromone another instead of at an angle. Myblood and health are such as I never hadin all my life before. I walk flat on myfeet with shoulders level, good postureand perfect spine. Before without my extension, my knee would go out of place.I can do many things I could never dobefore. I can now touch the floor with

Test Case of Healing of Cripple WithLeg Three Inches Short

(In our effort to encourage faith and tostop the mouth of unbelief, THE VOICEOF HEALING is carrying test cases ofmiracles of healing, which are so outstanding of their kind, that no further argument can be made by those who claim thedays of miracles have ceased. To show theuniversality of this great mOVe of God,we choose various cases from the different men who possess the sign-gift ministry. The testimony below is that of Mrs.Harold Oman, 0f Manhattan, Montana, who was healed under the ministry ofRev. John F. Hauck. She was born a cripple, and at the time just before her healing on April 1, her left leg was at leastthree inches shorter than the right.)

Dear Brother Lindsay:It is with great joy and victory of heart

that I write you my testimony. I am 31years old, and was born a cripple. Forthe last 23 years I have had to wear atwo-inch extended heel, and a one-inch extended sole, on my left foot because of tJheextreme difference in the lengl:h of mylegs. When tired or carrying a mediumload, my left side would droop some threeor four inches. At times I wondered howlong I could keep on my feet.

My childhood was filled with memoriesof suffering. Being born a cripple, myparents spared nothing to get me well.Doctors differed in l:he cause of the condition. Surgery was performed in an attempt to discover what was wrong. Extreme exercises were ordered, but I onlygrew wotse. The outcome was that the twobones pulverized by rubbing together. Asurgical operation removed the fragmentsand much of the bone because of the worncondlition. Further surgery helped me alittle, but left my leg in a very stiffenedcondition. Bes.ide all this, there was painand deep-seated trouble in my spine andbrain.

At this time I was afraid to go to adoctor further, and not even telling mymother, I called Evangelist John Hauck, who prayed for me. I had confidence andfaith tJhat God had heard his prayer.

On April 1, 1949, when I awakenedfTom sleep, I had a stiff neck, and a little to the right of the back of my neck,a lump the size of an egg, deep inside. On the afternoon of the second, both legsaC'hed and hurt, and also my entire spine, head and arms. I went to the bedroom ingreat suffering. I called my children in,thinking I was being paralyzed. My littleboy, six years of age, came in and prayedfor his mama and then ran out to play.

I tried to get up in the Name of theLord. With great difficulty I picked upmy Bible, went into the kitchen, crumpledinto a chair, opened tihe Bible, readingwith great difficulty, "For me to live isChrist and to die is gain." The Holy

(Continued from Page 1)Evangelist Osborn's distinctive ability

to preach faith was one of the highlightsof the campaign. Few ministers have everpossessed the ability to give such a clearcut presentation of this subject. This withthe demonstration of the healing of thedeaf, dumb, blind and others, as BrotherOsborn ministered each night, establishedfaith in God to such a degree that the mostamazing deliverances took place. SisterOsborn also assisted her husband veryably in the prayer line. On occasions whenshe prayed for the sick there were markeddeliverances, especially with those thatwere cross-eyed. It appears that the immediate deliverance of cross-eyed persons hasa most remarkable effect upon the audience.

An essential part of the campaign werethe afternoon preparatory meetings, inwhich as many as a thousand personswould be sometimes present on week days. These were conducted by Gordon Lindsay, editor of The Voice of Healing. The teachings of repentance, faith and right living,as preparation for healing was a featureof these afternoon meetings. BrotherLindsay also prayed for certain of thesick in the afternoon, with outstandingmiracles occurring.

On the last Sunday service, EvangelistOsborn introduced a novel and remarkable feature of the campaign. God hadshown our brother a great truth of thisministry-that all God's ministers. shouldhave some share in it. Nine prayer lineswere formed and handled by the localcooperating ministers. To the astonishment and joy of these men, they foundthat as a result of the campaign, faith hadbeen inspired in their heart to believe forthe same things that they had been witness-

My Life Story and Call To The Healing MinistryREv. T. L. OSBORN

PART IIWith the vision still fresh before me, and

the burden of the passing of many of thegreat men of faith heavy upon my heart, Isought carefully the Lord to know His perfect plan for my life.

