It is a record of all the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities organized by the various clubs of our College. It also encapsulates the participation of the students in various activities at the university, state and national level. It enlists the accomplishments of the Faculty members in their own areas of interest. It gives me immense pleasure to announce the release of ‘SPECTRUM-The Bulletin 2013-14’.

It gives me great pleasure to present, “Spectrum – The Bulletin 2013-14”, as a pictogram of measuring progress of our students. It provides a panoramic view of the academics, sports, cultural and literary activities & achievements of the college during the academic year 2013-14. I feel gratified to express that readers would be enthused to turn each page of the Spectrum with curiosity as it is a rich reservoir of talent, creativity and imagination. So let the hues flow….

It feels glad to assist the team to pen down the material in the bulletin and present the readers a glimpse of the entire year. 1 College Activities

C.A. Press Conference

On 14th June, 2013 a press conference was organized in the college conference hall at 6:00 p.m. which was followed by dinner in the college canteen. The organizers of the coaching class namely CA. Karan Joshi, CA. Ankit Savla and CA. Pratik Chandra gave an overview to newspaper and T.V. reporters regarding C.A. coaching classes to be organized in the college campus along with B.Com and B.B.A courses. Shri Ramnikbhai Shah, Shri Bhartesh K. Shah and Shri Sonil Shah were present to motivate the spirit of introducing such an initiative for the students.

C.A. Seminar for Students

On 18th June, 2013 an informative seminar was organized for the prospective students to give an overview of C.A. coaching classes to be conducted in the college. Nearly 250 students from varied schools and colleges like Shri L. G. Haria High School, St. Xavier’s High School, Shri Satya Sai High School attended the seminar. CA. Karan Joshi, CA. Deepak Varia, CA. Purohit and CA. Bhavin Shah enlightened the students about CA course and CA coaching classes to be organized in the college along with the B.Com and B.B.A. courses within college hours.

Parents’ Meet

On 22nd June, 2013 Parents’ Meet was organized in the conference hall of the college. Parents of 226 students’ attended the meet and they were given an overview of the college through a power point presentation

explaining that success of students depend on the combination of teacher’s excellence, students willingness and parent’s support. Highlights were given about approximately more than 100 extra-curricular and co-curricular activities conducted by the college along with the achievements of students in such activities. Parents and students were introduced of various clubs of the college, its activities, rules and regulations. Parents of two students of last year expressed their opinion about the functioning and the level of satisfaction they receive from the college for the overall development of their children. The meet was useful to bridge the gap between parents, students and teachers aiding for the overall understanding and development of the students.

Fresher’s Day

Fresher’s Day was organized in the conference hall for first year students of the college on 3rd July, 2013. Freshers of the college were introduced with the teaching staff, non-teaching staff as well as various clubs of the college. Varied fun games were also organized for them by seniors.

Award and Investiture Ceremony

The college celebrated two events at M. P. Shah Town Hall on 22nd July, 2013. One to commemorate the excelsior’s of the academic year 2012-13 and the other to appoint students as office bearers, thus making them the extended hands of the college. The day was an event that celebrated the three stakeholders in the nation building i.e. Parents, Teachers and Students by bringing them on one platform. The theme of the event ‘Saluting the Genesis’ was very effectively depicted. It, being the day of Guru Purnima the students paid their obeisance to their gurus. The Guru’s applauded the efforts of their protégées and showed their appreciation by awarding their efforts. The students in turn offered their awards to their parents for their selfless contribution in nurturing them to become the stars of the college and a pride to the society.

The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Shri Ramnikbhai K. Shah Managing Trustee of

Oshwal Education Trust, Shri Chandubhai R. Shah Hon. Secretary of OET, Shri Bhartesh Shah Trustee OET, Shri Bipinbhai Jhaveri and Shri Rasikbhai Shah Members of Board of Higher Education OET, Mr. and Mrs. Deepak Shah the sponsorer of Shri Veljibhai Kachra Savla award.

In charge Principal Mrs. Snehal Kotak Palan in her welcome address applauded the achievements of the students, the staff and the contribution of the parents in the progress of the student and the college.

A total of 181 awards were given to students spanning different areas of the academic world. Riddhi Vadodariya was the ‘Crowning Glory’ of the evening who bagged eleven awards in Sports thus charting her own history.

During the investiture ceremony nearly seventy students were appointed as office bearers and Neel Sahashrabudhe and Nishee Nathwani were appointed as the Chief Student Coordinator of the college for 2013-14.

and a skit. The evening came to an end on a very fruitful note when nearly three hundred students achieved awards or positions as the college office bearers. The joint efforts of Mrs. Snehal Kotak Palan - In charge Principal, Mrs. Sandra Moss - Vice Principal, Faculty Members and Students Volunteers led to the grand success of the programme.

Independence Day

On 15th August, 2013 Independence Day was celebrated in the college campus. Freedom fighters of our country were given a tribute by Trustees of Oshwal Education Trust, In-charge Principal, Vice Principal, teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students of the college by hoisting and saluting National Flag of India. Students of B. Com and B.B.A. presented two patriotic songs, a poetry recitation as well as a duet song on this patriotic occasion. One student from B.C.A. expressed his views about patriotism and current scenario of youth, through a speech.

