ABSTRACT
This study involves discovering the effectiveness of the
campaign strategies of the Theresian Student Council in launching
their projects and announcements. The significance of this study
is to help not only the Theresian Student Council but also the
Administration in their ways of employing their projects and
announcements efficiently in school. This study has been done
through using an experience survey, an in-depth interview, an
observation and a focus group discussion. This study used the
Kolmogorov-Smirnov test as their statistical tool to be able to
acquire the result of the problem. Upon using these tasks,
methods, techniques and tools, it becomes clear that there are
significant differences between the responses of the students
depending on the campaign technique that the Theresian Student
Council has employed. Through showing that the campaign
techniques that the Theresian Student Council implements greatlyPage 8 of 55

affect the responses of the students, this study will be able to
help the future Theresian Student Council to organize projects
and launchings with the improvements from this year.
Chapter 1
I. Background of the Study
Leadership is imminent in every school or student body.
These leaders have every intention of making the
institution better and on serving the greater community.
It is seen that through the projects that they implement
help them assess if they have become good leaders in

serving their constituents. In St. Theresa’s College
Quezon City, participation in the different projects are
varied. Different styles and strategies can be seen from
the way they approach the student body on encouraging
these projects.
Theresian Student Council projects often require
launchings and grand openings. If they do not make grand
openings or launchings they usually announce through the
public address system their plan of action to the whole
community, not just the students. The Council strives to
capture the attention of the whole body to be able to
implement their desired project effectively. This study
helps see if different styles affect the opinion,
information and level of participation of the public.
Values inculcated within the announcement or presentation
would be observed if the students really do embody these
values and if the students and the people are encouraged
or are inspired by the presentation on emulating these
positive attitudes that could help boost morale.
Interest of the students towards the project launching
can determine the effectiveness of the project or its
application because acquiring the interest of the

students in certain projects through the launchings and
campaigns would increase the likeliness of getting more
people to join in on these launchings.
Furthermore, communication which has played an
important role in the formation of relations within the
community is now posted as a probable or potential source
of power in order to give light to the different
behaviors of the students and the projects proposed by
the student council. Now the question is, which campaign
style is the most effective and best way for the student
body to be informed of such projects and announcements,
or is there a better way in order to satisfy the thirst
for knowledge, participation, values and entertainment of
the students?
II. Statement of the Problem:This study was conducted to investigate the preference
of the different campaign strategies conducted by the
Theresian Student Council on the project launchings and
announcements.
Specifically, the study attempted to answer the following
questions:
A Study on the Preference of the Students regarding the
Campaign Strategies and Means Used by the Theresian Student Council
In Launching and Fulfilling their Projects.
1. How do the students respond to the campaign of the
project launchings and announcements?
1.1 Does their level of interest increase in the
project?
1.2 Does their level of participation increase?
1.3 Are they encouraged to embody and emulate
Theresian Values presented in the humorous
launchings or announcements?
2. How effective is the way the Theresian Student Council
members handle or communicate the launchings and
projects to the Student body?
3. What suggestions from the student body would be proper
or fitting for the student council members to apply in
their next project launchings or announcements?
III.Assumptions:Specific Problem:
How do the students respond to the campaign of the
project launchings and announcements?
Implicit (Unwritten Assumption):

Students respond differently in projects depending on the
campaign strategy utilized by the Student Council
Specific Problem:
How effective is the way the Theresian Student Council
members handle or communicate the launchings and projects
to the student body?
Implicit (Unwritten Assumption):
One of the factors of a project being successful is the
successful communication between the students and the
student council. The successful communication may include
humor and values.
Specific Problem:
What suggestions from the student body would be proper or
fitting for the student council members to apply in their
next project launchings or announcements?
Implicit (Unwritten Assumption):
The interest of the students would affect them listening
to the project launchings and therefore help in the
communication between the council and the students.
Suggestions from these students would help increase the

