GLOBAL CENTER FOR DIGITAL INNOVATION (GCDI)
• IMAGINE A HANDS-ON LIBRARY, WHERE YOU GO TO CREATE AND
LEARN, FOR FREE (SORRY YOU CAN’T TAKE HOME THE TOOLS)
• COMMUNITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP AREA, K-12 AREA, COLLEGE
AREA ALL UNDER 1 ROOF
• PROMOTES WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH INNOVATION,
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING, AND
BUSINESS/ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING
Enhancing
Education
through
Digital Fabrication
Students are
empowered to fill
emerging workforce
needs & create new
pathways for
innovation
The Nation’s 1st K-14 Digital Fabrication Pathway
Also known as rapid
prototyping, is a type of
manufacturing process where
the machine used is controlled
by a computer. Digital
fabrication includes
technologies such as 3D
printers, cutting machines, and
other design and printing
machines.
DIGITAL FABRICATION
GCDI Tools
Arduinos and Electronic Equipment
3D Printers (Filament and Resin)
Laser Cutters
Mills and Routers
Power Tools
Vinyl Cutters
Arduinos and Electronics
Arduinos are a single board
microcontroller that let’s
you create original
electronics and electronic
applications.
3D Printers
Filament 3D printers take a
3D model and print it into
an object layer by layer
Using a filament. Resin
printers use a laser and a
resin to print the layers.
Laser Cutters
Uses a laser to slice
material using a computer
generated pattern. The
laser melts, burns or
vaporizes the material
away, leaving a pattern.
Mills and Routers
Routers move to hollow
out materials with a special
cutting bit. Mills remove
materials using a cutting
bit, but usually have more
limited movement.
Power Tools
A tool with a power source
that is used for drilling,
fastening, cutting, shaping,
sanding, grinding,
polishing, etc. You get the
point…

EntranceThe GCDI will be on the second floor of the CETAS
building on Chattanooga State’s campus. The open
foyer will encourage discussion and creativity in a
comfortable atmosphere.
Lab 1 - Clean SpaceIncludes 3D printers, laser cutters, computers &
electronics. This area is designed for instruction and
student prototyping with digital fabrication tools.
Lab 2 - WorkshopIncludes saws, CNC routers, CNC mills, and other
woodworking tools. Students can prototype with
analog and digital tools without interfering with
sensitive electronics and equipment.
Student Collaboratory &
Entrepreneurship CenterSpace for large groups & small teams to collaborate
& work. Includes another “clean lab” filled with digital
fabrication tools for rapid prototyping & marketing