In the month of September, 1947, we accepted again the pastorate of the Montaville Tabernacle in Portland, Oregon, andsettled down for what we expected to be along period of ministry in the lovely Northwestern "City of Roses," but God had thistoo, planned only as a short step in Hisplan for our lives.

The Branham MeetingRev. William Branham came to Portland

and conducted a healing campaign in thelarge Civic Auditorium. I heard about thegreat miracles of healing and of the wonderful ministry God had given to dearBrother Branham. I went, and sat in thebalcony. I can never express the emotionsof my heart in response to the operation ofthe Gifts of Healing ministered to BrotherBranham by the angel he tells about.

For three or four years I had been greatly stirred about the traditional methods Ihad been using in regard to the sick anddemon-possessed. I continually said thatwe were on the "wrong track" in our manner of dealing with the suffering people.I always had believed that it could andshould be done the Bible way. We wouldcall the whole church to pray for one person, hoping that some one might be able topray the prayer of faith on the sick's behalf. I knew this was not the Bible way.As I watched Brother Branham minister tothe sick, I was especially captivated by thedeliverance of a little deaf-mute girl overwhom he prayed thus: "Thou deaf and

dumb spirit, I adjure thee in Jesus' name, leave the child," and when he snapped hisfingers, the girl heard and spoke perfectly. When I witnessed this, there seemed to bea thousand voices speaking to me at once, all in one accord saying over and over,"You can do that." "That's the Bible way-Peter and Paul did it that way, and SOCAN YOU." "START NOW-You can dothat-that's what God wants you to do!"

I went home in a new world. I had witnessed the BIBLE IN ACTION. It wasthe thing I had always longed for. At lastI had seen God do what He promised todo. My entire life was changed that verynight.

Days of Prayer and Fasting

Many days of fasting and prayer followed that night. My wife and I went beforeGod determined to be channels throughwhich God might work His mighty works ofdeliverance today. We immediately sentnear and far, telling the people to bringtheir sick, diseased, crippled, blind, deafand dumb. We began to preach deliverance for all, to pray for the sick, andneedless to say, God began immediately towork miracles, because we had dared totake Him at His Word. We began to ACTON THE WORD. If God said it, then ithad to be. If God promised to do it, thenHe MUST BACK IT UP.

A few weeks of happy results followed, but still my heart was not satisfied. I notified the church that I would see no one norspeak to anyone personally or by phoneuntil I let them know. Mrs. Osborn assumed the pastoral responsibilities and Iwent into an upstairs room alone, to remain until God spoke to me. I remainedthere only two days and nights and at the

middle of the third day the spirit spoke tome very clearly and distinctly, and at lastGod answered my question concerning thedeath of so many heroes of faith, and theawful need that still existed throughout theworld for this great ministry of deliverance.

The Holy Spirit SpeaksThe Spirit spoke thus: "My son, as I was

with Price, Wigglesworth and others, sowill I be with thee. They are dead butnow it is time for YOU to arise, to go anddo likewise. YOU cast out devils; YOUheal the sick; YOU raise the dead; YOUcleanse the lepers. Behold I give unto YOUpower over all the power of the enemy. Benot afraid. Be strong. Be of good courage. I AM WITH THEE AS I WAS WITHTHEM. No evil power shall be able tostand before ruBE all the days of THYlife as you get the people to believe myWord. I used those men in their day, butthis is YOUR day. Now I desire to useTHEE."

The challenge of this commission givendirectly from the Lord caused me totremble exceedingly, but I knew God meantevery word He had spoken.

More days and weeks of fasting andpl'ayer followed this tremendous commission, and more healing and miracles werethe result. The will of God was determinedvery definitely in the matter of resigningthe church, and taking this "Gospel of theKingdom" to the ends of the earth for awitness among all nations and peoples. Thus we began, and that was the earlyspring of 1948.

Since that time we have had the unspeakable pleasure of seeing thousands of peoplehealed of all manner of incurable diseases

THE VOICE OF HEALING

THE POWER OF HEALINGCondensed from" Atomic Power With God"