success since their interests may determine the proper
campaign strategies to use.
IV. HypothesisOperational Hypothesis:
These is a significant difference when it comes to the
response of the student body towards the Theresian
Student Council projects whenever they use means that
interest the student body.
Null Hypothesis:
There is no significant difference when it comes to the
response of the student body towards the Theresian
Student Council projects whenever they use the means that
may or may not interest the student body.
V. Significance of the Study
This study is a significant endeavor in promoting
Theresian values as well as moral ethics and principles
in the Theresian Community and holistic growth of its
members. It is also beneficial to the leaders of the
Theresian Student Council, its moderator and more
importantly, the Administration when they employ
effective projects and announcements in the school

setting particularly in promoting different concepts
related to the environment, the advocacy, and especially
to the Church as the center of St. Theresa’s College,
Quezon City’s curriculum. By understanding the effects,
benefits, and disadvantages of the effects of different
campaign strategies and means on the perception of the
community, the spearheads are ensured a successful
campaign for their projects and/or announcement.
Moreover, this research provides a basis on how to
evaluate the performance of a certain project in
accordance to the awareness of the Theresian Student Body
and other personnel.
Furthermore, this study is helpful to the Theresian
leaders in training and informing them in the area of
effective advertising principles specifically, the
campaign strategies and means used by the Theresian
Student Council in launching and fulfilling their
projects, its objectives and strategies. It also serves
as a future reference for researchers such as research
elective students and other science research students on
the subject marketing research. And importantly, this
research helps educate the Theresian Community in
deciding on whether a project is really promoting well

thought of values or is just an avenue to promote one’s
self interest.
VI. Scope and Delimitations of the StudyThe study focused on the preference of the students
when it comes to the campaign strategies of the Theresian
Student Council projects and announcements. The scope of
the study was the reaction and participation level of the
Theresian Community to the Theresian Student Council
projects and announcements. It was a concern that the
values of the projects and announcements being promoted
were learned and lived out or not by the Community. This
included the effectiveness of the strategies on upholding
the values, principles and ethics through the public
address system announcements. The study focused on the
whole Theresian Community itself. The study covered the
perception of the Theresian community on the values
taught in the Theresian Student Council projects.
The study did not cover the level of participation of
other members of the Theresian Community like the Support
Services Group or Maintenance. It did not include
campaigning means that would make the Student Council
spend money in order to make the students aware of the
different projects or launchings.

VII.Definition of TermsValues – Values can be defined as broad preferences
concerning appropriate courses of action or outcomes. As
such, values reflect a person’s sense of right and wrong
or what “ought” to be.
Communication – Communication is the activity of
conveying information through the exchange of thoughts,
messages, or information, as by speech, visuals, signals,
writing, or behavior. There is communication when both
parties are at a common understanding.
Influence –The capacity or power of persons or things to
be a compelling force on or produce effects on the
actions, behaviors, opinions and etc.
Theresian Student Body – The Theresian Student body is
comprised of the High School students of St. Theresa’s
College, Quezon City.
Theresian Student Council – The Theresian Student Council
are members of the High School community of St. Theresa’s

College Quezon City. They were elected by the Student
body of St. Theresa’s College ,Quezon City.
Project Launchings – The project launching is the action
wherein the Theresian Student Council debuts the project
to the whole Theresian Student Council. Usually, the
project launchings are presented in a creative manner
that would help increase the participation and awareness
of the students.
Campaign Strategies- Campaign strategies are a series of
activities that apply public speaking and demonstrating
to attain the goal of the people or community. Some of
the examples are advertising campaigns and political
campaigns.
Fulfillment- Fulfillment can be defined as an
accomplishment of task or projects.
Participation – The act of taking part or sharing in
something; specifically in the projects proposed by the
Council.
Awareness – Having knowledge of the happenings around the
area.

