Come 31st January, this year, we are going to find a change in the leadership of the Bank. Sri S R Bansal, the Chairman and Managing Director of the Bank (Probably the last to hold these dual posts in combined state) will lay down his office after a tenure of 28 months which saw drastic events and unexpected developments – both in the industry and the Bank. The 28 months’ bag was mixed – but surely the Assets did not tally with the Liabilities – with the overweight of the latter. On an analysis of Balance Sheet we may note a few things of hard realities. Let’s analyse the liability side first:

• A large scale loss/erosion of morale in the workforce during the last 28 months has apparently affected the Bank. The gravest of the pronouncements was - neither anybody in the Bank worked for the last 5-10 years nor any leader at the helm did good to the Bank for the last 10 years!!! At one go, the toil of the staff day and nights was totally shunted to the dustbin – not once; but umpteen times. The questioning of the commitment, ridiculing of the trivial errors, comments on the region and States and so many - devastated the working zeal of the employees, officers and the executives alike.

• Micro - management has nipped the buds of initiatives in the Bank affecting the decision taking at various sub-ordinate levels. Normally, the top strata of power is assigned with the job of prioritising the growth agenda for the Bank, driving the immediate sub-ordinates like General Managers and Zonal Heads to execute and concentrating on macro level growth of the institution. Smaller aspects and micro level issues will be dealt by lower rung of authorities.

THE SKEWED BALANCE SHEET OF 28 MONTHSBut what was happening during the last 28 months was – only single soul was working in the Bank – for micro issues!!!

• The treatment part had suffered the most. The sub-ordinates did not get the respect and regard that was due to them. The regularly used terminologies were demeaning the proponent as well as the recipients/listeners. Ill-treatment did not spare any grade or scale – all without any bad intentions, of course. The ego of the workforce has been punctured beyond the level of repair – all in the name of extracting work and performance – but in total futility.

• Transfers of a section of supervisory cadre have apparently caused a great extent of harm to the business profile of the Bank. Though these transfers were made a routine part of executive management for the last 28 months and with an ideal intent to give “Exposure” out of a “Comfort Zone” without anything “Goody Goody”, the results were – apart from being not positive - not digested by a vast majority.

• On the business front, the Bank bled beyond the forbearance limits. The unabated growth in NPAs, the unstoppable downslide in CASA as a percentage, the dwindling of Net Profits and a stagnant financial Balance Sheet – all beaconed the sliding of the Bank. Beyond what happened in industry, our Bank’s status is worrysome.

On the Assets’ side:

• For the first time in the last 18 years, the Bank deviated from its professed business policy of garnering bulk deposits to galvanise the size of the Balance Sheet. From around 55% in October, 2013,

it stood just above 48% in September, 2015. It singly goes to the credit of Sri Bansal, he foot-pressed the usual urge of CMDs to show large size Balance Sheet. Though the business did not grow during the period remarkably, the divestment of the bulk resulted in reduction of Cost of Deposits from 8.02% to 7.64% and increase in NIM from 2.15% to 2.21%.

• In a balancing act between the deposits and advances, the Bank also did not peddle for fast track bulk advances (except marginally a few to the existing good clients). This will, probably, ensure no repetitions of Kingfishers, Deccan Chroncles, Rei Agros and the like in future – the costliest legacy of past.

• Commendable actions were taken in improving the sagging health of our ATMs (which were nearly written off by the industry), rectifying the deficiencies of the existing CBS and initiating steps to replace the same with new CBS technology.

• A general awareness has been created in the last two and a quarter years among the Corp Bankers on the need to reduce on expenditure front. In the immediate previous regime, they were gasping in wonder on the mountainous size of publicity extravaganza, the unending shopping sprees all over country (at Bank’s cost – hidden), the free - companion air travel tickets, lavish meetings, largesse distributed and so on. It is equally true in the last 28 months, the Bank pursued a declared policy to reduce the expenses on the premise – every rupee less expended is a gain of a rupee for the Bank.

• In the HR front, promotions in all grades were praiseworthy. Corp Bankers missed the promotion bus in 2013. The Government’s directive on the minimum requisite APAR marks brought with it a lot of uncertainty resulting in the postponement of the process which never took place. Though the Board attempted to review the APAR through Appeal process, it did not succeed. The promotions took place in the Bank in 2014 – we repeat – solely because of the initiatives taken by Sri S R Bansal – personally (Please refer our Circular No 16/2014 dt.30/04/2014). So was it in 2015.

