As the deer panteth for the waterSo my soul longs after YouYou alone are my hearts desireAnd I long to worship You

[Chorus] You alone are my strength, my shieldTo You alone may my spirit yieldYou alone are my hearts desireAnd I long to worship You

I want You more than gold or silverOnly You can satisfyYou alone are the real joy giverAnd the apple of my eye

[Chorus]

You’re my friend and You’re my brotherEven though you are a KingI love You more than any otherSo much more than anything2. HePaidaDebtHeDidNotOweWritten by Ellis J. Crum © 1977 Ellis J. Crum, Publisher CCLI #1670684

He paid the debt he did not owe, I owe the debt I could not payI needed someone to wash my sins awayAnd now I sing a brand new song, “Amazing grace”Christ Jesus paid the debt I could never pay

He paid the debt at CalvaryHe cleansed my soul he set me freeI’m glad that Jesus did all my sins eraseI now can sing a brand new song, “Amazing grace”Christ Jesus paid the debt that I could never pay

One day he’s coming for me to live with him eternallyWon’t it be glory to see him on that day?I then will sing a brand new song, “Amazing Grace”Christ Jesus paid the debt that I could never pay

3. AmazingGraceWritten by John Newton ©Public Domain CCLI# 1670684

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,That saved a wretch like me.I once was lost but now am found,Was blind, but now I see.

T’was Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appearThe hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snaresI have already come;‘Tis Grace that brought me safe thus farand Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be,As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,And mortal life shall cease,I shall possess within the veil,A life of joy and peace.

When we’ve been there ten thousand yearsBright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praiseThan when we’ve first begun.

When He rolls up His sleevesHe ain’t just putting on the ritz(Our God is an awesome God)There’s thunder in His footstepsAnd lightning in His fists(Our God is an awesome God)And the Lord wasn’t jokingWhen He kicked ‘em out of EdenIt wasn’t for no reasonThat He shed His bloodHis return is very closeAnd so you better be believing thatOur God is an awesome God

[Chorus]Our God is an awesome GodHe reigns from heaven aboveWith wisdom, power, and loveOur God is an awesome GodOur God is an awesome GodHe reigns from heaven aboveWith wisdom, power, and loveOur God is an awesome God

And when the sky was starlessIn the void of the night(Our God is an awesome God)He spoke into the darknessAnd created the light(Our God is an awesome God)Judgement and wrathHe poured out on SodomMercy and graceHe gave us at the crossI hope that we have notToo quickly forgotten thatOur God is an awesome God

8. ColoringSongWritten by Dave Eden © 1981 Dawn Treader Music

Red is the color of the blood that flowedDown the face of someone who loved us soHe’s the perfect man, He’s the Lord’s own sonHe’s the lamb of God, He’s the only oneThat can give us life, that can make us growThat can make the love between us flow

Blue is the color of a heart so coldThat will not bend when the story’s toldOf the love of God for a sinful raceOf the blood that flowed down Jesus faceThat can give us life, that can make us growThat can keep our hearts from growing cold

Gold is the color of the morning sunThat shines so freely on everyoneIt’s the sun above that keeps us warmIt’s the Son of Love that calms the stormThat can give us life, that can make us growThat can turn our mornings into gold

Brown is the color of the autumn leavesWhen the winter comes to the barren treesThere is birth, there death, there is a planAnd there’s just one God and there’s just one manThat can give us life, that can make us growThat can make our sins as white as snow

That can give us life, that can make us growThat can turn our mornings into goldThat can give us life that can make us growThat can keep our hearts from growing coldThat can give us life that can make us growThat can make the love between us flow

13. HowDeepTheFather’sLoveForUsWritten by Stuart Townend ©1995 Kingsway’s Thankyou Music (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing) CCLI# 1670684

How deep the Father’s love for usHow vast beyond all measureThat He would give His only SonTo make a wretch His treasureHow great the pain of searing lossThe Father turns His face awayAs wounds which mar the chosen OneBring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a crossMy sin upon His shouldersAshamed, I hear my mocking voiceCall out among the scoffersIt was my sin that held Him thereUntil it was accomplishedHis dying breath has brought me lifeI know that it is finished

