In line with the theme of water chosen
for her 70th anniversary in 2003, CHIJ St
Nicholas Girls' School produced her very
own brand of bottled spring water,
lifeSpriNGS. The brand was launched by
Dr Benedict Tan, international gold-
medallist sailor and consultant sports
physician, on 15 March 2003.
The water in each lifeSpriNGS bottle,
obtained from a natural source, is
oxygenated and purified through
reverse osmosis.
This product embodies the spirit of
creativity and innovation in St Nicholas.
Its name was chosen through a process
of open consultation with the staff and
student body. The word ‘lifeSpriNGS’,
which contains the initials of the school
SNGS, reflects the life-giving water
promised by Jesus Christ.
The light blue label designed by student
Charlene Chew of Secondary 4 2003,
was selected from among several
entries. It features the six school values
of St N icho las—a constant call to
everyone drinking the water to practise
those values. In particular, one is
reminded to 饮水思源 to remember
the source when drinking the water.

Metamorphosis-an array of
colours, a vibrant new life,
a brilliantly bright future.
Metamorphosis-CHIJ St
Nicholas Girls' School
transformed from a small
humble convent to the top Catholic school in the land. This was
the theme of the gala dinner held at the Raffles City Convention
Centre on 29 Aug to celebrate our school's 70th anniversary and
Teachers' Day.
Almost 1,000 teachers, students, alumnae and friends of the
school were gathered for this spectacular event. Elegant ladies
and smart gentlemen clad in formal gowns and suits in a spectrum
of colours mingled with each other and revived long-lost
friendships.
To kick off the festivities, our cheerleaders captured the youth,
vitality and strength that make up the SNG spirit in an impressive
cheer routine and brought the atmosphere in the ballroom to
a whole new level. Further into the evening we were entertained
by the Alumnae choir and treated to a well-produced video show
recounting our school's 70 years.
In her inspiring speech, the guest-of-honour Ms Olivia Lum,
founder-president and CEO of Hyflux Ltd and Woman Entrepreneur
of the Year 2003, shared her life story to highlight the importance
and effectiveness of staying positive.
Dinner was a delightful fusion of Eastern and Western cuisine,
a unique blend that was definitely a feast both for the eye and
for discerning Singaporean taste buds. The interesting dishes
included shark's fin dumplings and cod in laksa sauce. This change
from the norm was an apt reflection of the "metamorphosis"
theme.
After the dessert buffet, the dinner ended with
everyone singing the school song. It was a beautiful
moment.
Our class assembly item on 15 Aug, in celebration of the 70th
anniversary of our school, was based on the theme of gratitude
and humility. The presentation was split into three segments: a
skit, a video presentation and a song.
The skit featured three main characters- Ah Po, Mother and
Ah Girl, all of whom shared their persona! experiences and
encounters of studying in St Nicholas. It certainly helped to bring
back many sweet memories. The audience also found out some
interesting facts about the 'cake' we have in our Family Lounge.
The video presentation was also another flashback to the past
of St Nicholas as it featured the previous school premises at
Victoria Street, as well as various teachers who have already left
our school. The assembly ended with one of our favourite songs,
'若sung by our class and SlWisdom.
I feel that the class assembly item was beneficial in that it
helped everyone to appreciate our school better.

The entire Sec section gathered in the school hall on 30 Aug to
enjoy the performances put together by the nominated junior
prefects and the nominated Prefectorial and Monitorial Board
executive committee in celebration of Teachers' Day. Our emcees,
being the enthusiastic and funky people they were, livened up
the atmosphere and brought the concert to greater heights.
After the hip and cool item by the junior prefects came the
PM Exco nominees' performance, which was special as the songs
came in chronological order from the 60s to the 90s, with the
intent of transporting the teachers back to their younger days.
The climax of the whole concert was the 'awards' presentation
ceremony. Teachers picked by the student body were awarded
prizes according to the special qualities they were deemed to
possess. Some teachers even commented later that the awardees
were really suitable! To name a few, Mr Koh Soo Keong was Most
Enthusiastic, Ms Elaine Lim was Ms Kawai (cute) and Ms
Susan Lim was Ms Sexy Legs—we will probably not i forget these teachers any time soon!
Imagine having to shake your 'bonbons' on stage,
with more than a thousand pairs of eyes watching
you do your thang. Well, imagine no more. We did
just that.
Five shortlisted girls were to perform a series of
interesting tasks to decide who should be crowned
Miss Youthful 2003. The tasks included using our
rears to write the phrase "\ love SN6" and presenting
an impromptu 'music video'. The loud cheers and
applause from the school egged us on, and was a
clear indicator of the sisterly love and support we
enjoy in the St Nicholas family.
After the friendly competition among the five
enthusiastic competitors, Charmaine Yee (S4Faith)
and Talia Ong (S3Truth) emerged the 1st and 2nd
runners-up respectively. I was honoured to be
bestowed the title of Miss Youthful
2003. Nevertheless I feel that all '
the participants were extremely
spontaneous and
deserved to be
commended.