• Second asset created by the Bank during the tenure was a recognizable addition to manpower through recruitment which the Bank badly needed. Though we cannot conclude the recruitment was sufficient or otherwise, the present leadership continued the initiative of the immediate previous year.

• Thirdly, a few long pending HR initiatives like CMD Club membership, Settlement of PLI entitlements, and Payment of Campaign rewards etc. were accomplished. Though the sanctity of conducting periodic – quarterly - Joint Meetings was lost (only 2 in 27 months), settlement of NSHL was a major and solitary bipartite gain. The Staff Welfare measures continued, though there was no scope for improvement.

• The Bank got capital infusion during the year from the Central Government. We may recall, Corporation Bank was not in the list of the Banks initially, the Government intended to infuse. But several factors worked and after hectic parleying, Corporation Bank secured Rs. 857 Crores of capital infusion. Not contended over it, the CMD parleyed with LIC too to secure Rs. 143 Crores, yet to reach logical end due to regulators’ and owner’s clearances.

• The issue of regularisation of the temporary sub-staff (including drivers) was another issue which was taken to the logical end with the Board approving the new process for the purpose (Of course, it could not yet materialise due to some other intervening issues). But the CMD played a vital role in convincing the owners, Directors and put an end to the uncertainties galore then.

At the end of it, it was an unbridgeable mismatch which has dented the image of the Bank- in the eyes of the banking public as also the controllers and owner. There are serious challenges ahead. The new leadership which will take over soon has to face the test of its nerves. The Corp Bankers, we are sure, will face the challenges ahead with the new dawn in February. Let us cherish the asset side created by the present leader, improve upon and write off the liabilities as they do not belong to us and will not yield anything to the Bank.

to protect this tree to continue to enjoy the fruits. He requested all officers to go through the book “CBOO : Inspiring Four Decades" – history of CBOO for the last 40 years - authored by Mr, T R Bhat, the former Chairman of Corporation Bank Officers’ Organisation. Social media is a powerful communication channel but not a substitute for active participation in trade union activities, he said. Posting a comment or a like, in social media alone cannot strengthen the Organisation; for that active participation and involvement of all our members in the activities of union are very much required, he stated. He urged the young officers to come forward and carry the mantle further ahead. He also commented on the uncertainties involved in the NPS (National Pension Scheme) and requested the new officers to join together to fight for replacing NPS with the old defined pension scheme.

B Sridhar, Deputy General Secretary while addressing stressed the need for membership development. He complimented all members for the militant trade union activities in Kerala. Zonal units of Kerala have always been a role model for other units, he said.

The Zonal General Body Meeting of Lucknow unit was held on 22nd November 2015 at Hotel Amber, Lucknow. General Secretary, Ekanath Baliga and Deputy General Secretary, Alok Paul were present as Central Office observers. Sri Nagaraj Udupa, DGM, was the Chief Guest.

The programme began with invocation by Ms. Smriti Tamta and Ms. Richa Srivastav.

R K Sharan, Zonal Secretary welcomed the gathering.

Sri Nagaraj udupa, Zonal Head and Deputy General Manager inaugurated the Conference by lighting the lamp.

Addressing the audience, he recalled his association with CBOO as a member as well as a functionary. “It is a privilege for me to be here as I get an opportunity to address a large section of officers at one place. We are all one. Management and the Organisation are partners in progress,” he said. “All is not well within the Bank. Stagnated growth, increasing NPAs have impaired our performance. Large scale retirement of experienced staff and lack of proper succession have impacted the growth of Bank. We feel belittled because of the not-so-good position of the Bank. But there is nothing to feel defeated. We have withstood several adversities in the past and we will win over this too. We have to work a little extra and toil a little more to re-emerge as No.1 again. We do measurable and non-measurable work. We have to fit into any type of work, whether operational or administrative. We must think and work and not work and then think. Avoid complacency during good times and avoid despondency during bad time”, he concluded.

ekanath Baliga, General Secretary placed before the audience, the financially tough situation the Bank is passing through. “It is not that the branches are not growing or are not contributing to the increase in business. But because, the Bank has taken a conscious decision to shed bulk portfolio – both in credit and liabilities, the increase in business is off set by the bulk reduction. But hiving off the bulk business is in the interest of the Bank in the long run. We have to collectively strive for further growth in business.