I will not boast in anythingNo gifts, no powr, no wisdomBut I will boast in Jesus ChristHis death and resurrectionWhy should I gain from His reward?I cannot give an answerBut this I know with all my heartHis wounds have paid my ransom

16. InChristAloneWritten by Keith Getty / Stuart Townend © 2001 Thankyou Music CCLI #1670684

In Christ alone my hope is foundHe is my light, my strength, my songThis cornerstone, this solid groundFirm through the fiercest drought and stormWhat heights of love, what depths of peaceWhen fears are stilled, when strivings ceaseMy comforter, my all in allHere in the love of Christ I stand

There in the ground His body layLight of the world by darkness slainThen bursting forth in glorious dayUp from the grave He rose againAnd as He stands in victorySin’s curse has lost its grip on meFor I am His and He is mineBought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in deathThis is the power of Christ in meFrom life’s first cry to final breathJesus commands my destinyNo power of hell, no scheme of manCan ever pluck me from His handTil He returns or calls me homeHere in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, JerichoJoshua fought the battle of JerichoAnd the walls came a-tumbling downYou may talk about your men of GideonYou may talk about the men of SaulBut there’s none like good old JoshuaAt the battle of Jericho

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, JerichoJoshua fought the battle of JerichoAnd the walls came a-tumbling down

Right up to the walls of JerichoThey marched with spears in hand“Come blow them ram horns, “ Joshua cry“’Cause the battle is in my hands”

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, JerichoJoshua fought the battle of JerichoAnd the walls came a-tumbling down

Then the lamb ram sheep horns began to blowAnd the trumpets began to soundJoshua told the children to shout that morningAnd the walls came a-tumblin’ down

Joshua fought the battle of Jericho, Jericho, JerichoJoshua fought the battle of JerichoAnd the walls came a-tumbling down

And Hope Does Not Disapoint UsHope. The Apostle Paul in the Bible says that three things are the most import-ant--faith, hope, and love. (Love being the greatest, of course.) Some have even said that hope is so important that when people lose all hope they die. Why does Paul list hope as one of the three most important things in our lives? What is it in us that needs hope? Can hope ever be useless or pointless--hopeless, even? What’s the difference between hope and a dream? These are big questions, and I’m not sure I have all the answers. But let’s look at a story found in Matt 14:22-33

It’s a “famous” story of Jesus calling Peter to get out of a boat on a stormy sea and walk across the water to where Jesus was walking on the water. As Peter and the other disciples were sailing across the windy sea in the middle of the night, Jesus comes walking on top of the lake to join them in the boat (quite a lesson right there!). When the guys see Jesus walking on the water, they freak out because everyone knows that people don’t walk on water, so they must be seeing a ghost!

Jesus tries to calm them down, and Peter says, “If it’s you Jesus, tell me to come to you on the water.” (v. 28) Did you catch that? Listen to what Peter is really saying with this simple sentence. He is saying, “I have so much hope in who you are, that if you tell me to, I am willing to do something that no one in the history of the world has ever done--walk across the top of the water.”

So Peter tried it! He stepped out of the boat and for a few steps at least, he walked on the water! And even when his hope faltered and he began to sink, he knew where to call for help--not to his buddies in the boat with the life jackets and ropes. Nope. He called out to Jesus. And what did Jesus do? The Bible says, “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.” (v. 31) Because Peter had a sure hope in Jesus, even when things got a little hairy, Jesus stepped in.

And then Jesus asks the tough question of Peter, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Read Jesus’s question again. Peter’s hope in Jesus was so great, that Jesus called it faith! Peter’s faith kind of fizzled out, but it was there, and it was borne out of his hope in who Jesus is. So maybe it’s fair to say that hope, when placed in God and his Son, Jesus, is tiny faith.

In the book of Romans, Paul puts it this way in chapter 5, verse 5: And hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” I think this is a perfect description of what happened to Peter! Peter’s heart was so full of the love of and for Jesus, that even in sinking a bit, Peter’s hope was not disappointed. Even in what started out as a mind bending experience of walking on the water, that turned into a potential drowning situation, Jesus was present the entire time, always close enough that He could immediately reach out his hand and catch Peter.

