Introduction to Polyurea for the Applicator and Contractor Monday, 14 November, 08:30 – 12:30 One of our most popular courses designed specifically with the applicator and contractor in mind, this session expands on topics of physical properties of polyurea, application procedures and techniques, and advances in and types of equipment. Trainer: Stefan Priemen, Huntsman Europe Price: Member 135 EUR Non Member 240 EUR On-site registration possible, payment by credit card only

Surface Preparation Course Improperly prepared metal surfaces can result in reduced coating performance and service life. The greates percen-tage of coating failures can be traced directly to poor sur-face preparation, which affects coating adhesion. The cor-rect preparation of metal surfaces, starts with the coating-compatible design of the steel surface and the components, the procedures for removing of any types of contaminants, which can cause failures of the coating by way of preven-ting a bond from developing, and the methods to receive a proper surface profile to increase the bond strength of the coating system. More details on surface evaluation and pre-paration techniques supported by practical demonstrations.

Tuesday, 15 November 2011 Dinner reception at Kurhaus Hotel

Ideally situated on the boulevard near the royal city of The Hague, with a spectacular view

of the beach and the sea, The Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen is known as the

Grande Dame of the North Sea coast. Historically stylish with modern elegance, it enjoys a

reputation as one of the Netherlands' finest hotels.

The hotel was built between 1884 and 1885 by the German architects Johann Friedrich Hen-

kenhaf and Friedrich Ebert. It consisted originally of a concert hall and a hotel with 120

rooms. Having suffered serious damage by fire, it was rebuilt between 1886 and 1887. The

ceilings were painted by the Brussels artist Van Hoeck and his large workshop. Several kings

and heads of state sojourned in the Kurhaus during its heyday. Until the 1960s the Kurhaus remained an attraction to the

public by the many performances of top artists. One of the last performances was by the Rolling Stones in 1965. Fallen

into disrepair and closed in 1969, the Kurhaus was saved from demolition in 1975 by being listed as a historical building.

It is now completely renovated into the high-class Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel (the only hotel in the Netherlands of the

German hotel chain Steigenberger Hotel Group) and casino.

The dinner will take place in the Kurzaal Restaurant & Bar and will be accompanied by resident pianists.

In the past, the Kurzaal was a concert hall where occurred once famous orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic Orches-

tra, as well as Marlene Dietrich, Pablo Casals, Julia Culp, Frank Sinatra, Edith Piaf and the Rolling Stones. It has been

restored to the original plans of 1885 and is now classified a historical monument.

Site Applied Gelcoat Refurbishment Using Polyaspartic Technology Steven Reinstadtler (Bayer BMS) Tuesday, 15 November, 10:00 - 10:30

The presentation will share new developments in polyaspartic technology that allows contractors to repair aged gel-coat originally used as a topcoat/wearcoat over fiberglass composites and other architectural substrates by using this environmentally preferred option. Via processing, physical property, and weatherability comparisons traditional coatings and gelcoats will be compared with this new technology which affords the applicator and owner significant benefits such as long term durability, rapid re-deployment, ultra-low VOC, no added heavy metals or phthalates, and no styrene odor. This technology based on the proven power of polyaspartic chemistry can be applied in a thick one coat process which allows the con-tractor to eliminate time consuming multi-coat options and offers the owner a more durable and sustainable solution to their gelcoat problems. Case studies and markets will be discussed including amusement and water parks.

Steven Reinstadtler is the Industrial Marketing Manager - Construction Coatings at Bayer Materi-alScience. He has been with Bayer MaterialScience for 22 years working in a variety of technical and mar-keting positions in both the Polyurethanes and Coatings divisions. Steven holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry with a Polymer Science option from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a member of the board of directors for the PDA in the U.S. as well as chairs several coatings committees for other organizations such as the SSPC. Steven works closely with companies and organizations that build infrastructure with durability and sustainability in mind.

New Amine Raw Materials Enhance Formulator Options Geert Dries (Huntsman Performance Products) Tuesday, 15 November, 9:30 - 10:00

Geert started working for ICI in Belgium in 1992 in the R&D department for rigid poly-urethanes. Since than, he worked on various applications like rigid foam, elastomers and foot-waer in various locations in Europe and the United States. In 2006, Geert took up the role as technical service teamleader coatings in EAME. Since Oct 1st 2011, Geert will be PU catalyst manager EAME within the performance products division of HUNTSMAN. Geert has a bachelor‘s degree in organic chemistry since 1992.

