Indianola Community Backpacks for Hunger

The Ministerial Association of Indianola is implementing a new outreach to families in our community. It is our desire to help meet some of the needs of children easing the burden parents are dealing with during these tough economic times. We are offering a bag of food for children to be sent home with them on Friday afternoon. The bags will be filled with six entrees and two snacks that are child friendly and easy to prepare. If this is something that would be a benefit to your child, please contact us at 515-961-5755 or 515-333-8374 so that we can get your child’s information and get them started in the program. All information will be kept confidential.

The Indianola Ministerial Association

Parents – Please review the 2018-2019 Indianola Community Schools Elementary Handbook available

on the Indianola Community Schools website. https://www.indianola.k12.ia.us/

We hope that it will answer many of your questions about our educational policies and procedures. If you would like a hard copy of the handbook please

contact Mrs. Ridout in the office at 961-9540 Extension 0.

New School hours for Laura Ingalls Wilder

Dear LIWilder Families,

Last spring Central Office administrators, Laura Ingalls Wilder teachers, and myself took a closer look at the bus schedule and LIWilder's start and end times for instruction. Based on the bussing schedule and input from teachers it was determined that school would start at LIWilder at 7:50 am and end at 2:40 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays, school would start at 7:50 am and end at 1:40 pm.

Below are some of the main reasons for the change in the instructional hours:

Buses drop off students at LIWilder between 7:25 and 7:35 each day. Better use of instructional time for all students when beginning at 7:50,

students are not waiting around for school to begin after being dropped off in the morning.

More opportunities for staff meetings and professional development for teachers after school that coincide with Master Contract hours.

Teachers who are shared between buildings are able to be used more efficiently.

Bus students will head to their classroom from either breakfast or Shine time at 7:40. Students who are dropped off may enter the building at 7:40 and go directly to their classroom. Students who are dropped off and would like to eat breakfast may enter the building at 7:30 and go to the cafeteria.

The teachers and I are really excited for the start of the school year. -- Amy Jo Naughton Principal Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary 2303 West Euclid Avenue Indianola, Iowa 50125 515-961-9540 ext 4100 "Committed to Excellence and Achieving a Lifetime of Success."

Football Game Guidelines

We encourage students who attend the games to demonstrate school spirit and sportsmanship. We request your cooperation with the following:

Elementary students (grades prek-5) attending football games and other school events

need to be with their parents or an adult. Elementary students should not attend games

alone. This is for the safety of the students.

If a student has an activity pass, it must be brought to the games. It will be punched to

show admission. After this, if the student leaves, they will not be allowed to re-enter for

that game or event.

Seating for elementary students is with their parents. There is not an Elementary section.

There is a Middle School section and High school section. Students are expected to be

seated during the game.

Students are not to bring their own footballs or other play items to the

game. Playing and running around in the open areas will not be allowed.

Students are to stand quietly during the national anthem.

Thank you for your cooperation in advance and enjoy the game!

Go Indians!!!

Student Drop-Off/Pick-Up Information

Dear LIWilder Families: Our student drop off/pick up procedures are designed to maintain a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal for you, our students, and our staff. The following guidelines provide a general awareness to all involved as well as provide information that will help expedite the process.

Safety Rules:

Vehicles enter the north side of the drop off/pick up loop and parking and leave at the south side. The drop off/pick up loop is one way--from north to south

Vehicles may not be left unattended in the lane from 7:25-7:50 am and 2:20-3:00 pm. If you must leave your vehicle, please use an official parking space.

Listen to school personnel for directions. Always be on the lookout for others. There will be one lane for pick-up/drop-off in the loop. No double and triple parking. Students will not be allowed to go in-between cars to get to their own vehicle for drop off/pick-up. Please

stay in the far right lane.

In Advance of using the drop off/pick up loop:

Obtain your LIW Car Rider Sign to display in the windshield of your car each time you pick up your child. The Car Rider Sign may be picked up in the office on August 22nd.

What is a Car Rider Sign? The Car Rider Sign will be a sheet of red cardstock that is folded in half with the family’s last name

on it as well as grade level(s) of student(s). The family can place it on their dash or rubber band it to their visor.

Student Arrival Directions: All students must be supervised. LIWilder Elementary will provide supervision beginning at 7:30 AM

for bus riders and breakfast students. In the drop off/pick up loop, please pull all the way to the southeast corner of the building to unload your

student(s). Please have your student prepared to exit the vehicle at the appropriate time in order to keep traffic

flowing. We encourage students to be IN CLASS at 7:40 AM. They are tardy at 7:50 AM.

Student Dismissal Directions:

Student dismissal is at 2:40. For pick up in the drop off/pick up loop you are encouraged to have a Car Rider Sign displayed. The sign

will assist us in expediting the process. Please pull all the way to the southeast corner of the building to allow us to load the maximum number of

cars at one time. (All students will come from the front of the building). With proper flow, approximately 4-5 cars can pick up at one time, leave and then allow 4-5 more cars to

pick up near the front of the building.

Other available options

If you are needing to park, you may park in the parking spots on the East side of the loop and walk your child to or from the building.

Naughton

2nd, 3rd

If your child qualifies for transportation services, they may utilize the District’s busing. We ask for your focus and patience as all parents and students learn the new procedures. Please remember that traffic is always heavier at the start of the school year, so plan your time accordingly. The Indianola Police Department will be prominent during the first week and a half of school in order to help maintain procedures and traffic flow.