As a tradition of the college, flag hoisting was

followed by a social activity organized by Society for Social Care Club. Donation amounting to Rs. 14,500 was collected from the students as well as staff of the college. Students accompanied by staff visited Ram Roti Ashram, Jamnagar. Donation collected was utilized for the benefit of under privileged children at the ashram by distributing a packet of biscuit, 250 gm sukhadi, 250 gm peanuts, 1 napkin, and 1 soap to 45 children.

Teacher’s Day

The college observed 5th September, 2013 as Teachers Day. The students of the college arranged the programme on the occasion. In-charge Principal Mrs. Snehal Kotak Palan, teachers, administrative staff, librarian, I.T. staff and peon were felicitated by the students through certificates and sash. All the faculty members were given funny awards.

dance, etc. were performed by the students followed by snacks. On this occasion Mr. Bhartesh K. Shah, trustee of Oshwal Education Trust remained present and he was also honored by the students. Students worked very hard to make their teachers feel special.

Talent – O – Fiesta

Talent O Fiesta a carnival for the talented youth was organized by Shri. G.H.G Commerce & Shri D. D. Nagda BBA College Jamnagar on 9th Oct 2013. It was a day when the Graduates and Post Graduates from all over Gujarat made a bee line to Jamnagar’s well known Oshwal Education Trust managed college campus.

The opening ceremony was attended by a host of luminaries which included names like Jay Vasavada the Chief Guest and the speaker of the day, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Saurashtra University Dr. Mahendra K. Padalia, Shri Dineshbhai Patel Mayor - Jamnagar, the Managing Trustee of Oshwal Education Trust Shri Ramnikbhai K. Shah, Hon. Secretary of Oshwal Education Trust Shri Chandubhai R. Shah, Trustee of OET Shri Bhartesh Shah, Committee Member of OET Shri Sonil Shah, Shri Bipinbhai Jhaveri, Shri Girish Bhimani - Dean of Science Dept, Mrs. Varshaben Chichiya Syndicate member, Shri Jitendra Lal, Shri Indulal Vora, Shri Ashok

Shah, Director of JVIMS Dr. Ajay shah, In-charge Principal of the host college Mrs. Snehal Kotak Palan, Principal BCA College Mrs. Hetal Savla.

A total of 20 colleges from Gujarat and 9 schools from Jamnagar participated in the event. It was a mammoth meet of 485 students who were powered by an energizing speech by the Chief Guest Shri Jay Vasavada the famous writer columnist and orator. The college campus was enlightened by the presence of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr Mahendra K. Padalia who presided over the function. He addressed an enthusiastic audience and expressed praise and admiration for the event and the organizers.

Talent-O-Fiesta was an event of eight innovative competitions, where the best locked horns with the best to clinch the coveted trophy. The competitions included Business Quiz, Jumbloid, Investothon, Ad Fest, Union Antakshari, Tapping Toes, Rangoli and Face painting.

Shri Vikrambhai Madam was the chief guest for the Valedictory function who appealed to the student community to take on their responsibility and not run away from it. Shri Digubhai Jadeja was also present for the function.

The winners were awarded with a trophy, cash prize of Rs 3000, a gift and a certificate. The runners up received a trophy, cash prize of Rs 1500, a gift and a certificate.

Among the colleges that participated in the event were some well-known names like B K Majumdar Institute of Business Administration (HL BBA) Ahmedabad, BCA College Surat, J. J. Kundalia, M. J. Kundalia College Rajkot, Christ College Rajkot, Kansagara College Rajkot, M. H. Gardi College Rajkot, Gyan Ganga College Rajkot and the colleges of Jamnagar.

Although no registration fee was charged all the students were treated to a healthy breakfast and lunch which was on the house. The idea behind organizing such an event is to evolve as a model educational center in tune with the changing times.

Confidence Multiplier

On 9th December, 2013 Shri Keshubhai M. Gosrani Trustee of Oshwal Education Trust came on a visit to the college campus and addressed the staff of B.Com, B.B.A., B.C.A. and M.B.A. College run by Oshwal Education Trust. He motivated the faculties of various streams of the trust run colleges by showing a video ‘Confidence Multiplier by Shankar Nair’.

Guest Lecture on Globalization, Technology and Youth

To throw light on the topic ‘Globalization, Technology and Youth’, a guest lecture was organized on 12th December, 2013. Dr. Jay Badiyani – Head of MBA Department, Bhavnagar University imparted knowledge to around 150 students of T. Y. B. Com and T.Y.B.B.A.

Today’s techno-world is unsafe for girls as they are being made the target of lot of misuse of technology. Dr. Jay Badiani imparted knowledge regarding the negative points of technology and the misuse of technology from the view point of females and young girls thus alarming the girls to be alert while using technology.

Secondly, technology has advanced at a rapid speed but villages still have to depend on public transport. They have no other mode of transport. As far as India is concerned, it is a fast growing country. It is a country which has the people of different linguist background, culture and religion. India has the oldest culture; hence it has assimilated the wisdom of all those wise people.