E-learning—a new mode of education! On 1 and
2 jul, the Sec section tried out two days of
e-learning. Everyone stayed at home to surf
the Internet, download notes and do
self-study.
As it was our first time trying out this
new method of teaching, there were technical
problems. These may have marred the effectiveness of
the programme, but they did not detract from the usefulness
of e-learning.
In cases of emergencies, like the recent SARS situation,
e-learning will be beneficial in ensuring that academic work will
not be greatly affected as lessons can still go on-at home.
E-learning encourages independence in students and definitely
requires great self-discipline. We must thank our teachers for
coming up with this idea, a step towards our becoming a world-
class school.
Opinions:
it is beneficial out the system is not very effective as it
is slow. However, it's a totally new experience! -Rebecca Ml Koh (S4Unity)
It is quite inconvenient as the server is
always down. I prefer normal lessons
because I can understand the content better. - T a n Shuming (SI Loyalty)
I enjoy it because it's a different approach, not boring and rigid, but I think it is not as beneficial as normal lessons.
- R u t h Ng (S4Loyalty)
The whole concept is quite good, but I think I will enjoy it more
if the school can improve on the speed of logging in. - O n g Shuj Ying (S3Truth)

In late Term 3, our school launched a 7-week trial of
the home-room system involving two classes, S2Purity
and S3Unity. Under this system, teachers remain in their
home rooms while students move around from lesson
to lesson. The aim of the trial was for students to give
their feedback on the pros and cons of the system after
experiencing it. This is essential before the school
decides whether or not to implement the full-scale
system.
In the initial weeks, when our lockers were still
inside the home room and we did not have easy access
to them, we found ourselves having to constantly pack
our bags and make sure that we had the books necessary
for all our lessons. We often had to leave the canteen
earlier to pack our books for the lessons after recess.
Walking from venue to venue for lessons could be
tedious.
Nevertheless in considering these 'problems' we
need to bear in mind that our school building was not
designed for the home-room system. Things will certainly
be smoother with some physical rearrangement, such
as locating lockers in a centralized area.
A clear benefit of the system is that teachers can
set up their equipment and have their teaching materials
ready in the room before the class arrives for the lesson.
In this way, at least in theory, lessons can start punctually
once the students have settled down.

The handover of leadership from the
Sec 4s to the Sec 3s, held as a combined
event for the first time this year, was a
significant event for the entire school.
The simple yet symbolic ceremony was
a reminder to all to keep the St Nicholas
spirit and flame burning brightly.
The Sec 3 CCA heads, Sports Leaders
and the freshly appointed executive
committee of the Prefectorial and
Monitorial Board were introduced to the
student body and accepted symbols of
their new roles from their predecessors.
Outgoing Head Prefect Ruth Ng (S4Loyalty)
in her speech used the analogy of a
carpenter building his own house to
motivate the new leaders to undertake
the challenges that lay ahead and to call
on the student body to rally behind the
leaders in the endeavour of building the
'house' of St Nicholas.
Cheers to our new student leaders!