By FRANKLIN HALL

Page 11

After reading the constant number ofletters and appeals from the sick jor help,we have felt a definite need for a bookon prayer and fasting, which wonld be anespecial help to those who do not liveclose enough to the large cities to attendthe healing campaigns. We believe thatthere is a great truth in prayer and fasting, since Jesus, when speaking of thedevil in the lunatic child whom the disciples could not heal, declared, "this kindcometh not out but by prayer and jasting."We do realize that fasting to be seen ofmen, or for self-aggrandizement is futileand profitless. But fasting with prayer hasa place, as the Scriptures plainly teach. We know of no writer whom God has sosignally used to bring out Scriptural truthon fasting, as Evangelist Franklin Hall.Weare therefore offering his book,A TOM I CPO W E R WIT H GODTHROUGH PRAYER AND FASTING, asour book-of-the-month. We trust that thisbook wiU be an especial help to thosewhose prayers, for one reason or another, have not been answered. The book is one

dollar. With each order for this book THEVOICE OF HEALING will give free, while they last, one copy of the editor'sbooklet, HOW TO RECEIVE YOURHEALING.

THE practice of fasting is as old ashumanity, but the doctrine of DivineHealing, and the doctrine of the HolySpirit, this has been sadly neglected. Manyother forgotten Bible truths have beentemporarily lost, only to be revived againin the "latter days" of this dispensation. The truth of fasting is being revealed tous as to how to secure greater things ofGod, such as the Gifts of the Spirit, aswell as major signs and miracles in theselast days. Fasting is the most potent powerof the universe placed at the disposal ofall believers.

The atomic bomb utilizes the great natural power man has discovered; we propose to show to the Christian an evengreater power for his spiritual progressthat can definitely be obtained through"fasting and prayer."

Fasting in the Home

To see our loved ones saved, souls converted and a sweeping revival come in ourmidst, to have God work miracles and healour diseases and pour out the Holy Spirit,we should start a fast and prrayer in ourhome. Even if you are the only memberof the family converted, you can get ahold on God in such a way by fasting andpraying that Jesus, seeing your fervor andzeal developing the faith for your lovedones, will most certainly hear your prayerand convert them.

Writer's First Experience in Revival

In 1932 the Holy Spirit led the authorinto his first revival meeting. He onlyknew three families in the Oklahoma oiltown, "Nowata." One of these faJIIliliesbelieved and practiced fasting and prayer.Together we prayed and fasted before themeeting that we knew God was going togive us there. The foundation was properly laid for a revival, and a revival wecertainly did have. There was no build·ing big enough to take care of the crowd,so we secured three acres of ground and

Rev. Franklin Hall, who producedthese stirring scriptural facts on the truthof fasting. His book may be obtainedfrom oUr address.

had an open air meeting. People packedthe place out from the first service. Peoplegathered f<romall over Northeastern Oklahoma and Southeastern Kansas for themeetings. Scores of people were healed ofall kinds of afflictions. Within threemonths from the time we stalted the meeting, we built a church and got it paid forso the people could have a place to worship in spirit and truth. All these resultswere traced directly to prayer and fasting.

Three Reasons Why Prayers AreNot Answered

(1) "Ye have not, because ye asknot." Jas. 4:2.

Some folks pray and think they arepraying when their prayer is so weak thatit doesn't reach the ceiling of the roomthat they are in. This limits God andmakes it impossible for Him to grant Hishigher blessings. We have to mean business with Christ and pray the prayer ofintensity.

(2) "Ye ask, and receive not, becauseye ask amiss, that ye may consume it uponyour lusts." Jas. 4:3.

After praying earnestly and sincerelyabout an object, the Lord will certainly

reveal to you whether or not it is Hiswill. (This does not refer to healing, whichhas alrready been revealed as God's willfor his people. Exod. 15:26.) Once youknow it is His will, go after it with yourwhole body and soul and spirit, and seekHim with your whole heart and "He willbe found." This leads us to the thirdreason.

(3) "This kind can come forth bynothing but by prayer and fasting." Mk.9:29.

If prayer is not answered, then go intoprayer and fasting. Your prayer will thenbe intensified so greatly that you willreally be asking. We can state that it isdefinitely the will of God that deliveranceshould come to the'sick. Sickness and suffering are the works of the devil, and Jesuscame to undo them. He wants to heal younow.

Fasting in the Ministry of Christ

Fasting was 'a part of the life of Christ, and a very essential part that has beenignored. The truth of fasting was an im·portant truth and should never have beenoverlooked. This may explain why wehave not had a more complete outpouringof the latter rain.

The great revelation of why Christfasted was shown when he healed the lunatic boy. Why couldn't the disciples healthe boy? It seemed as if they had becomea reproach to Christ because they couldnot 'heal this individual. They apparentlywere ashamed of themselves so they cameto Jesus secretly, to ask of Him the reasonthat they were not able to cast out thedemon. Then the secret of Jesus' fast wasrevealed as well as showing them what"super-atomic power" one can have. Anyone can have that power.

