SKEMA STUDENTS HAVE MANY HOUSING OPTIONS IN RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA!THE RALEIGH HOUSING GUIDE 2021-2022 HAS BEEN CREATED TO HELP STUDENTS DISCOVER THE NUMEROUS HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE MOVING TO RALEIGH FOR THEIR STUDIES.

The residences listed in the Raleigh Housing Guide have been used by SKEMA students over the past few semesters and would be recommended to future students coming to study at the SKEMA Raleigh campus.

The guide is divided by housing type (on-campus or off-campus) and by residence. For each residence you will find information about the apartment types, location, services, transportation, and application procedures. Please read the information carefully when considering the different housing options. The guide also includes a list of useful websites that students can use if they would like to find an apartment/home on their own through a private owner.

Where are the residences located?

WHERE ARE THE RESIDENCES LOCATED?

PRACTICAL INFORMATION GETTING STARTED!

PRACTICAL INFORMATION GETTING STARTED!

4

For each residence we have indicated the approximate travel times (by bus, foot, and car) to get to SKEMA Raleigh Campus, NCSU Main Campus (Carmichael Gym), and the nearest supermarket. We have also indicated for each residence the students’ rating for “Location”.Students will often need to take public transportation to get around. Public transportation in Raleigh is not as extensive or as efficient as in France.

BUS

Students have free access to the various bus systems:

WOLFLINE : Free NC State bus service; Operates during weekdays: https://transportation.ncsu.edu/riding-the-wolfline-bus/

CAT BUS (Capital Area Transit): For route maps and schedules, go to: http://www.raleighnc.gov/transit/

Students are encouraged to download the Wolfline Transloc App to their smartphone in order to track exactly where their bus is and when it will arrive at their stop: http://ncsu.transloc.com/

What do I need to know about transportation?

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TRANSPORTATION?

BIKE

There are many bike trails surrounding Raleigh and within the city.

Biking is a nice alternative to taking the bus or a taxi (weather is mild in Raleigh).

For more information go to: https://transportation.ncsu.edu/bicycling/

TAXI / UBER

Taxis are less expensive (and hold more passengers) in the USA and is a good alternative when going out in the evenings. Students may also be interested in the new UBER platform to get rides around town: https://www.uber.com/cities/raleigh

“ON-CAMPUS” HOUSING refers to the student residence buildings of North Carolina State University. Only NC State students are permitted to live in “on-campus” housing. SKEMA Raleigh students can also benefit from “on-campus” housing.

Assignments to on-campus housing facilities are made on a first-come first-served basis, so the earlier your application is submitted, the more likely it is that you will get an assignment in the community of your choice.

The terms of the Agreement are for the entire academic year (Fall and Spring semesters). If you will be studying at SKEMA Raleigh for the Fall semester only, you will be able to cancel your Agreement for the Spring semester without penalty. However, if you will be studying at SKEMA Raleigh for Fall + Spring, you will be obligated to pay the housing costs for both semesters. If you are enrolled to study at SKEMA Raleigh for Fall + Spring and you decide to cancel your Agreement for the Fall semester, you will be responsible for all cancelation costs.

Again, please read the Agreement carefully!

“OFF-CAMPUS” HOUSING refers to private student residence buildings which are open to all students. SKEMA Raleigh students can reserve “off-campus” housing.Certain “off-campus” residences offer short-term leases (one semester) while others only offer long-term leases (one year). Please note that “off-campus” housing is reserved on a first-come first-served basis. When students contact an “off-campus” residence, they should always mention that they are a student of SKEMA Business School.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “ON-CAMPUS” AND “OFF-CAMPUS” HOUSING?

WHAT DOES FURNISHED EXACTLY MEAN?

A “furnished” apartment does not necessarily mean “fully-furnished”. In many cases you will find that apartments are only “partially-furnished” - so prepare yourself for what you will need to buy once you arrive in Raleigh. Often times you will need to buy some of the following items: lamps, televisions, stereos, shower curtain hooks & shower curtains, bath mats, trash cans, plates, silverware, cups, pots & pans. For your own personal space, you will need to bring your bath and grooming products as well as sheets, towels, pillows, alarm clock and whatever else makes you feel at home. For each residence we have noted things you will need to buy once in Raleigh because they are not provided by the residence.

DO I HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING BEFORE I GET TO RALEIGH?

Yes. Students will need to pay certain fees before arriving in Raleigh in order to reserve their apartment. These fees will be different for each residence. Examples of fees include application fees, administration fees, as well as security deposits or rent.

Some residences will accept payment by credit card or international wire transfer but please be aware that students will be responsible for paying any bank fees linked with sending and receiving an international wire transfer. Students must also be aware that certain residences will only accept payment by check in US Dollars. In this case, students will need to request a banker’s check in US dollars from their local bank. This can take several days to obtain and there will be additional bank fees involved. For each residence we have noted the acceptable payment methods.

“On-campus” and “off-campus” housing

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! Please note that when you submit your application online, you are signing a contract. You will be obligated to pay the housing fees for the semester. If you cancel your application after submission very high cancelation fees will apply. Please read the Agreement carefully. The different community Agreements can be found at: https://housing.ncsu.edu/agreements.

HOW TO APPLY TO WOLF VILLAGE & WOLF RIDGE

1. REGISTER WITH NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY TO RECEIVE YOUR NCSU UNITY ID AND PASSWORD (if you have already completed this step, please go directly to Step 2)

Click here to complete your registration with NCSU: http://go.ncsu.edu/gti_apply (Do NOT fill out more than one application – it creates duplicate profiles and delays the process)

Choose “Global Training Initiative” on the first page Choose “SKEMA” under Special Programs on the second page Make sure you do NOT use accents when entering your first, middle, or last names. The NCSU database does not recognize ac-

cents and your application will not be processed! Address, email, and phone information should be your current physical address and contact information in France or your home

country. Be aware that the email address you enter on the application will be the one where all your NC State information is sent to once the application has been processed! For date of birth, be sure to use the calendar icon – do not type by hand! Make sure to select the correct term of enrollment “Fall 2021 or Spring 2022” Make sure to include your country of citizenship (dual US-citizens should indicate their non-US country of citizenship and then

check the box underneath that states “I also have US Citizenship or Permanent Residency”).

Once NCSU has processed your application, you will receive an automated email with your Unity ID and a default password. You will be asked to change your password after your first log-in. Make sure you SAVE your new password because the GTI cannot access that information for you. The Unity ID and password are used to access MyPack Portal, your student email account, NC State’s wireless networks, and

many other campus services.

2. COMPLETE THE NCSU HOUSING APPLICATION FORM

Select on “Campus Living” :

Click on the link circled in red below:

DO NOT COMPLETE STEP 2 UNLESS YOU ARE 100% CERTAIN YOU WANT TO LIVE ON CAMPUS. BY FOLLOWING STEP 2, YOU WILL BE SIGNING A CONTRACT AND WILL BE OBLIGATED TO PAY THE FULL SEMESTER’S RENT.