In celebration of Racial Harmony Day, 21 Jul, many of our teachers
donned the colourful costumes of various ethnic groups.
The commemoration programme for the Sec section began with a
skit by S3Truth and SITruth depicting Singapore's susceptibility to racial
disparity and the importance of promoting cohesion among the different
ethnic groups here.
The guest speaker, Mr Jaffar Kassim, Head of Public Education at MUIS
(the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore), impressed the audience
by speaking fluently not only in English but also in Mandarin. Mr
Jaffar spoke about the significant presence of racial integration in our
society—which he demonstrated so clearly with his fluent Mandarin.
He even pointed out certain Chinese customs that we were till then not aware of!
Needless to say, Mr Jaffar's talk won the appreciative applause of everyone; we just could not help but clap in awe.

The nation's 38th birthday was celebrated in a big way in our school.
Our school compound was richly decorated with colourful banners, which livened
up the atmosphere. All of us, including the teachers, turned up in the Singapore
colours of red and white.
A skit, the combined effort of S3Justice and S3Unity, recounted Singapore's
history from the 1950s to the present, and even endeavoured to portray what the
future could be like.
A novel segment of the celebrations was a competition which required each
level from Pri 1 to Sec 4 to belt out national songs like 'Count On Me, Singapore'
and 'Home'. In the Pri section, the littlest ones—Pri 1s and 2s—stole the judges'
hearts with their enthusiastic singing, complete with accompanying actions. In the
Sec section, on the other hand, our eldest jiejie, the Sec 4s, showed a fine example
of unity and coordination not only in their lusty singing but also in the way they
were seated to form a large state flag.
The celebrations were a fitting tribute to Singapore indeed.

"You don't miss your
water until your well runs
dry.
This old English
proverb caught my
attention the moment I
stepped into the NEWater
Visitor Centre. All of us Sec
4s made a trip to the
centre on 5 and 7 Aug as
part of our National
Education programme.
With the superficial
knowledge that we had
about this new source of
water, we had our reservations when we were first told about
this trip. However, our teachers promised us a fun and fulfilling
journey, and indeed it turned out to be both enlightening and
entertaining for us.
We viewed a video presentation on Singapore's search for
alternative sources of water, then engaged in 6 multimedia
interactive games by which we learned about how Singapore
made use of advanced technologies to produce NEWater. We
were also introduced to the processes in the production of
NEWater-microfiltration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet
disinfection.
We left the centre not only with increased knowledge and
understanding, but also as proud owners of bottles of NEWater,
which we received as gifts. Cheers!

The visit to the RSAF Open House
at Paya Lebar Air Base on 5 Sep
was a meaningful end to Term 3
for the Sec 3 cohort.
The trip, part of our National
Education programme, served to
open our eyes to view Singapore's
effective defence force beyond our
textbooks and to learn more about
the importance of deterrence.
These targets were effectively met,
but there was also more to the
entire trip. Call it a bonus, but we
got the rare opportunity to feast
our eyes on airplanes, which is
not part of our regular daily activity.
When I first got there, the first
thing that struck me was that the
air base was really huge. The place
was packed with many people,
mostly visitors, eager to learn
something new, and air force pilots
smartly attired in their uniforms.
There were booths selling little
souvenirs and food and drinks. All
around me were airplanes of
different sizes and models, each
of them accompanied by air force
pilots who offered us helpful
explanations. Most of my time
there was spent viewing the
exhibition with my friends, where
we learnt something new in the
midst of having fun.
Then came the most exciting
part of the trip: the spectacular
aerial display. What we saw was
mind-blowing. One after another,
the pilots flew the jets up into the
sky, before they came parachuting
down from high above, totally
wowing the audience.
Looking at the RSAF at its best,
how could we not be proud of it?

On National Day, S3Wisdom held an exhibition at the
Kebun Baru Community Club to round up our Project
Work module. The exhibition aimed to inform the
public of the importance of water, emphasize the
need to conserve this precious resource and introduce
lifeSpriNGS, our school's bottled water.
To accentuate the importance of water, its roles
in maintaining a person's health and water rituals in
various religions were explored. The main attraction
of the exhibition, however, had to be lifeSpriNGS, as
our school is the only one in Singapore to have her
own bottled water. We had a two-dimensional structure
which illustrated the stages of purification of lifeSpriNGS
water and displayed the winning entries of the label
design competition held earlier this year. The labels,
selected by our Pri and Sec Art teachers, were stuck
on lifeSpriNGS bottles which our class had collected
from our lifeSpriNGS recycling project.
This was indeed a fulfilling and enriching experience
as both the public and we gained important knowledge
about water in the process. We also enjoyed the
partnership with Or WHO waterworks Pte Ltd, whose
kind assistance and generosity certainly contributed
to the success of this exhibition.

