For non-registered runners and general visitors interested in the EXPO, please come on either dates of February 27 or 28. There are restrictions on items that can be brought into the Start Area and course. Pay careful attention to the following in preparation for the event. In possession of a prohibited item, it will be confiscated or disposed the item immediately. Thank you for your cooperation.

Other prohibitions・Poisons, explosives, fireworks, oils, items which generate hazardous gases, and other hazardous materials. ・Blades, flammable objects, and other dangerous objects. ・Box cutters, scissors, tools, long umbrellas, and other items that could be used as weapons.

Absolutely no canteens, water bottles, plastic bottles, cans, and other such containers are allowed.[Aerosol sprays]Aerosol sprays are prohibited. However, such items are permitted if they fulfill the following requirements :・Unopened, commercially available item that is

clearly a medical or cosmetic product. ・The container must be no larger than 120 ml.

Only one such container is permitted.

[Food and beverages]Foods and beverages are prohibited. However, they are permitted if they fulfill the following requirements :・Unopened, commercially available items (drink boxes,

cartons, aluminum foil pouches) ・The each containers must be no larger than 250 ml. ・There is no restriction on the quantity of containers but

the combined volume must not exceed 500 ml.

Start Gate Pass and face photo registrationFor security reasons, runners will be given their Start Gate Pass after face photo registration at Packet Pick-up. Ensure that you bring your Start Gate Pass on race day, because it will be checked during your entry to the Start Area.

    Please remove mask and hat for the photo.

Face photos will be taken and registered during Packet Pick-up. This is to prevent false participation. Thank you for your cooperation.

Medical aid•First aid will be provided for injuries or illness that occur

during the race. In some cases, financial compensation may be provided for injuries taking place during the race. Contact the Tokyo Marathon Foundation ([email protected]) after the race.

•Nonprescription medicines (digestive medicines, cold medicines, analgesic patches, etc.) will not be available at the Medical Stations. Topical pain relief spray will also be unavailable.

Handling of personal informationThe organizers recognize the importance of personal information. We comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding the protection of personal information and handle this information as outlined below in our privacy policy. Baggage•Ensure that your belongings are placed inside of the

Official Baggage Bag that you received at Packet Pick-up. Items not placed inside this bag cannot be checked in. No spare bags will be available on race day in case you forget your bag.

•Ensure that you retrieve your checked baggage at the specified location.

•Do not place the following items in the bag: valuables, fragile articles, explosive material or other hazardous items, documents or other electromagnetic media that are difficult to recreate, animals or plants, uncooked food, or any other item that may damage other baggage.

•The organizers will not be held liable for any lost or damaged items checked in during the event.

Race disqualification and cancellation•Runners may be disqualified by race officials if they are

found in violation of the rules. •Runners may be disqualified by race officials or a doctor

if they are determined to be in too poor health to continue the race.

[Prohibited behavior] 1. Clothing or accessories that pose danger to other participants, such as items that could injure other

participants or cause them to fall down, or that cover the entire face. (Examples) ・ Clothing that includes a sword, pole, armor, or rivets; clothing or costumes that may injure

other participants by coming into contact with them, etc. ・Carrying a long or large object such as a banner or flag in your hands or on your back. ・Items likely to make you trip, such as a long skirt or kimono. ・ Items or behavior likely to block the path of other participants, such as multiple participants

lining together. 2. Clothing not suitable for a sporting event, or that makes other participants or spectators feel

uncomfortable. (Examples) Being naked or wearing underwear or costumes that give the impression that you are naked or

nearly naked. 3. Items or clothing intended as advertisement or promotion of political or religious views. 4. Items or clothing intended to promote or advertise individual names or specific regions or groups that are

not recognized by the organizers. (Examples) Wearing clothing printed with "xxxx Shopping Mall", etc. 5. Using items that could be mistaken by other participants as the starting signal or cause confusion during

the event (elevice with powerful flash and lights, whistles, horns, fireworks, or other items that generate explosive sounds, etc.) or device that generates loud noises that may distract other participants.

6. Behavior that may cause delays at the start line, finish line, or on the course, such as dancing, performing, playing musical instruments, or suddenly stopping.