While Branches and Zonal Offices do not have much say or control in recovery of large borrowal account NPAs, there is a bounden duty on all of us to put extra efforts to reduce the existing small NPAs on the one side and not to allow fresh slippages on the other. Every officer must endeavor for this as the existence of the Bank is at stake due to ever increasing NPAs.

On the credit front too, the Bank has been emphasizing on retail advances to reduce the risk factors as we have already burnt our fingers by overdependence on bulk corporate advances. While lending is a must and without option, selection of right borrower, right activity and right process shall not be ignored under any circumstances. No

One's dignity may be assaulted and cruelly mocked; but cannot be taken away unless it is surrendered - Michael J Fox

Branch Head shall succumb to any external or internal pressure nor entertain any middlemen" he warned the members.

The National Pension Scheme (NPS) is fraught with voluminous risk as the officers are not sure of the pension they are likely to get at the time of retirement. In the event of market crises like the one that happened in the West, it may wipe out all the NPS funds overnight leaving nothing to the beneficiaries. There is a felt need to provide Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to the younger generation of officers which would increase the post superannuation social security measure.

He requested the members to attend the Triennial Conference scheduled in Mangalore in January 2016 in large numbers and make it a grand success.

More than 130 members attended the Zonal Conference.

Santhosh Kumar, Zonal Chairman proposed a vote of thanks.

In the business session that followed, the Zonal Secretary presented his report for the triennial which was approved by the delegates.

Alok paul, Deputy General Secretary in his address stressed on the relevance of trade union in the Bank. “The managerial tendency is to extract maximum work with least cost and it is at times atrocious. Collective efforts are the only solution. In this background, there is a need for the youngsters to take active part in the union activities. The benefits enjoyed by the members are those fought for and secured by collective action. We shall not allow external elements – whomsoever it be - to interfere in CBOO’s work and endeavours. CBOO can handle its matters by itself and internally. The only solution to this is to get all officers into the fold of CBOO”, he said.

Elections were held thereafter to constitute the new Zonal Team for the Triennial 2016 – 19. The following team was elected:

Zonal Chairman : Sharad dubey, Gayatrinagar

Zonal Secretary : Rana Keshav Sharan, Ganne Ka Purwa

ekanath Baliga, addressing the members, congratulated them for attending in such a large number despite being a Sunday. He explained about the position of the Bank, the need to strive for retail deposits and the retail credit, the adverse impact of NPAs on the financial position of the Bank and also the need to concentrate on recovery of the NPAs, especially in small borrowal account category.

It was 27th of November, 2015. It was our proud

monumental CBOO Centre. A galaxy of national

leaders from AIBOC, entire contingent of CBOO

EC, stalwarts of CBOO of yester years, host of

executives of our Bank, devout veterans of CBOO

and an ocean of members, invitees and guests – all

witnessed the emotional farewell given to Sri D N

Prakash, the tall leader of CBOO of our times. The

Centre was jam packed forcing several to satisfy

with a place to stand in the auditorium.

l 60 years of valued journey in life

l 38 years of service in the beloved Bank

l 28 years of uninterrupted leadership in CBOO

l 17 years of representation in AIBOC

l 5 years of active contributions in the Board as

an Officer Director

For the first time in the history of CBOO (or even any

other affiliate of AIBOC), both President and General

Secretary of All India Bank Officers’ Confederation

(AIBOC) were present in a programme to felicitate

the BIG LEADER of a SMALL AFFILIATE.

The programme began with invocation by Ms. Usha Krishnamurthy, PAD-HO.

G. Raghuraman, Vice President welcomed the

gathering. He recalled his association with DNP

and extended his good wishes to him and his family.