"Have faith as a grain of mustard seed-and nothing shall be impossible--Jbyprayer and fasting." Matt. 17 :20,21.

In other words, no one was in the midstbut One that had fasted forty days andforty nights. No one c(}uld give help tothis major prayer problem except One.However, Jesus clearly shows us that anyone who would have a prayer and fastingexperience, could do it. There is a bigdifference between prayer alone, andprayer combined with fasting.

Fasting for the Glory of God

When we fast and prav. we shouldnever lose sight of the fact that our fastmust be for the glory of God, that Jesusshall continually have all praise, honorand glory. A continual praise shouldalways be in our hearts to obtain the fullest spiritual results; in other words, makeit a time of fasting and praise for t1heglory of God.

an outside doctor in to the hospital to lookme over. Mter an examination, he madesome brief explanations about my stateto nurses at my bedside. Then he turnedto me, and in a gruff, harsh voice, admonished, "You're too young, too youngto be in this condition. You have no business being this way."

Strangely enough, I was in the samecondition as an aunt of mine, a dear, precious saint of God, in Chicago, myhome city. But she was old, up in hereighties, and her body was worn out; herorgans would never function again. Thedoctors h.ad been carrying her along fora while by artificial aids they were giving her. When she passed away, the samethings which had been done for her werebeing done for me.

Given Up to DieI realized that I was dvin!!. and that

statement, "You're too young to be inthis condition," rose up before me, andcreated a bitter spirit toward the Lordwithin my heart.

No, I wasn't afraid to die. I can honestly say that. But I thought of the yearsof service I could still have for the Master, and I didn't want to go.

Nothing was prescribed by the doctor,

and no attempt was made by the hospitalto give me food or drink. In fact, nothingwas done for me, except that shots weregiven in the arm to keep me quiet atnight, and a nurse watched me constantly.

I sank very low and my suffering wasunbearable. Oh, how could a mortal endure such torture, such torment in bodyand survive! Would I ever live throughanother night? It would never do to gointo the presence of the Lord with a bitter soul. And so, expecting momentarilythat my spirit would take its flig;ht, Iyielded myself into the hands of the Lord, and the Lord made me willing to die.

My husband had been sent for, andstayed with me after I rallied until it wassafe to take me down to Chicago, as Iwas too ill to get home alone.

Evangelist Nankivell wears this sackcloth garment when preaching in accordance with a vow made to God during aserious illness.

Much prayer was offered for my healing, but no change came in my physicalcondition. From the first, I had daily beengiven as large a quantity of sleeping drugsas could be safely administered, but aftera year and a half had elapsed, I was stilltoo ill to sleep most of the time, even withdrugs, and was still being "carried along"on artificial aids that were being given. In fact, at this time, in desperate attemptsof faith for healing, when these aids werelaid aside, I was unable to sit up, to eat

any food whatever, or to even drink milk. There was a burning within my body,

and as the doctors were silent on the causeof my trouble, we thought I had a cancer.

Feeling that I might just as well be facing the facts, I asked the physician pointblank one day, "Do I have a cancer?""No," came the prompt reply. "If you did,you would have been in a box threemonths." I questioned further as to whyI did not get better. It was then he toldme I was in the same condition as anotherpatient he was treating, who was suffering from pernicious anemia and could notlast much longer. Pernicious anemia withcomplications! An incurable condition! Afatal disease!

Resolution to Seek God

I began to do some serious thinking. Ifthe time of my earthly sojourn was limited, a good way to go would be praying. So despite unbearable suffering, I offeredmyself to my blessed Lord in hours of constant prayer for days and weeks. But theheavens were as brass. There seemed tobe no ray of light.

Approximately one year and ninemonths had gone by since I had becomeseriously ill and I was in the same dreadful condition.

The Vow to Preach in Sackcloth

In desperation, one day I humbled myself repeatedly before the Lord, and madea secret vow to preach in sackcloth, if Hewould bring me out of my living death.

"Lord, I've preached your Gospel fOTyears. You've been faithful in healingmany sick in the meetings. I know I'munworthy, but surely, after seeing manyhealed by Your Hand in my own ministry,it wouldn't be that I cannot be healed, that I shall have to go to an untimelygrave. Oh, Lord, if you will bring me outof my hopeless condition in a short timeby some supernatural act of Divine intervention, so that all can see that YOUhave done this, I'll go out and preachyour Gospel dressed in sackcloth."

