Introduction

The institution assesses the learning levels of the students, after admission and organizes special Programs for advanced learners and slow learners

When new batch in inducted, orientation is conducted for 20 days. During that period, various activities are scheduled which gives an idea to new student Managers about the course and their preparedness for the same.

A business exercise activity is conducted during that period to identify slow learners

and advance learners.

Based on student's participation and performance in various events and the evaluation of activities, students are identified as advanced learners and slow learners. For slow learners we conduct remedial classes, SAMARTH sessions value added classes on need basis like Basics of Excel, Economics, Statistics etc.

For advanced learners we motivate them for certification courses and competitions, give bonus points. This helps them in academic progression and disposition.

The students’ participation in these activities ensure the skill development and student achievements reinforce the success of these programs and efforts undertaken by the institute.

Name: Business Exercise

Dates: 10th to 14th June

2019 About:

Under this activity, a pair of student managers were supposed to go out of the campus

for a day and find a job for few hours. It can vary from restaurants to shops or even

companies based upon the capabilities of the students to convince the owner of the

enterprise. Student managers were either expect to earn some money or experience

letter from the employer whichever suits the employer most.

Purpose:

The main purpose of the activity is to break the ice of student managers to convince or

communicate with people outside their comfort zone. This activity builds confidence

of student managers and enhances their communication skills.

The activity is directly mentored by the Director and post the activity, he evaluates the

final presentation of all the student managers personally. Based on their presentations

and assessing performance students are divided into categories of ‘Advanced learners’

and ‘Weak learners’. Further plans are prepared to groom ‘weak learners’ and further

develop ‘advanced learners’.

Few Glimpses of the Exercise

Post activity, Students are evaluated and accordingly categorized as Slow learners , Average and Advance Learners. Please find below the evaluation sheets for your reference. Class average is considered for deciding the categories;

• Above Class average are Advance learners

• Below Class average are Slow learners

International cell SIMS provides the students with a platform to travel and seek to learn through different Summer school programs.

The Summer School program offers modules under each specialisation. Students can opt for the subjects of their interest and apply for the Summer school program through the mentor faculty for International cell.

Procedure for applying for Summer school program:

i. Mentor Faculty floats the details of Summer school in the month of January. Students to go through the detailed list of summer schools with the courses available.

ii. It is important that students keep checking the Summer School website for admission status, and fill the application form and make the necessary payments as soon as the link is open for application. This is essential as many summer schools have limited number of seats which are allotted on first come-first served basis.

iii. Once the students gets the confirmation of admission from the host university, it is mandatory to send SIMS the nomination in the attached format. This is important for ensuring the transfer of Credits.

iv. SIMS would then contact SCIE and will send the total list of students to the respective Summer School. This enables Partner University to offer services like pick up, and also to send collective Grade sheets at the end of summer school.

v. In case students are planning to participate in any other Summer Schools than the attached programs, it is important that the Director/Head and the International mentor faculty is informed and the institute sends the information to SCIE as early as possible. Please note credits will not be transferred in case students do not inform the Institute.

It is compulsory to award upto 4 credits against any course of the semester in which the student undertakes the Summer School. Please

consider the duration of the course before allotting SIU credits.

The summer school should be treated as an academic program where credits are being transferred, otherwise the seriousness of the

summer school is lost.

Semester Exchange:

Leeds Beckett University

This is a Semester exchange program. The student will take the entire Semester 4 at LBU. The process remains the same like Summer

school for applying for the Semester exchange.

Please note it is compulsory to award upto 16 credits against any course of the semester in which the student undertakes the Semester Exchange program. Please consider the duration of the course before allotting SIU credits. The Semester exchange program should be treated as an academic program where credits are being transferred, otherwise the seriousness of the Semester exchange program is lost.

GIP Scholarship policy for Students Exchange Programmes

SEMESTER EXCHANGE PRGRAME

❖ GIP Tuition Fees waiver & mess fee waiver (Academic Excellence)

❖ SIU scholarship (1000 USD) & mess fee waiver (Not more than 6000 USD per annum)

1) This policy does not cover the following categories:-

SIU.

✓ Have obtained more than 7 CGPA/GPA out of 10 in the previous semester.

✓ Have good conduct and be seen as deserving by the Institute.

4) Selection Process- Students Exchange Programme

In order to be considered for a Symbiosis GIP Scholarship, the application must be submitted to Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCRE). All the applications received by SCIE will be verified and evaluated by a selection committee and the

shortlisted students will be informed accordingly. The constitution of this selection committee will be as follows: Executive Director, SCIE or her nominee

Dean —Academics & Administration, Head Academics — SIU, Two Directors of Constituents/Departments of SIU, (any two of them)

One Executive from SCIE — Member Secretary

The committee will be constituted for each selection process by SCIE

Students who have submitted incomplete documents and/or have invalid passports will not be considered for the scholarship.

Brand Ambassador Program

The Brand Ambassador Programme of Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies is an initiative to encourage students to participate in business school

competitions. Business school competitions are organized by top B schools which rank in Tier 1 and Tier 2. Competitions are also organized by various

corporates. This gives a platform to students to apply their practical knowledge and test their skills in different disciplines of Management. The different

disciplines include Finance, Marketing, Human Resource and Operations. The competitions could also require interdisciplinary approach. The initiative is

open to all the students. Students participate in competitions across the country and those winning multiple competitions are conferred with the title of

“SIMS Brand Ambassador” by the Director. This is in recognition of the achievement of students. All students winning various competitions have a chance

to meet the Director over coffee and are also awarded prize money to recognize their efforts.

Process:

The students register for different B School competitions through various online platforms as well as the mails received from different institutions. Once

they have cleared the first round, the institute provides permission to students to participate in off campus rounds. The students are provided guidance by

faculty and industry experts to prepare for the competitions. The institute provides official leave as well as reimburses travel, stay and food expenses of

the students anywhere in India. On winning, compliments are sent by Director and their achievements are recognized. The achievements are also posted

on different social media platforms. The students are free to participate as individuals or in teams. This is applicable to both 1 st and 2 nd year students

Students have won competitions at the following top institutions of India in the past: IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM

Vishakhapatnam, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Kozhikode, NMIMS, Delhi School of Economics, SIBM, Great Lakes, IMT and many more.

SAMARTH SESSION-Sample Report Date:09/08/2019

Key points of the session: Samarth session of 9th august, 2019 was conducted by Mrs. Poonam Bhandari, who was very enthusiastic while conducting the session and encouraged the student managers to have fun during the session.

Subject: verbal and non-verbal communication Task:

• Group consisting of 4 members were to be made.

• Members were supposed to discuss about common qualities and unique qualities they all possess.

• Present the discussion in front of the class.

• Other groups to evaluate their performance.

A very interesting session where students who participated got to know about each other. It was a very productive session as the other groups were given a task of evaluating their peers who presented; thus, it gave them an opportunity to understand and not repeat their drawbacks while get inspired by their positive attributes. Sufficient amount of feedbacks were given to the student managers to improve their verbal as well as non-verbal skills.
