Introduction:Hameed Latif Hospital is a 350 bedded tertiary care and post graduate teaching hospital in Lahore, Pakistan.

The hospital provides 24 hours emergency services which

are backed up by 14 state of the art Operation Theaters, 02

Angioplasty and Angiography Units, Delivery Rooms, Medical

ICU’s, Neonatal ICU’s and well-equipped clinical indoor &

outdoor departments. The diagnostic department provide

24 hour services for all clinical departments. Obstetrics &

Gynae and Pediatrics have been our flagship departments

for many years but now many new specialities including

Cardiac Surgery, Neurosurgery, Angioplasty, Angiography

and Neuro & Peripheral intervention, Orthopaedic Surgery,

Urology, Plastic Surgery, Cosmetology, ENT, Ophthalmology,

Neurology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology,

Nephrology & Dialysis, Lithotripsy, Laparoscopic Surgery and

Thoracic Surgery are all being provided for admitted cases.

The hospital has a well-equipped blood bank and Diagnostic

facilities. Hospital Diagnostic facilities like Laboratory and

Chairman’sMessage

Hameed Latif Hospital was founded in 1992 as a small 20

bed hospital to provide maternity services mainly to the

middle class. Since then, thanks to the endeavors of the

management and support of consultants, it has grown

into a major 350 bed facility catering for all specialties – a

creditable ten fold growth achieved in a span of 25 years.

Healthcare is primarily the responsibility of the state.

Government is required to provide free healthcare to the

populace, irrespective of social status. Unfortunately,

because of the paucity of funds, this has not been possible.

At present government has allocated and is spending

sizable sums of money on developing major teaching

hospital, but the demand far outstrips the provision. This

has opened the way for the private sector to step in and

set up hospital facilities at all levels – tertiary, secondary

and primary. These private sector initiatives to provide the

needy with necessary medical services and facilities are to

be lauded.

Hameed Latif Hospital enjoys a unique status, it is located

in the city center for easy accessibility and provides

services in all major specialties, namely Maternity, Gynae,

Paeds, General Surgery and Internal Medicine. With fully

equipped ICU and CCU facilities it provides excellent care

to emergency patients. Other valuable services include

Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Neurology, Neuro Surgery,

Medical Oncology, Orthopedic, plastic surgery and intensive

neonatal care.

With continued support of the Board of Management, I am

sure, the hospital will continue to expand and in the near

future create other specialties to provide healthcare in areas

which are generally lacking in the country i.e. Liver Transplant

and kidney transplant Surgery.

Orthopedics has been added

2nd floor of the new multi-story

tower is the new Department

of Orthopedics. All types of

fractures, road traffic accidents,

ruptured muscles and ligaments

are treated in the Orthopaedic

Minimally Invasive Gynae. Unit(MIGSU)

MIGSU (Minimally Invasive Gynecological

Surgery Unit) situated in Hameed Latif Hospital,

Lahore-Pakistan. It’s the first of its kind unit,

exclusively for minimal invasive Gynecological

surgeries. The facility has dedicated state-of-

the-art Operation Theater, custom designed for

Endoscopic surgery with the latest equipment.

The first diagnostic Laparoscopy was done in

1974 in Pakistan by Prof. Rashid Latif Khan,

since then he has been a pioneer of teaching

and promoting laparoscopy. MIGSU was his

brain child and was formed in 2009, under the

leadership of Prof. Rashid Latif Khan. The team

has evolved since then with all the Master

Trainers being trained locally and internationally.

Since then, we have taken care of nearly three

thousand patients.

On the 5th floor is the 20 bed, multi-disciplinary intensive

care unit (ICU), perhaps the finest facility of its type in the

provincial capital. It is managed by a senior registrar with

a team of specialists and nurses especially trained to look

after patients requiring acute care, round the clock.

At Hameed Latif MICU, the nursing ratio of 1:2, i.e. one nurse

for every two patients is on a par with the world standard

for critical care units. And being multidisciplinary the Unit

is equipped to handle patients from various specialties in

which consultants work closely with residents to ensure

best possible care for the patient.

Every one of the 20 beds is fitted exclusively with a bedside

cardiac monitor, central oxygen supply, IV lines and pumps

and other specialized, highly advanced electronic monitoring

equipment. The ICU is designed and equipped to handle both

non-invasive and intensive respiratory support for patients

needing it, including new advanced ventilators and arterial

blood gas machine for better assessment of patients on

ventilator support.

A special area has been built in to the design to facilitate

emergency surgical intervention and resuscitation of trauma

patients.

The department of Anaesthesia comprises of a group of Consultant Anesthesiologists of Lahore. The group was formed by late Professor Sajid Usman Kaul in 1994 with the ambition of providing high standard and quality of anaesthesia. The group is now named as “KAUL ASSOCIATES” after the demise of Prof Kaul. Presently the department is providing total care to patients that includes pre-operative assessment, intra-operative care and post-operative care. Serious patients are managed by the department in Surgical Intensive care unit. Epidural services for labour pains are provided round the clock.PAIN CENTER: It is a part of anaesthesia department. Patients suffering from chronic painful conditions like headache, backache, and cancer pain are provided pain relief services by well-trained pain consultants. The department is recognised by College of Physicians &

Surgeons Pakistan for FCPS Anaesthesiology training. So far more than fifty doctors have done FCPS and are working as consultants in Pakistan and abroad. The standard of training in anaesthesiology is considered as one of the best in Pakistan.

