paperexplorestheideasofripping,tearingandslittingtherent.Whilethisfbrthe

mostpartmayappeararatherstrangechoiceoftopic,itisintimatelyboundtothe

intellecmalhistoryoftheearlypartofthe20'hcenturyandtothenaturaldisasters

whichblighttheplanet.Atthecentreoftheanalysisisaconsiderationofchaosand
