PERFORMANCE and MAINTENANCEThisreverseosmosissystemcontainsreplaceabletreatmentcomponentscriticalfortheeffectivereductionoftotaldissolvedsolids(TDS).Testtheproductwaterquarterlytoverifythatthesystemisperformingsatisfactorily.ThissystemhasbeentestedandverifiedbyNSFInternationalandtheWQAthatitwilldecreasethedischargeofproductwaterby50%orgreaterat500gallons.Thisshutdownpre-ventstheeffluentcontaminantlevelfromexceedingtheEPA’smaximumcontaminantlevelundernormaloperatingconditions.Torestoreservice,replaceboththeprefilterandpostfiltercartridges.Annualreplacementisrecommendedevenifyoursystemhasnotyetshutdown.Seethechartabovetoselectcartridgesforyoursystem.ThesecartridgesareavailablethroughyourlocalKineticodealer.Youmayopttohavetheproductwatertestedatthistimetoverifyperformance.Foroperationandmaintenanceinformation,consulttheowner’smanual.InstallationinstructionsareavailableforreviewfromyourauthorizedKineticodealer.

Thissystemhasbeentestedforthetreatmentofwatercontainingpentavalentarsenic(alsoknownasAs(V),As(+5),andarsenate)atconcentrationsof0.30mg/Lorless.Thissystemreducespentavalentarsenic,butmaynotremoveotherformsofarsenic.Thissystemistobeusedonwatersuppliescontainingadetectablefreechlorineresidualatthesysteminletoronwatersuppliesthathavebeendemonstratedtocontainonlypentavalentarsenic.Treatmentwithchloramine(combinedchlorine)isnotsufficienttoensurecompleteconversionoftrivalentarsenictopentavalentarsenic.

Arsenic(abbreviatedAs)isfoundnaturallyinsomewellwater.Arsenicinwaterhasnocolor,tasteorodor.Itmustbemeasuredbyalabtest.Publicwaterutilitiesmusthavetheirwatertestedforarsenic.Youcangettheresultsfromyourwaterutility.Ifyouhaveyourownwell,youcanhavethewatertested.Yourlocalhealthdepartmentorstateenvironmentalhealthagencycanprovidealistofcerti-fiedlabs.Thecostistypically$15to$30.YoucanfindinformationaboutarsenicinwaterontheInternetattheUSEnvironmentalProtectionAgencywebsite:www.epa.gov/safewater/arsenic.html.

Therearetwoformsofarsenic:pentavalentarsenic(alsocalledAs(V),As(+5)andarsenate)andtrivalentarsenic(alsocalledAs(III),As(+3),andarsenite).Inwellwater,arsenicmaybepentavalent,trivalentoracombinationofboth.Labsrequirespecialsamplingpro-cedurestodeterminewhattypeandhowmuchofeachtypeofarsenicisinthewater.Checkwiththelabsinyourareatoseeiftheycanprovidethistypeofservice.

Reverseosmosis(RO)watertreatmentsystemsdonotremovetrivalentarsenicfromwaterverywell.ROsystemsareveryeffectiveatremovingpentavalentarsenic.Afreechlorineresidualwillrapidlyconverttrivalentarsenictopentavalentarsenic.Otherwatertreat-mentchemicalssuchasozoneandpotassiumpermanganatewillalsochangetrivalentarsenictopentavalentarsenic.Acombinedchlo-rineresidual(alsocalledchloramine)maynotconvertallthetrivalentarsenic.Ifyougetyourwaterfromapublicwaterutility,contacttheutilitytofindoutiffreechlorineorcombinedchlorineisusedinthewatersystem.

TheDrinkingWaterSystemPlusDeluxeisdesignedtoremovepentavalentarsenic.Itwillnotconverttrivalentarsenictopentavalentarsenic.Thesystemwastestedinalab.Underthoseconditions,thesystemreduced0.30mg/L(ppm)pentavalentarsenicto0.010mg/L(ppm)(theUSEPAstandardfordrinkingwater)orless.Theperformanceofthesystemmaybedifferentatyourinstallation.Havethetreatedwatertestedforarsenictocheckifthesystemisworkingproperly.

YoumustperiodicallyreplacetheROcomponent*oftheDrinkingWaterSystemPlusDeluxetoensurethesystemwillcontinuetoremovepentavalentarsenic.ThecomponentidentificationandlocationswhereyoucanpurchasethecomponentarelistedinthisPerformanceDataSheet,theOwner’sManualandtheinstallationinstructionsforyoursystem.

Inmostdrinkingwatersources,theinorganicformofarsenictendstobemorepredominantthanorganicforms.Inorganicarsenicindrinkingwatercanexerttoxiceffectsafteracute(short-term)orchronic(long-term)exposure.Althoughacuteexposuresto highdosesofinorganicarseniccancauseadverseeffects,suchexposuresdonotoccurfrompublicwatersuppliesintheU.S.atthecurrentMCLof50 µg/L.EPA'sproposeddrinkingwaterregulationaddressesthelong-term,chroniceffectsofexposuretolowconcentrationsofinorganicarsenicindrinkingwater.Chroniceffectsatlowconcentrationsinclude:
