Newsletter a Division of Makakwute Innovative Limited Volume 1, Issue 1 September 2017
Lã-Mida Lehae Farms
I am delighted to introduce Lã-Mida News-letter the first newsletter for Lehae Farms
a Division of Makakwute Innovative Limited. Lã-Mida provides a really exciting oppor-
tunity to consider the truly interdisciplinary nature of agriculture at a time of great
change across the country, with huge em-
phasis from government on agriculture.
The objective of Lã-Mida is to publish up-to-
date, high-quality and original research newsletter alongside relevant and insightful
reviews.
As such, the newsletter aspires to be vi-brant, engaging and accessible, and at the
same time integrative and challenging.
Each issue of the newsletter will contain contemporary and provocative “opinion
piece” on an issue or synthesis of issues pertinent to the marketing and management
of farms in general.
It will also provide a critical and concise yet comprehensive and contemporary review of
a particular theme specific to the marketing
and management of agricultural business.
It will be more traditional in form and will
demonstrate a sound theoretical and/or methodological underpinning and a clear
contribution to knowledge in the field.
I am honored to be entrusted with a news-letter that is established to provide insight
and meaningful news to our customers and employees. Lã-Mida is a publication that just
report on developments, marketing and management of agriculture, it will provide
opportunity for employees to voice their
opinion and comment.
We embrace the idea that business serves a
purpose in our world that goes beyond Naira and Kobo, and that a responsible and
sustainable enterprise can be a vehicle for
progress.
We believe these higher goals don’t contra-
dict the quest for profitability. On the con-trary, we’re convinced businesses that
reflect and embody them will be tomorrow’s
leaders.
We are passionately interested in the nitty-
gritty of what makes agri-businesses really work and celebrate the creative people in
all types of agro-allied business, at all lev-
els, who inspire innovation.
Thank you all my colleagues and all that
contributed to the success of this first edition. More importantly I want to sincerely
say thank you, to the brain behind this publi-cation, who supported it and ensured this
vision is actualized no other person than
the MD/CEO of Makakwute Innovative Ltd.

What is Soya Beans
Soybeans, which are also known as soya beans, are a species of legume that have become one of the most widely consumed
foods in the world. They are extremely use-ful for human health, and they are easy to
cultivate as well. They are produced in greatest numbers in the United States and
South America, but they are actually native
to East Asia.
Their scientific name is Glycine max, and
they are classified as an oil seed, rather
than a pulse, like most legumes. Soybeans
have become so wildly important and popu-
lar in recent decades because of the rise of
soy food’s popularity, including soy milk and
textured vegetable protein.
The high levels of protein make it an ideal protein source for vegetarians, and the wide variety of soy products has created a
massive new market.
One of the reasons it is so widely cultivated
is because it contains more protein per
acre of land than any other crop. They grow
up to 2 meters in height and is a green, low
-lying plant. The soy protein are so univer-
sally useful that this small, unassuming
bean has become globally significant.
Furthermore, soybeans are packed with
other essential nutrients, making it ex-
tremely important for people on diets, those who need to improve their general
health, and vegetarians and vegans
throughout the world.
We can talk about the importance of soy-
beans all day, but why are they so im-
portant? What exactly is contained in these wonderful beans? Let’s take a closer look
at the nutritional facts of soybeans.
Vol 1 Issue 1 Page 2
Soybeans has a wealth of health bene-
fits, including the ability to improve the metabolism, help people gain weight in
a healthy way, protect heart-health,
defend against cancer, reduce the effects of menopause, improve diges-
tive health, promotes bone health,
protect against birth defects, increase
circulation, decrease the risk of diabe-
tes, and generally tones up the body.
Soybeans Nutritional Facts
The many health benefits of soybeans
comes from the wealth of nutrients, vita-mins, organic compounds, and other
nutrients, including a significant amount of dietary fiber and a very large amount
of protein. In terms of vitamins, soybeans contains vitamin K, riboflavin, folate, vita-
min B6, thiamin, and vitamin C. As for
minerals, soybeans contain significant
amounts of iron, manganese, phospho-
rous, copper, potassium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and calcium. It is also a
good source of organic compounds and
antioxidants, further boosting the healthy
impact of soybeans.
Health Benefits of Soybeans
The many health benefits of soybeans
include the following:
Improve Metabolic Activity
As mentioned above, soybeans are an
extremely important source of protein. When you have enough proteins in your
body, then your metabolic functioning and overall system will get a major
boost. Proteins are the building blocks of cells and blood vessels and basically
every essential part of the human body.
Proteins from soybeans ensure the prop-
er health and regrowth of cells if they
need to be repaired or replaced. It can be difficult to get enough protein when
you follow a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle,
so soybeans provide an excellent re-
placement for the proteins normally ac-
quired in red meat, chicken, eggs, dairy
products, and fish.
More on this subject will be continued
in next issue of the Lã-Mida