Two or three weeks went by and a Saturday night came. After retiring, I talkedwith the Saviour. "Lord, all I am, all Ihave, my life, my health is in Your hands;I rest it all with You."

Vision of the Lord Jesus

That same night, or rather in the hoursof Palm Sunday morning, our Lord Jesusappeared to me in a "vision of the night."I thought I was praying. The next thing,

-I thought I had gone into a trance. This"going into a trance" was as definite atransition as -though I had gone througha door, stepped from one room into another. I seemed to be saying to myself,

\\\ ..•.'., '\\", '",-, "" \:.~ <',.' ','.', ~~i,:---',--:..--"-'.- - - - -'I/'i' 'i~.';'~\~" ~\":.:'t: ~e--_'."i,p:-"--_:-"-:--~--.'>~--_:_'~- \~ ~,\~, ~:~~.-~ "~ .,~\.,'" .. - .. "C- -N--. ~,

October, 1949

"Why, I've gone into a trance and I'venever been in a trance before," when suddenly the Lord Jesus Christ appeared. Hestood in front of me as plainly as anyperson I have ever seen.

Oh, how beautiful He looked. Morebeautiful than any words of mine can ade.quately describe! His raiment was whiteand flowing. He did not have a halo overHis head as I have so often seen in pictures, but from around His form, thereemanated a strip of radiant light. The lightfollowed in a continuous glow around theprofile of His body-head, shoulders, arms, sides-appearing to be diffusedfrom within. There was a stately splendorabout His person, and such a placid calm.I could not see His form all the way down,as He was standing behind a table.

Suddenly Jesus vanished as quickly asHe had appeared, and my disappo"intmentwas oveflWhelming.

Jesus the Great Physician BringsDeliverance

Within three days, the change in mybody was so great, I was like another person. I went to the physician and relatedmy story of what had happened. He saidthat it could be accounted for through theappearance of Christ. He told me therehad been cases known to medical sciencewhere through an "apparition," as hetermed it, the whole course of the humanbody had been changed. He would attribute my healing to an "apparition" andwrite it down in the records.

And now I was faced with a vow whichI never expected to keep, as I never expected to get well.

I told my husband, also the pastor ofour Assembly and his wife, and all agreedthe only thing to do was fulfill it, as itwas made in all good faith.

Why the Vow?

But why should a person make such avow?

Before I had become ill, while ministering in white, I had seen the ever deepening shadows of spiritual darkness fallingupon this sinful and adulterous generation.

I had read in the mble how prophets, kings, common people, men, even womenand children in olden days had put onsackcloth when the people had departedfrom t!he Lord. At one time a whole cityput on sackcloth-at another, a whole nation. (Why the day will even yet comewhen in awful darkness and tribulationthe Lord will permit two witnesses (Rev.11) to prophesy clothed in sackcloth.)

So one night in a revival meeting, Ispoke on the subject "Sackcloth andAshes." Suiting the action to the word,I wore a sackcloth dress for the occasion.

Now I was incurably ill. If the Lordwould raise me up, how gladly would Iminister in sackcloth, not as an illustratedsermon, but as an act of humiliation andheartfelt gratitude. I would call Americato put sackcloth and ashes upon her heart.

Thus has come about this present min-

and physical disabilities, and have beenable to lead thousands of sinners to acceptJesus Christ as Saviour.

The Jamaica RevivalWe have been able to conduct Healing

Campaigns already in over a dozen of ourstates and on the Island of Jamaica. In asingle campaign which we conducted, asmany as one hundred and twenty-five deaf·mutes, ninety totally blind and hundreds ofother equally miraculous deliverances haveresulted. Happy and joyful conversionshave numbered as many as nine thousandin one revival.

This brief sketch of my life and of thenumbers of miracles wrought through thesimple "prayer of faith" and mighty Nameof JESUS CHRIST is enclosed for only thefollowing reasons, viz., to "make knownHIS DEEDS among the people" (Psalm105: 1), to prove that "Jesus Christ is thesame yesterday, and today and forever"(Hebrews 13:8), and to do our part inwitnessing to HIS FAITHFULNESS, because He has said, "Ye are MY witnesses, saith the Lord" (Isaiah 43: 10). Amen.

istry. And the Lord hath spoken unto me,"Go and tell how great things I have donefor thee. No case is beyond My hdp. Ican do as much and more for others as Ihave done for you. 'Whatsoever thou shaltbind on earth shall be bound in heaven:and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earthshall be loosed in heaven.' In My Name, bind the powers of darkness and disease, and the diseases will no longer be ableto operate in the bodies of the -people." Icould see diseases of every kind like somany soldiers standing up against a wall, bound so that they could not move.

