Light with an opened book - Light is referred to Jyothi and God, at times,

manifests in the form of light, Jyothiswarupa. The opened book stands for Vedas,

Upanishads and all other treatises including those of Ayruveda, Artha Sastra,

Neeti Sastras meant for study, learning and practicing for the welfare of Society

human beings and that of the individual himself.

Vidyaya amrita masnute -It is an excerpt from 11 th Sloka of

ISAVASYOPANISHAD. “Man gets immortality by Education” is the meaning

of the same extract.

Education from the perceptive of Indians is under two categories namely: -

Apara Vidya and Para Vidya

Apara Vidya is mundane education. It includes all Medical Sciences,

Dharma Sastras, books of Law and Code of Conduct, Economics, Political Science

(Neeti Sastras), Astronomy, Astrology, Chemical Engineering and other Technical

Education. They are necessarily meant for the welfare of society in which an

individual is a constituent member.

Para Vidya is Spiritual Educationmeant for the upliftment of an

individual. Man is a mixture of good and bad. Man is essentially a divine spark

conditioned by ignorance. Para Vidya includes Upanishads, Vedas and Vedantic

treatises. Brahma Sutras and Upanishads play an important role in Spiritual

Education. They come to the rescue of Human beings to help individually to

remove the veil of ignorance there by making man immortal.

Upanishads, which constitute the end portions and aim of the Vedas,

breathe the pure fragrance of eternally fresh dialogues of truth between earnest

seeker and eminent self-realization, Philosophy and Spiritualism. They are the

fountain head of all Vedas, Culture and ideal ethical conduct of man. The excerpt

is from the ISAVASYOPANISHAD and the actual sloka runs the –

Isavasyopanishad Sloka 11.

Transliteration:

Vidyamavidyam ca yas tad VedobhayamSaha

avidyayamrtyumtirtaVidyayaamritamasnute

Meaning: He, who understands Vidya is immortal.

Man becomes immortal by studying and practising Mundane Education

and Spiritual Education by following Jnana Yoga and Karma Yoga.Man,by

transgressing death reaches immortality. There after no rebirth to individual takes

place. Man attains Self-realization experiencing the bliss of Brahman, all pervading

omniscient and omnipotent God. Thus, by education Man attains immortality.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE

It is proud to say that Government College, Kadapa first located at

Zilla Parishad Building, Kadapa in 1948. Later, Hon’ble Chief Minister

Sri C. Rajagopala Chari laid foundation stone on 14th June, 1952 for the present

existing structure and after the construction under the name Government Arts

College, Kadapa was opened by Lt. Col. Diwan Bahadur, Sir A.

Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Madras on 4th

February, 1955 as a composite college with Intermediate and conventional degree

courses-B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc. However, in 1958, it offered courses with various

combinations. Later, it was renamed as ‘Government College for Men’. In 1996

it was bifurcated into Intermediate and Graduation.

Ever since, considerable changes have been taking place in ameliorating

the standards of the degree courses. As per the instructions of the C.C.E., restructured

courses i.e. ’need-based’ courses have been introduced to cater to the needs of the

stakeholders to face the modern competitive world. To that extent, ‘Sumabala

Computer lab’ has been established. Besides, for the effectiveness, manifold facilities

have been provided for the students.

Vision:

Empowerment of stakeholders through knowledge and inculcation of values

for exposure to Global Competence.

Mission:

Ø To mould the students as responsible citizens with intellectual excellence

and integrity.

Ø To facilitate optimum use of human and natural resources for sustainable

development by enriching competitive skills.

Milestones:

Ø In course of time, to accommodate the students, the college has introduced

6 PG courses viz, M.Com., M.A. Telugu, M.Sc. Zoology, M.Sc. Physics,

M.Sc. Botany and M.Sc. Chemistry.

Ø In 2004, the College was accredited by NAAC at B++ under Cycle I.

Ø Further, School of Commerce block was constructed to expand infrastructure

to meet the relevant changing times, so as to accommodate the students in

various combinations to provide opportunities for the aspirants.

Ø In 2012, the college was accredited and annexed ‘B’ grade by NAAC under

Cycle II.

Ø Conferred Autonomous status by UGC, New Delhi during the academic

year 2010-11.

- 7 -- 6 -

PROGRAMS & COURSE COMBINATIONSØ The institution was selected for RUSA in the academic year 2015-16.

Ø Students have bagged 20 Pratibha Awards so far.

been pursuing Projects.

Acquisition of Autonomous Status: -

Ø UGC conferred the autonomous status to the institution in the middle of

the academic year 2011-12.However, it came into force from the academic

year 2012-13.

Ø The pass percentage, year by year has been gradually improving. We hope

that the pass percentage may be increased with the introduction of new

pattern. Above all, it enables the students of different caliber to encounter

present day challenges with much confidence and agility.