Through technology one can enhance their knowledge which would be a great asset. The seminar inspired the students to be creative, be an entrepreneur and to know how to market themselves in the techno-corporate world.

NET Clearance by faculties

University Grants Commission conducts National Eligibility Test, which is a gateway test to prosper the career as Lecturers in colleges, universities and other educational institutions. The institution feels proud to share that Mr. Gaurav Mehta and Mrs. Sneha Cheda Sumaria – faculty of the college, cleared UGC-NET in December, 2013. The Trustees of the college, In-charge Principal and Staff congratulate them for this remarkable achievement.

Run For Unity

On the morning of Sunday 15th December, 2013 which is the Punya Tithi of Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shri Narendra Modi flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ in Vadodara. Over 40 lakh people across over 1100 locations all over India joined the ‘Run for Unity.’ Shri Narendra Modi said that this run is being held with a determination to unite the people, unite the villages and unite the nation. He described the ‘Run for Unity’ as a matter of Rashtra Bhakti and an effort to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the people of India. Shri Modi called for integrating the future generations with the message of unity.

throughout the nation. To express our solidarity to the nation, all the students, teaching as well as non-teaching staff of the college participated in ‘Run for Unity’ which started from Bhujiyo Kotho, Lakhota Lake passing through varied areas of Jamnagar and ending at the Museum of Lakhota Lake of Jamnagar.

Industrial Visit

Industrial visit is a part of curriculum of B.B.A. course of the college, to create awareness among the students regarding working and management of the industries. An industrial visit was organized on 29th, 30th and 31st December, 2013 at Jyoti CNC, Rajkot. Mrs. Aqsa Khatri and Ms. Krupa Trivedi, faculties of the college guided the students of first year of B.B.A. in the industrial visit to increase the pace of their learning. Another industrial visit was organized at Automation Pvt. Ltd. wherein Ms. Krupa Trivedi faculty of the college and Mr. Dharmendrasinh Solanki from administration guided the students. A third group of 49 students were taken to an industry by Mrs. Gunjan Shukla faculty and Mr. Dharmendrasinh Solanki from admin.

Guest Lecture on ‘Management & Administration’

A guest lecture was organized in the college for the staff members on 6th December, 2013. Shri P. K. Laheri - I.A.S., Ex Chief Secretary of Government of Gujarat, addressed the staff on the topic ‘Management & Administration’. The staff reaped the benefits of profound knowledge from the renowned guest.

‘Business Relation Conference – Kal Aaj aur Kal’

The Rotary Club of Jamnagar organized a seminar on ‘Business Relation Conference – Kal Aaj aur Kal’ on 19th January, 2014. 17 students accompanied by a staff member, participated in the seminar. Fees for the students were Rs. 150 and for others Rs. 300. Half of the amount of fees was borne by the college. The seminar guided the students on the current situation of the business world compared to the past and future prospects available.

Seminar on ‘Certified Financial Planner’

A seminar was conducted by N. J. Invest Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai on 29th January, 2014 to create awareness regarding a renowned course ‘Certified Financial Planner’. The seminar was presented by Mr. Rakesh Baig, Regional Manager and Mr. Brijmohan Pandey representing the company. The course has been recognized by various institutions and even banks, thereby providing enormous opportunities of jobs in different fields. Yesha Mankad and Sneha Davda, Coordinators of JVIMS pursuing the said course, motivated the students to join the course thereby opening up varied paths for their future.

Seminar for Girls

A seminar was organized by Ponds – Hindustan Unilever Ltd. in the college regarding ‘Grooming Girls’. Represents from the esteemed company showed a video

advertisement alongwith a demonstration of the products. A kit of products of Ponds was given to all female students and staff.

Orientation for Seminar of Rajesh Agarwal

An orientation was organized in the college on 13.03.2014 for attending the seminar to be held on 23.03.2014 of Rajesh Agarwal – Motivational Speaker. 35 students attended the seminar.

Annual day

The 15 years journey of Shri Gosar Hansraj Gosrani Commerce and Shri D. D. Nagda BBA College, Jamnagar was encapsulated in the Annual function on 7th March 2014, bringing the renowned, the celebrated and the honorable mentions of the city to Oshwal Education Trust managed colleges.

The spot light of the evening was Dr K M Acharya recipient of the civilian Honor Padma Shri who was felicitated by the host college, Mahila College, MD Vidyotejak Mandal and Red Cross Society.

The college took time to express its indebtedness to Shri Bipin T Vadhar the architect of the dream college who within a span of two years started four colleges in one campus which today stands as a colossus assiduously living by its ideal of “Molding Minds is our mission” and still abiding by the standards of discipline set by Shri Bipin T Vadhar and Shri G. G. Matharu.

Time moves in one direction, memory in the other, so going down memory lane a model of the present college was constructed by calling on stage all the stakeholders beginning with the pioneers Shri Bhartesh Shah and Mrs. Snehal Kotak Palan, followed by the professors who rendered valuable services in the formative years the respectable mentions are Shri K. G. Dave and Dr. Biswas. The reconstructions was followed by the other professors who came later followed by alumni and the present faculty. It was indeed a novel way to proclaim and recognize the contribution of all in the chronicle of our success.

