WORKING MOTHERS IN A CRISIS

Ethnic mothers and singlemothers are among thehardest hit women by thepandemic, which has leftthem alone, and drasticallybehind in the workforce.

Women finding themselvestaking care of children whileworking part time or workingjobs at home haveexperienced the brunt of thecrisis, and millions of womenglobally have left theworkforce since February2020, with economists warningthat a “lost generation” ofworking parents may neverbounce back.

WORKING MOTHERS BALANCING THE HOUSEHOLD

WORKING MOTHERS BALANCING THE HOUSEHOLD

Worldwide, women do at least twoand a half times more unpaidhousework and caregiving thanmen, according to the UnitedNations, even if both parents workfull time outside of the home. When you add in gender payinequality, the lack of paid familyleave and unaffordable childcarein some countries, you can clearlysee what's been created, anunbalanced experience for manyfamilies.

The way that many countries engage with theirchildren’s education has widely utilized the publicand private school systems, especially forelementary school age children.

The parents of many children are working tomake ends-meet. Without the outlet of schoolthese parents are left grasping the idea of raisingtheir children at home, while schooling them andrunning an entrepreneurial in-home business orworking within a traditional job setting fromhome.

WORKING MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN REMOTE LEARNING

Working mothers face going at this primarily alonewith no outsource help. The additional time and coastin meal prep, bonding time with children, and nothaving consistent outlets for children to interact andplay has left many women feeling alone, depressedand overwhelmed.

Many of the world's outdated structures aroundproper support for women and children have beenbroken long before COVID-19. But the pandemic put aspotlight on what many families have been sweepingunder the rug for far too long, a silent cry for help andsupport.