“DNP always used to participate in the deliberations

in AIBOC and he was an inspiration for all of us,”

said Mr. Y. Sudarshan, President, AIBOC and

General Secretary of All India State Bank Officers’

Federation beginning the felicitations. Recalling

his association, he stated, “DNP is one who will

FELICITATIONS TO THE TALL LEADER OF CBOO

always call a spade, a spade. He used to give

suggestions to the leadership which would be apt

and implementable. As a member of the Negotiating

Team of AIBOC during the Tenth Bipartite, he had

contributed immensely with good suggestions

which had helped to firm up AIBOC proposals.

For the past three decades he would have tired of

working, but now he will be tired of not working. It

is better to be 60 years old like DNP instead of 40

years young like us. “On behalf of entire officers’

community I wish you good health, peace and

prosperity” he extended his felicitations.

He also spoke on the issues before the banking

industry and officers’ community like the impact of

7th Pay Commission on the wage structure in the

industry as the revised pay recommended are without

any constraint on loading after DA merger. We have

to look into this aspect once the recommendations

are accepted by the Government and take a view,

he said. He also spoke on the efforts being made

by the Government to privatise the Public Sector

Banks starting from implementing some of the

recommendations of P J Nayak Committee, change

in norms for appointment of CMDs enabling private

sector candidates to appear, efforts to merge PSBs

and handover IDBI Bank to private corporates etc.

On the one side, the Government wants PSBs to

implement all its policies and programmes which

PSBs had done well and on the other, they are being

blamed for all ills of the economy, he lamented. He

called upon the officers to be united and support

the action programme that has been chalked out

by the AIBOC.

“I am honoured to be present here today. CBOO

though a tiny and small affiliate of AIBOC,

occupies top position in the Confederation”, said

Mr. Harvinder Singh, General Secretary, AIBOC

and General Secretary, Federation of Bank of

India Officers’ Associations. He gave a background

about the policies being implemented by the new

NDA Government at the centre. The Government

wants to demolish the public sector as the world

corporates want to enter the huge market available

in India. But the Public Sector is essential for a

country like ours. Government is trying to sabotage

the Public Sector Banks by making them starve of

capital. While the countries in the West where the

Banks are privately owned have not implemented

Basel-II norms, the Government is pushing for

implementation of Basel-III norms in our country

which will need huge capital, thus forcing PSBs to go

for private investments, he said. He also mentioned

about the pending residual issues before the IBA

and the decision of AIBOC Executive Committee to

go for one day strike on 11th December to force IBA

to come for a dialogue on the issues. He

Sri K. Venugopal, former General Secretary, CBOO

also mentioned about the non-implementation of

settlement by the DBOO Management which is

going to be one of the major issues for the strike.

He called upon the members to stand united and

make the action programme chalked out by AIBOC

a grand success.

“CBOO Centre stands as a testimony to the vision

of the leadership of CBOO like DNP. I always looked

towards DNP in the functioning of AIBOC. He is

an upright person and straight forward who will

make his point without mincing words, he stated.

Recalling contributions made by DNP and the

respect he commands from his colleagues, he said

that “even today in the Executive Committee when

a decision was eluding, it is he who said “we should

believe our President and General Secretary whom

we have elected to lead the Organisation” which

convinced the entire house to agree to the issue

before the house. "Not only your family, serving

employees too have a right on you. Bless us with

your suggestions and advices", he appealed to DNP.

Concluding he conveyed his good wishes to DNP

and family.

“I have spent the longest time with DNP among the

office bearers and he is an unforgettable companion

to me in my intellectual journey”, said T R Bhat,

former Chairman, CBOO extending his felicitations

to DNP. Trade Unions need to have ideologies

and ideologues. DNP is one who will influence

the framework for the union to work and will

always temper the decisions with his intellectual

acumen. Quoting the VRS agitation he said that

“under greatest stress and strain, he will keep his

composure. He also mentioned about the unique

quality of DNP to mimick the dialogue of the

Executives which used to enliven the mood after a

failed Joint Meeting. He is the last link in the earlier

generation of leadership which will be lost with

his retirement. He is meticulous in his work and

used to maintain time discipline. He recalled DNP’s

contribution as Office Director which was even

acknowledged by his fellow Directors. We have been

benefited by his contributions. His foresight and

intellectual calibre are a class apart, quoting the

incident on the 13th August 2007 Demonstration,

he stated. His concern for the people is also reflected

in his involvement in social activities. Concluding,

he wished DNP and his family a peaceful and active

retired life.