In a polyurea coating, the amines constitute only part of the system, but they have a critical role in dictating the final properties of the coating. Huntsman amine raw materials for polyurea is in a continual research and development cy-cle, supported by strong technical expertise. The presentation will give an update on the most recent developments, how the new amines can modify a polyurea system and create new formulation options.

PRESENTATIONS AND CASES STUDIES Page 9

Polyurea as Roofing, Waterproofing Material - Actual European and German regulation Inga Hohberg (Deutsche Bauchemie e.v.) Tuesday, 15 November, 11:00 - 11:30

Polyurea products can be used for a wide range of different applications and there are many possibilities to introduce polyurea products into several technical harmonized CEN-Standards or other technical regulations like ETAGs. For Polyurea as roofing or waterproofing material the national application standards in Germany are relatively complex. The presentation will give an overview on the actual standardization activities in Germany for this sector and an out-look on the future regulation. The strategy how to introduce polyurea products in the German standardization as well as a short overview on the environmental regulations is given.

Inga Hohberg - has studied chemistry at the University of Aachen 9 years from 1982 to 1991, She has worked as scientist at ―Institute for building materials research of Aachen University‖ until 2000. 2000 she became a PhD in Civil engineering. Since 2002 referent of ―German Indus-try Association for Construction Chemicals‖. Inga is member of several German and European Standardization Committees dealing with technical and environmental properties of construc-tion chemicals.

Polyurea is not Only for Roof Waterproofing Gianni Farina (Zetagi) Tuesday, 15 November, 11:30 - 12:00

Gianni Farina, graduated in chemical engineering, is active in the field of steel and concrete protection since more than 30 years, serving as manager in Imperi-talia (Torino), Veneziani (Milano) and Veneziani Sinitalia (Milano). He is the con-venor of the UNI anticorrosion committee. Presently is working as responsible of the Veneziani Concrete Protection Division in ZETAGI srl, who has acquired for-mulations, products and brands previously belonging to the Veneziani group .

PUA is commonly considered as applied mainly for roof waterproofing, but, in fact, there are many other special cases in which it is the best solution. We are showing some particular applications of PUA, which are not so usual: - anticorrosion protection of a steel bridge; - waterproofing of joints on a dam; - flooring in a wine factory; - anticorrosion protection of concrete mixing equipments; - surface treatment of composite facade elements. Presentation will demonstrate that, in consideration of its characteristics of tensile strength, elastic module, elonga-tion, abrasion resistance, PUA can be used to solve many different problems with excellent results.

Page 10 PRESENTATION AND CASE STUDIES

New UV/Color Stable Spray Aliphatic Polyurea Coating Technology Samuel L. Lane (Albemarle) Tuesday, 15 November, 14:30 - 15:00

The vast majority of spray polyurea coating systems in commercial use today are aromatic based. These aromatic coat-ings have excellent physical properties and a long successful track record in the field. However, the UV/color stability of these systems is poor, due to the aromatic content of the system. A thin aliphatic (polyaspartic) topcoat can be applied to improve color stability, however, the topcoat is susceptible to removal in high abrasion environments. Fully aliphatic spray polyurea coatings do not discolor upon UV exposure, but cure very rapidly making commercial formula-tion difficult. Ethacure® 90 is a versatile new aliphatic amine curative having moderate cure speed, allowing the for-mulation of robust fully aliphatic spray polyurea coatings. New aliphatic coatings based on Ethacure® 90 and HDI polyi-socyanates have very good physical properties, comparable to commercial aromatic offerings. The moisture transmis-sion rate through these new aliphatic coatings is 2-2.5 times lower than aromatic systems. This improved moisture barrier performance allows application of the aliphatic coating at thicknesses nominally half that typically used in aro-matic systems. Examples of recent commercial applications using Ethacure® 90 based aliphatic polyurea spray coatings will be presented.

Samuel L. Lane - Sam received his BS in chemical engineering from Stanford University (1988) and his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Houston (1993). He was with Dupont/Invista from 1993-2008 where he worked in various roles in R&D, technology, marketing and business development. Currently, he is Business Development Manager with Albemarle‘s Polymer Solutions business, and is based at their corporate headquarters in Ba-ton Rouge, Louisiana. Sam is currently on the PDA Board of Directors in the US.