VIII. Variables
A. Independent Variables
1. Campaign strategy
The campaign strategies to be used in implementing the
Theresian Student Council projects greatly affect the
responses and reactions of the Theresian Community. The
strategies used will yield certain effects on the
respondents' participation in the project, and gain
certain values within them. To determine which strategy
is the most effective, the researchers will have to
measure the participation level and the consistency of
the values gained if any.
2. Projects implemented by the Theresian Student Council
The projects implemented by the Theresian Student
Council may or may not capture the Theresian Community's
interests. Some of the respondents, if the project is
not within their interests, may completely ignore the
project despite the campaign strategy used. However, the
campaign strategy must be able to accommodate that
possible ignorance by capturing the attention and
Page 19 of 55

In Launching and Fulfilling their Projects.
interest of the respondents through the delivery, which
the project alone cannot carry out.
B. Dependent Variables
1. Values gained
The values that can be gained through the projects will
depend on the magnitude of impact on the community. These
values will help reach the objectives of the research
because the consistency of the values gained and lessons
learned suggests how the respondents reacted toward the
project and its message. The values will only be
consistent within the community if and only if they can
fully comprehend why they are doing such projects and
accustom themselves to do it even outside of school.
2. Personal preferences or interests of respondents
The personal preferences or interests of the respondents
may have an effect on their participation in the
projects. This is because the greater the interest of
the student body towards the campaign launching, then
the more likely it is for them to
A Study on the Preference of the Students regarding the
Campaign Strategies and Means Used by the Theresian Student Council
In Launching and Fulfilling their Projects.
3. Participation level of respondents
How much the respondents do or act on the projects will
determine their participation levels. This will be
adequately useful for the research because these
participation levels can help determine if the campaign
strategy or the project made an impact on the
respondents. The impact must be of enough magnitude to be
able to encourage the students to start, and continue all
throughout, participating in the project.
C. Controlled Variables
1. Respondents
The respondents are considered controlled variables
because the researchers will be getting most, if not
all, of the data for the research from these people. The
data they will be gathering will come from the same
group of people. This will help facilitate the gathering
of data, as well as the observations that can be made by
the researchers on the progress of the respondents in
terms of participating and living out the message of the
project implemented.

In Launching and Fulfilling their Projects.
D. Extraneous Variables
1. Schedule of respondents
The respondents may or may not be busy, and they might
use this as the reason behind their level of
participation. This is an extraneous variable because
the dedication of the respondent can be seen here. The
respondents will find even the shortest of time to
participate if they really are serious about wanting to
participate. Also, the projects implemented by the
Theresian Student Council always seem to have little
ways in which you can participate in it. In this case,
therefore, a busy schedule is not a a valid excuse to be
made by the respondents.

I. Review of Related Literature

According to Brightman in his book entitled Person and
Reality: Introduction to Metaphysics, values are ideals and
principles by which man lives. Value means whatever is actually
liked prized esteemed, desired, approved and enjoyed by anyone at
anytime. Hence, value is an exciting realization of one’s desire
that could help form a person’s principles and ideals.
Recent developments in the Philippine educational system
give unprecedented emphasis on value education in the curriculum
and these provide an opportune means of establishing direct
linkages between catechesis and value education, particularly in
Catholic Schools. (Bautista, 1989).
The statements above prove that in Catholic schools like St.
Theresa’s college, Quezon City values are continuously inculcated
in students through different ways not only in the classroom set
– up. The institution tries to establish direct linkages of
values in the student’s daily activities like the project
launchings. The project launchings of the Theresian Student
Council may help form the values of the students so they will
become better individuals. Since the values are the ideals and
principles by which man lives, it is likely that as the projects
are launched in a humorous and value filled way, the students
will be able to emulate and adapt to this set – up.