It was a blend of two ages; all the former stakeholders were fondly remembered and the present students by their exemplary performance who brought laurels to the college were awarded in Sports, Proficiency, Maximum attendance and Special awards. A total of 133 awards were given away.

13 Arts & Cultural Club

Traditional Day

India is one of the most diverse countries in the world when it comes to culture and religions. The celebration of religious festivals has always been an important part of Indian culture. Indians enjoy celebrating their differences and sharing their traditions with others. Due to variety of different groups in India, there is a festival celebrated most days out of the year in some part of the country.

Traditional Day was organized on 3rd August, 2013 by Arts and Cultural Club. Mode of transport was the theme for students representing a class. The students dressed up in traditional outfits came in different modes of transport which created the waves of colors across the campus. In addition group ramp

walk and solo ramp walk competitions were also organized.

Students depicted various national and international traditions. They passed on social messages to the viewers like women empowerment, good v/s evil and so on. Celebrating such an ethnic day in college was a wonderful feeling for the students.

Club organized Rakhi making and Friendship band making competition on 6th August, 2013. 21 students participated in the competition.

Drawing and Painting Competition

Arts and Cultural Club organized a drawing and painting competition on 7th August, 2013 to give a chance to students to show their talents of expression and communication with visual arts and explore more in their field of interest apart from regular course of studies. The topics of the competition were (i) a village scene and (ii) a potter. 25 students participated in the activity.

Poster Making Competition

Arts and Cultural Club polished the skills of students for poster making to depict messages

in visual form or graphical form by organizing a poster making competition on 7th August, 2013, where students were given a particular theme on which they had to prepare posters. 9 students participated in the activity.

Cartooning Competition

It is always a fun to watch cartoons on television, newspapers, and magazines. Arts and Cultural Club organized a Cartooning Competition on 8th August, 2013 wherein all the participants had to draw a cartoon. Participants depicted various cartoon characters like Scooby Doo, Dexter, Tom and Jerry and Power Puff Girls. The event provided a chance to participants to re-visit their childhood again. 9 students participated in this activity and boosted their cartooning skills.

Creative Art is an accumulation of different art subjects. Arts and Cultural Club organized Creative Art Competition on 12th August, 2013 where the students got a chance to show their creativity like best out of waste, music, graphic arts and so on. 16 students participated in this activity and displayed their creative talent.

Handicraft Competition

Arts and Cultural Club organized a Handicraft Competition on 13th August, 2013 to explore students creativity and designing skills that are related to making things with one's hands including skills on work with textiles,

moldable and rigid materials, paper, plant fiber, etc. 9 students participated in the competition and exhibited their unique handicraft skills by making various items like ceramic pot, handbag, soap show piece and so on.

Rangoli Competition

The purpose of rangoli is decoration and it is thought to bring good luck. Arts and Cultural Club organized Rangoli Competition on 14th August, 2013. 16 students participated in this competition and prepared colorful and creative designs of rangoli, reflecting traditions, folklore and practices that are unique to each area.

Spot photography is an art of capturing the photo on spot with whatever expression on the face. Arts and Cultural Club organized Spot Photography Competition on 17th August, 2013 to boost the skills of photography among students. 16 students participated in the event and captured photographs of varied expressions of their friends and colleagues.

Collage Making Competition

Arts and Cultural Club organized a Collage making competition on 19th August, 2013 to

give a chance to students to develop their skills for collage making which included magazine and newspaper clippings, ribbon, paint, bits of colored or handmade papers portions of other artwork or texts photographs and other found objects glued to a piece of paper or canvas. 10 students participated in this competition. They were given a particular theme and on that basis they had to make the collage. This event helped them to show their innovation and creativeness.

Solo Dance Competition

Arts and Cultural Club organized Solo Dance Competition on 25th September, 2013. Dance is a type of art that generally involves movement of the body, often rhythmic and to music. It is performed in many cultures as a form of emotional expression, social interaction, or exercise, in a spiritual or

performance setting and is sometimes used to express ideas or tell a story. A particular theme was given to the students for selecting the song and dance style. This event depicted the dancing skills of 16 participants.

Mehndi Competition

Mehndi is considered as a symbol of good luck and health in India. Any major festival or celebration, girls specially apply mehndi. It is famous among Hindu and Muslim traditions at large in India. Arts and Cultural Club organized Mehndi Competition on 11th January, 2014 where students depicted their skills of applying beautiful creative mehndi.

Salad Making Competition

Arts and Cultural Club organized salad

making competition on 18th January, 2014 to explore the creative and decoration skills of the students. Varied decorative and delicious salads were prepared by the participants from vegetables, pulses, bread, and so on. Few participants prepared appetizers along with salads. Students exhibited their innovativeness through colorful, delicious and healthy salads.

