I nt roduct ion The Mat r ikonOPC™ Server for Mark VI Direct provides real- t ime data ( read/ write) and alarms

(alarm dump, single alarm not ificat ion and acknowledgment) access to the GE Mark VI Turbine

Cont rollers. The OPC server can simultaneously communicate with mult iple cont rollers and provide

access to the points as well as the alarms informat ion in the GE Mark VI Cont rollers.

Figure 1 shows a typical architecture using the MatrikonOPC Server for Mark VI Direct .

W ho Should Use This Manual This m anual is intended for use by all users of the Mat r ikonOPC Server for Mark VI Direct .

This m anual explains how to configure the software, and how to perform com m on tasks. I n

addit ion (and where required) , technical inform at ion about OPC data items, product lim itat ions,

and a t roubleshoot ing sect ion are included.

Overview of Manual This document uses icons to highlight valuable informat ion. Remember these icons and what they

mean, as they will assist you throughout the manual.

A& E OPC Alarm s and Events. Provides access to process alarm and event data.

COM Com ponent Object Model. A m ethod for organizing software, specifying

how to build com ponents that can be dynam ically interchanged.

DA OPC Data Access. Provides access to real- t ime process data.

DCOM Dist r ibuted Com ponent Object Model. An extension of COM that allows

communicat ion between COM components over a network.

DDE Dynam ic Data Exchange. Allows the t ransfer of data between two running

applicat ions.

EGD Ethernet Global Data.

HDA OPC Histor ical Data Access. Provides access to histor ical process data.

HMI Human Machine I nterface. Device that allows interact ion between the user

and machine. Typically used in process cont rol applicat ions.

Matrikon Matrikon I nc.

MatrikonOPC Matrikon’s brand name for its OPC servers and clients.

OPC A com m unicat ion standard. Refer to w w w .opcfoundat ion.org for more

informat ion.

PLC Programmable Logic Cont roller.

Gett ing Started The System Requirem ents sect ion shows how to avoid future problem s by ensuring that the

system meets the m inimum software and hardware requirements. The I nstalled Files sect ion

provides a list of files that are installed with the product . For installat ion informat ion, refer to the

MatrikonOPC Server User’s Manual or the MatrikonOPC Universal Connect ivity Server User’s

Manual.

Once the software is installed, refer to the Licensing sect ion for informat ion on how to obtain the

appropriate license. The Licensing sect ion refers you to the Licensing Procedures document that

was installed along with the server and this User’s Manual. The Contact ing Support sect ion

provides you with contact informat ion for the Mat r ikonOPC Support team , should you have any

problems during the installat ion or licensing of the software.

System Requirem ents The software has Softw are and Hardw are system requirem ents. These requirements must be

m et for the software to funct ion properly.

Note: I f a firewall is installed on the computer host ing the

Mat r ikonOPC Server for Mark VI Direct , it m ust be configured to grant

the OPC server access to the EGD network, including mult icast and

broadcast com m unicat ion.

Softw are Requirem ents

At a m inim um , the following software is required:

• Microsoft Windows XP SP2, or

• Microsoft Windows 2003 SP0, or

• Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 ( included with this install program)

Note: I t is recom m ended that the most current service packs are

installed.

Hardw are Requirem ents

At a m inimum, the following hardware is recommended:

• I ntel® Pent ium® 4 Processor

• 512 MB RAM

• 40 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive

The product requires the following addit ional hardware to m ake use of the following funct ionality:

• TCP/ I P-compat ible network adapter

I nstalled Files The installat ion program copies all necessary files to the target com puter and creates short -cut

icons in the Start menu.

The files specific to the server listed in Table 2 are installed by default in the following locat ion:

C:\ Program Files\ Matr ikon\ OPC\ Mark VI Direct

Licensing Most Mat r ikonOPC products require that some form of licensing criter ia be met for it to funct ion

correct ly.

The Mat r ikonOPC Server for Mark VI Direct supports software licensing only .
