An Introduction to the Tentative Design and Other Tasks of Zhanhua Countrys Prawn Breeding Project
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE TENTATIVE DESIGN & OTHER ,
TASKS OF ZHANHUA COUNTY ' S PRAWN-BHEEDING PROJECT
The basic condition of Zhanhua County, the
breeding super iority and the f easibility and the
necessity of the pr oject were , in detailed , intro
duced to the Investigation Group of the World Bank
in the March of t he year . Now , we shall introduce
the main tasks , which were done by us after the in
vestigation , as follows.
I. The Tentativ e Design of Zhanhua County ' s
Prawn- Breeding Project
The design group , which is composed of the
engineering technical personnel of the Zhanhua Coun
ty ' s Water Conservancy Design Office and the Buil
ding Units associated with the project , will be in
charge of the project and arrange the project with
the best reasonabl e and the best advanced in the pro
duction and technology, according to the demand of
the project unit, to the high standard and to the
guilding thought of the high efficiency in order to
achieve the best efficiency.
The tentative design will be divided into
six sub-projects .
1. The Design of the Prawn-Breeding Farm
1 • 1 • The Design Scale
The actual prawn-breeding area is 2000 bee-
tares, it takes up the land area of 2400 hectares
and the 600 prawn ponds will be built up.
1.2. The Design Standard
The prawn ponds will b~ arranged in six
rows . The area of each pond will be 3.35 hec t ares
with the proportion of 6 (1) : 1 (W). The highness
of the pond bank will be 3 metres . The slope of
the bank will 1:3, the width of the bank top will
be 4 metres and the depth of the wa~er will be 2.3-
2.5 metres.
The inlet and outlet chann~ls wil l adopt
the method of three inlets and fouJ outlets, that
is three inl et channel s and four outl et channel s.
1.3 . Conveyance System
In order to meet the requirement of the

production, 2 coiltrolling gat es, 1 highway bridge,
17 production bridges and 1200 inlet and outlet
gates of the prawn ponds will b~ buil t up. And 1
transformer substation with 6000 Kw, 2 pumping sta-?
tions with each having a flow capacity of 45 mJ/s ,
34 Km highway in/ out the farm, the fresh water
introducing pipe of 10000 metres, the channels of
13670 metres, 600 management houses and the power
lines will also be built up.
2. The Design of the Youngprawn-Breeding Farm
2.1. The Design Scale
The design project is composed of 9 young
prawn-breeding houses, with each having 500 m3 wa
ter-body and altogether 4500 m3 water-body. The
constructed area will be 664 m2 • The attached en
gineerings are 1 boilerhouse with 160 m2 , 1 blower
house with 30 m2 , 1 generator set house with 100 m2
and other public houses of 1380 m2 , altogether 7646
m2
of the constructed area. The structures to be
constructed will be 4 first-step precipating ponds
with the water-body of 15000 m3 , 4 second-step pre-

cipating ponds with the water-body of 3000 m3 and
1 deeper precipating pond with the water-body of
1500 m3 which will be built up by using the brick
banks.
2.2. The Building Engi~eering
The youngprawn-breeding houses will adopt
the brick and concrete structures with the span of
15 m, the frames will adopt the light-duty rein
forcing bar structures with the pillars of the rein
forced concrete supporting the horizontal force of
the frames and the top of the house will adopt the I
glass fibre reinforced plastic tiles. The youngprawn-
breeding ponds will adopt the reinforced concrete
structures with the two ends using the roofs of the
reinforced concrete, one end being the laboratory
and management rooms and another being the pond of
the feed materials.
2.3. Attached Engineering
The water, air, heat and electricity engin-. .
eerings will be designed according to the required
amount of the youngprawn-breeding ponds ''fi1 th the
water-body of 4500 m3. In the generator set house~

1 set of diesel set of 200 Kw, 1 set of diesel set
of 120 Kw and 1 set of transformer of 315 KVA will
be installed . In the pump house, 12 sets of centri
fugal pumps of Model 6BA- 8 will be installed. In
the blowerhouse , 5 sets of the blowers of Model
132-1 5/0 . 5 and 6 sets of the blowers of Models 120-
10/0 . 5 will be installed.
In the youngprawn- breeding houses, the pl~
tic pipes with holes on them will be placed on the
bottom of the pond to gas and hydrogenate the water
and the heating pipes will be packed with the plas
tic film to prevent rust .
3. The Design of the Feed-Process Factory
3.1. The Design Scale
The factory will have a process capacity of
9000 tons per year and take up the land area of
10557 . 2 m2 among which , the main workshops are the
area of . 857.2 m2 , the raw material storage house and
finished product storage house are the area of 2000
m2 , the material- sunning stand is the area of 6000
2 2 m and other public places are the area of 1400 m.

