It’s called quattro® permanent all-wheeldrive. The principle is simple: in the same way that four brakes ensure better deceleration, four permanently-driven wheels deliver better acceleration and road-holding, pushing or pulling the car as needed, for a driving experience that’s both dynamic and safe. In the A5, asymmetric dynamic torque distribution continuously distributes drive power between the front and rear axles, depending on weather conditions, road surface and gradient. This leads to greater flexibility and an enhanced, sportier drive.

In addition, within system limits, it can also recognise the beginning and end of motorways, main roads, built-up areas and traffic-calmed zones, and displays the relevant speed limit. A situational display and evaluation is also carried out, within system limits, when driving in the wet, when there are speed limits for certain times of day and whentowing a trailer². If a traffic sign is located outside of the visual range of the camera, the information is called up from the data in the MMI navigation or MMI navigation plus with MMI touch, provided it is stored in the respective system. The traffic sign recognition display appears automatically in the instrument cluster display and the Audi virtual cockpit and can be configured via the multifunction steering wheel. Up to 3 traffic signs can be shown exclusively, or the compulsory sign currently relevant can be shown as an additional display for another system (e. g. digital speed display). The system is for information purposes only. In the MMI, it is also possible to select a traffic sign-based warning when a detected speed limit is exceeded.

Parking system plus, acoustic and visual front and rear parking system assists with parking and manoeuvring. With selective visual view in the MMI display of the distance to detected objects based on the current steering angle and direction of travel. A white segment indicates a detected obstacle outside the driving path. Red segments represent obstacles in the driving path. The virtual lane display additionally provides guidelines at the sides, which are calculated in advance based on the current steering angle, thus supporting comfortable entering and exiting of parking spaces. Measurement is by ultrasonic sensors integrated discreetly in the bumpers. Activated by selecting reverse gear, via a button on the centre console and automatically as soon as the distance to a detected object is less than approximately 90 cm.

The parking path is calculated for bay parking spaces, and the path for leaving the parking space is additionally calculated for kerb-side parking spaces. Audi side assist including Audi pre sense rear, lane change assistant, working within system limits, it helps the driver when changing lanes (operational from around 15 to maximum 250 km/h). Audi side assist uses 2 radar sensors to measure the distance and the speed differential of the identified vehicles that are approaching your vehicle from behind. If Audi side assist deems the speed differential and the distance critical for a lane-changing manoeuvre, the driver is alerted by means of a display in the relevant exterior mirror. Activation via MMI car menu Working within system limits, Audi pre sense rear uses additionally installed radar sensors to detect possible rear-end collisions. The front seat belts are tensioned electrically as a preventive measure. Similarly, the windows and – if installed – the slide-and-tilt glass sunroof are closed. The hazard warning lights are activated at a faster flashing frequency to warn traffic in the vicinity. Exit warning and cross traffic assist rear are also included in combination with the optional parking system plus or park assist. When the vehicle is stationary, exit warning can detect vehicles and cyclists approaching from the rear and, if necessary, warn the passengers before opening the door. The warning is in the form of a bright flashing warning LED in the appropriate door. Cross traffic assist rear helps the driver when reversing out of bay parking spaces. The system notifies the driver about detected approaching vehicles in the MMI display and, in situations recognised as especially critical, can additionally warn the driver with a warning tone and, if necessary, by briefly tapping the brakes.