For the first time, our school organized a Project
Work Symposium on 23 Aug in place of the
annual project fair SyNerGiSe. We were
privileged to have groups from 7 other schools-
Anglican High School, Dunman High School,
Nanyang Girls' High School, River Valley High
School, Singapore Chinese Girls' School, Tanjong
Katong Girls' School and Victoria School-join
us at the symposium.
Teams from our school and the guest schools
shared their project work in various modes of
presentation such as PowerPoint slides and
webpages. Their project content was varied
and interesting. Some groups came up with
entrepreneurial projects; others had projects
that dealt with global issues like recycling.
Moreover, some teams from our school
went out to Cedar Girls' Secondary School,
Nanyang Girls' High School, River Valley High
School and Victoria School to present their
projects.
We have learnt a lot from this sharing.
Not only were we exposed to fresh ideas for
projects, we were also provided with an
opportunity to discover new
things and grow. Although
this was the first time
such a symposium was
carried out, it went
relatively smoothly. We
look forward to
more of such
symposia in the
future.

"...we learned the various aspects of leadership as well as team-building skills"
47 nominated Sec Junior Prefects made their way down to Pasir Ris on 30 Aug for a
one-night camp. There we learned the various aspects of leadership as well as team-
building skills linked to the theme of our camp, "Making a Difference".
The many activities and games organized for us were challenging and exposed
us to a wide expanse of skills and knowledge. These included games like the treasure
hunt a la The Amazing Race, which required teams to move around the resort
completing various tasks, their hands bound with raffia strings to the other team
members'.
The highlight of the camp was the confidence night walk. Everyone had to walk
in pitch-darkness through a path in Pasir Ris Park.
We are proud to say that we have grown and developed through the camp. It
has truly been a wonderful learning experience for us all.

HELPING A SISTER by Wong Yun-Jie (P6Justice)
On 14 Aug the Pri Prefectorial Board
organized a fund-raising campaign during
recess for one of our fellow prefects, Sharrie
Lu (P5Hope), who had won a gold award
in an international art competition and
had been invited to the United States to
attend the International Child Art
Foundation Conference and Festival.
As Sharrie's living expenses would not
be provided for during her stay, the prefects
took up the challenge to raise funds for
her in the spirit of sisterly love.
We were blessed to have Mr Sunny
Ho's parents-in-law fry a whopping 688
chicken wings for sale. We then positioned
ourselves in the Pri teachers' lounge and
Family Lounge to sell the wings. Within
an hour the chicken wings were all sold
out and the Board managed to raise $500
for Sharrie. Well done, prefects!
"...a brilliant performance,a true
showcase of the many talents
that we have in our school"
Fluid Fusion—b fusion of drama, music and dance wrapped up and
showcased in an exuberant performance. Held on 1 Aug as part of a
series of events to mark our 70th anniversary, Fluid Fusion boasted
spectacular presentations by the various performing arts groups of both
the Pri and Sec sections of our school. The St Nicholas spirit was palpable
in Kallang Theatre as we embraced familiar faces and gave flowers to
the performers. It was definitely what you would call a family event
as siblings, parents and grandparents made their way into the theatre
excitedly in the hope of securing the best seats. Free seating meant
that many arrived very early to ensure they got a good view of the
stage-especially the one performer that they had come to support.
b ^ Sheena Yap (S3Hope)
The show began promptly after the arrival of the guest-of-honour,
Dr Christine Yap, an alumna of the school who was a President's Scholar
and is now a gynaecologist at the Singapore General Hospital. Each
performance was greeted by rampant cheering and applause as we once
again exhibited the passionate spirit of St Nicholas. The music of the
Chinese Orchestra, Symphonic Band and String Orchestra lifted our spirits,
while the Pri and Sec Choirs took our breath away with their melodious
singing. Both choirs also combined fervent actions with their songs, a
feat that was definitely not easy. The Pri and Sec Dancers drew tremendous
applause with their graceful and intricate moves and the ELDDS won us
over with their excellent acting skills, as they combined the art of miming
and story-telling with a touch of Indian culture. During the finale,
representatives of the performing groups came together for the traditional
St Nicholas Family Dance, while many of us instinctively sang along to
the all-too-familiar tunes. All in all, it was a brilliant performance, a true
showcase of the many talents that we have in our school.
We had done it again.