3.2. The Building Engineering
The building will consist of four storeries
wh ich adopt the reinforced concrete structures. The
top wil l be the fabricated plates of the reinforced
concrete and be treated with the thermal insulation
materials. The base will be designed according to
the local actual condition.
3. 3 The Productive Technology
The feed- process factory wil l possess the
feed grinders, the sifters, the mixers, the formers,
the driers and the packing machines which will be
selected according to the design.
4. The Design of the Pumping Station
4 . 1 • The Design Scale
Two pumping station with a flow capacity of
45 m3/s wil l be built up .
4 . 2. The Main Design Targets
The water l evel of the inlet pond is 5.2 m
and the wate r level of the outlet pond is max . 2 . 5
m, min . o . oo m.

4.3. The delivery lift to be designed is
6.7 m.
4.4. The Flow Capacity to be Designed
The flow capacity of each unit is 3 m3/s
and the total flow capacity is 90 m3/s .
4.5. Attached Devices
30 sets of axial flow pumps of Model 900
ZLB-100 , 30 sets of motors of Model JSL-15-10, 35
sets of distribution boards of Model GG-10-03, GG-
10- 09 and GG- 10- 54 , and 15 sets of controlling
boards of Model PK 1/800 will be installed . The
installed capacity is 30 x 260 Kw= 7800 Kw.
4.6. The Building Engineering
The engineering consists of the machinery
room, the distribution room, the channels, the in
let and outlet ponds and the banks.
5. The Design of the Cold Storage with the
Capacity of 1500 Tons
According to the demand of the prawn-breer
d i ng farm scale, the cold storage should be rational

in the arrangement, compl ete in the facilities
and advanced in the production devices and tech
nology to reach the demand of the qualjty stan
dard.
5.1. The Building and Structure
r hree dold storages will form a body and
the cold storage and ice storage will form a body.
The thermal insulation materials on the roofs and
walls are the rice husk and the foamed plastic pla
tes and the thermal insulation materials on the
ground are the soft wood . The main body and the a
ttached engineering of the dold storage adopts the
brick and concrete structure.
5.2. Refrigerating Enginee ring
The refrigerating engineering is t wo systems.
One is the refrigerating and storage system and a
nother is the ice-making and ice-storaging system. 0
the former with the temperature of - 33 C and the ln-0
tter with the temperature of -1 5 C.
5. 3. The Electricity Engineering
The i nstalled capacity to be designed is
1227.96 Kw and the supply power is introduced through
the 10 KV U .ne.

5 . 4. The Engineering of the Supply Water and
Drainage Water
The engineering will be use for the wa'IEr
of the production and life with the max . amount
of 42 m3 and the average amount of 2 10 m3•
6. The Design of the Technology Service
Centre Engineering
The technology service centre will composed
a building of three storeries and take up the land
area of 1500 m2 • The constructed area will be 1000 2
m and adopt the concrete structure.
The teaching devices , the testing devices
and the other instruments will be installed in the
building.
II. The Budgetar y Estimate of the Zhanhua
County ' s Prawn- Breeding Prdject Engineering
1 • The Total Engineering Amou11 t of the Project
In accordance with the tentative design ,
the engineering amount will be estimated budgetaryly
as follows: cubic metre of earth : .27454. 20 thousand
m3 ; cubic metre of stone: 25.3 thousand m3 ; cubic
metre of re i nforced concrete: 56 . 8 ,thous and m3 and

t he total investment: 8 3390 thousa nd yuan.
2 . Devices and Instruments
According to the product i vity of the prawn
breeding farm, the youngprawn- breeding farm, the
feed- process factory and the storage, 1597 sets of
varieties devices and instruments will be needed and
the investment will be 9390 thousand yuan .
3. The Demand Amount of Goods and Materials
According to the tentative design and the
building standards, the demand amount of the goods
and materials will be estimated budgetaryly as fol
lows: steel: 2807 . 5 t ; wood: 1593 m3 ; disel oil:
4437 t ; gasoline: 805 t; machine oil: 200 t; cement:
7337 t: asphalt: 150 t; chemical fertilizer: 2000 t;
fish powder : 3000 t; and the investment: 16870 thou
sand yuan ( where, the wood is 5670 thousand yuan.).
4 . The Resource of the investment and Prepare
of the Other Funds
The loan from the World Bank is 44200 thou-

