VOCAL Lorraine Reinhardt - Vocal

Lorraine Reinhardt is a graduate with distinction of the University of

Saskatchewan Bachelor of Music program. While there she was a student of

Dorothy Howard and Greta Clark. Since moving to Vancouver, Lorraine has

studied with Arlene McIntyre and has participated in various workshops and

master classes, most frequently sponsored by the National Association of

Teachers of Singing (NATS). She is a past winner of the Provincial Senior

Voice class of the BC Kiwanis Festival.

Lorraine has sung with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, one of Canada’s professional choirs, since

1988. She was a founding member of Elektra Women’s Choir and sang with them until 1999. She

has often been heard as soloist with these choirs both in concert and on recordings. She has sung

throughout Canada and on the CBC, as well as internationally.

Lorraine has worked with such conductors as John Aldis, Tonu Kaljuste, Georg Tintner, Frieder

Bernius, Helmut Rilling and David LaMarche, as well as Jon Washburn, Diane Loomer and Morna

Edmundson. She is an oratorio soloist and recitalist.

Lorraine has been teaching in her private studio since 1977, and was on the voice faculty of the

Music Department of Kwantlen University College in Langley from its opening in 1993 until 2007.

She was voice coach to Chor Leoni Men’s Choir until 2010. She is currently a member of NATS and

is active in the Vancouver Chapter. In July 2004 she was appointed as District Governor for NATS

in British Columbia, a position she held for four years.

Lorraine has directed choirs of many descriptions from high school concert to Broadway musical

chorus, and church choirs of all ages and sizes. She is in demand to lead workshops on singing

technique, church choir repertoire and choral technique. She has adjudicated festivals throughout

BC.

PIANO

Stephen Smith - Piano

Listeners, critics, and audience members know Stephen Smith as "a sensitive and

dynamic performer" with a "highly poetic touch" and "superb musicianship which

illuminates everything he plays." Simon Carrington (one of the founding members of the

Kings Singers) has called Stephen "a magnificent pianist," saying, "It's a privilege to

hear such beautiful playing!" And renowned pianist Jane Coop has called her former

student "an extremely intelligent and perceptive musician who has great facility and

strength in his technique. His performances are fascinating programmatically and

intriguing musically. He is dynamic and exciting on stage, with a compelling, persuasive

temperament."

Stephen grew up in rural Nova Scotia, where he sang and played the piano from an early

age. After initial studies in his home province in both piano and organ, he attended the Royal Northern College

of Music in Manchester, England. While there, he participated in national and international competitions and

won numerous awards and distinctions. Since 1990, Stephen has lived in Vancouver, obtaining his doctoral

degree in piano performance from the University of British Columbia, and contributing to the musical life of

the city as a performer, teacher, arranger and composer.

Central to Stephen's career is his long-standing relationship with some of the city's finest choral groups. He has

accompanied the Vancouver Men’s Chorus since 1991, and has directed their a cappella ensemble, Synergy,

since 1998. Dollowing 10 years as assistant conductor of the Vancouver Bach Choir, he currently acts as its

pianist. He has accompanied Elektra women's choir since 2001 and, in addition, he is a frequent collaborator

with Chor Leoni, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and many other ensembles.

Stephen’s work as both accompanist and composer can be heard on dozens of CDs in commercial release, and

his 1997 solo CD of classical piano miniatures, entitled Kaleidoscope, is currently available on iTunes.