WITs give us students an opportunity to identify problems
in the school, analyse them and come up with suitable and
effective solutions for them.
The ideas presented included barriers in the canteen to
prevent queue-jumping; a pass system for leaving the classroom
during lessons; provision of cupboards for students to deposit
their pinafores during PE lessons, and signs and school campus
maps to guide visitors around. We look forward to some of
these being implemented next year!

TRAINING TRIP FOR SPORTSGIRLS
by Tham Shu Ting (S3Wisdam)
We were all looking forward to the full-day outing to Sentosa on 23 Aug promised us
as a celebration of our excellent achievements in sports.
Bubbling with excitement, about 240 of us sportsgirls from the Pri and Sec sections
set off for rustic Sentosa. We quickly settled down on the soft white sandy beach, where
a huge tent had been set up for us. It was our only shelter from the scorching sun.
The teachers geared us up for some adrenalin-filled fun with a smash-the-balloon
game. The aim was to avoid having your team's balloons burst by others. Some older
girls even carried the Pri girls to keep their balloons out of range of the opposing teams!
We created such a row kicking up mini sandstorms at the beach that it attracted the
attention of many early beach-goers.
From then on, it was a continuous string of activities with not a dull moment. We
spent our whole day at the beach playing teambuilding and communication games.
There were also scavenger hunts, sandcastle-building competitions, problem-solving
situations and team evaluations, which gave us time to think about our achievements
and our targets for the coming year.
The food really surprised us as we were treated to scrumptious Sentosa buffet spreads
for both lunch and dinner. There was a huge selection of delights, ranging from Hong
Kong noodles and braised chicken to fruit cocktail and lemon chin chow. Teachers and
students alike were stuffed to the hilt as we devoured every morsel of the feast.
While the day went well, that night threatened to end on a low note with rain
washing out our visit to the magnificent laser display at the musical fountain. We were
forced to seek refuge in our tent. However, in the true SNG spirit, we were not going
to let something like that dampen our hard-earned outing. Some Track and Field girls
put up an impromptu performance featuring F4-1 and our very own 'pop group'-the
Seasons. They stirred up such a racket that many
laughed till they cried.
It was truly a day to remember as we learned
to bond even better with our team-mates and
teachers. The best souvenirs we brought home
were probably the tomato-red faces from a
whole day of sun and the brilliant smiles from
12 solid hours of fun.

With growing interest in junior golf, it is not surprising that more schools now recognize golf as a CCA. To give this
sport a boost at the national level, the First Interschool Team Championship was held at the Seletar Golf and Country
Club on 21-22 Jul. Each school was invited to send a team of two golfers for each division. Clara Ang (S2Grace) and
I represented our school in the Girls' C Division.
The tournament was well received with 25 schools participating, including Anglo-Chinese School (Barker), Anglo-
Chinese School (Independent), Raffles Girls' School, Singapore Chinese Girls' School and St Gabriel's Secondary School.
We were proud that our team managed to come out tops with a total score of 373-26 strokes ahead of the
RGS team, which came in second. Also significant was the fact that, with this win, we are the first school to take
home the challenge trophy in the inaugural competition.
This was certainly a very good experience for us. We hope that in the future there will be more golfers to form
a bigger team to represent our school.

Obtaining the twin championship titles two years in a row has not been easy, but through our perseverance, effort and
a positive attitude, we have managed to achieve that.
Being champions definitely feels great, but success did not come easy. In our preparation for the competition we
endured hardships. We are proud to say that we learned a great deal from the experience. In the process of overcoming
difficulties we have grown in confidence and proved ourselves to be resilient, facing each obstacle with determination,
faith and hope. To us, winning isn't everything, but the will to win is of greater importance. God has been very gracious
to us, seeing us through our tough times. We placed our trust in him, and he has led us to where we are today.
We are truly grateful for the overwhelming support from the school, the coaches and the teachers, and will try even
harder to shine once again.