sand yuan, the loan from the Province is 2400 thou
sand yuan, the l oan from the Region is 13830 thou
sand yuan and the funds prepared by the County is
51340 thousand yuan . The main resource is 25000
thousand of the labour cost, 10340 thousand prepared
by the local , 7000 thousand yuan from the agricultu
ral bank, 3280 thousand from the building bank and
the total investment above-metioned is 133370 thou
sand yuan .
III . The Project Income , Specification , Producti
vity and the Demand of Raw Materials
1. The Technical Specification of the Project
rhe prawn- breeding ponds will be 600 ponds
and each will have the area of 3.35 hectares. The
proportion of the ponds ' (1) and (W) is 6: 1 and the
water depth will be 2.3 - 2 . 5 m. 225 . 3 thousand
youngprawn will be put into the one heactare, that
is 225.3 thousand youngprawn/one heactare . Each f
hec tare will produce 1. 5 tons. In th~ youngprawn- · ' /
breeding house , 200 thousand youngprawn will be put
into the one water- body, that is 200 thousand young-

prawn/one water-body. The standard of youngprawn
out of the ponds will be 0.7 - 1 cm and the dia
meter of the feed is 0.2 - 0 . 25 mm .
2. The Productivity of the Project
The breeding area of the prawn-breeding
farm wil l be 2000 hectares and it will produce the
prawn of 3000 tons . The water-body of the young
prawn-breeding far m will be 4500 m3 and will breed
the youngprawn of 900 million. The feed- process fac
tory wil l produce the feed of 9000 tons per year .
The cold storage capacity will be 1500 tons , the
quickly refrigerating capacity will be 90 tons/day
and the ice-making capacity will be 30 tons/day .
3. The Demand of the Raw Material s
rhe prawn- breeding farm will need the feed
of 34500 tons among which, the mixed feed is 7500
tons and the fresh-liv i ng materials are 27000 tons .
The elec t ricity wi ll need 242 34 thousand Kwh . The
coal will need 60 tons . The gasoline and d iesel oil

wil l need 250 tons . The chemical fertilizer will
need 150 tons. The youngprawn-breeding farm will
need the parent prawns of 30 thousand , the el ec
tricity of 500 thousand Kwh , the coal of 1500 tons,
and the gasoline and diesel oil of 75 tons. The
feed - process factory will need the cake materials
of 4500 tons, the fish and prawn materials of 1260
tons , the fish powder of 1350 tons, the wheat bran
of 900 tons , the electricity of 72 thousand Kwh,
the coal of 350 tons and the gasoline and diesel
oil of 15 tons . The cold stor.age factory will pro
duce the prawn of 3000 tons and need the electri
city of 4500 thousand Kwh, the coal of 50 tons and
the gasoline and diesel oil of 150 tons .
4. The Project Income
The pr a wn- breeding farm will sell the prawns
of 3000 tons per year and its incqme will be 45000
thousand yuan. Besides the business cost of 26331 . 6
thousand yuan , the gross income will be 18668.4 thou
sand yuan. The feed- process factory will sel l the
feeds of 9000 tons per year. Besides the business
cost of 9052 thousand yuan , the gross income will be
848 thousand yaun . The youngprawn-breeding farm wil l

sell the youngprawn of 900 million pieces per year
and its income will be 4500 thousand yuan . Besides
the business cost of 2227 thousand yuan, the gross
income will be 2273 t housand yuan. The cold storage
factory will s ell the prawns of 3000 tons per year
and its income will be 6000 thousand yuan. Besides
the business cost of 3212 . 9 thousand yuan , the gross
income will be 2787 .1 thousand yuan . The gross in
come above- metioned will be 24576. 5. thousand yuan .
IV. The Foresight of the Prawn Markets at Home
and Abroad
The situation of the prawn markets is good.
Along with the development of our country's foreign
trade and the raising the standard of our people ' s
life, the prawn products will not be able to meet
the demand of the markets at home and abroad . Jud
ged by the requirement of our country, the water pro
ducts consumed by one person per year will be min .
15 Kg . Now , the actual output is onl y 8 . 2 Kg/ one
person. Judged by the demand of the foreign markets,
the markets of Japan, the United States and the West
Europe have a trend of the increase year after year
and the increase is big, especially the prawn which

have the feat ures of hi gh egg wh i te , low fat, ten
der meat and low price. The prawn products have a
tronger competive-force on the markets and sell
well on the markets. Some detailed informat i on will
be seen on the List of the Prawn-Selling Situation
and the Situation of the World Three Big Markets
F'or Importing the Prawn by Zhanhua County.
It is foreseen that the situation in future
will be good . ·For the sel ling , the domestic market
wil l take up 80% and the export wil l take up 20%.
Some detailed information about the market fore
sight will be seen on the List . Generally speaking,
along with raising the standard of people's life ,
we should develop the prawn-breeding industry, and
increase the output to meet the requirement of the
markets at home and abroad.