“DNP is the tallest leader of CBOO and a man with

genuine humility and unbelievable simplicity” said

K. Venugopal, former General Secretary, CBOO

extending his felicitations. DNP used to say “I had

motivated him in CBOO activities.” But I do not

know how much. But I can say definitely that he

earned his leadership by his own capacity. Power

and position had never gone to his head. The

vaccum which will be created on his retirement will

be difficult to fill. May God bless the next team to

lead CBOO in the days. I wish DNP and his family

all the best. May God bless him and his family with

His choicest blessings”, he concluded.

Sri T.R. Bhat, former Chairman, CBOO

4Officers’ Voice, January 2016 14

Sri Kaushik Ghosh, former General Secretary, CBOO

Sri Raghunath Kodical, former Vice President, CBOO

“DNP never speaks much. But he was always

supportive and had given me full freedom to work”

said Kaushik Kumar Ghosh, former General

Secretary recalling his experiences working with

DNP. When the Bank was facing serious challenges

internally during 2011-12, CBOO launched Save

Corporation Bank Campaign which got support

from rank and file. “For facing those challenges,

DNP gave full credit to me; but it was his greatness”,

he said. “You get courage and confidence when

someone is there with you. How long you have

worked is not important, how you have worked and

how much you have worked is more important.

“You stood shoulder to shoulder during the entire

campaign and I owe a debt of gratitude to you” he

said. He wished DNP and his family all the best.

“I am at loss of words. DNP is certainly a tall

and handsome leader of CBOO. His calibre and

contributions are equally tall and handsome”,

said Raghunath Kodical, former Vice President

speaking on the occasion. Speaking on the qualities,

“ DNP does a lot of research and writes with courage

and conviction”, he said. When T R Bhat retired,

everyone had a doubt in their minds about the

editorial in Officers’ Voice. But DNP put to rest

all those doubts and he had written a number of

excellent editorials. It is not an ordinary job. He

also brought the issues to the knowledge of public

by issuing a good number of press statements. He

is a master in negotiations and has a good presence

of mind, quoting the way settlement reached on

the issue of interest rate on NSHL he said. “We

are grateful to you. Your legacy will continue. I

am sure that young leaders will take a leaf from

your book and continue your work”, he stated. He

conveyed his best wishes to DNP and his family.

Harishchandra Bhat, a member from HO recalled

his experience of working under D N Prakash who

was Branch Manager of Madanthyar branch. He

has great respect for his colleagues and encourages

them, he said. He conveyed his good wishes to

DNP.

The representatives from All India State Bank of

India Officers’ Federation, Federation of Bank of

India Officers' Associations, Canara Bank Officers’

Association, Syndicate Bank Officers’ Association,

Vijaya Bank Officers’ Association, Dhanalakshmi

Bank Officers’ Organistion, Laxmi Vilas Bank

Officers’ Association and Catholic Syrian Bank

Officers’ Association etc. were among those who

felicitated DNP.

General Secretary, Ekanath Baliga extended his

felicitations on behalf of the entire membership

of CBOO. He recalled his association with DNP

since 1997-1998. Prakash had been the source of

inspiration for us. I had received his guidance and

advice during the last three years in discharge of

my responsibilities as General Secretary. Though

he will retire from Bank, he will not from CBOO.”

“Any publication from CBOO is incomplete without

the touch of DNP. His skill in compilation of data

and its analysis is par excellence.” He wished DNP

Officers’ Voice, January 2016 15

and his family all the best. He also read out the

citation to be presented to DNP.

Thereafter, DNP and his wife, Mrs. Jyothy were

invited to receive felicitations on behalf of CBOO.

He was presented with a shawl, Mysore Peta

(honorary head gear) elaichi garland, fruit basket,

citation and a memento. Mrs. Jyothy was presented

with a memento.

“ I am overwhelmed by the love and affection shown

towards me. What more can I expect when I am

being felicitated in the presence of both President

and General Secretary of AIBOC, my family

members, my sisters and the stalwarts of CBOO at

the CBOO Centre, which I had the fortune of giving

a shape to along with Mr. Gourangadas, former

Vice President”, he said replying to the felicitations.

He took a trip down the memory lane and narrated

the events and people that were part of his three

decade long journey in CBOO.