Chaat Making Competition

Arts and Cultural Club organized chaat making competition on 22nd January, 2014 to develop the skills of preparing delicious chaats which are very famous among youngsters now-a-days. Participants depicted their innovativeness in preparing quick, delicious and healthy chaats from pulses, fruits, bread, snacks and so on, adorable by varied age groups including Jain chaats.

Pirates of Caribbean

An event, Pirates of Caribbean was organized by ECGC on 26th July 2013, wherein the participants had to guess the structures shown on the screen. The structures depicted famous structures of the world. Total 57 students participated in this event and enriched their knowledge.

Visit to Nirma University

ECGC organized a visit to Nirma University, Ahmedabad on 8th August 2013, wherein total 58 students of the college were accompanied by two faculties - Mr. Gaurav Mehta and Mrs. Aqsa Khatri. Students had a campus tour of Nirma University, wherein they visited places like the management section, class rooms, library, conference hall, etc. After having lunch at Nirma canteen they proceeded to Science City, Ahmedabad. The visit to Nirma University and Science City was like an educational picnic for the students enabling the students of the college to interact with the students of other university. This exposure had

a motivational impact on the students of the college.

Ad – O – Mania

‘Ad-O-Mania’ an event on marketing, was organized by ECGC on 22nd August 2013. There were 18 teams with 4 to 5 participants per team. The event was divided in 3 rounds – Radio Jingle round, Play Ad round and Quiz round. In the first round the product given was chocolate or biscuit. In the next round the product given was electric switches. In the third round advertisements were played and participants had to guess the company or products. This event increased the marketing skills of the students.

Investothon

A virtual online game of stock market “Investothon” was organized by ECGC on 20th September 2013. 70 teams participated in this game, each team having 2 participants. Each

team was allotted with virtual money worth Rs. 10, 00,000. The teams had to invest this money in shares of different companies. News regarding different companies was broadcasted on the screen which affected the price of shares just like actual stock market. Teams had to trade virtually in the shares to earn highest profit. The participants were enriched with the knowledge of trading on stock market along with the fun of playing an online game.

Seminar on ‘Gateway to Corporate

World’

ECGC club organized a seminar on ‘Gateway to Corporate World’ on 21st September, 2013 conducted by Mr. Snehal Pandya – Jt. General Manager of Essar Power Ltd., Vadinar, and Jamnagar. The motive of this seminar was to encourage and polish the students of the college to enter the corporate world after their graduation and explore their future. Nearly 150 students gained knowledge and motivation through a video backed by an

inspirational talk of the renowned guest from esteemed Essar Company of Jamnagar.

Seminar on How to Prepare Resume

Majority of the students lack in the skills to prepare proper Resume or C.V. Due to this, graduates are not able to persuade people to give jobs. With a view to impart knowledge about preparing a proper Resume or C.V., a seminar was organized with the joint efforts of Economic Association and ECGC Club on 30th January, 2014. The seminar was of immense help to third year students, seeking jobs after graduation. Mr. Gaurav Mehta and CA. Mital Raithatha guided 43 students for preparing a proper Resume or C.V.

LIME – An Auction House

LIME an event for Lessons in Marketing Excellence, was organized by ECGC on 3rd February 2014. There were 32 teams with 3 participants per team. The event was divided in two rounds. First round was related to marketing, in which products, logos, etc. were

displayed and the teams had to recognize the Company. 20 teams were selected from first round. Second round was related to auction. 25 products were allotted to the teams for auction. The teams had to maximize the resale value of products to be the winner. The event became a fun house for the students who in turn were enriched with marketing and auctioning excellence.

Motivational Seminar

Motivation is a key to ignite the hidden capabilities of people and students need such motivation precisely. With a view to motivate students and to bring awareness among students, a seminar was organized on 25th July, 2013 by Economic Association. This seminar threw light on the theories of motivation through speech and inspirational videos. 59 students attended the seminar.

Group Discussion

Group Discussion is a modern method of assessing student’s personality. It is a comprehensive tool to judge the worthiness of the student and his appropriateness for the job. Group discussion tests how the person functions as a part of a team. With a motive of molding student’s personality, Economic Association organized a talent scan activity ‘Group Discussion’ on 13th August, 2013. 4 teams participated in this activity with 10 participants per team. The students were

evaluated on the basis of their communication skills, leadership skills, lessoning power, etc.

Independence Quiz

Economic Association celebrated Independence Day in a different manner by organizing a quiz on 19th August, 2013. The quiz related to Indian glory and freedom with very tricky questions. The competition was only for the club members with a participation of around 20 members.

Seminar - Why Rupee Is Falling?

Economy of India faced great tragedy during the year. There was a continuous downfall in rupee value. To bring awareness among the students about the economic situation of India, a seminar was organized by Economic Association on 2nd September, 2013. The seminar threw light on the topics like current economic situation, reasons for fall in the value of rupee, steps taken by the government to regain the rupee value, results of such steps

on the economy, etc. This seminar motivated the students to co-ordinate economics in theory with current economic situation and to think upon the factors which can affect the economy.