Fish farming in Nigeria is a very lucrative business and it is mainly boosted by the
continuous rise in the demand for cat-fish. This trend, therefore, makes catfish
business the most popular form of fish
farming in Nigeria.
Whether you are just starting aquacul-
ture with the hope of making just an ex-
tra income or going into full scale com-
mercial production, you have to know
basics of catfish farming business.
Luck will not help you in fish farming
business, otherwise you will lose all your
hard earned money and savings, you
must understand the integrities of the
business such as the target market, the
production target, stocking density, wa-
ter condition, pond types and system,
with good production plan.
First you have to know the following:
Common Species
Hatchery
Feed Type
Feeding Method
Common Species
The most common species found in
Nigeria are; Clarias gariepinus, Hetero-
branchus bidorsalis, Clarias Hetero-
branchus hybrid (Heteroclarias) and
Clarias nigro-digitatus.
Notwithstanding the popularity of cat-
fish farming in Nigeria, the fish farming
industry can best be described as being
at the elementary stage when com-
pared to the large market potential for
its production and marketing.
This is mainly due to unavailability of
juveniles, because of lack of adequate
infrastructure for hatcheries and fin-
gerling production.
Building a road to Breakthrough to Catfish Farm
business
Clarias Gariepinus
“At Makakwute we
hatch and breed only
Clarias, we do not cross
breed or produce
hybrid”.
“The first rule of luck in
business is that you should
persevere. Opportunity
will come your way if you
do persevere and under-
stand the business...”
- Ronald Cohen
UK Venture Capitalist (1945)
Hatchery
If you intend to go into catfish farming
in Nigeria, the first thing you have to
get hold of is the juveniles, most peo-
ple may want to stock fingerlings or
post-fingerlings, but I strongly recom-
mend juveniles, during the seminar in
December 2015/January 2016 I ex-
plained why the juveniles is preferred
to fingerlings.
You may want to hatch for yourself
and grow them to juveniles, you should
be sure the source of the brood-stock,
make sure the hatchery is equipped
properly to handle climate and water
issues which is one of the critical
problem in managing hatchery, also
hatch using the organic system, avoid
inducing the female with harmful
chemical injections, which may cause
their dropping from first 10 days of
their life.
There are many problems that can
develop in the hatchery, extra care is
needed to be given to the fry or larvae
during the first week of life. In this
regard, you have to battle with provi-
sion of zooplankton which serves as
feeds for the larvae, fry and finger-
lings thus playing a major role on their
growth and survival.
There are also the problem of canni-
balism, and the abiotic challenges
such as water temperature, dissolved
oxygen and levels of ammonia.

However, development of aquaculture
is completely hindered by inherent
problems of developing nations such
as lack of adequate infrastructural

for fish farming and investment in
aquaculture in Nigeria.