Through influence and the correct use of language, you can
ultimately get the audience to trust and feel favorably disposed
towards them (Borg, 2008). Trust is vital when it comes to the
relationship between the student body and the council. Through
trust and the right influence, the students may see in a better
light the purpose of the projects and the students may be
predisposed on the project at hand and support it more.
Communication has purpose, when people communicate with each
other they create a serious or trivial purpose. We communicate to
develop and maintain our sense of self, we communicate to meet
our social needs, we communicate to develop and maintain
relationships, we communicate to exchange information and we
communicate to influence others. (Verderber, 2009).
Communication is vital in order to meet the needs of both
parties halfway through. One of its many purposes is to influence
others and exchange information which is vital in project
launchings of the Theresian Student Council. Therefore,
communication is important in order to perform a presentation
that is value filled, informative and is useful to the student in
terms of personality, morals and principles.
Even the most brilliant strategy is worth nothing if it
isn't executed well, especially by your front line (Gallo, 2010)
From this statement we can see how planning and strategizing the
Page 24 of 55

projects for the Theresian Community is not enough. Execution is
the key in order to fulfill and promote Theresian values. Correct
execution and strategies are the only way in order to continually
gain support from the projects, for the betterment of all.
In the movie A Thousand Words, Jack McCall, a literary agent
was forced to pick and choose a few words that he would use for a
lifetime as a curse, due to this, communicating with others
became difficult and it only left room for misunderstanding. In
order to end the curse, a guru tells him to make peace in all of
his relationships. With just one branch of leaf left (each leaf
symbolizes one word he could use), he was willing to do anything,
even to reconcile with his father with whom he had issues with.
Jack, realizing that this is the relationship that needs the most
mending, goes to visit his father’s grave. Jack utilizes the last
three leaves of the tree with the words, "I forgive you.” This
became the turning point of how communication, whether through
words and actions has proven to be vital when it comes to
connecting with other human beings. Robbins, B. (2012). A
Thousand Words. DreamWorks Skg.,
The movie has proven that communication plays a vital role
in understanding one’s situation and in increasing the
effectiveness of a message. Therefore, communication is really
important in serving the purpose for which it was planned or

designed. It is shown that like Jack, one’s participation and
support towards the action increases once his interest is
captured by a message delivered through a strategy that he saw
was effective and that the situation needed.
Giving one’s attention can be perceived through getting the
participation of your audience. Interest proves how much one is
willing to participate in a program or project. It is measured by
how effective one’s strategy is in capturing one’s interest.
Therefore, the effectiveness of a project is determined by one’s
utmost participation and this can be achieved by capturing one’s
interest.

Chapter 3 : Methodology
This chapter seeks to be a guideline with the
specific components such as tasks, methods, techniques
and tools for studying the effectiveness of the campaign
strategies and means used by the Theresian Student
Council in launching and in fulfilling their projects.
The goal of this study is to be able to know the opinions
of the student body, how they behave towards the
different TSC projects in terms of participation and how
to improve these said projects for the fulfillment of the
goals of the school. In order to accomplish this goal the
following techniques was used by the researchers to
gather data for the study: 1. Survey, 2. Observation and
3. Focus Group Discussion.

A survey was conducted to the Students and the
Student Council of St. Theresa’s College Quezon City. 6
Students from the 7 electives were chosen by the
Researchers as their respondents. These students answered
the surveys during a given time period. This survey
contained questions on their thoughts about the
effectiveness of the campaign strategies and means used
by the Theresian Student Council in launching and in
fulfilling their projects. This served as a guide for
what the reactions of the students in the different
campaigns and launchings.
The survey assessed if the campaign strategies in
the past were effective. It also included what made it
appealing and what made it less appealing for students
to join or participate in the said projects and if they
learned any value or morals in the project. The survey
was constructed through positive wording that helped
encourage and motivate the respondents to answer
Page 28 of 55

further. Positive wording included “Have you noticed the
creative campaigns of the Theresian student council?”
and not negative phrasings like “The TSC has been
ineffective, shade yes or no.”
This action research was also accomplished through
another form of gathering data –observation. The
researchers observed the student body on how they reacted
to the projects based on how effective the campaign
strategies and means used by the Theresian Student
Council in launching and fulfillment of their projects
are. This observation included the act of receiving
knowledge of the outside world through the senses.
Lastly, the group also used focus group discussion
which is an interview, conducted by a trained moderator
among a small group of respondents. The interview was
conducted in an unstructured and natural way where
respondents were free to give views from any aspect. It
is also form of qualitative research in which a group of