7. Soliciting donations or signatures. 8. Preventing pedestrians from crossing the course when they are allowed to do so. 9. Obstructing the race by refusing to follow the orders of race officials. 10. Occurrence or affairs other than these listed in numbers 1-9 that are determined to be inappropriate for

the event by the organizer.

[Manners] ・Do not relieve yourself anywhere other than the toilet. ・Do not change clothes in station restrooms or inside station buildings. ・Do not change in areas other than those provided by the Tokyo Marathon. ・Do not take off and throw clothing on the course after the start. ・Do not smoke in areas other than those designated by the city or ward authorities. ・Do not run in areas such as flowerbeds, gardens, or down the median. ・Take your garbage home with you. ・ No strollers, animals (including guide animals), non-registered runners, or object that will obstruct the race

are allowed.・ Do not camp out the night before the race or sit in the Start Area as it may inconvenience local residents

or establishments.

The following are refrained at the Tokyo Marathon. The following from 1 to 10 below are according to the Tokyo Marathon Event and Race Regulations, laws, public order or moral. If the organizers determine that a violation of these rules has taken place, the violating runner will not be allowed to participate in the race and will be disqualified, even if the race has already started.

Cold weather countermeasures during the race

If the Japanese Government’s nationwide warning system J-Alert sends an alarm related to ballistic missile launches, follow the staff instructions. Do not panic; act calmly. It is extremely dangerous to suddenly stop or change directions on the race course, where there are many runners. Important Notice

When the race is discontinued, it may not be possible to return your baggage to you due to expected difficulties in delivering your baggage and in securing staff to assist with pick up. In this case, the organizer will send your baggage to the address you registered with us at a later date.

Medical Stations will have cold weather gear as a provision against emergencies, such as cancellation of the race, but the number is limited. Be prepared for cold weather during emergencies by, for instance, carrying your cold weather gear while running or having your family members or friends prepare cold weather gear or drinks for you.Supporter Navigation App (http://p.marathon.tokyo/ouennavi) lets you know where the runner is at on a real-time basis.

Prep. 2 Prepare to collect information

If there is an earthquake with seismic intensity of 5 Upper or stronger in Tokyo area, the marathon will be canceled. The race will also discontinue based on the organizer’s decision when a large-scale accident or other emergencies occur near the race course. To avoid confusion and to ensure your safety, please read the information below before you come to the event. Your cooperation in making the event safer and more secure is greatly appreciated.

● Come to a slow stop while paying attention to your surroundings.● As a general rule, remain where you are until race officials provide instructions.● Emergency vehicles may drive through the course. Follow the instructions of course staff and

wait at the side of the street.

● The race will discontinue if an upper 5 or greater-level earthquake (in the Japanese seismic intensity scale) strikes Tokyo area. The race will also discontinue based on the organizer’s decision when a large-scale accident or other emergencies occur near the race course.

● Announcement of the cancellation will be made by the organizer through media such as audio instructions, the Tokyo Marathon App, and social channels.

● Depending on the situation, audio instructions may not be available. Please also check the information on the application and social channels.

Prepare in advance for unexpected emergencies.

□ Decide and share a meet-up spot for emergencies in advance. □ Carry your smartphone or other communication tool.

For 72 hours after a large-scale earthquake, rescue, first aid, fire-fighting, and emergency transport activities may be prioritized. To prevent secondary disasters caused by aftershocks and large number of evacuees, please avoid trying to rush home and remain at a safe location.

● First, find somewhere safe to wait and stand by. ● Confirm the safe way, and then begin to return home.● Particularly after a major earthquake, public transportation is likely to be unavailable until safety is

assured. Follow the instructions of the organizers and race officials, and stand by at a safe location.

   Runners not at their Start Corral by 8:45 will have to start from the very back. Runners who have not reached the Start Corral by 9:10 will not be able to compete in the race.

You cannot retrieve it once it is checked.

The baggage check-in and pick-up area are located outdoors, and your belongings may get wet as a result. No-baggage runners cannot check any bags.

You can only enter by the designated entrance gate. Congestion is expected. Please arrive with plenty of time to spare. If you do not enter the venue within the required time period, you may not be able to participate in the marathon.

•There are several restricted areas near the Start Area. Follow staff instructions and guidance. *Only runners may enter the restricted areas.

•Refrain from arriving before 7:00 a.m. Runners present in the restricted area before 7:00 a.m. will be asked to temporarily vacate the area.