Requirements to Coating Systems in Civil Engineering Practice Eberhard Klueber (BASF SE, Infrastructure and Plant Service, Civil Engineering) Tuesday, 15 November, 14:00 - 14:30

Polyurea for Bridge Deck Waterproofing Acc. To ETAG 033 Jürgen Magner (Kiwa Polymer Institut) Tuesday, 15 November, 15:00 - 15:30

Since 2010 the European Guideline ETAG 033 for liquid applied bridge deck waterproofing kits is employable and the first European Technical Approval (ETA) is in preparation exactly for polyurea. The speech will contain all the steps for testing, sampling, execution of tests, long time exposures, requirements and the administrative procedure to obtain an ETA.

Jürgen Magner - After studies of chemistry since 1982 working in the construction chemicals field former as head of application department, manager for marketing and export for any kind of reac-tion resins. Since 1991, co-owner of Polymer Institut. Since 2008, managing director of Kiwa Polymer Institut.

In the current civil engineering practice of the chemical industry a lot of different coating systems are absolutely essential. The presentation gives a review of the currently used different systems, their area of application and a summary of their pros and cons. Also some open items and engineer-ing problems with up to now unsatisfactory answers will be presented and hopefully polyurea can provide some solutions.

1973 – 1978 Student, TU Darmstadt, Qualification: Dipl.-Ing. 1978 – 1981 Construction Manager, Bilfinger + Berger Bau AG 1981 – 1986 Scientific staff member, TU Darmstadt, Qualification: Dr.-Ing.

Drinking Down Under: Great Idea, Second Thoughts, the Right Path Dudley J. Primeaux II (Primeaux Associates LLC) Tuesday, 15 November, 16:00 - 16:30

Thick-film elastomeric coating / lining systems have excellent performance characteristics in a variety of potable water lining work; including the polyurea spray elastomer technology. While some have cast doubt on the suitability of a po-lyurea system for immersion applications, there are a variety of commercial products with the NSF/ASNI-61 certifica-tion for potable water use that are performing quite well. Much of the myth around failures can be identified by im-proper specification work and incorrect material selection for the specific application. Even though a proper system is selected and applied, improper surface preparation and / or spray application techniques can lead to application fai-lures. The same is true for other coating / lining technologies as well. Having the proper training, material selection and proper guidance can lead to a successful application. This paper will discuss a recent major concrete potable wa-ter storage tank lining application, the challenges faced; and, the solution that led to success in Australia.

Dudley is a consultant and owner of Primeaux Associates LLC with work relating to the polyurea in-dustry, equipment, application and training as well as inspection work. He has also been directly involved in robotic pipelining work relating to equipment and polyurea spray elastomer system de-velopment for use. He also co-developed and instructed the Polyurea Development Association‘s Polyurea Applicator Spray Course. He has a B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Chemistry from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and was employed by Texaco Chemical Company, Huntsman Corporation and a Partner in EnviroChem Technologies, LLC, before forming Primeaux Associates LLC in 2001. Dudley is active in NACE, SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings and Past-President and past-member of the Board of Directors of the Polyurea Development Association (PDA). He has also com-pleted the SSPC-PCS, Protective Coatings Specialist and CCI Concrete Coatings Inspector certifica-

tions. Dudley also serves at Chairman of the SSPC C.1.9 Polyurea Committee. He is also an active member of ASTM Work Group WK23937, Standard Practice for Renewal of Existing Potable Water Pipes by Spray in Place Pipe – Polyurea and Polyurethane Coatings, and AWWA Manual of Practice 28, Methods for the Renewal of Potable Water Pipes. He is named inventor of 26 US Patents and 8 European Patents on polyurethane and polyurea foam applications as well as polyurea spray elastomer systems/applications. He is an accomplished author having over 50 technical publications relating to the polyurea elastomeric coating and lining technology, performance testing and inspection, as well as sev-eral chapters in SSPC delivered book publications.

Polyurea in the Scene Teodoro Du Marteau (N.T.E. S.r.l.) Tuesday, 15 November, 16:30 - 17:00

Teodoro Du Marteau, Chartered Chemical Engineer, 35 years dealing with the formulation and production of coatings for concrete, steel, wood and other materials, since 1995 also deals with polyuera, being among the first in Italy to deal with it. Being a direct producer since 2002 Teodoro has become one of the most important producer in Italy.

