Our patients want to go home, and, quite simply,
that’s our number one goal.
Our focus is on creating a comfortable environment,
so you can go home sooner.
State-of-the-art services and peace of mind.
Over the next fi ve years, Meriter will transform
almost every patient room and care area
throughout the hospital. Private rooms and
more family spaces mixed with high-tech
diagnostics and treatment will provide patients
with added comfort while increasing
the effi ciency of our staff.
Douglas Nelson, chairMeriter Foundation Board of Directors

At Meriter Hospital, these are the caring qualities we want each patient to experience, every day.

just knowing someone cares…

That’s the average time from a patient’s arrival in the emergency room to
balloon angioplasty.
64 MINUTES.
Meriter’s Heart Hospital has a streamlined network of nurses,
ER doctors, cardiologists, diagnostic
imaging technicians, and cardiovascular
surgeons working together to provide
life-saving care. Our staff has a
genuine concern for the well-being
of our patients and their loved ones,
providing frequent updates to
family members during the course
of treatment and recovery.
In its fi rst year, the total number of patient visits to the new Heart Hospital was 31,557.
Each patient received care in a private
room with access to advanced
diagnostic and treatment services.
It’s high-tech cardiaccare, close to home.

eriter’s Heart Hospital staff are truly warm, caring and knowledgeable. eriter’s Heart Hospital staff are truly warm, caring and knowledgeable. eriter’s Heart Hospital staffIt’s obvious they love what they do,” says Melanie, who’s father-in-law received care at Meriter. Clarence, or “Red” as he is known, has severe heart disease. “They gave him great care and attention while he was a patient. We also appreciate the care the family received.”
Red, a former farmer and truck driver who loves nature and a good joke, underwent bypass surgery, a stint, and fi nally a defi brillator pacemaker.
Melanie recalls, “While these procedures took a toll on him and the family, the staff really worked to keep our spirits up and keep us informed. They laughed and joked and understood us.”
“Thanks Meriter for not only sending him back home to us ... but sending him down the road to recovery. He misses you guys!”

Highly-trained nurses and physicians help calm your fears. It’s what you
should expect.
QUIET, COMFORTABLE CARE.
Meriter’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit provides a peaceful environment
for when things don’t go as planned.
The birth of a child should be full
of joy, but when infants are born
too soon with life-threatening
complications, the anticipation can
quickly become anxious worry.
That anxiety is lessened with private
rooms for families and their newborns
to bond, a quiet area for infants to
heal and grow, and the most advanced
medical technology available.
Since opening in May 2007, more than 400 infants and their families
have experienced this new level of quiet, comfortable family care.
A leader in birthingservices, right inyour backyard.
felt like my babies were in the care of family members,” Tammy recalled about her experience at Meriter. “My water broke when our twins were just 33 weeks. We were sent to Meriter in an ambulance. There, we were greeted at the ER. Everyone made us feel right at home.”
Both babies needed the NICU. Tammy remembers being set at ease, even during such a diffi cult time. “At fi rst it was really hard to see the kids in the isolettes and not be able to hold them. The staff was so good to us. Their calming presence really helped us,” Tammy said. “The private rooms and being able to stay over night with them made it easy to bond with the babies even though we couldn’t be there all the time.
“Our twins are happy and healthy babies. We couldn’t have asked for a better beginning.”

In 2003, Steve Herschleb suffered a heart attack.
Following his recovery, Steve contacted Meriter Foundation, as well as his attorney, to fi nd out how he could go about

Sarah Nakada was born prematurely at 25 weeks.
Her parents, Dr. Stephen and Deanna Nakada, took her home three months later. They were so grateful for the care Sarah received,
they felt making a gift to Meriter Foundation was the right thing to do.