He remembered the days he joined BPDD, HO in

1982 and then ongoing agitation by CBOO which

was asserting to establish as a trade union of officers.

He recalled the activities undertaken by then young

General Secretary, T R Bhat and firebrand leaders

like K Venugopal and M. Gouragadas. He compared

the facilities that were available then (virtually nil)

and today when the officers are enjoying the best

of the facilities in the industry. “All these were

made possible due to the support and sacrifices of

the members and the leadership” he reminded the

younger generation members.

Referring to the observations that he was being

very cool, he said that he too had anxieties and fear

which, probably he could contain within. Quoting

the VRS agitation which was the first challenge faced

by him as General Secretary, he said that it tested

his mental and physical skills. The victimisation of

members and second line leadership by a ruthless

Management had posed serious challenges which

could be overcome only over a period of time. It had

also enabled to learn a few lessons in industrial

relations, he said.

Over the past three decades we could achieve a lot of

things and all these were made possible due to the sacrifices by a large number of members and activists who are the unsung heroes of our movement. I salute them at this juncture who sacrificed their present for the betterment of future generation. It is the duty of every member to remember the

legacy and take it forward, he stated. He called

upon the younger generation to actively participate

in the trade union activities as the Managements

are becoming more and more autocratic. You have

to involve in organisational activities in your own

interests failing which your rights and privileges

would be at stake, he reminded.

Whatever little I could do was possible due to the

support and encouragement received from senior

colleagues and also from peers in the Executive

Committee. I am grateful to all of them, he

acknowledged.

It would not have been possible for me to play my

role effectively, but for the support extended by wife,

Mrs. Jyothy and my children, Varsha and Vaishakh

who never complained about my absence at home

as they knew what I was doing for CBOO”, he said.

“As someone said, I too would have climbed up

the position and perhaps would have reached the

top. But the promotions are no match for the love,

affection and recognition I received from thousands

of members across the country. I thank each and

every member for their love and affection. I am

indebted to all of you.

Retirement is a part of a legal contract of service.

But I cannot retire from Corporation Bank or CBOO

which would remain in my hearts. You can count

upon my services at any time, he concluded.

Bank is amidst a crisis situation. Put in your extra

efforts for the growth of the Bank and in your own

interest. Without “CB”, there cannot be a “CBOO”.

“Once again thank you all for the felicitations and

good wishes”, he concluded

The entire audience stood up in standing ovation

at the end of the function in an expression of most

sincere and adoring sense of gratitude.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks

proposed by Anil Pahwa, Vice President.

The programme was well compered by Ms. Sandhya.

GREETINGS FROM WELLWISHERS, MEMBERS AND RETIRED MEMBERS

( A few of the greetings only are reproduced below for want of space. – Editor)

Dear Sri Baliga,

Thank you for the invitation to join you at the felicitation function of D N PRAKASH on 27th of this month.

I had the pleasure of knowing Sri Prakash since my days in Corporation Bank during the years 2001-2004. As Executive Director of your Bank, I used to receive Sri T R Bhat and Sri D N Prakash along with other office bearers of CBOO quite often in my chamber. I vividly remember him as a soft-spoken, amiable, cogent and articulate gentleman. I am aware of his immense contribution to the progress of Corporation Bank as well as CBOO. Whenever I think of those days, I recall with great admiration the nice work culture of Corporation Bank which I am convinced is a product of conscious sacrifices, genuine endeavours for education and dedication and involvement of all the employees, officers and the Management.

I convey my very sincere greetings and best wishes to Sri D. N. Prakash on his superannuation. I am sure that he must be leaving the Bank as a very satisfied person. I also hope that his association with banking industry and the CBOO would continue even after his retirement.

- Sri p K gupta, former CMd, united Bank of India and

former executive director, Corporation Bank

Dear Prakash,

On your retirement from the Bank’s service on 30th November 2015, I am sure you can look back on your long service with a sense of pride and satisfaction.

I was deeply impressed by your commitment and how you refused to compromise on any matter that was not in the interest of the Bank. I know of many instances where you stood boldly on principles and held on to these principles as you were convinced that it was in the best interest of the Bank. I always admired the straightforward approach you adopted at all times.

As you lay down your office, I would like to state my appreciation for the dedication and commitment shown by you during your long career.

