The retelling of The Lorax There was once a man called the Once-Ler who had a dream and that was to make thneeds. He would make millions of them and be rich. However, there was one creature who could stop him and that was the Lorax – he spoke for the trees. He protected them and guarded them. One day this all changed as the Once-Ler tried to sell his thneed to the people in the town, but it seemed that not many people were interested. Down hearted, the Once-Ler returned to the Lorax. “So how did it go? Did you sell any thneeds?” asked the Lorax The Once-Ler sighed and looked down. “Not really.” he replied quietly avoiding the Lorax’s stare. “It’s alright. Money’s not everything, you know. You tried.” Said the Lorax patting the Once-Ler on the shoulder. “I guess I’ll just have to go home and try something else.” Mumbled the Once-Ler. Suddenly, in the distance coming closer into view, were a huge crowd of people, like a herd of elephants charging down the hill towards them with huge smiles on their faces looking extremely excited about something. The Once-Ler’s eyes widened. He could not believe it. One of the women was wearing his thneed that he had sold her just that morning. As the crowd reached them, they were holding out their money and yelling all at once at the Once-Ler. They were shouting “I want a thneed!” The Once-Ler’s confusion suddenly turned to joy and excitement. His dream was finally coming true! Just then, he screamed at the crowd, “I will make you all thneeds! Thneeds for everybody!” The crowd erupted with an almighty cheer as they handed their money over to this genius. After many hours, the people returned to their homes and all that was left to do was to get to work making thneeds. The Once-Ler knew he would need the Truffula trees and more help. With one phone call to his mother, his family descended down the hill and the destruction of the Truffula trees began. One after the other they fell and one after the other the animals left. With no choice, they left their once beautiful and peaceful home which was now filled with toxic, poisonous air and polluted waters. The Swommee swans, the Barbaloots and the Humming fish fled not knowing where their new home would be. With his destructive machines and with only greed in his heart, he hacked away until finally one last Truffula tree stood. With no care, his axe sliced through the trunk. Nothing now stood. The land was bare, destroyed and ruined for good. There were no more thneeds to be made. No more work to be done and no more money to be made. With this, the Once-Ler’s family left and all that was left was the bad smelling air, the Lorax and the Once-Ler. The Lorax looked at the Once-Ler but said nothing. His face said it all. He simply lifted himself by the seat of his pants through a hole in the smog and was never seen again. All that the Lorax had left was a small pile of rocks with the word UNLESS.

The retelling of The Lorax

There was once a man called the Once-Ler who had a dream and that was to make thneeds. He

would make millions of them and be rich. However, there was one creature who could stop

him and that was the Lorax – he spoke for the trees. He protected them and guarded them.

One day this all changed as the Once-Ler tried to sell his thneed to the people in the town, but

it seemed that not many people were interested. Down hearted, the Once-Ler returned to the

Lorax.

“So how did it go? Did you sell any thneeds?” asked the Lorax

The Once-Ler sighed and looked down. “Not really.” he replied quietly avoiding the Lorax’s

stare.

“It’s alright. Money’s not everything, you know. You tried.” Said the Lorax patting the Once-Ler

on the shoulder.

“I guess I’ll just have to go home and try something else.” Mumbled the Once-Ler.

Suddenly, in the distance coming closer into view, were a huge crowd of people, like a herd of

elephants charging down the hill towards them with huge smiles on their faces looking

extremely excited about something. The Once-Ler’s eyes widened. He could not believe it. One

of the women was wearing his thneed that he had sold her just that morning. As the crowd

reached them, they were holding out their money and yelling all at once at the Once-Ler. They

were shouting “I want a thneed!”

The Once-Ler’s confusion suddenly turned to joy and excitement. His dream was finally coming

true! Just then, he screamed at the crowd, “I will make you all thneeds! Thneeds for

everybody!” The crowd erupted with an almighty cheer as they handed their money over to

this genius.

After many hours, the people returned to their homes and all that was left to do was to get to

work making thneeds. The Once-Ler knew he would need the Truffula trees and more help.

With one phone call to his mother, his family descended down the hill and the destruction of

the Truffula trees began. One after the other they fell and one after the other the animals left.

With no choice, they left their once beautiful and peaceful home which was now filled with

toxic, poisonous air and polluted waters. The Swommee swans, the Barbaloots and the

Humming fish fled not knowing where their new home would be.

With his destructive machines and with only greed in his heart, he hacked away until finally

one last Truffula tree stood. With no care, his axe sliced through the trunk. Nothing now stood.

The land was bare, destroyed and ruined for good. There were no more thneeds to be made.

No more work to be done and no more money to be made. With this, the Once-Ler’s family left

and all that was left was the bad smelling air, the Lorax and the Once-Ler.

The Lorax looked at the Once-Ler but said nothing. His face said it all. He simply lifted himself

by the seat of his pants through a hole in the smog and was never seen again.

All that the Lorax had left was a small pile of rocks with the word UNLESS.