Scenography is one of the sectors where polyurea has developed the most. In the past as well as today, it has always been applied until the achievement of a ―shell‖ structure, which gives consistency to the scenography. It has also been used in television and movie theaters and is nowadays also used in huge shopping malls especially in recrea-tional areas addressed to children.

The ColorForm Processing - a World’s First to Realize High Gloss and Scratch Resistant Sur-faces with Aliphatic Polyurea Thomas Moch (Panadur) Tuesday, 15 November, 17:00 - 17:30

The ColorForm processing method, which was developed by KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH in cooperation with PANADUR and other partners, is setting new standards in process integration. The ColorForm engineers‘ main goal was to make extremely sophisticated surfaces in closed tools possible. While products need to be cleaned and sometimes primed or masked in conventional finishing processes, the all new Color-Form method proves that finishing is also possible with a difference in time, energy and cost efficiency. The solution is a fusion of interdisciplinary technology, of injection moulding and reaction technology, which allows multi-part components to be manufactured in a single stage with extended functions, as well as optimized haptic properties in various spots and top quality surfaces. This fusion of different processing methods (injection moulding and reaction technology) has been perfected with the ColorForm method.

Dr. Moch holds a PhD in solid-state physics and has worked in leading positions at various research institutions, unions and corporations, including at the faculty for natural sciences (Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg) and at IST Strahl Technologie GmbH. His most recent posi-tions before joining PANADUR were in consulting for research into vacuums and in the field of polymer research as head of the Harzer Centre for Innovation at tti Magdeburg GmbH. Dr. Moch has been active in the field of nano structuring of polymeric surfaces for ten years.

Park Deck Protected with Polyurea Cees Moorman (BASF Polyurethanes Benelux) Wednesday, 16 November, 13:30 - 14:00

Cees Moorman started his career in 1978 as a mechanical process engineer with a company special-ized in the production of polyurethane roof insulation solutions. In 1983 he moved to the Polymer Chemical Company BV where he was working on several polyurethane applications, after 1997 pri-marily on the application and market development of polyurea products. He is stationed out of the Netherlands, working on application with polyurea on a variety of substrates but mainly focusing on concrete and applications in the transport branch. Now is employed by BASF polyurethanes Benelux B.V. as a Business Team Leader for their CASE business in the Benelux.

Any traditional park deck needs to be protected with a waterproofing membrane to prevent leakage. This leakage, es-pecially in wintertime when salt is used to de-ice, will cause deterioration of the concrete and the rebar. Also the joints between the concrete need to be sealed and remain permanently flexible, since an expansion joint are designed to expand and contract! BASF developed a system for this exact application based upon a permanent flexible aromatic spray able Polyurea with an antiskid finish using the same material, this system is CE marked conform the EN 1504-2 and yields a class 3 antiskid rating.

PDA Europe Applicator Spray Course in a Glance Alain Van Oorsouw (BASF Polyurethanes Benelux) Wednesday, 16 November, 14:00 - 14:30

Alain van Oorsouw started his carreer at BASF Polyurethanes Benelux BV after finishing a polytechnic degree in chemical engineering in 1999. Initially the focus was on quantifying the existing coating systems but quickly the focus was changed to developing, implement-ing and modifying polyurea and other spray elastomer applications. In this position he also joined the PDA as a board member in 2008 whereafter he has been leading the Applicator Spray Courses until present day.

The PDA Europe Applicator Spray course is a training event organized twice a year throughout Europe for applicators specifically. The goal of this training is to provide insight into to polyurea chemistry, processing, equipment operation and successful project completion. This presentation will give an outline on the topics presented during the training sessions to provide insight into the purpose and goals of these training sessions in more detail.

Get ready for UTECH Europe!

The major UTECH Europe 2012 exhibition and conference for the polyurethanes industry is fast coming over the horizon and, as in 2009, the Polyurea Development Association Europe has been allotted a half-day session in the conference to update delegates on the latest developments in this fast-growing business. But this major event is broader than that: running 17-19 April 2012 in the Maastricht Exhibition and Congress Centre, in Maastricht, the Netherlands, it brings together all the major suppliers of raw materials, ancillary chemicals and pro-cessing equipment in an exhibition which attracts all the world's suppliers and more than three thousand visitors. In just three days you can meet all the major companies in this business sector, including your major raw material sup-pliers, such as BASF AG, Bayer MaterialScience, Dow Polyurethanes and Huntsman Polyurethanes not forgetting the major Chinese raw material supplier, Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes Co. Ltd, now a significant player in the European sector, following its recent acquisition of the BorsodChem operations in Hungary.