Nephrology and Dialysis

The Nephrology Department at Hameed Latif Hospital is run by highly trained specialists who possess the expertise and advanced skills to treat all diseases related to the kidney. Ablation, of peripheral arteries, first time in Pakistan for very

difficult and diffuse disease in diabetic patients. Dr. Athar

Ansari and his team from California bring their equipment

was shifted to CCU and discharged in stable condition.

An unbooked patient, 34 years old, arrived in labour room on

13th February 2019 at 02:30pm from a city 2 hour away from

Lahore with reputed water bag since 07:00am at 35 weeks,

she was admitted in Hameed Latif Hospital under care of Dr.

Arooba Rahim and seen by Dr. Mariam Iqbal (Rashid Latif

Group Team). She had previous H/O untreated Rheunatic

heart disease (Severe mitral stenosis). She had conceived

for the first time after 10 years of marriage. On arrival she

had pulse of 122 beats per minute. With blood pressure

of 100/60 mmHg. On examination patient was breathless

& pale with Hemoglobin of 7.6g/dl & was fully dilated.

Cardiologist Dr. Junain Zafar saw patient within twenty

minutes of arrival & advised treatment. Patient delivered

baby by normal vaginal delivery at 03:30pm & had a 1.5 kg

baby who was received senior pediatrician. Post-delivery

patient remained well & was given treatment according to

guidance of in house cardiologist. Patient & baby went home

in good condition next day & advised Cardiac Surgery after

6 weeks of delivery.

The most obese child in the world who weights almost 200

KG at just ten years of age had a successful weight loss

Hameed Latif Hospital saved life of a baby who was only

900 grams at the time of birth with very critical condition

and discharged at 1.18 kg with stable condition.

Baby of Javeria Khurram, born at 27th Weeks Gestation Male

Weighing 900 grams at birth , through Emergency LSCS

due to PROM and meconium stained liquor. Baby needed

resuscitation at birth and was intubated …. And shifted to

NICU and connected to Mechanical ventilator. He was given

surfactant initially, remained on ventilator for prolonged

period due to poor respiratory effort & multiple apneas. He

also developed pneumothorax during his stay in NICU for

which chest tube intubation was done. Baby also developed

grade 3 intra ventricular hemorrhage, and sepsis. Due to

prolonged ventilation, he developed broncho-pulmonary

dysplasia / O2 dependency and retinopathy of Prematurity.

At 44 days of life baby was extubated and shifted to CPAP.

After a hard struggle of 55 days, he was successfully

discharged on oxygen therapy with weight of 1.18kg.. Baby

was given inj. Lucantis for treatment of retinopathy by Dr

Fawad ( ophthalmologist) after which his eyes examination

remained / became normal The baby remained on regular

follow-up, became O2 free at 3 months of age and gained

weight of 2.2kg Alhamdulillah.

problems. Recently, a patient namely Nikab Khan resident

of Dir, KPK who had developed post traumatic carotid

cavernous fistula on both sides of the brain. Prior to

Rashid Latif Medical Complex comprises of multiple

institutions related to healthcare. The beginning of the

complex was made through establishment of Rashid

Latif Medical College affiliated with University of Health

Sciences in 2010. First Batch of 100 students for MBBS was

established in a large area comprising 28 acres and has own

campus teaching hospital of 600 plus beds comprising all

major specialties and can rightfully having one of the best

faculty in Lahore.

Arif Memorial Hospital is a purpose built hospital and provides

much needed health comprehensive to the surrounding

population in all major disciplines. The hospital has OPD,

Diagnostic, inpatient and Treatment facilities and 24 hours

emergency. Arif Memorial Hospital is also recognized by

CPSP for post-graduate training in the field of Surgery.

Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and

Ophthalmology. Arif Memorial Hospital is an ISO 9001:2008

certified Hospital which is in its 9 year of Operations. Built on

28 acres on Ferozpur Road, Lahore.

In 2014, Rashid Latif College of Pharmacy was established

and was affiliated with University of Sargodha. The College

of Pharmacy admits 50 students per year and has all the

required facilities including various laboratories and lecture

theaters etc. School of Allied Health Sciences approved by

Punjab Medical Faculty and admits students per year.

In 2011, Rashid Latif Nursing College was established and

was affiliated with Pakistan Nursing Council. The College of

Nursing admits 50 students per year. In 2013, Rashid Latif

College of Physiotherapy was established and was affiliated

with University of Health Sciences.

The College of Physiotherapy admits 60 students per year

and has all the required facilities.

Rashid Latif Dental College was established in 2018

affiliated with University of Health Sciences. 50 students will

be admitted in BDS for the year 2018-19.