Seminar – Cycle to Save Fuel

Modern world represents a world which requires less efforts and more comfort. Vehicles running on fuel are increasing at a nuclear speed leading to devastating extinction of fossil fuels. Almost whole world is striving to save fuel. Economic Association took an initiative to create awareness about saving a scarce and valuable resource ‘fuel’ by organizing a seminar cum group discussion on the topic ‘Cycle to Save Fuel’ on 3rd September, 2013. Students were motivated to increase the use of cycles for travelling to save fuel for future.

Business Quiz

B-Quiz was organized by Economic Association on 21st September, 2013. Business quiz covered questions related to branding,

personality, history, fundamentals, etc. 70 members participated in the quiz, in a team of 2 each. The winners of this quiz were selected for participation in Talent-O-Fiesta, an open Gujarat Event organized by the college.

General Quiz

Today’s generation needs to be potential and competent, to exist in the competitive world. For this purpose, general awareness is a must. With an aim of boosting the general awareness among students, Economic Association organized a ‘General Quiz’ on 21st January, 2014. With a view to create awareness about the corporate world and to develop public speaking skills of the students, Economic Association organized ‘Corporate Elocution’ competition on 18th February, 2014 as talent scan activity. The participants were judged on the basis of their knowledge, content of speech, voice tone, etc. The competition resulted in enhancing the talent of public speaking.

Musical Welcome

Year 2013-14 started with sun shine in the eyes and music in the mind. ‘Musical Welcome’ was organized by Music Club on 3rd July, 2013 at the conference hall of college. The event started with the prayer ‘Gananayaka Ganadevata…’ sung by members of Music Club. The songs like Papa Kehte Hai, Lakshya song, Frustration songs and songs on winning the world, added charm to the theme of ‘Welcome College Days.’

Morning Mantra

There is freshness about the early morning which belongs to no other period of the day. The sun has a more kindly brightness and the air a fresh crispness which are lost largely as the day grows older. Morning prayers fills our heart with energy, brightens our eyes and makes us feel how good it is to live. A competition named ‘Morning mantra’ was organized by Music Club on 18th July, 2013, where the participants were required to sing a

morning prayer. Out of 20 participants, winners were selected on the basis of the singing skills of the participants.

Award Function - Prayer song

Award Function and Investiture Ceremony was organized by college on 22nd July, 2013 at Town Hall, Jamnagar. Members of Music Club sung a Prayer song ‘Yeh to Sach Hai Ke Bhagwan Hai……’with co-ordination of dance. Parents of students who were present in the function, were fully enlightened with the song and dance with the background music played by Mr. Mahendra (Harmonium Player), Milap (Tabla Player), Sophia and Nimit (Guitar Players).

Auditions for Saptadhara and Youth

Festival

Auditions were organized by Music Club in August, 2013 for selecting students to represent the college in Music Competitions organized in Saptadhara and Youth Festival. Selections were done on the basis of 4 different types of singing. Selections were made for Group Lokgeet, Solo Lokgeet, Solo Bhajan, Light Vocal and Western Light Vocal.

Patriotic Group Song Competition

Independence Day was celebrated in college by flag hoisting followed by patriotic songs. On 15th August, 2013, members of Music Club showed their love and respect towards the leaders who struggled for independence by singing patriotic songs with music.

Musical Tambola

Music Club organized a new kind of game ‘Musical Tambola’ on 17th September, 2013, which was a combination of filmy songs and entertainment. This event was organized for

all students for their fun, enjoyment and to give them a relief from their daily routine studies. There were around 134 participants who had great fun in the event.

Union Antakshari

Talent-O-Fiesta, an open Gujarat Competition was organized by the college on 9th October, 2013. Music Club organized ‘Union Antakshari’ as one of the events out of 8 events of Talent-o-Fiesta Season-II. The event was organized for college as well as higher secondary students. Around 90 students participated from 15 Colleges across Gujarat and around 32 students participated from 6 Schools of Jamnagar.

Tree plantation

Trees are essential to our world and offer a wide range of benefits to our environment. Planting Trees is one of the cheapest and most effective ways to bring about widespread improvement in the environment & the quality of life of an area. Without Trees there would be no life. To spread this awareness a tree plantation camp was organized by Nature & Adventure Club on 23rd August, 2013, where students personally went at GIDC Phase-3 and planted around 50 to 70 plants.

On 27th September, 2013 ‘Nature & Adventure Club’ organized Tree Plantation for NCC Cadets. Students of Nature & Adventure Club and NCC Cadets went for Tree Plantation at GIDC, Phase-III. Third phase of Tree Plantation was organized at GIDC, Phase-III which was named as ‘Hariyali Halar’. Shri Devi Prasad Maharaj, Shri Ramniklal K. Shah (Managing Trustee) and other trustees took part in the green event of Tree Plantation.

Environment quiz

Environment quiz was organized by Nature & Adventure Club on 16th September, 2013 to enhance environmental knowledge of students. Mr. Anand Dave was the Chief Guest of the quiz. Nature & Adventure Club organized an exhibition on 9th October, 2013 as a part of an Open Gujarat Event ‘Talent-O-Fiesta’ organized by the college. The exhibition was on wild life as well as nature photography including videos representing the beauty of nature. The exhibition was viewed by participants of Talent-O-Fiesta who belonged to various colleges of Gujarat, faculties who accompanied the participants as well as various guests of the open Gujarat Event. They gave their valuable suggestions in the form of feedback.