Wide-ranging conference In addition, the wide-ranging conference running in parallel with the exhibition is expected to attract several hundred polyurethane specialists, eager to hear about the latest technical developments in all areas of the industry including, of course, the polyureas business. These specialists will have the chance to hear the leading specialists from the world's major companies, detailing the latest research and development results from their major laboratories around the world. The full list of exhibitors at UTECH Europe 2012 is already available, and the comprehensive programme for the confe-rence is to be released shortly. Simply visit www.utecheurope.eu for the latest state of play. You can plan your visit there too, with details of hotels and travel possibilities all presented on the website.

PDA Europe present too! In just three days you will have the chance to meet and discuss your future raw material requirements, update your technical understanding, and network with your colleagues in the polyureas business. UTECH Europe 2012 will see the polyurethanes world all in one place! And the PDAE will also be there, so come and meet us and discuss any issues you are facing in developing your business: and make sure you come to the PDAE conference session, running 10:00-13:00h on 19 April, to hear about the latest business possibilities and technical advances. The UTECH Europe 2012 event is organised by Crain Communications Ltd, publishers of Urethanes Technology Interna-tional magazine and other speciality polymer magazines, based in Croydon, UK. Page 26 ANTI-TRUST GUIDELINES

Guidelines for PDA Europe Members and Conference Participants on the Application of Anti-Trust / Competition Rules to Trade Association

1. Activities of trade associations must comply with the relevant competition/antitrust rules. The same basic principles that govern anti-competitive arrangements also apply when trade associations are used to co-ordinate commercial activities.

2. Violations of competition laws carry serious consequences. For example, the starting level for a cartel fine

in the European Union (EU) is €20 million per company. This figure can be adjusted depending on the circumstances (up to a maximum of 10% of the annual turnover of the entire group to which that company belongs). Under EU law, it is also expressly provided that trade associations themselves can be made subject to a fine up to 10% of their turnover.

3. Competition/antitrust authorities in the U.S., the EU and elsewhere are focusing increasingly on the

activities of trade associations. The suspicion is that such associations are a cover for cartel-like behaviour (e.g., price-fixing, collective discrimination, etc.).

4. International cooperation among antitrust enforcement authorities is also evident. It is no longer

uncommon for governments – particularly the U.S., the EU, Canada and Japan – to coordinate simultaneous searches, service of subpoenas, and ‗drop-in‘ interviews (‗dawn raids‘) to avoid premature disclosure of an investigation and the possible destruction of evidence.

5. As with U.S. antitrust law, it is not necessary for arrangements violating EU competition rules to occur in

the territory of the EU.

6. Equally important, competition concerns will also arise where there is no actual effect on competition in

the market concerned. The authorities will intervene where they perceive there to be a potential effect, even where that effect is not intended.

7. In general, it should be borne in mind that competition/antitrust rules prohibit arrangements between

competitors, which are intended (or have the effect) to achieve aims such as the following:

price-fixing: almost any activity, which would allow its members to co-ordinate their pricing policies;

market-sharing or customer allocation: activities aimed at dividing the given market concerned into distinct territorial markets or allocating customer groups;

collective boycotts: a requirement to deal only with other members or to boycott other firms;

information-exchange arrangements: in general, all exchanges of business information (such as pricing policies, costs or sales figures) between competitors, which would allow them to co-ordinate their commercial strategies.

8. In addition, certain types of activity particular to trade associations are subject of specific consideration

including:

the setting of membership criteria of a trade association,

research and development carried out or co-ordinated by a trade association,

joint publicity and promotion of the generic products by a trade association,

product standardisation, certification and quality measures administered through trade associations.

9. This brief note and the ―Dos‖ and ―Don‘ts‖ are intended to give general guidance only with regard to

competition/antitrust laws. Before taking action, particularly regarding any assessment of risk, companies are advised to request specific advice from the relevant legal counsel.

products, including proposed territories or customers;

· Matters relating to potential individual suppliers that might give the effect either of excluding them