Ø In order to implement the Autonomous procedure from the academic year

2012-13, the then Principal Sri K.S. Ramanjaneyulu had taken initiative

for the constitution of the Board of Studies after consulting the staff council

and the higher authorities of Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa.

DISTRICT RESOURCE CENTRE (DRC)

Introduction:

The DRC (District Resource Centre) in Government College for

Men (A), Kadapa was established in 2007. Ever since, it has been

undertaking several productive activities in the best interest of different

institutions and stakeholders. Presently, Dr. N. Subbanarasaiah, the Principal

is the chairman and Mr. K.N. Sundareswara Rao, Lecturer in Telugu, is the

Co-ordinator from the year 2017 – 2018.

Concept:

Government Degree Colleges are spread across the state in all the

districts. Most of them are located in rural and semi urban areas. They

mostly serve the students from poor and under-privileged sections of the

society. The students of colleges located in rural areas face disadvantages

like infrastructural and teacher shortages, lack of exposure to modern

educational atmosphere and inadequate background support. They need

additional support. Although each district has about 8 to 12 Government

Degree Colleges and they are working as total individual entities so far.

Pooling and sharing of resources will benefit students of all colleges

especially rural colleges.

The Government Degree Colleges in each district, therefore, were

networked with a select government college in the district, called the District

Resource Centre (DRC). Yearlong activities are planned and implemented

by the colleges of the district under the DRC for the benefit of students in

the subject and general areas. The DRCs are expected to tentatively

compensate some of the disadvantages faced by the students of all colleges,

especially the rural colleges.

- 17 -- 16 -

Objectives:

Ø Identifying the subject, student need and shortages.

Ø Pooling and sharing the resources for the benefit of all students,

especially the rural students.

Ø District-level crash programmes, seminars, workshops etc. for the

teachers for improving their awareness and skills in teaching.

Ø A variety of district-level regular programmes,workshops and summer

programmes for students from all the colleges of the district, in areas

such as subjects, skills, career, employment etc Strengthening the

existing infrastructural, material and human resources.

JAWAHAR KNOWLEDGE CENTRE (JKC)

Government of Andhra Pradesh initiated JKC in 2005 as a

reliable solution to the problem of unemployment faced by students

studying non-professional courses in Degree colleges of AP. The ever-

a growing demand for hard working and talented students, good in

computer skills, communication skills and industry related skills. The

doors of global job market are opened to students who can speak

fluently, compute quickly, write legibly and analyse logically.

Jawahar Knowledge Centre’s primary aim is to provide

intensive training to students in employable skills and enable students

and marginalized sections of thesociety. Students from rural areas

who have no access to advantages experienced by their urban

counterparts are provided the latest technologies and opportunities to

class infrastructure and experienced faculty are totally dedicated to

students and totally involved in providing the best training to help the

students climb the ladder of success. JKC helps students to realize

their potential and aim high in life and particularly it motivates and

encourages students to be creative, independent and self-reliant. JKC

Centre helps students in colleges gain confidence and the ability to

contribute to the economic and intellectual prosperity of the country.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME(NSS)

MOTTO of NSS

The motto of our NSS is ”NOT ME BUT YOU”, which reflects

the essence of democratic living and upholds the needs for service.

National Service Scheme (NSS) is Indian government-

sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth

Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Popularly known as NSS.The

scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, 1969. Aimed at

developing student’s personality through community service, NSS is a

voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2

level working for a campus-community linkage.

Organization

At national level, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India is

the nodal authority, which works with state-level NSS cells. State-level NSS

cells are responsible of the respective state governments. Within states, each

university has University level NSS cell under which institutions (schools

and colleges) based NSS units operate. Most government and government-

aided institutions have NSS units. Institutions are encouraged to have NSS

units. A unit typically comprises 20–40 students. They are managed internally

by a responsible program officer from the school or college, who reports to

the regional NSS coordinator.

Types of Activities

There are two types of activities: Regular Activities (120 hours)

and Annual Special Camp (120 hours). All the NSS Volunteers, who have

served NSS for at least 2 years and have performed 240 hours of work

under NSS are entitled to get a certificate from the university with the

signature of the Vice-Chancellor and the Program Coordinator. The Annual

camps are known as Special Camps. Camps are held annually, funded by

the government of India, and are usually located in a rural village or a city

suburb. Volunteers may be involved in such activities as:

• Cleaning

• Afforestation

• Stage shows or a procession creating awareness of such issues as social

problems, education and cleanliness

• Awareness Rallies

• Inviting doctors for health camps

There are no predefined or pre-assigned tasks; it is left to the

volunteers to provide service in any way that is feasible. Camps typically

last between a week and 10 days, although camps for shorter periods are

also conducted by NSS.

NSS UNIT-I and UNIT-II were started in our college