V. The Business Cost of the Project and the
Budgetary Estimate of Circulating Fund
1. Annual Business Cost Under Normal Condition
The feed will need 9000 tons ( 1 . 022 thou
sand yuan/ton) and 9202 thousand yuan. The young
prawn will need 900 ·million pieces ( 2 . 725 thou
sand yuan/ one million pieces ) and 2452 . 6 thousand
yuan. The annual output of the prawn will be 3000
tons ( 9.295 thousand yuan/ton) and 27885 . 6 thou
sand yuan. The cold storage will process the prawn
of 3000 tons ( 1. 180 thousand yuan/ton) and 3540 . 3
thousand yuan. The business cost above-met ioned will
be 43085 thousand yuan.
2. The Budgetary Est i mate of Circulating Fund

According to the productivity of the pro
ject , to the demand of the raw materials and to
the busi ness cycle, the circulating fund is esti-
ma ted . The project needs the reserve fund of
7307.6 thousand yuan, the production fund of 16442 . 8
thousand yuan and the product fund of 149.6 thou
sand yuan , altogether the circulating fund of
23900 thousand yuan.
VI. Playing the Role of the Cold Storage and
Making full us~ of the Non-Normal Harvest
1. Guilding Thought
The cold sto~age is the sub-project in the
Zhanhua County 's prawn-breeding project. So, after
building and putting into operation , the full use
must be made to increase its economic benefit.
2. The cold storage must be fully used in the
non-normal harvest , do the cold manufacture business
for the comprehensive business. The actual method
is as follo ws:
2 . 1 . Besides the cold of the prawns , the cold

storage will be able to store other aquatic pur
chased by us in order to process and sell for in
crea sing the income .
2.2 . To transfer and store the products for
others to get the transf ering and storing cost.
2 .3. To freeze the products for others to
get t he manufacturing cost .
2.4. To store the products for a long time for
others to convenient for them.
3. Playing the Role in the Non- Normal Harvet
Besides the manufacturing and storing the
prawns from Oct . to Dec . in a year , the colds
torage can be used to manufacture other products
from Jan. to Sept. in the next year to make the
products stored varieties.
3.1. It can store the fresh- living materials of
5000 tons which is needed to breed the prawn.
3 . 2 . It can store varieties of fish and other
aquatic products of 500 tons .
3.3 . It can store .varieties of meat .

3.4 . It can be responsible for the store of
the livestock and poultry products of 200 tons
for the fore ign '. trade unit .
3.5. ~he con~tant temperature storage can be
used to store the vegetables and fruits .
4 . To ensure the quality of the products , we
shoul d do the following works : to strengthen the
technical guilde, to trai n the production person
nel and to increase the technical personnel of the
free z ing and manufacture.
5 . To make them good to store and manufacture ,
to service for the users and to open the economic
channel in order to achieve higher profit resource .
VII. The Introduction of the Construction Plan
from the Winter of 1988 to the Spring of
1989
To put the Zhanhua County's prawn- breeding
project into effect, we specially make the construe-

tion between the winter in this year and the spri ng
i n t he next year. The plan should be explained as
follows:
1 . rhe Guil ding Thought
To ensure the implementation of the project ,
we are going to put it into effect in advance and
to invest earlier, put into operation earlier and
get benefit earlier .
2. The primary construction scale will take
up the land of 166.7 hectares.
3. The engineering amount to be completed will
be: cubic metre of earth: 1500 thousand m3 ; cubic
metre of stone: 1 .6 thousand m3; cubic metre of con
crete: 3.6 thousand m3; the bridges and gates: 102
sets; inlet & outlet channels: 5600 m; the management
rooms: 1000 m2 ; the feed-throwing boats: 50 sets ;
the highway: 8 Km; the river to be ditched: 2900 m;
the pumping stations: 45 sets; and the transformer
sustation with 6000 Kw : 1 set .

4 . ~he investment of the primary construc-
t i on wi ll be 13337 thousand yuan and take up the
10 per cent of the total investment .
5. The Prepare of the Fund and Resource
The loan of 4000 thousand yuan will be
from the World Bank , the loan of 1000 thousand
yuan from the Province , the loan of 1000 thou
sand yuan from the Region and the fund prepared
by the County will be 7337 thousand yuan , alto
gether the investment of 13337 thousand yuan .
