IntroductionIf you want to earn while you learn, an Apprenticeship could bejust what you’re looking for. Our Apprenticeship team helpsover 400 people like you into free or subsidised, work-basedtraining with local employers each year and works hard toensure that you are in the right job with the level of supportthat you need.

What are Apprenticeships? An Apprenticeship is a job with a development programmedesigned by employers in the relevant sector. This allowsapprentices to gain technical knowledge and real practicalexperience, along with functional and personal skills, requiredfor their immediate job and future career. These are achievedthrough a mix of learning in the workplace, formal off-the-jobtraining and the opportunity to practice and embed new skillsin a real work context. You, your employer and the College willagree an individual learning plan of what you are going toachieve and how.

What hours will I work? You will be employed full-time (minimum of 30 hours per week).

Earn while you learnAll apprentices must receive the appropriate national minimumwage. Apprenticeship national minimum wage rates do notapply to Higher Apprenticeships.

If you are 19 or over when you start your training you will haveto be on an Apprenticeship programme for a year before thenational minimum wage will be applied and then it will be at aspecial rate. The Apprenticeship team at the College can helpwith this.

What will I need? For some Apprenticeships, and to work with some employers, you will need specific GCSE passes or previous experience. Youwill also have an interview, where we look at your GCSE grades(actual or predicted), which will help us to decide on the bestprogramme for you. For more information, please call us on01733 762121.

How do I find employment? Our specialist team of advisors in the Apprenticeship Centrecan assist with job search and career advice. We handle manyvacancies from local employers and promote them using theFind an Apprenticeship/Traineeship websitehttps://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship.

Are you looking for the right opportunity to start yourworking career or make that step into an Apprenticeship?

If the answer is yes, then why not try a Traineeship?

Traineeships prepare young people for their future careersby helping them to become ‘work ready’. They can be astepping stone to an Apprenticeship or other work; youwill develop your skills through meaningful work experience. Traineeships are an excellent route into employment that bridges the gap between study andwork.

We have new Traineeships available in the following areas:

• Business Administration• Construction• Hair and Beauty• Horticulture/Landscaping• Hospitality• Motor Vehicle

Traineeships are a new opportunity for young people aged 16-24 years old and are designed to develop your workplace skills and give significant work experience.

What is involved in a Traineeship?

• All trainees complete valuable work experience that has real job role responsibilities for a period of up to six months

• Trainees are given an initial short preparation period in college and then progress to one day per week in college and up to four days per week in the work place

• Traineeships are flexible, learners are encouraged to progress into work or an apprenticeship at the earliest opportunity

• Trainees spend time developing their maths, English and work related skills during their college study day

Traineeships are available to start throughout the year.

For more information or to enquire about start datesplease contact Marc Stewart on 01733 863065.