I wish you and your family good health, happiness and prosperity in the years ahead.

- Sri Sajeev Krishnan, Chief general Manager, State Bank of Mysore

and former CVo, Corporation Bank

Dear Prakashji,

I am in receipt of invitation from CBOO on the occasion of felicitating you on superannuation.

Though I will not be able to attend the function, my good wishes are always with you.

I will always cherish the excellent time I had with you on the Board of Corporation Bank.

- Sri S. Ravi, Chartered Accountant and

former director, Corporation Bank

Dear DNP,

Wish you Happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful retired life. Thanks for all your support and guidance to the Corporation Bank officers’ community. I hope you will continue to guide the CBOO.

Dear Mr. Prakash,

You are one of those whom I always admired for the strength of character, commitment to the cause dear to your heart and the pleasant nature.

Officers’ Voice, January 2016 24

Dear Mr. Baliga,

Thank you for the invitation.

I am always emotionally attached to our Corporation Bank Officers’ Organisation from the very beginning. I also know the personal sacrifices Mr. DNP has made for the growth of CBOO and also for the welfare of the officers’ community. A true and simple leader, who is always approachable for the members. It is going to be a great loss to CBOO as well as the officers in Corp Bank, when he reitres on 30th November.

Please convey my good wishes for a happy, healthy retired life to our DNP.

I am sure CBOO will solicit his guidance, support, advice in future to tide over any crises that may arise.

- N B Kulasekaran, former general Manager,

Corporation Bank

On the eve of superannuation of DNP, my heartiest felicitations and best wishes. His dedication and commitment for officers’ cause will ever be cherished. My long association with him has been warmth for a cause. I wish a greater contribution from him to the society in the future.

- dr. p V Subba Reddy, former Vice president, CBoo

Dear Sri Prakash,

I learn that you are retiring from the services of the Bank on 30th November on superannuation after three decade long illustrious service and unassailable leadership of officers’ union. The Bank and the officers’ fraternity in our Bank have reaped rich benefits from the services rendered by you.

I wish you a very happy, healthy, wealthy, contended and peaceful retired life. I pray Almighty to shower His choicest blessings on your family.

- Sri A K Vinod, deputy general Manager and Zonal Head, Bangalore-North

Dear Prakash,

Yesterday I attended your felicitation function at CBOO Centre. I have not seen such a big gathering in CBOO Centre to give a warm farewell to our great leader, DNP. It shows you are one of the personalities which toiled for the Organisation and CBOO is built up by sincere and dedicated people like TRB, DNP, Gourangadas, Kaushik, Baliga, Raguraman, Late Sadananan and many others.

I have seen you working on different occasions. Even though you were occupying the highest post, you were always simple and approachable to each and every member. You supported many officers to solve their problems and remained cool when the issues taken up with the Management were getting hot. Though you faced tough times during Mr. Sambamurthy, Mr. Garg and Mr. Ramnath Pradeep, your bold decisions saved the Bank.

I pray Lord Venkatramana and wish you and your family members all the best, good health and prosperity in the days ahead.

- Sri M M Kini,retired member

On the occasion of your retirement, I can’t help, but express my honest feeling that your long, selfless, dedicated service for the good of the officers' community at large will certainly go a long way in bringing in happiness, peace, sound health and glory to you and your family in the years to come.

- Sri K Suresh upadhyaya, retired member

Good Morning DNP,

Need to deny myself the pleasure of being with you on the eve of your retirement from Bank. Trade Unionist and a gentleman like you do retire only from the Bank. They continue to remain in our hearts for ever. You could have risen to any level in the heirarchy in the Bank ; but sacrificed your career for us. More importantly, you continued to remain the same Prakash throughout. May God bless you and your family.

felicitating them. Thereafter, Mr. D. N. Prakash and Mr. H.S. Vishwanath were felicitated. Mr. M. gaurangadas spoke about his long association with both these stalwarts.

Contd.. from page 10..

“Retirement is a contractual date which is known to everyone. Both Bank and CBOO will remain in my heart and I will not be retiring from CBOO. We have to fight for getting Pension again. We will succeed. Our next generation must get this benefit” said d. N. prakash in reply to his felicitations. He thanked the Bangalore units for having invited him and felicitated even after retirement.