When feeding, it is advisable to cre-

The number one valued asset of any com-
pany is her employees, at Makakwute Innovative Ltd, we value the contributions
and hard work of our employees. We will take a bit of time to discuss how you can
differentiate Good employees from Bad one.
Good and Bad Employee How do you differentiate a bad employee from the good one? You must be think-
ing what kind of a question is this, it’s simple, and a good employee portrays
good employee qualities like punctuality, dependability, a perfect team member
and most importantly a very hard work-er. The bad employees are just the op-
posite. In the office, we all want to be a good employee and inspire others to be
one, but there are certain personality traits of a good employee that you must
possess in order to become a good employee.
So, you must be curious to know the
personality traits and good work qualities of a good employee!
Here are some of the Qualities that Dif-ferentiate the Good Employees from the Rest:
The good employees are always ready to
take chances. They love to take up the challenges irrespective of how hard
things turn up to be. Stagnant employees never think of taking the plunge, they are
happy sitting in one corner and clapping for their fellow colleagues.
Flexibility is the key: Good employee will display the immense amount of flexibility and would be ready
to accept any kind of job that is offered to him. He carries a positive attitude and is
eager to provide his best to the work that is on his hand. A good employee is never
afraid of taking on new responsibilities.
Self – motivated: In order to grow at work place the good
employee makes it a point to motivate themselves to learn more about the job.
Keep up themselves with the latest up-dates about the work and gives complete
dedication to their job. They don’t look up to someone else to motivate instead the
work they do acts as an inspiration.
Organized completely: As a good employee, you are expected to
know your role and the responsibilities you will have to share. So, after the com-
pletion of those, the good employee will be proactively helping their managers
with their share of work as it will help him gain knowledge of the responsibilities
that a manager has.
Knowledgeable about the goal: The quality of a good employee is that he
works with the future goals in mind. He works towards achieving the goal of the
project on a broader aspect.
Get your work done: If you are a good employee, then you
must have enough support to make things done with support from others. When
required, others will help you in complet-ing your task just because you have also
helped them in the time of their need.
Positive energy:
Good employees always have positive aura all around them and you will enjoy
working along with them. They are always ready to provide their useful suggestions
in getting things done and at times they hide away from limelight and do their
work quietly. No matter how they are doing it, but the important thing is that they are getting it done successfully.
Love what they do: If you are not doing things that you love,
then there is no way you can give your best to the job. Therefore, this is one trait
that differentiates a good employee from others. You have to love your job com-
pletely in order to be the best in it other-wise you won’t be able to perform better.
Patient in nature:
Doesn’t get hyper if something goes wrong, instead keeps his cool during the
period and solves the problem without creating a fuss. The good employee will
never repeat his mistakes and will not go on back foot just to escape the situation.
He would rather go all out of his way to solve the issue.
Time management:
In order to be good at what you do, you really need to manage your time very
well by prioritizing the work you have on your hand. You must not postpone any
work that involves more than one depart-ment in it because that means due to
your fault, all other departments will also suffer. It is not only about managing your
time well, instead you must be able to manage the time of your boss effectively too.
On the next issue of the Lã-Mida more
information on work place will be
published

We have also made tremendous progress
in stabilizing the quality of our products
e.g. catfish feed and full fat soya as there
are no complaint of complication reported
after use of products.
In the area of catfish, we have also stocked
our ponds and made numerous supplies to
customers as our fish hatchery is fully in
operations. We have also expanded our horizon to a certain degree and we hope
for market expansion in the nearest future.
Mr. Ashadi Ubah
I has worked for the company for more
than 4years now, but despite the
thorns, setback due to economic re-
cession Makakwute still stands on its
ground.
The owner of the company strongly
believed he can make it, I as a staff believed it too and that same believe
kept me going shoulder to shoulder with the company, because most of my
friends left when it was hard but I stayed to move with the company be-
cause of the strong believe the owner
had.
I Ubah said a big thank you to
Makakwute, management and staff because I has acquired much
knowledge about pigs, I knew nothing about piggery before joining the com-
pany but now I have many and more stories to tell about pigs starting from
piglets to adult.
I am happy working with Makakwute
and will always be. Management should
fulfil their promises to staff as things
gets better and getting request in time
to staff to carry out their duties effec-
tively.

At Lehae farms, processing food demands attention to details from the staff at the fish dry section.
Fishes are harvested fresh from the ponds accord-
ing to the sizes the customer required. They are
carefully slaughtered, thoroughly washed, and the
belly carefully cut open and intestine and the gills removed, we leave absolutely nothing in the belly
only whole fish for your enjoyment.
Once they are thoroughly washed and rinsed, we placed them in the oven, carefully curled without
any stick holding, it required a special skill to curl a fish without a stick. We do not dry with electric
oven nor do we dry with fire wood.
We only dry our fishes using the heat from char-
coal, the oven is specifically constructed to inhibit
direct flame, also has chambers that allows only
the heat to penetrate and tenderly roast and dry
the fishes.
For this reason our fishes once it is done has a
golden brown color with strong fresh aroma, it take
about three days to get it nice and fresh for your
enjoyment.
To us everything we produce, health is the primary
focus, we ensure fresh and healthy food from our
farm, should you wish to see how this process is
done, feel free to call us using the numbers below,
and the farm supervisor will be delighted to take
you on tour.
