Report
"House One: Two Trees": Amravati Garden Club's Campaign "Tree Festival"
Amravati Garden Club, Amravati is a forty years old social organization working with an idea
of infusing love and interest in plants, educate and train the interested people, create an
atmosphere for gardening to keep it greener and healthier. The club has been taking efforts
for popularizing various social activities related to the plantation which facilitate pollution
free environment. Many socially concerned people are contributing to achieve a goal of Green
Surrounding since its inception.
Temperatures have risen due to the growing cement forest around us today and the rapid
damage to nature. Industrialization has spread a network of roads and deforestation of trees
along the roads. In many areas, road widening, large projects, construction of dams,
construction, and deforestation during construction are rampant. There is no doubt that
deforestation will continue under the cute name of development. However, the environment
as well as wildlife has to bear the brunt of this. Considering the continuous rise in global
temperature, concrete steps need to be taken from now on.
If the cycle of nature is to continue properly with the conservation of the environment, it is
necessary to plant trees and keeps them alive. Many organizations undertook the project of
planting saplings for tree cultivation. The tree planting done by some was also successful.

However, have these trees really grown? But who will take care of it? Such questions are
raised hence; it’s the time to take this question seriously.
The organization has started its journey with the slogan "Love plants save life". Now is the
time to turn from the backyard to the environment: from decoration to conservation, taking
into account climate change from our priority of conserving the environment. "Vrikshotsav:
Ek Bhavotkat Abhiyan" was implemented from 21st to 28th July in collaboration with
Amravati Municipal Corporation, Social Forestry Department and Mandal Mathrubhumi
Parivar, Shri Shivaji Vigyan Mahavidyalaya and Kiran Nursery with a view to make our earth
green and make our life comfortable. All the people of Amravati, including all the esteemed
members of the Amravati Garden Club, were urged to participate wholeheartedly in this
campaign and to inspire others as well. Tree saplings were provided to other persons coming
through the members on the guarantee of care and protection. In addition, specially
formulated fertilizers were provided for better health of these plants.
Under this campaign, a total of four places were set up in Amravati city. Two tree saplings
were provided free of cost to the members from 10 am to 3 pm on July 21 from the
distribution centers. From the classical point of view, Wad, Pimpal, Chinch, Shiras, Kadu
Badam, Jambul, Behda, Shivan, Papada / Karanj trees have been selected to complement the
local environment. This campaign was successful with the strength of Amravatian's
cooperation. In all 350 participants have taken the plants and shared Geo tagged photos after
planting the trees at various locations.
The campaign was inaugurated at 10 am at the main distribution centre, Shri Shivaji Science
College. The inaugural speaker was Hon. Mr. Narendra Wankhade, Deputy Commissioner,
Municipal Corporation, Amravati and other dignitories Mr. DP Nikam, Forest Conservator,
Social Forestry, Dr. Kishor Rithe, Founder, Nature Conservation Society and Satpuda
Foundation and Hon. Mr. Madhubhau Gharad,Founder President, Vanrai were present. The
inaugural function was attended by the distinguished guest Dr. V. G. Thakre, Principal, Shri

Tree plantation
Date of the Event: 24th July 2019
Students Participated: 44
Venue: college premises
Organizer: Department of Sports and Physical Education
"A tree is the best friend of man on earth." When we use trees respectfully and economically,
we have one of the greatest resources on earth. Trees are rightfully called the 'lungs of the
earth.' Life on earth would cease to exist in the absence of trees. Trees are responsible for
sustaining the environment in several ways. Trees make life nicer. It has been shown that
spending time among trees and green spaces reduces the amount of stress that we carry
around with us in our daily lives. Hospital patients have been shown to recover from surgery
more quickly when their hospital room offered a view of trees. Through careful planning trees
can be an asset to your entire community.
Tree lined streets have a traffic calming effect, traffic moves more slowly and safely. Trees
offer many environmental benefits. Even though you may own the trees on your property
your neighbours may benefit from them as well. Trees reduce the urban heat island effect
through evaporative cooling and reducing the amount of sunlight that reaches parking lots
and buildings. This is especially true in areas with large impervious surfaces, such as parking
lots of stores and industrial complexes. Tree Planting Program is organized every year
through the Department of Sports and Physical Education to create awareness among the
students about pollution as well as the changing environment and related tree planting. In
which the teachers, non-teaching staff and all the students of the college happily participate
and plant trees. During the same tree planting program, some college players adopt planted
trees and guarantee their care throughout the year.
This tree planting program was also organized by the Department of Physical Education and
Sports in the session 2018-19 on the same date i.e. 24th July 2018. All the faculty and non-
teaching staff of the college as well as the Hon'ble Principal Dr. V. G. Thakare enthusiastically
participated in planting this tree in the college premises where necessary. There were shade
trees like Neem, Purple Shevaga, Gulmohar. In this tree planting program, the principal of the
college appreciated all the students for this innovative initiative and also gave special

guidance on how to take care of the environment by celebrating this program with great vigor
every year. Honorable Principal Dr. V. G. Thakre Along with, Head of Computer Department
Dr. Hemant Deshmukh Sir and other professors was an inspiration for the students and they
noted Well placed trees can reduce your cooling costs in the summer by shading the south
and west sides of your home. Trees play an extremely important part in regulating the
temperature and making the weather conditions conducive to rainfall. They take in carbon
dioxide from the air, thereby purifying it, and release oxygen, which is essential to the
sustenance of life.