The Lord is loosing the peoplefrom all manner of sicknesses and infirmities, confirming His Word by doingmighty signs and wonders. All praise bealone to His matchless Name!

THIS MONTH'S PROPHETIC ARTICLE

THE VOICE OF HEALING October, 1949

(Many evangelists, pastors and teach·ers ,have wished for a book which, inhandy form, would give statistics bearingon the signs preceding the Coming of theLord. The well-known evangelist, MartinLuther Davidson, now has prepared sucha book. He gives a large number of important statistics relating to ten greatsigns which point to the Second -Comingof Christ in the near future. This bookmay be obtained from THE VOICE OFHEALING for seventy five cents.)

The

MORAL COLLAPSEof America

From "Statistics, Signs of the Times"

By EVANGELIST MARTIN LUTHER DAVIDSON

FROM CHAPTER ON "LAWLESSNESS"The Lawlessness of Divo-rce

DIVORCE is a revolt against God's lawof marriage. The Bible .says "Boundby the law ... so long as he liveth."Romans 7 :2. For 40 years the United Stateshas been granting more than twice as manydivorces as all the rest of Christendomcombined. What a commentary on "Christian America"! This appalling increase indivorce is one of the warning signs of ourweakening national life. A comparison ofstatistics will reveal the alarming inc.reasein diV'orcein America.

1915 revealed 1 divorce for every10 marriages

1930 revealed 1 divorce for every6 marriages

1945 revealed 1 divorce for every4 marriages

1946 revealed 1 divorce for every3 marriages

Ii the present rate of increase in divorcecontinues, by 1960 there will be one divorce for every two marriages. In 1945there were 502,000 divorces to 1,618,331marriages.

Abortion

Over 1,000,000 babies are doomed todie eaoh year in America because of oriminal abortion. During the year of 1947one in three pregnancies ended in abortion. Some 750,000 were self-induced, orperfo:med illegally. For every fourwomen that become potential mothers, onewill 1e a murderess by destroying her unbornrhrough abortion. As a result of suchnefarious practice, 15,000 women die eachyear needlessly, thousands of others become sterile and manv more are otJherwisepermanently injured.' Since Pearl Harborover 300,000 teen-age girls have been subjected to abortion.

The Cigarette CrazeA beast of the wild knows by instinct

not to eat or chew a noxious plant. Butman, wiho holds dominion' over the beastof the field exercises far less intelligence, violating even the biological laws of thebody by eating, chewing, smoking ordrinking the juices of poisonous weeds.Such abusive practice is a wilful disre~ardof the Bible command to preserve the bodyclean and holy for God. Paul says inRomans 12:1, "I beseech you ... tJhatyepresent your bodies ... holy, acceptableunto God."

The far-reaohing use of tobacco inAmerica is an illustration of man's lawlessness. While millions starve in otherlands, Americans spend more on tobaccoevery year than they do on bread-sO'IIle$2,700,000,000. Americans are now smoking one billion cigarettes a day. The cigarette rmaufacturers are now starting amulti-million dollar advertising campaignto increase the use of cigarettes amongwomen. It has been discovered that onlyabout tw.oout of every five women sm·okeas against three out of every four men.

Promiscuous Immorality

Dr. R. N. Terman's survey reported inAI,ril, 1947, issue of "Reader's Scope" reveals that in 1932 the proportion of nonvirgins at marriage had reacihed 49 percent. Before World War II the rate hadreached 65 per cent, and it is predictedthat virginity at marriage, if the presentpercentage of increase continues, wiH bedose to the vanishing point for girlsmarrying after 1960! The statistics of Dr.A. C. Kinsey have been heralded by thenewspapers and magazines as startling, shocking and appalling. Bible studentswho have read the words of Jesus in Matt.24:37-39 find little to be surprised aboutin Dr. Kinsey's report. His facts only confirm the infallibility of prophecy.

