Recap: Practice phase 2, 3 and 4 tricky words using tricky word trucks

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/tricky-word-trucks

Today we are going to be learning 5 new tricky words:

Mr, Mrs, looked, called, asked

Write the tricky words on a piece of paper one by one and read them together with an adult. Look at each letter in the word. Try and use the word in a sentence. For example, I looked in the cupboard for some biscuits.

Watch Miss Bowman’s video on Say-Look-Cover-Write-Check

Have a go at say-look-cover-write-check with every tricky word. Can you get 6/6?

Practice writing and saying these tricky words every day. This will help you remember them. See if you can beat your spelling score everyday too!

Challenge: Have a go at reading some sentences with the tricky words

Special Places Discuss with a grown up what you think the word special means. Special means something that is positive, different or important to someone. We could have special clothes that are saved for important occasions or special books that we have to treat with care. This week we are going to be thinking about special places. Watch the story below to find out about some special places. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzHsqj9koT0 Discuss these questions below with a grown up

Did everyone have the same special place?

What can you do in your special place?

What makes a space special?

Do we all think the same places are special?

It is important to remember that we all have different special places and that is okay. We are all unique and like different things. Discuss with someone in your house what their special place is and tell them yours. Explain to each other what makes that place special. E.g. Miss Ali’s special place is her bedroom because here I can have some peaceful alone time. My cats like to sit in my room with me and it is full of all the stuff I love. Activity: Draw a picture of your special place. Write a sentence explaining why this is your special place. My special place is ____________ because _____________

History

Christopher Columbus

Famous Journeys

Last week you looked at journeys you may have taken. This week we are going to look at some famous explorers and the journeys they took and why their journeys made history.

Watch the two videos on Christopher Colombus and Neil Armstrong and read through the facts with a grown up. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhpchbk Answer the following questions:

What journey did they take?

Why did they go on this journey?

Why is this journey important?

Why are these journeys a part of history?

Challenge Find a different explorer who took an important journey. Create a fact file on that explorer. Remember for a fact file you can use bullet points and you do not need to write in full sentences. OR Create a picture or storyboard (same as last week) of your chosen person's journey.

Parent tips: Encourage your child to expand on their answers.

Instead of giving simple answers ask them to add detail and explain why.

They can use examples from the video in their explanations.

Fun Independent

activity

Can you make a boat?

Our story this half term is Journey, so your fun task today is to make a boat. You can make a boat using lots of different resources such as Lego, Junkbox Modeling or paper. Alternatively, you could draw and decorate a picture.

WEDNESDAY

Maths

Mental starter: Use a number square and practise counting forwards and backwards in 10s Challenge: Can you count in 10s from 3? (3, 13, 23, 33, 43, 53, 63, 73, 83, 93, 103) Now try from other single digit numbers. ` Randomly point to a number and read it. Watch the maths lesson on tapestry

Learning Objective: to compare numbers

Mild: Like yesterday - get 2 bowls and put a few objects into each bowl. Count them and then compare them using the key vocabulary. But this time use numbers when you compare the bowls -

eg “ 8 is less than 11, 11 is more than 8”

Do this a few times with different amounts, saying the sentence every time.

Spicy: make 2 numbers decide which is the biggest and which is the smallest. Practise this with a few numbers.

Then create a table like this and use the symbols < less than and > more than to compare the 2 numbers.

8 < 10

6 4

11 8

Extension:

Create a table like this and use the symbols < less than and > more than to compare the 3 numbers.

4 < 7 > 6

7 11 16

19 13 17

Challenge: Can you complete the worksheet:

https://resources.whiterosemaths.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Y1-Autumn-Block-4-WO6-Compare-numbers-2019.pdf

Parent tips: make sure your child says all the numbers - children tend to miss out the number that is the same 2 digits eg. 33, 22, 44, 66 etc.

English

You have now been introduced to a few of the characters from the book ‘Journey’, today you will focus on the girl who appears on every page. Draw the girl from the book and then write lots of describing words around her, these describing words must reflect how she is currently feeling as well as what she looks like. Watch Miss Ali’s Video on Tapestry to help you

Parent tips: Please encourage your child to use their sounds to spell words - they do not need to be spelt correctly.