•Do not camp out the night before the race around the Start Area as it may inconvenience local residents or establishments.

•Personal automobiles, chartered buses, etc. will not be allowed to access the Start Area for picking up or dropping off participants.

•Both before and during the marathon, do not enter the hotels, office buildings, underground shopping malls, or other such facilities near the course to use their restrooms or to change clothing. Also, be aware that the portable toilets on the second floor of the marathon venue may become crowded.

•Bibs, timing chips, and Start Gate Passes will not be reissued. Runners without bibs or timing chips will be disqualified from the marathon.

•The layout of the area surrounding Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is complex, consisting first and second floors. If it is your first visit to this area, we suggest for you to come beforehand to familiarize the area.

Pace-setterPace-setters will run the course, targeting the following records: •Target finish time (gross time) 3 hours / 3 hours and 30 minutes / 4 hours /  4 hours and 30 minutes / 5 hours / 5 hours and 30 minutes • Pace-setters will be running

according to gun time.• Pace-setters only serve to

provide a pace guideline. They are not guaranteed to finish at a set target time.

    Please Allow Emergency Vehicles to Pass•In the event of an accident, fire, or other emergencies

during the race, emergency vehicles may drive through the course. In such cases, please follow the instructions of the course staff and allow the emergency vehicles to pass by.

•Runners may be asked to stop. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated in allowing the emergency vehicle(s) to pass by.

Weather conditions•The weather may change suddenly on the day of the

race. You must be prepared for rain or cold weather. Take particular precautions if your expected finish time is 5 hours or more.

Clothing•Dress with the clearly visible bib.•Do not throw disposable-plastic gear on the course for

it may be a hindrance to other runners.

Distance Markers•Until the 42 km point, there will be a distance marker

every kilometer and the halfway point. •Miles will be marked at the first 1 mile and every 5 miles.

Toilets•There will be signs along the course to indicate toilet facilities.

Ensure to use the designated toilets facilities. •You may also use some Tokyo Metro toilets and Toei

Subway toilets as well as 7-Eleven convenience stores located along the course. When using these toilets, please watch out for pedestrians.

Aid stations•There are 15 aid stations located along the course. (Refer

to Pg.19.) •Please be advised that Personal Drinks will be arranged

for Elite Athletes only.•The Organizer will not be held responsible for fluids or

food taken outside of the provided aid stations.

Medical Stations•Medical stations and medical offices will be located in

the Start Area, along the course, and in the Finish Area. (Refer to Pg.19.)

Cut-Off Checkpoint•Due to traffic, security, and operational reasons, the

course will close up to a particular cut-off checkpoint at designated times. (Refer to Pg.19.) Continuation will not be allowed once the section has closed. Please follow the instructions of race officials.

• Runners who lag excessively behind and the race officials determine that you will not reach the time has the right to stop you from continuing the race even if it is before the allotted time.

Dropping Out•Should you need to drop out of the race outside of a Cut-

Off Checkpoint, please notify a race official (navy blue staff jacket) and proceed to the Finish Area by either: ① Going to the nearest Cut-Off Checkpoint and getting

on the sweep bus, or ②Getting on the final sweep bus

    Cautions: During the race•Traffic is regulated on the race course, but you will be

running alongside automobiles at some locations. Please be fully alert of your surroundings as race vehicles may also run along the course.

• We may allow pedestrians to cross the course depending on the flow of runners.

•Please be mindful of the traffic when you leave the course to use toilet facilities and/or for other reasons.

    Do not change clothes in areas other than those provided by the Tokyo Marathon.

    Various restricted areas are around the finish area. Please follow the instruction and guidance of the staff.

* Six Star Hopefuls are runners who have five stars and are registered and ready to complete their Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star journey at Tokyo Marathon 2020.

To Six Star HopefulsTo receive your Six Star Finisher medal, create your profile as soon as possible on the official AbbottWMM website (https://www.worldmarathonmajors.com/claim-results/). Once you have created your profile, any results from 2006 thru today should be there for you to claim. You simply click on the “This is me” button to the right of each entry, confirm it is yours and it will appear in your profile. Once you see all five previous results listed, send an email to [email protected] and tell them you have secured a place to run in Tokyo. Someone from the AbbottWMM team will respond and explain what you need to do to receive your medal on race day.