In view of this, it isn't surprising thatover 100,000 children were born out ofwedlock in the United States in 1947. Thismeans that one out of every twelvebabies, on the average, is born out ofwedlock.

The inevitable law of sin is disease anddeath. Man's physical condition is closelyrelated to his moral condition. Loose, immoral living has cursed the nation withdisease worse than death. Governmentstatistics on social disease are appalling.Over 12,000,000 in this country are afflicted with social disease. Approximately1,500,000 new cases are developing eachyear. One out of every ten persons in theU. S. now has or will have syphilis, according to a medical authority. Man is decaying in his own sin. Syphilis causes:

12 per cent of all insanitv.flOper cent of all still births.20 per cent of all blindness.50 per cent of all heart death.50 per cent of all divorces.40 per cent of all cripples.

M. L. DAVIDSONProminent Evanll'elist

LiquorWhile man's law has legalized the drink

ing of intoxicating beverages, God's moralorder forbids it. His statutes read, "Be Dotamong the winebibbers." Proverbs 23 :20.

"Know ye not that the unrighteous ...fornicators, nor idolaters, nnr adulterers, nor thieves, nor drunkards ... shall inherit the kingdom of God." I Cor. 6:9,10.God's law is the basis of all moral law.Man's law takes on tthe dignity of law inthe degree that it prescribes to God'smoral and social order. Drunkenness violates in every sense the dignity of themoral order. Drunkenness is lawlessnessindeed.

To keep liquor constantly before the eyeof the American public, Senator Capperof Kansas has stated that the "annual expenditures for liquor a!fvertisements runaround a hundred million dollars at a conservative estitnate. What has all this meanton the American scene? There is now onelicensed retail liquor store, saloon, or beerparlor in the United States for about every100 families." (Next Page).

Ambassador Hurley RevealsU. S. Responsible For

Fall of ChinaPatrick Hurley, former ambassador to

China, makes s'ome startling statementsconcerning U. S. responsibility for the fallof China. Chiang Kai-shek, thoughhe has made mistakes, nevertheless hasbeen the bulwark against Communism. Hisbrilliant wife has been a Christian formany years, and had won Chiang to Christianity. Here was the man to aid againstthe Red tide that was sweeping downthrough North China. But through a tragicerror the great leader was "sold down theriver at Yalta," so says Mr. Hurley.

America's policy has always been tokeep China free, and to stand against anyforeign power taking territory from her.But at the Yalta Conference, when Roosevelt wlasa sick man, Stalin, with Orientalcunning, managed to dominate the conference and got the President to .;lgree togive Russia rights in China. By this secretagreement, Russia got the preeminent rightto the port of Dairen, the naval base atPort Arthur, a right to the Chinese Manchurian railways. In all this, Chinese leadership was not considered. Hurley goes onto say that "the Yalta secret agreement isa blueprint for Communist conquest ofChina." Alas, so it has turned out to be.CommuniSllllhas swept down from theNorth and enveloped China. China is lost.

The state of Massachusetts decided tomake a survey and find out if the taxesreceived from liquor paid the expense ofit. They learned that in one year the totaltangible cost of alcoholism to their statewas $61,000,000.00, including crime costs, mental cases, and relief to dependents dueto inebriety. Against this there was an offset of $12,139,266.00 received by the com·monwealth from liquor taxes. Legalizingliquor cost this one state $47,860,000.00in one year alooe.

Americans Warned-GetOut of China

As a result of these developments, Secretary of State Dean Acheson, on July 27,urged all Americans to get out of thecountry. He admits that under existingconditions the United States governmentis unable to provide protection. There isgrave danger, he says, that any momentthe Communists may treat as hostages4,000 Americans that have failed to leavethe country. Already, incidents have occurred of this nature and Americans havebeen held oaptive without food o,r water.Lawless Communism cares nothing aboutinternational law. Even Ambassador J.Leighton Stuart has met with innumerablered tape obstacles in trying to leave Nanking. Thus the great missionary enterprise representing tens of millions of dollars is in peril. Cannot Christian Americasee the handwriting on the wall? It is timeto turn from long-range missionary endeavor involving the tI'aining of medicalmissionaries, and to pray that men willget the ministry of deliverance to reachthe ten thousands for Christ, ere the doorof opportunity is forever shut.