And that’s the same for us, right? If you know Jesus as your Savior, God is calling us to live our lives for Him. And sometimes that seems scary and risky, but when we’re seeking Jesus, even if it feels like we’re stepping out of the boat into a stormy sea to walk across the water, if we’re walking to Jesus, our hope (and faith!) in Him will not disappoint us because we know His love poured out into our hearts. -Collin Minshull

Isaiah 40:6–8A voice says, “Cry out!”

Then I said, “What shall I cry out?” “Say all people are like the grass.

And all their strength is like the flowers of the field. The grass dies, and the flowers fall.

This is because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely the people are like grass.

The grass dies, and the flowers fall. But the word of our God will live forever.”

Where is your hope?

This spring I had a lot of fun seeing the leaves come back to the trees. Normally, I am too busy with school to watch the slow process of leaves growing. Due to the glob-al pandemic, I had more free time. I was reminded of the beauty and intelligence of God’s creation in how the plants change throughout the year. In the spring, new leaves appear and dress the trees beautifully until they die and fall off in the autumn. Some trees don’t go through these changes, and are called evergreen trees. Pine trees, such as tall Norway Pines or small Christmas trees, stay green all winter and give us a beautiful reminder of green summers even in the snow.

Many things in life change a lot, like leaves falling off of a tree. This spring was very different from what most peo-ple thought it would be. These changes can shake us like the autumn wind which blows the leaves from trees. Many people want the steadiness of a pine tree that stays green all year long. This steadiness cannot come from anything on Earth or made by man. God’s work through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross will last even when the Earth is gone. Those who put their faith in Jesus will have life and hope, no matter what autumn wind blows. Just like a pine tree, they will never lose their leaves, and will stay green and living all year long.

Another interesting fact about pine trees is they have very deep roots that attach firmly to the earth. When wind storms or tornadoes cause damage, a pine tree will rarely blow away. Faith in Jesus gives us this same strong foundation that can survive any storm which comes our way. Do you want the lasting strength and life of a pine tree? Do you want the life and safety that Jesus alone can offer you? Pray and ask Jesus for his saving power for you.

A Sad Blueberry When I was younger, one of my favorite movies was Veg-gie Tales: Madame Blueberry. It was about a wealthy blueberry who, despite everything she had, was not content. Throughout the course of the movie, Madame Blueberry searched for the se-cret to being happy. After some leeks came to her treehouse and performed a very catchy rap song, Madame was convinced that happiness could be achieved if she went to Stuff-Mart and bought out their entire stock of furniture and kitchen appliances. Un-fortunately, when she tried to hoist her new air compressor into her treehouse, the tree bent under its weight and slingshotted her house into the Stuff-Mart parking lot. Faced with the loss of her home and all the stuff she thought would make her happy, Madame realized that the first step to being happy is being thankful for what you already have. It’s kind of a silly story. After all, you probably have never been serenaded by vegetables or bought every single item in a store. I think, however, that everybody is more like Madame Blueberry than they would perhaps like to admit. We think “if I could only have this thing, go to this place, be with this person, or be liked by everyone” then we would be happy. But even when we get those things, the happiness only lasts for a while. Then we move on to the next thing, and convince ourselves that this time it will cure our cycle of unhappiness. Like our fruity friend, we often place our hope in things that don’t have lasting value. Such hopes, like Madame Blueber-ry’s treehouse, are rather unstable. Fortunately, the Bible offers us a better hope in Jesus. Hebrews 6:19 says “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure”. When we place our hope in Jesus, we know that our souls are secure even if the things around us aren’t going the way we want them too. Being saved through Jesus provides a peace and joy that no material thing can ever compare to. -Heidi Scheidecker

What is hope?

Cambridge Dictionary definition:noun—the feeling that something desired can be had or will happenverb—to express the feeling or wish that something desired will happen

In a cultural sense, it comes down to wishful thinking.

But The Bible offers Christian hope.

There is certainty in the hope of The Bible.

Romans 15:4, NIV: “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”

What is the “living hope” the Bible mentions in 1 Peter 1:3?

1 Peter 1:3-4, NIV: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you…”

Living Hope is Jesus Christ. Our hope is not wishful thinking, it is found in a person. A person who is God , overcame death and offers each of us the free inheritance that can never be taken away.