Blood Donation Camp
Date of Event: 18th August, 2019
No of Students participated: 37
Venue: Main Hall, SSC
Organizer: Department of Physical Education and Sports and PDMC
Why a person requires blood has various reasons. It may be an illness or also an accident,
nonetheless, it is important. The blood that we donate helps a person in need. It enhances
their health condition and makes them overcome their critical situation.
In other words, blood donation does not simply help that specific person but also contributes
to a responsible gesture towards society. Moreover, it also enhances the health of the donor.
As the cell depletion allows a way for production, not new cells that freshen our body system.
Like every year, this year also a grand blood donation camp was organized in the colleges by
the Department of Physical Education and Sports. The main objective of organizing this blood
donation camp was to inculcate in the students and athletes the awareness that we can make
a small effort to give life to others through our blood by being useful to others while
maintaining social commitment. The students are happy to realize that through blood
donation we can spontaneously help many sections of the society to save their lives and get
them out of many ailments.
Students learn a lot from how we can be useful to the society in the student stage and not only
do they try to emulate it in their daily life but they also learn how to be social through it in the
student life. With all these factors in mind, a grand blood donation camp was organized in the
college in which all the constituents of the college enthusiastically registered their
participation. Was held on which every unit of the college was appealed to donate blood and
every unit of the college responded spontaneously.
The blood donation camp was successfully organized under the guidance of Dr. Punjabrao
Memorable Medical College run by Shri Shivaji Shikshan Sanstha Amravati under the
guidance of doctors who were present for the blood donation camp at a major college. Alumni
of the college and alumni also participated in the blood donation camp. A total of 119
members donated blood at the blood donation camp. All those members were congratulated
on behalf of the principal and on behalf of our entire department. Tea and snacks were
provided for all the blood donors in the colleges.
Hon'ble Principal congratulated all the students and the organizing committee for the
excellent organization. Also, all the technical members and doctors who joined the blood
donation camp were thanked with a bouquet of flowers and he notated that Thus, we know
that blood donation is an important procedure in saving human life. It is a great initiative that
must be encouraged everywhere.

Blood Donation Camp
Date: 14 February 2019
No. of students participated: 84
Venue: Main Hall, SSC
Organizers: NSS and PDMC
On the occasion of valentine day, NSS volunteers decided to arrange “Blood Donation Camp”
with the help of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh memorial medical college Amravati. Dr. Rajesh
Burange, NSS coordinator of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and Dr. V.G. Thakare

humanity. Students and all staff participated in the whole event and made the event very
successful. An adequate amount of blood is needed in all health care facilities to meet the
urgent need for patients facing trauma and other lifesaving procedures, such as blood
transfusions – which saves millions of lives each year. Every day, blood donors help patients
of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those
battling cancer.

Impact: Blood donation is definitely a noble act. Many clinics and hospitals constantly require
blood for several purposes. This makes the idea of blood donation a noble gesture as it
provides life-saving help to people and patients. On an average, human body contains
approximately 4 to 5 litres blood that can be donated after every third month for men and
every 4 months for women and this awareness created by arranging such camps.

invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and
action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to
health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with
yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can
help in well-being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day. Teachers, non-
teaching staff and students of the college spontaneously participated in this health awareness

Tree Plantation Program
Date: 30th July 2019
No. of students participated: 47
Venue: college premises and Kathora road
Organizers: NSS and social forestry department
On 30th July, 2019 to mark the Tree Plantation Day 150 saplings were planted on the college
premises and vacant land at Kathora road under the Maharashtra Government’s “33 Crore
Tree Planting” project with the participation of social forestry department. President of Shri
Shivaji Education Society, Hon’ble Harshvardhanji Deshmukh, Vice President Hon. Adv.
Gajanan Pundkar, Secretary Hon. Khade, Principal Dr. V. G. Thakare were present on the
occasion. Tree plantation is one of the best activities for making the planet greener, livelier,
and healthier. Planted trees help our biodiversity, ensure the supply of oxygen for the next
generations, and provide us with various resources. Without trees, the existence of human
life, as well as other species on earth, is impossible. So, we should plant more and more trees.
Tree plantation has many advantages on the earth and our wellbeing. We as a whole inhale
oxygen to live, and trees are the main characteristic source of oxygen. Tree plantation
guarantees that the supply of oxygen never ends.
Criterion – III: Research, Innovations and Extension [QnM – 3.4.3]
Shri Shivaji Science College, Amravati | Extension and Outreach Activities: 2019 - 2020 83
Impact: Tree plantation additionally urges vegetation to develop. Birds make their homes in the trees, subsequently adding to the beauty of nature. Birds additionally scatter seeds and pollen on the ground, resulting in the development of different plants. So, tree plantation expands the bio-diversity of a specific region.

Water Conservation: Construct of Bund / Bandhara
Date: 04th January 2020
No. of students participated: 100
Venue: villages Naya Akola and Kamunja
Organizer: NSS
National Service Scheme organized special camp for students in the village Kamunja near
Walgaon to cope and understand with ground situation of rural society under the guidance of
Principal Dr. V.G. Thakare. Under “Water Conservation Mission” National Service Scheme
volunteers construct a 30 ft. long , 3 ft high and 2 ft wide bund / embankment at adopted
villages like Naya Akola and Kamunja every year. Collected water passes through the
channels made for run-off and collected in the adjacent dam developed by forest department.
This collected water is used for watering of forest trees of 5 to 6 acres. Also collected water
recharges the tube wells which are in campus. This practice improves the ground water table
effectively. Population, household size and growth and affluence all affect how much water is
used. Factors such as climate change will increase pressures on natural water resources,
especially in manufacturing and agricultural irrigation. It is very important to realize the need
for water conservation in the community as well as personal level.
