SCHOLAR SUPPORT PROGRAMME (SSP)

The Scholar Support Programme conducted by the college as part of Remedial teaching envisages to

extend support to scholars in the undergraduate programme with timely assistance in terms of

tutorials, additional lectures, interactive sessions, question banks and study material.

REPORT (2015-16)

The Scholar Support Programme envisages to extend support to scholars in the undergraduate

programme with timely assistance in terms of tutorials, additional lectures, interactive sessions,

question banks and study material. The programme aims at imparting additional support to needy

students. The Directorate of Collegiate Education implemented the programme for aided colleges

in the academic year 2014-15. According to the instructions given, students scoring low marks

in the qualifying examination are supposed to be admitted to the programme. Christian College

provides special training for 100 students on 10 subjects selected based on demand from

students. Classes are engaged by the regular faculty of the college itself. The first year (I sem &

II sem) and second year (III sem & IV sem) SSP classes were successfully completed by the

month of March 2016.

Students of both first year and second year degree programme were made aware of the Scholar

Support programme in the beginning of the academic year itself. Classes officially started only

after the funds were released by the government. Selection of the concerned papers (Difficult

subjects) was made as per the demands of the students. The coordinator personally visited each

class rooms and talked directly with the student group and listened to their grievances and the

selected papers were finalized only after analyzing the Result Analysis available at

www.collegiateedu.kerala.gov.in and the same was intimated to the Principal Dr. Achamma Alex

and to the College Council.

Applications were invited from the students. The amazing fact was that students who are having

less than 60% marks in the qualifying examination are not many and are not willing to attend the

session. Selection was made according to the instruction given by the Department of New

Initiatives. Students with low marks were selected for the programme. Ten students were

selected for each programme. The list of the students in the form of attendance register is given to

the lecturers concerned. The list of the 100students (both I DC & II DC) and the details of the

faculty (10 teachers from various departments of the college) is given in the report.

Remuneration for engaging the sessions was given after obtaining the declaration from the faculty

after the completion of classes at the end of all semesters (Sem I, Sem II, Sem III & Sem IV).

Text books and study material were given to the students. The list of text books is maintained in

the issue register and is kept with the coordinator. Signature of students are collected after giving

them the study material and stationery kit purchased under the fund of SSP. Refreshments to

students were served occasionally. Since the fund for travel expenses could not be used as per the

instruction the fund allocated was transmitted to other heads (Study materials) as per the

guidance and the order of the Director of Collegiate Education.

Only some students of the previous batch of SSP were willing to continue and as a result fresh

students were admitted as per the instruction of the Department of New Initiatives. Student

coordinators were selected from the students of both I DC and II DC. Jithu S. Kumar of I DC and

Jithin T. Jose of II DC were selected as student coordinators.

8. PERSONAL COUNSELLING

REPORT

A Counselling unit has been functioning under the guidance of three trained teachers-

Dr. Desy P Koruth, Dr. Jisha John and Prof. Leena Liz Mathew. The service of these three

trained counsellors is available during noon intervals in the side room adjacent to the

Meditation Centre. They help the students to enhance their coping skills, make good

decisions in their lives, to improve their interpersonal relationships and to understand their

emotions and their responses to them. Those who need further help are sent to trained

psychotherapists under the guidance of the Management. The Priests, who are in charge of

the students’ ministry visit, inspire and motivate the students on a regular basis.