Trip to Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary

Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary also known as safe heaven for birds is located in Jamnagar. It has about 300 varieties of migratory birds. One can find both sea and shore birds here like Black Neck Stork, Great Crested Grebe, Shikra, Lesser spotted Eagle, Black Ibis, and Black-winged Kite etc. All types of nests can be seen here, the ones on tree, on ground and floating nests on water. Here, varieties of ducks make floating nests. The black-necked storks, which are not found easily anywhere in India, are found here in abundance at Khijadiya. Nature & Adventure Club organized a trip to Khijadiya on 18th January, 2014, were students saw many birds and they learned many things about nature and birds. Around 75 students were guided by 2 faculties in this trip, which turned out to be an educational picnic.

Seminar on Personality Development

The academic year 2013-14 marked its beginning with “SEMINAR ON PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT” on 31st July, 2013 by Prof. Ashish Nathwani. The seminar was highly enriching with regards to, how to build positive attitude? How to achieve success in life? How to change our mindset from negative thinking to positive when we fail in achieving our goals. The seminar was very fruitful for the students and would help to achieve success in life. And the response from the students was very worthwhile. They enjoyed a lot along with getting knowledge on personality development. The whole seminar on personality development proved to be a landmark event.

Filmania - A Bollywood Quiz

The most interesting event that was organized for the first time by Reading Club was Filmania

Competition on 10th August, 2013. Now you all would be thinking why reading club organized such an event? But friends let me tell you that Reading Club is not all about learning, but it is all about learning with fun and enjoyment. It was a bollywood quiz comprising of 5 rounds. The quiz was designed in a way that would help to empower the language proficiency. It included rounds for translation of songs into English, acting Hindi movie scenes in English, etc. The response from the students was very enthusiastic and they enjoyed a lot. So, we could say that, Filmania-A Bollywood Quiz was a grand success for reading club and enthusiastic on the part of participants. There were around 45 participants.

Elocution

Reading club is all about increasing the speaking abilities of the students and removing the stage fear, nervousness of the students. Reading Club organized “Elocution Competition” on 23rd August, 2013. There were 7 topics given to the participants among them they had to speak on it for 2 minutes. To

test the speaking abilities of the participants Ms. Sharmila Vaidya of Shri L.G.Haria High School was invited to the college for competition. Along with her Mrs. Sandra Moss Ma’am judged the event. The response from the students for participating in elocution competition was very noteworthy and they gained tips to improve speaking abilities, gestures while speaking, voice tone, etc. So reading club got a positive response from the participants for organizing this competition and it has contributed in great deal towards enhancing oratory skills.

B - Quizz

Apart from “Filmania-A Bollywood Quiz” reading club also organized B-Quiz i.e. General Quiz on 14th September, 2013. In this quiz there were 5 rounds like identifying the famous personalities, flags of the world etc. They were also asked questions regarding

general knowledge. So, here in B-Quiz they were given opportunity to sharpen their general knowledge, latest updates in the world, etc. And the response from the side of participants was very amazing. They enjoyed a lot along with gaining knowledge of sports,

brand ambassadors, company’s logo, etc. B-QUIZZ was a talent scan activity of reading club. 75 students participated in it and 15 students were selected for final round.

Jumbloid - Talent O Fiesta

Jumbloid can be aptly described as a cozy corner of the scrabble world where alphabets are given a meaning, words the power and participants a personality. After all words are pegs to hang ideas on English words are like presims, empty, nothing inside and still they make a rainbow. This newer exercise was experienced by a remarkable no. of students. This competition was one amongst the laudable events at Talent-O-Fiesta 2013-14 organized on 24th September, 2013.

spellings, pronunciation, etc. is the spell bee competition organized by Reading Club on 28th January, 2014. Here, participants were asked to spell the word which was dictated. They had to listen very carefully to it. All the participants tried their level best to write correct spellings of 20 common words. This competition not only develops the spellings and pronunciation of the students but also their listening skills. The response from the student’s side was very appreciative. They enjoyed the competition.

News Broadcasting

Generally, students avoid watching news channels; they prefer the entertainment programmes and television. So Reading Club gave an opportunity to the students for developing their reporting and broadcasting abilities to the viewers to hear the news by organizing News Broadcasting Competition on 28th January, 2014. Participants were supposed to bring their own news image and were expected to speak on that image for 2

minutes. They were judged on the basis of their speaking abilities, reactions to the image and their gestures. It was very much surprising to see that the response from the students for news broadcasting competition was good. Overall the event was marked with zealous participation.

Debate

A competition were arguments play a major role in deciding “what is better” is called the debate competition which was organized by reading club. The topic of the debate was chosen keeping in mind the modern world. The topic was related to the student’s favorite things i.e. “Operating System”. Many students took part in the competition and their speaking abilities, their intelligence quotient and presence of mind were developed with the help of this competition.