Dressed in colourful and elegant leotards, our gymnasts shone like
stars. Bold and distinct yellow letters spelling "St Nicks —Yah!" on a
blue banner made their compelling statement. This blended in beautifully
with an ecstatic sea of blue, as triumphant gymnast after gymnast,
adorned with our trademark star, received their well-deserved medals.
But we all know that winning isn't everything. As we struggled for
success, we learned the true meaning of unity within a team. The
mutual encouragement and support that we shared was crucial in
boosting our confidence and fighting spirit as we went out and gave
our best. All in all, we were glad that the exhausting hours of training

This year our C Division team did very well
in the national 11-a-side and 6-a-side

managed to clinch the 1st runner-up
position in both tournaments.
However, the good achievements did

build up our stamina and learn match
strategies. Regular training at external

schools gave us more match experience
and exposure to the full-size hockey pitch.
Under the rigorous training of our coach,
we have emerged as better and stronger
players, in terms of both skills and character.
All these training sessions have bonded
the two divisions as one team and built
up teamwork, discipline and commitment.

B Division:2ndC Division:3nd
We have achieved our sterling results with God's constant blessings.
In addition, we truly appreciate the support from the school and, more importantly, our dear enthusiastic seniors, who came down to support us in our tournaments.
Our dedicated teachers and coaches, who have committed themselves wholeheartedly to the team, have also helped to nurture us to become better players in both our mentality and our skills. Our coach provided us with many opportunities to spar with players from other schools so as to test our skills and endurance. This includes the team's participation in an annual ranking exercise by which members are given the chance to recognize their abilities.
We recognize that team spirit is a very important bonding factor. We have also learnt and understood the importance of commitment to the team, having determination during tournaments, and possessing perseverance during training. We hope to maintain our optimism, confidence and trust through the years.

B Division: Top 8 C Division: 4tn
It has been an eventful and rather stressful year for our team. Right from the beginning of the year, we advanced into full-time smashing and attacking in the zonal competition with hardly a break. Thankfully, we clinched the championships for both 8 and C Divisions almost effortlessly.
However, the postponement of the national competition due to the SARS outbreak disrupted our training. Fortunately, we were sensible and sensitive. In order to keep our spirits and morale high, we often offered gifts to each other and never failed to give each other support and encouragement.
It was a tough fight. We were nervous and scared, but eventually managed to pull ourselves together with support from our seniors and teachers, and of course each other. Throughout the tournament, we showed good sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
We can proudly say we have lived up to our motto: Don't slack! Smack and attack!

"Effort will only fully release its reward
after a person refuses to quit." -Napoleon
Hill
Our netball team took advantage of
the postponement of competitions due to
the SARS outbreak to train extremely hard
during the June holidays. We are glad that
we managed to rewrite the history of
netball in our school by clinching the 3rd
position in the C Division tournament and
attaining to the top 8 positions for B Division.
During the tournament, we were all
under tremendous pressure to play our best
because we were accountable not only to
ourselves but to the entire team, and indeed
the school. The amount of hard work, effort
and perspiration that we put in was truly
admirable.
We knew God was always watching
over us and giving us the strength to play
on. We had faith in him, and faith in
ourselves-and we held on even when we
were exhausted. We never gave up.

