The Lazy Days of Summer have no place in Children’s Ministry. When the kids get out of school and everyone else seems to be slowing their lives down, we’re just geng started… and Summer 2016 is no excepon! We’ll kick off our summer with Promoon Sunday on June 5 th when all of the kids move up to the grade they’ll be going into Fall 2016. This is an especially big leap for our Preschoolers who will be entering Kindergarten and our 5 th graders who move upstairs to Youth. Many mes, the transion is harder on the parents than the kids, so we make sure both groups do a couple “field trips” to their new classrooms during the month of May. All of our summer programs are for kids entering Kindergarten through 5 th grade in the Fall. They are open to the enre Lakeway community and beyond. In fact, the majority of the kids who aend our summer programs do not aend TLC. For many programs, you can just drop in, but registraon and payment info for camps can be found on the church website, www.lakewaychurch.org. We have Film Food Fun Fridays, where kids watch a movie, play games and get a Bible Lesson that is ed to the movie. We have Extreme Wednesdays where kids get messy & wet while learning about Christ’s love—this year’s themes are Fear Factor and Water Explosion. We can’t forget about Camp Kid Jam, which is our 3-day/2-night camp at Texas Woman’s University in Denton (for kids entering 3 rd -5 th grades) and the awesome Children’s Summer Musical in August. The star of our summer is VBS. This year’s theme is “Walk This Way” where we’ll hit the road with Paul and ask the same quesons he asked and make some incredible discoveries along the way. Kids will grab their gear, check their GPS and get ready to WALK THIS WAY! Volunteers are what make this experience a success and kids of volunteers aend free. Sign up to be a volunteer on the church website today! We serve about 100 kids every Sunday and use the Orange curriculum which combines the RED heart of the family with the YELLOW light of the church to create an ORANGE environment. We believe two combined influences have a bigger impact on the spiritual development of a child and we partner with parents every chance we get. If you’re interested in becoming a part of the Children’s Ministry Team, we would love to have you. Volunteers serve twice per month during one service, so they can sll worship each week. Contact Melissa at [email protected] for more informaon. ~Melissa Alexander, Director of Children’s Ministries “...we partner with parents every chance we get.”

MUSIC NOTES The Chancel Choir led our

Holy Week and Easter worship

in a powerful way. We joined

with the Lake Travis UMC choir

to present our combined Good

Friday worship service in the

sanctuary of Lake Travis United

Methodist Church for the Lake

Travis community. This

dramatic presentation of Christ’s

journey to the cross began with

Christ’s triumphal entry into

Jerusalem, with the singing of

hosannas! We followed Christ to

the upper room and the last

supper and then to the garden of

Gethsemane with “When Jesus

Wept”. Through the dramatic

music of “Torches and Swords”

we experienced the arrest of

Jesus in the garden; and then the

dramatic music of “Take Him,

He Is Guilty” reminded us of

Christ’s trumped up trial and the

cries of “crucify Him!” We

followed Christ to the cross with

Kimberly Clemons’ powerful

singing of “Via Dolorosa”. We

remembered Jesus’ crucifixion

and suffering on the cross. Our

combined choirs led us to a

powerful remembrance of the

passion of Christ as He

demonstrated His “Wondrous

Love” by His ultimate sacrifice

on the cross.

We celebrated the

resurrection of Christ on Easter

Sunday with three packed

traditional services. Our faithful

Chancel Choir sang all three

services with joyful passionate

praise. Our Chancel Choir,

accompanied by brass, led us to

praise Christ together in a

powerful way. Two

contemporary services were led

by our Praise Band with joyful

music and full congregations.

SPIRITUAL CHALLENGE WEEKEND ● April 23-24, 2016

The theme at our Spiritual Challenge Weekend this year was SOUL DETOX. Our middle and high school students spent the weekend discussing and learning about the different toxic influences, emotions and behaviors that we easily become desensitized to while living as aliens and strangers in this world (1 Peter 2:11). Senior Sunday May 12

th

We will be celebrating our seniors as they make the transition from high school into the next phase of their lives.

Faith 101 Students Celebrated in adult services May 1st

and at church supper May 4th

Students need space to ask hard questions and wrestle with what they believe. We believe this is part of the process of taking ownership of their faith. Faith 101 has been teaching students the basics of the gospel and equipping them to follow Jesus in high school and beyond.
