SANKALP EK PRAYAS, an NGO formed in 2009 at Bhilai (CG) and registered in March, 2011, has successfully been

positioned in the state of Chhattisgarh as a truly service oriented group of professionals who want bringing lasting

change in the lives of thousands of less fortunate children. While reaching to 2000 children each day through its 20

support centers and direct support interventions functioning across the region, SANKALP hopes to continue playing an

important role and will continue to evolve in keeping with the needs of the hour for the better lives of the less

fortunate children.

SANKALP is serving the under-privileged and illiterate section of the society and does not allow the poverty to become

a reason to illiteracy and concentrate on providing free tuition facilities to the unprivileged children so that they gain

the power of knowledge and strength of education with the passage of time. Presently SANKALP runs 20 centers across

Bhilai/Durg region. SANKALP’s centres are diverse in their location, target population, and approach to education.

Presently, SANKALP’s reach covers villages like MORID, SOMNI, GANIYARI, NARTHI, SIRSAKALA, NEWAI, AUNDHI,

GAUTAM NAGAR, SANTOSINAGAR, RAVELI, DUMERDIH, BATANG, MARODA, UTAI, SAHEED VIR NARAYAN NAGAR,

TARRA, DUNDERA, RUABANDHA, SONIYA GANDHI NAGAR and PACHPEDI.

15 More centres of SANKALP shall be started shortly as SANKALP team is finalizing the modalities of running new

centres in the rural areas in the region.

Our research shows that the average student in Class VIII in these areas are unable to read the simple text/ solve

math problems of class II [also endorsed by our research] and this propels us working on the issues of improving

their academic levels through institutional interventions. We run after school educational centers at these villages

in rented houses, with hired tethers.

We provide 04 hours classes in Science, Math and English. In all these areas, the academic level of children is much

below the national average and the children are mostly enrolled in Government Schools. We have been able to

enhance their academic level by approx 26%. We conduct monthly test in three subjects and monitor progress for

all such children. Besides, we execute two months teach training for all such engaged teachers wherein they are

trained in all above subjects once in a year so that they become more productive. We run centers throughout the

year [except summer vacation in which we focus on developing their interest in other extracurricular activities].

We are in the process of opening similar after school centers in other areas of the region and our objective is to

make them stand in the competitive world once they are out of school by bring their academic level to an

accepted level with our effort.
