Jakarta, August 11th 2014.

Welcome to Earoph 24th World Congress. Welcome to Jakarta, Indonesia.

Urbanization gives two m ain consequences namely the increasing demand of basic services (i.e water, sanitation, energy, etc) and the increasing risk of disasters. These two main urban problems are highlighted and made into this year’s conference theme: ”Towards Resilient and Smart Cities”.

Urbanization is also an opportunity to improve the quality of basic services provision, to allocate space for social and economical activities, and to achieve better urban life quality. Ministry of Public Works as National Government’s institution that responsible for infrastructure provision and urban management policies has initiated policies and programs to tackle these emerging urban problems, particularly in Indonesia context. Throughout the years, the Ministry has been working together with local governments, developers, and local communities to implement Resilient City, Smart City, and Green City Concept to create a better urban life quality in Indonesia.

Through this exhibition, we invite you to a journey towards resilient and smart cities. First, you will be presented with the global and national (Indonesia) urban challenges. Next, let us take a look at Resilient City, Smart City, and Green City Concept as solutions offered to address these urban problems. Finally, allow us to guide you to the corridors of some notable efforts and practices of the implementation of Resilient City, Smart City, and Green City, initiated by Ministry of Public Works, the Government of Jakarta Special Capital Region, and our developer partners (PT. Jababeka, PT. Alam Sutera, and Perumnas).

We do hope that you enjoy this exhibition. Furthermore, we hope that we can share best practices and exchanging ideas on Resilient and Smart Cities through this event. We look forward to our potential co-operations in the future.
