What do we do?We give free and confidential advice on your Tier 4 student visa relating to your immigration whilst studying at Middlesex. We also give advice and support on:

• Tier 4 student visa/dependent visas/Tier 1 and 2• Work in the UK• Travelling Abroad - Shenghen Visa• Opening a Bank Account• Police Registration• NHS for International students• Tier 4 visa - Compliance

Tier 4 Visas

• We offer guided workshops, online tutorials and one to one advice on how to extend and renew your Tier 4 visa

• We also “check and send” your documents and application to minimise the risk of a refusal

• If there is a problem we can liaise with the UKVI on your behalf

Work in the UK

• During term time your job must not exceed 20 hours per week – you can work full time only during vacations and from the day your course finishes until the end of your visa

• IFP, Pre-sessional or Exchange students are only allowed to work 10 hours a week during term time

• Students working at Middlesex can only work up to 16 hours

Travelling Abroad -Shenghen Visa

• If visiting several EU Countries you may need a Schengen Visa

• You are required to have 3 months validity remaining on UK visa after returning from proposed travel

• Passport - Must be valid for 3+months after expected departure date from the Schengen area

• Evidence of student status - This is a certificate you can order online on My unihub or ask the Unihelp desk

Opening a Bank Account

• To open an UK Bank Account you will need:

1. Letter of Introduction from University (request from My Unihub)

2. Passport/BRP Card (if applicable)

3. Admissions or Offer Letter

You will need an UK bank account to pay your bills and extend your visa, so don’t delay and open a

bank account now!!!

• To register – Fill out on line application form, copy of passport and BRP Visa Card, 1 passport photo and fee £34

NHS for International students

• Entitled to free NHS Treatment if studying in a course of more than 6 months and have paid the Health Surcharge

• You will be expect to pay for prescriptions, dentist and optician services.

• Register with GP or local practice near your UK term time address. For list of GP’s near you check here: http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search

• NHS Walk In Clinic at Finchley Memorial Hospital and Edgware Hospital- no appointment required -open from 9.00am to 10.00pm

Tier 4 visa – Compliance

• You will be reported to the Home Office if you don’t attend, or interrupt/withdrawal from your studies and for non payment of fees

• You will be de-registered and then reported to the Home Office if you don’t pay your tuition fees

• This can result in your visa being curtailed (cancelled) by the Home Office

• It is very important you talk to us as soon as you have a problem, we may be able to help

• Anyone can become a victim of crime, however some are more likely to become victims than others.

• Thieves have identified students as particularly easy targets as they often have expensive equipment such as laptops, ipods and mobile phones.

• Students are often not from the local area so are unfamiliar with their surroundings and thieves view them as being particularly easy targets.

• Thieves admit to weighing up the possible gains to be made from any target against the risk of being caught or sustaining injury.

• Whoever you are, the chances of becoming the next victim of crime can be reduced by following some simple guidelines.

• Radiate confidence not vulnerability.

• Avoid taking shortcuts along dark alleys, parks or wastelands and keep to the middle of the pavement away from car doors and hedges. Use only well-lit, busy roads.

• Consider carrying a personal attack alarm. Carry youralarm in your hand or at least ensure the cord is easilyaccessible/ operable.

• Only shop at secure websites- ensure the security icon is showing in your browser window before sending your card details

• The Access control card is to be used as studentidentification (ID) card. Once a card is issued it can beused for library services as well as gaining entry tocertain areas and rooms.

• ID cards should be carried at all times on campus andmust be shown when requested by security or relevantstaff. Failure to produce an ID cards may result in theperson being asked to leave the premises untilverification can be confirmed.

• The ID cards should be thought of as a key;cardholders are responsible for safeguarding theircard. The cards are not transferrable and must not beloaned out to any other person.

• Lost/Stolen/Damaged CardsIn the event that a card is lost or stolen the securitydepartment should be notified immediately in order tocancel the existing card and issue a replacement. Lostcards may be subjected to a charge for a replacement.

Nitrous oxide canister misuse is not tolerated on campus and youmay be reported.

‘Smoking’ of Electric cigarettes is not allowed inside buildings –they can set off fire alarms.

Hover boards should not be used on campus and charging ofthese machines is strictly forbidden inside university buildings.

Fire Safety...• If you discover a fire:

• Sound the nearest fire alarm (break glass call point)• Leave the building immediately• Once outside, report the fire to the nearest Security Officer• Only use a call point to raise the alarm - if you are found

using a call point for a non emergency situationyou will be reported for disciplinary action and may bereported to the Police for criminal damage.

• On hearing the fire alarm:• Leave the building quickly and calmly by the nearest exit• Do not stop to collect personal belongings• Do not use lifts