European Union'The August 15 issue of TIME describes

the new development now going on inEurope, which may be of the greatestprophetic significance. First, it mentionsthe city of Strasbourg, in which delegatesfrom ten nations have gathered for thepurpose of considering an Europeanunion. This article tJakesnote of the factthat Strasbourg was an important city inthe old Holy Roman Empire and thenmentions that the Holy Roman Empirewas "the first and only European union."The article goes on to say that "this weekStrasbourg beoame the center of a great,if still uncertain move, to revive the dreamof European union." Next it mentions thatTEN NiATIONS (Belgium, Denmark,France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, TheNetherlands, No,rway, Sweden, UnitedKingdom) have assembled delegates forthis first session of the Council of Europe. We believe that this move is of great signifioance and should be watched closely.

Drinking habits are not limited to adulthood. Surveys show that 62 per cent ofAmerican youths between 16 and 24 aredrinkers. There are 1,350,000 girls whoare selling whiskey and beer in tavernsand bars. This means that the barmaidsoutnumber our coeds.

Surely lawlessness is one of the mostshocking, breath-taking and appallingsigns of this age. It is a God-given signof the consummating age.

Questions and AnswersQUESTION:In your article in Questions

and Answers column some time ago, youshowed that Paul's Thorn in the Fleshwas not sickness. However, many preachers contend that Paul was almost hlind.Scofield of the Scofield Bible says, "Ithas been conjectured that Paul's 'thornin the flesh' was chronic ophthalmia (aserious eye affliction) inducing bodilyweakness, and a repulsive appearance."Can you give any further proof that Paul'sthom in the flesh was not an affliction ofthe eyes?

ANSWER:What more proof is neededthan what has been given? Even Scofieldsaid concerning the above supposition,"This cannot be positively known, and thereserve of the Scripture is a sure mark ofinspiration as its revelations. Paul's. particular thorn is not described that his consolations may avail for all to whom anythorn is given." (Scofield Bible.)

But if any further proof were neededthat Paul was not blind or near blind.it is the fact that the Lord healed him!The Lord directed Ammias to the placewhere Paul was praying, that he shouldlay his hands upon Paul that he might receive his sight. (Acts 9:17.) This was confirmed in a vision (Vs. 12). And lfueScripture records that he did receive hissight. (Vs. 18.) Surely this plain statement of the Scripture, should end forever further false surmises about Paul'sblindness.

Nor was Paul a chronic sick person.Sick people couldn't perform the laborsthat Paul accomplished. He himself claimed that he had "labored more abundantlv"than all the other apostles. (I COT.15:10.)Certainly this is not the testimony of asick person. Just before speaking of his"thorn" in II Cor. 12:7, Paul lists his persecutions and reproaches and tribulationsin 11:23-27, but not once does he mentionsickness. The "thorn in the flesh" was thepersecutions of wicked men as Numbers33:55, Judges 2: 3 and other places, surely show the meaning of such to be.

A Danger SpotA new danger spot has arisen in Europe

-Yugoslavia. Tito, the Communist dictator of this country, who aided the spreadof Communism through the Balkans, hashad a falling out with Stalin, and indeednow defies him. Suppose Russia invadesYugoslavia. Would the Western Alliesfight agiainst this expansion westward? The assassination of the Austrian Archduke in Serbia (now Yugoslavia) was thespark that started World War I. Will thisarea be lJheimmediate cause of the beginning of another great conflagration?

Her Vision of the Unity of theChurch

It was marvelous in our meetings howthe Lord brought the different missionstogether. I never permit doctrinal pointsor any "isms" or antagonistic points to beaired or brought up in the meetings; noth.ing but Christ and Him crucified, and theResurrection. They soon understand andget their eyes off one another, and forgettheir ideas and differences and begin tolove one another and S0011 feel the needof getting deeper in God.

Many received gifts and special calls. One night the conviction was so deep thatscores of believers came out from theaudience requesting the laying on of handsand prayer. There were too many to beprayed for individually. So the Lordshowed me if they would aU come andstand before the pulpit, He would blessthem; I told hungry souls to gatheraround and give themselves to God foreverything and anything; we would standand sprinkle the Blood of the EverlastingCovenant on them, and then God wouldpour out His Spirit and give them blessings and gifts. I asked several of the mostGod-filled ministers to stand with me infaith and prayer! Oh, it was wonderfulhow the cloud o·f glo.ry and power camedown! Many staggered and fell; thepower swept all over the house. This wassomething new; no one had ever seenanything like it. Many were saved andhealed.