SYF Central judging of Drama: Bronze
by Yong Hui (S40iligence)
Why? We tried to think of a hundred and more ways why we had to be the batch to make appalling history for our society and
take the standard of our drama to such a devastating trough. We felt that the script might not have been to the judge's liking. That
conclusion was reassuring. We successfully came up with many ways to improve our performance at the next SYF central judging.
Spilt milk does not deserve tears.
SYF Central Judging of Dances (Chinese Contemporary): Gold
SYF Central Judging of Dances (International Contemporary): Gold
We succeeded in achieving 2 gold awards—for International Dance and
Chinese Dance.
This was not an easy victory. Choreographing the dances was difficult.
Many of the dancers could not make it to all the practices, so the progress
was slow. The majority of us were also weary from the practices that
stretched over a period of 8 months. Yet, despite all the obstacles, we
have reached our ultimate goal. Through this experience, we have come
to realize the importance of teamwork and how one should always remain
cooperative and responsible in a team at all times. We have also leamt
to endure physical pain and treat it as a constant reminder to ourselves
to work harder to achieve success.
The awards came as a surprise to us. But we had put our hearts and
souls into each dance and are elated that the tears and sweat we shed
have not been wasted.

Our students are shown the importance of values like loyalty, dignity and
compassion through our Values Education Programme. Using a whole school approach, students
participate in structured activities which aim to strengthen individual and group values, as well as
to deepen the student’s understanding of herself.
We create many opportunities for our girls to develop their leadership potential. Each has
a chance to participate and lead in various mass activities to enable them to learn
important life-skills such as teamwork and self-descipline.
We strengthen the patriotism of our students by helping them to acquire more knowledge
about Singapore’s past and Her achievements. Teachers infuse National Education into the
formal and informal curriculum. The appreciation Multiculturalism and communal interdependence
are all to be celebrated and cherished. These ideals are expressed and held in our original Students’,
Teachers’, Parents’ and A lum nae’s Pledges. These are testimonies to their commitment to the
future of Singapore.
We also strive to create the most conducive environment for social and spiritual growth. To make this
possible, St Nicholas aims to bring together the best that society can offer to train her students. In fact,
our school is microcosm of society, where parents, alumnae and well-wishers are welcomed to render
their skills and expertise to develop our students
holistically.
Our student in turn, enjoy contributing to the
community around them, be it organising fund
raising activities for various charities, offering
their services to the needy or putting up
concerts for their enjoyment. Our teachers,
parents, alumnae and well-wishers gain beyond
measure from our girls’ exuberance: the latter’s
eagerness to learn and their youthful altruism
are lessons in themselves.
体育Physcial
Well-beingThe physical well-being of the students is catered to
by our varied and wide-ranging sports and Physical Education
Programme. By the time a girl leaves St. Nicholas she will have
developed the love for at least one sport or game which will enable
her to keep fit and healthy throughout her life.

creativity and problem solving skills. We aim inculcate in our students a passion
for life-long learning.
Exposure to the top minds from different fields through seminars, talks and courses
keeps St. Nicholas girls at the fore-front of current developments in their areas of study
and teaches them the merits of independence, daring, perserverance, innovation and
enterprise. Our annual educational tours also let our students experience first hand
what they have studied.
Excellent school results and outstanding achievements in both local and international
competitions bear witness to the success of our programme.

also serves to bring the girls closer to nature. Our students stride through corridors lined
with fine artwork, tinkling wind-chimes and grounds of lush greenery.
A myriad of activities is conducted to help us achieve our aim of honing our students’
cultural and aesthetic sensitivity. Examples include Chinese Calligraphy, Porcelain
Painting, Ballet, visits to Cultural and Historical Museums, Social Graces, Oratorical
Communication, Chinese Literature Appreciation classes as well as our music
programmes. With such exposure, our students’ lives will be filled with the joy of music,
the wonderment of beauty and heartfelt appreciation of the nature.

"We Mould the future
and we do it with Love" We believe it is important to nurture our students to be appreciative of all the good things they are given in life. As the saying goes,“Yin Shui SiYuan 饮 水 思 源 ” - as you drink, remember the source.” Our girls should aspire to improve themselves with the aim of serving their community andnation. This is why members of our Alumnae are so attached to their alma mater and are always selfless in contributing their services to their juniors after they graduate.
We take pride in training individuals for the next millennium. The maxim “Think Global, Feel Local” underlies the St. Nicholas G irl’s attitude towards life and experience. We emphasise the teaching of sound principles and values, as well as a love for her country. Our graduates will embrace the world
with a generous, entrepreneurial and rugged spirit, and are inquisitive and discerning in thought. In St. Nicholas, we have a vision: we mould the future and we do it with LOVE.