H.S. Vishwanath was at his eloquent best when he said, “One joy caters to everybody’s grief. Many things which you people have not been able to convey could be conveyed by me through cartoons. I was one of the top 10 cartoonists of Karnataka. DNP and K Venugopal – hence CBOO – have helped me to rejuvenate my cartoons. Any anguish in me gets an expression through cartoons. What goes on within the officers is vented by me through the cartoons." He concluded saying, “CBOO has identified me for what I am. I will pursue my inward journey to know the meaning of life.”

The Inaugural Session concluded with the Chairman Mr. Narayanmurthy addressing the members and Vote of Thanks by Mr. Rudra Setty. More than 200 members and retirees attended the conference.

In the business session that followed, the Zonal Secretary’s reports were read by Mrs. B.Swarnageetha and Mr. Rudra Setty for their respective zones. The reports were adopted by both the zones. S Ramachandrappa, Joint General Secretary addressed the members. He called upon everybody to utilize the Saturday off which was fought and got by all. “Calling the officers on these Saturdays to Bank for work is totally incorrect and retrograde”, he said. Members raised a few querries on the branch premises, CBS problems and connectivity problems at branches in the outskirts of the city etc.

Thereafter the new Zonal Committees for both the Zones were formed.

THANe

The Zonal Consultative Committee Meeting for the quarter ended December, 2015 was held on 05.12.2015. Sri Uday Khade, Circle Secretary, Sri Atul Kumar, Zonal Chairman and Sri P. Raghunath, Zonal Secretary, represented CBOO. The Management Team consisted of Sri K. Ramachandran, DGM and Zonal Head, Sri R. Anand, AGM and Dy Zonal Head and Ms Amita, Asst Manager (Personnel).

Sri R. Anand, Dy Zonal Head, welcomed the CBOO representatives and observed that branches need to invariably print R.D. and Exceptional Transactions Reports on daily basis and the Branch Heads need to scrutinize these Reports. Security aspects like locking of the Strong Room Grill etc. need to be addressed; customer grievances must also be addressed, he said.

Sri K. Ramachandran, Zonal Head, observed that although there was some business growth as evidenced by the upgradation of a few branches, CASA and NPA remained a cause of concern. Retail Loan portfolio, especially Housing Loans needs to be focused by the branches. Observing that we had good tech products to offer, he sought the participation of the field level staff to create awareness about them among the clientele which would help in moving the customers to alternate delivery channels.

Responding, CBOO representatives stated that as always there would be the fullest support in addressing corporate concerns and business initiatives and requested:

a) Provision of sufficient manpower at the branches to enable realization of business objectives as well as to mitigate the leave sanction issues (especially single officer branches).

b) Necessary guidance and support to the youngsters with least experience who have been posted as Branch Heads.

Ms Amita, Asst. Manager, proposed the Vote of Thanks.

RBI nod must for investors picking up more than 5% stake in a private bank

In a bid to have greater scrutiny over banking ownership, the RBI said that new investors who buy over 5% shares or convertible debt of a private sector bank will have to get the central bank’s approval. Existing promoters will also have to take the RBI’s approval if they intend to increase their holding to beyond 10% in the Bank. The RBI also said that all shareholders having 5% or more of the paid-up share capital of a bank would have to give an annual declaration on their ‘fit and proper’ status within one month of the close of the financial year.

RRBs will now have to lend more to priority sectors

RBI has liberalized the amounts the RRBs can lend to segments, such as agriculture and also included medium enterprises, social infrastructure and renewable energy under the PSL category. The RBI said 75% of RRB’s outstanding advances – as against 60% now- should be for PSL, which also includes loans to MSME, weaker sections, housing and education. The PSL norms have been revised

considering the growing significance of RRBs in bringing about financial inclusion, it added. Among the significant revision in the PSL norms are: upping of the limit on loans to individual farmers to Rs.50 lakh from Rs.10 lakh against pledging / hypothecation of agricultural produce (including warehouse receipts) for a period not exceeding 12 months and doubling the aggregate limit to Rs.2 crore per borrower in the case of loans to, among others, corporate farmers, producer organsiations / companies of individual farmers and partnership firms / co-operatives engaged in agriculture and allied activities.