Coaching Camp

Saurashtra University Basket Ball Coaching Camp for girls and boys was organized by Sports Club from 10th June, 2013 to 21st June, 2013. 20 students participated in the camp. Trustee Mr. Bhartesh Shah, Principal In charge Mrs. Snehal Kotak Palan and Vice Principal Mrs. Sandra Moss remained present to boost up the learning spirit of participants. Vote for Earth Cycle Race – 2013

To promote the message that bicycle is a means of environment friendly mode of transport, ‘Vote for Earth Cycle Race’ was organized by Nawanagar Nature Club, Jamnagar, along with Jamnagar Municipal Corporation on 23rd

June, 2013. NCC cadets of the college controlled traffic and ensured safety of the cyclists. Mayor Mr. Dineshbhai Patel, Dy. Mayor Manjulaben Hirpara and Standing Committee Chairman Kamlasingh Rajput were the Chief Guest.

A Seminar was organized on 6th July, 2013 by Sports Club on the topic ‘Career Guidance in Defense & Role of N.C.C.’ Mr. A. Mathur Commanding Officer, 27 Guj. Bn Jamnagar was the Chief Guest of the seminar. Welcome speech was given by Vice Principal Mrs. Sandra Moss. Approximately 100 students participated in the seminar. Col. Mathur guided the students by speech and presentation and explained them about the importance of N.C.C.

Tree plantation program was organized by Sports Club on 7th September, 2013. 40 N.C.C. cadets participated in tree plantation program under the guidance of Mr. Prabhanshu Awasthi, Ms. Simoom Parmar, Ret. OET Cricket Tournament

Tennis ball cricket tournament was organized by Sports Club of the college for all the staff and students of the Oshwal Education Trust. Many teams of college and school had taken part in the tournament.

Annual Athletic Meet

Annual athletic meet 2013-14 was organized by Sports Club in January2014. The chief guest of the day were Chairman of the trust Shri Kantibhai Haria, Smt. Kamlaben Haria, Managing Trustee Shri Ramnikbhai K. Shah, Trustee Shri Chandubhai Shah and Committee Member Shri Bipinbhai Jhaveri. Principal In-charge Mrs. Snehal Kotak Palan, Principal of

BCA Mrs. Hetal Savla and Principal of JVIMS Dr. Ajay Shah marked their presence in the athletic meet to motivate the sportsmanship spirit of the participants.

The meet was declared open lighting the torch followed by freeing the balloons and pigeons high up in the sky. NCC students depicted a defence program as a part of opening ceremony.

Varied competitions were held like races – 100m, 400m, 1500m, shot-put, discuss throw, high jump, long jump. Around 150 students participated in varied activities of the athletic meet. Faculties of B.Com, B.B.A. and B.C.A. also participated in various races organized and were bagged with prizes.

Jignesh Bhesdadiya from boys and Bhagyarathi Gor from girls, outperformed others in various sports activities and were declared as ‘Sports Person of the year.’

The prize distribution of Sports Club activities was held on the following day. Trustee Shri Chandubhai Shah graced the occasion by his presence and rewarded the winners with trophies, medals and certificates.

Donation at Ram Roti Ashram

‘Helping hands are nobler than praying lips’. With this motto every year SSC Club collects donations from the students and staff of the college for some noble causes. On 15th August, 2013 i.e. Independence Day SSC Club visited Ram Roti Ashram to donate food packets to children with malnutrition. Nuts, golpapadi, popcorns and various fruits were distributed to the children. Shri Kantilal Haria (Chairman of OET) and Smt. Kamlaben K. Haria accompanied the teaching, non-teaching staff and the students of the college for this noble cause. Nearly 50 students were benefited.

Thalassemia Awareness Seminar

To create awareness about the disease named ‘Thalassemia’ among the students; a ‘Thalassemia Awareness Seminar’ was organized on 21st August, 2013 by SSC Club and Red Ribbon Club with the aid of Red Cross Society. Dr. Bhadreshbhai Vyas gave a speech on the awareness of Thalassemia. Shri Bipinbhai Jhaveri (Committee Member) and Mr. & Mrs. Vithlani remained present in this seminar.

Check Up Camp for Thalassemia

A Check up Camp for Thalassemia was organized on 24th August, 2013 by SSC Club

and Red Ribbon Club with the aid of Red Cross Society. The checkup was a great initiative and there was a massive participation of more than 200 students along with faculty members. Majority of the students had ‘Thalassemia Negative’. The parents of those students, who had ‘Thalassemia Positive’, were informed about the reports of the checkup.

Preeti – Bhojan

On 4th January, 2014 Preeti – Bhojan was organized by SSC Club and Red Ribbon Club

for the orphans below 14 years, unfortunately being HIV positive. For a noble cause these children were taken to giant wheels at Lakhota Lake by the students of the college. Various fun games were organized for their enjoyment in the college campus. Then they were fed delicious ‘Pau – Bhaji’ prepared by the students of the college in the college campus.

Students collected contribution for this activity and donated cloths, sweaters, blankets, pencils, pens, etc. to the children. Smile on the innocent faces of the children acted as immense satisfaction to students of the college.