people are asked about their perceptions, opinions,
beliefs, and attitudes towards the effectiveness of the
campaign strategies and means used by the Theresian
Student Council in launching and in fulfilling their
projects.
I. Comprehensive Flow of the Focus Group Discussion:
A. The Importance of a Focus Group Discussion in the Study
This focus group can help the TSC know what catches the
interest of the student body that would be the stepping stone to
a more effective project. This can help the TSC develop projects
that would be beneficial and advantageous to the school. Through
this focus group we can also get information as well on how the
students reactions and perspectives in the current projects.
In this focus group discussion, the respondents were asked
about their perceptions, opinions, beliefs, and attitudes towards
the effectiveness of the campaign strategies and means used by
the Theresian Student Council in launching and in fulfilling
Page 30 of 55

their projects. Questions were asked in an interactive group
setting where participants were free to talk with other group
members.
This focus group discussion sought to gain knowledge about the
effectiveness of the campaign strategies and means used by the
Theresian Student Council in launching and in fulfilling their
projects by interviewing a group of people directly affected by
the issue. The Focus group data gathered was used to collect
information for many purposes, such as conducting a needs
assessment or evaluating a program in context of the action
research presented. It also sought to explore the depth and
nuance of opinions regarding the launchings of the Theresian
Student Council. It also sought to understand the differences in
perspectives of the influence of the opinions or behavior of the
respondents. It also sought to test the reactions of the
respondents to actual or proposed launchings of the Theresian
Student Council. In conclusion, this focus group discussion aimed
to add different strategies or means to further improve the
launchings of the Theresian Student Council through the response
of the Theresians to their different launchings.
Objectives of FGD:
- To reaffirm the results and to add more data to the gathered
information through the different surveys.

C. Screener’s Guide:
Those qualified to be respondents for the focus group were
those part of the Theresian Community, excluding those who are
already part of the Theresian Student Council. The respondents
were those who have already witnessed or those who are currently
witnessing the launching and enforcing of the projects of the
Theresian Student Council. This is why the researchers chose
respondents who were knowledgeable enough and were able to help
in the formation of this research. Respondents were chosen based
on reliability and their experience and with this Judgmental
Sampling was used.
The respondents were chosen by the researchers. They were
chosen based on the researchers’ knowledge about the schedule of
the person. If the researchers knew that a person has a busy or

hectic schedule, or if the person has heavy work load, they were
not chosen for the focus group so as not to add to the things
they have to do already. That is why the technique of Convenience
Sampling was used.

Figure 4.1: Frequency of Hearing Launchings
According to the data that has been gathered through
the surveys, Theresian students generally hear about
projects once a month. This then leads to the next question
which asks whether or not they like the way the Student
Council presents their projects. The answers vary between
finding it average and above average. This can lead to the
analysis that the students find these launchings and
projects typical and somehow usual already. This was proven
by the answers to the 3rd question which asked about their
willingness to participate in projects, showing that in the
degree of willingness they are just willing to participate,
as shown in Figure 4.2 below.

Based on the responses the students usually participate
in school drives that were presented to them but it’s not
frequent that they see the values and the importance of
these projects to their practical lives. Their level of
social awareness is low according to the negative responses
in the survey but they claim to gain values and that
launchings are vital to every project. These launchings are
vital because of the following reasons, first because it
gets the people’s attention, second, it makes the students
aware of these said projects and third, to know more about
the background and purpose of the project. These reasons
proved how in the eyes of the students, launchings are
important. Refer to Figure 4.3.

The students found the launchings and projects more
effective when the Public Address system is used. Moreover,
they would prefer it if there were posters to constantly
remind every class and even more spacious areas to be used
in launchings like the covered court, so that the whole
student body would be able to witness it. But, the most
prominent suggestion and comment was that the student body
requested a website or videos that could be posted online to
further promote these projects. It has been seen through the
bandfests (according to the surveys) that through online
promotion, people actively joined and was encouraged to join
in on the projects.

Table 4.19 D values for Questions 2 and 3
D. Interpretation of the Statistical Test Result
Since the acquired D value from all of the questions
are greater than the critical D value, this would mean there
is a significant effect and difference when it comes to the
reaction of the students in launchings. You can see a great
difference in the questions that ask of the relevance and
importance of launchings. This means that the students are
aware of the charities that help the projects and the
different causes it stands for. On the other hand, when it
comes to the willingness to participate, the way the
students like the launchings and the underlying values that
could be gained, the results stand in an almost equal
ground. This would mean that there are some students who
participate actively but sometimes participate and sometimes
do not. This would mean there is inconsistency in the
student’s participation in these kinds of endeavors proposed
by the Student Council.

Chapter 5: Conclusion
Based on the survey and interviews the research team
conducted, the results were able to help determine if the
students are able to see the underlying values held inside each
launching. The survey also helped prove and determine if the
launchings done by the Theresian Student Council are able to help
in the participation of the projects.
The results that were gathered showed how launchings are
vital to every project because it serves as a way to inform the
students of the mechanics, catch the attention of the student
body and to encourage the students to take part in this project.
According to the results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test that
was taken and the analysis of the interviews and surveys, we
accept the operational hypothesis that there are significant
differences between the responses of the students depending on
the campaign technique that the Theresian Student Council has
utilized.
A Study on the Preference of the Students regarding the
Campaign Strategies and Means Used by the Theresian Student Council
In Launching and Fulfilling their Projects.
This was proven through the answers of the respondents when
they agreed that launchings help the students be informed and
this is the first stepping stone to capturing the interest of the
students and later on encouraging them to participate. The
statistical tool used, the K-S test had proven that the students
are aware of the project launchings but it is not enough to
attract their attention because there are inconsistencies in the
council when they try to capture the interest of the student
body.
Overall, the study has verified how it is vital that the
Student Council should try to launch projects in other creative
ways because the launching style of just using the mic to
announce the project is not just enough anymore. Some may think
it’s still effective but it’s already been overused. Most of the
respondents feel that it is through being informed of different
projects that they are able to see who they help in charities and
through helping charities, their values are boosted and shown
because they try to help out of sincerity. Now this shows that
Page 49 of 55

the launchings can affect many factors, the success of the
project, the participation and whether or not it would help in
the value formation of Theresians.
Chapter 6: Recommendation
A Study on the Preference of the Students regarding the
Campaign Strategies and Means Used by the Theresian Student Council
In Launching and Fulfilling their Projects.
The study conducted is recommended for the Theresian Student
Council to use in order to address the needs and preferences of
the students regarding project launchings and presentations. They
are advised to adjust their means of presentation of the projects
in such a way that the students will find them interesting,
interactive, humorous and attention catching. Since the members
of the council are also part of the student body, they are
probably also aware of the kind of sense of humor that this
population has. Therefore, the humor by which the students will
be enticed can easily be fashioned by the officers of the
council. These ways may include jokes, dances, etc.
Furthermore, the researchers recommend better advertising
for the projects to make the whole student body fully aware of
each and its details. This has come to be a recommendation to
address the lack of awareness and short attention span of the
students during the launchings. Because of this, the researchers
suggest that the council create posters and flyers to be placed
or given out around the school in order to spread the news about
the projects launched.
The involvement of students in the project presentations has
been observed to be one of the factors affecting their level of
participation. Consequently, the Theresian Student Council should
Page 51 of 55
A Study on the Preference of the Students regarding the
Campaign Strategies and Means Used by the Theresian Student Council
In Launching and Fulfilling their Projects.
be able to make use of this factor in their favor. The
researchers suggest that the council select different people for
each presentation to widen the number of students involved in
promoting the projects of the Theresian Student Council. Also,
doing so will provide a variety of performances and presentations
from the council because selecting different students would mean
they also have different capabilities in presenting or performing
certain tasks.
Lastly, the students have found interest in projects
such as the bandfest because the council was able to present it
in a creative way on the internet. Thus, the researchers suggest
that the council cope with the advancement in technology by
having a website of their own to post announcements and details
about the projects.
