Eucharistic Adoration is the traditional Catholic practice of taking the consecrated host, the Blessed Sacrament, and placing it in a sun-shaped vessel called a Monstrance in order for the faithful to look upon Our Lord and pray to Him in peaceful contemplation. You are invited to join us every Wednesday (unless otherwise noted) in the Cathedral from 2:30—5:00 p.m. for Adoration and some quiet reflection and prayer.

Nocturnal Adoration is held in the Holy Cross Chapel on the First Friday night of each month from 8:00—10:00 p.m.

The Rosary is prayed after the 9:00 a.m. Mass each Monday through Friday in the Cathedral except on Saturdays when it is prayed after the 7:45 a.m. Mass.

Devotions

Stewardship Reflection In today’s Gospel, Jesus rebukes the storm and asks His disciples about their faith. Does your faith teeter when things get tough?

Living Stewardship . . . Pillar of Service This week, practice the pillar of service by doing something special for someone else. It could be helping a relative with a project, doing extra chores for your spouse or sibling, or making a gift to your parish or the DRVC’s Catholic Ministries Appeal.

7 TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

FROM THE RECTOR —

Dear Friends, Last Friday, on June 11th, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we celebrated the graduation ceremonies for our parish elementary school. This has been a year like no other. Our students and faculty handled this difficult year with tremendous grace and dignity. We graduated 78 students from our school. I’m tremendously proud of all they have done and have accomplished. A simple glimpse into that accomplishment

are the scholarships they received to attend a Catholic high school. Those scholarships when added up were over $230,000. During our graduation Mass I invited our graduates to keep the Holy Eucharist and the Blessed Mother at the center of their lives. As they go forth into high school and beyond, that will be the key to all their future endeavors- Jesus and His Mother Mary. Join me in congratulating our graduates and praying for them! Congratulations STAGS Class of 2021! In our Lord and Blessed Lady,

9 TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dispensation from Mass

Currently, the dispensation from the requirement to attend Sunday Mass in person remains in effect. The Diocese will end the dispensation on the weekend of August 14/15.

Parish Outreach

The Parish Outreach is able to receive clean spring and summer clothing only. Food donations are always appreciated. We are especially in need of grape jelly, individual juices, rice and canned fruit. You may call the office at 678-1854 with any questions. Please do not leave any donations on the porch outside the Outreach office when the office is closed. We will gladly accept donations between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except for holidays.

Thank you for your understanding.

Love, Sr. Kathleen

Will you pray for vocations? As we all know, the Catholic

Church needs more priests, as well as religious brothers and sisters. We encourage you to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood or religious life, especially from within our parish and our school.

Face the Truth Pro– Life Event Pro-life Face the Truth event is on Saturday, July 3, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm (come for all or part of the time); on the public sidewalk along Route 347, Lake Grove (near Smith Haven Mall). Without the Right to LIFE we have no other rights! Pro-lifers continue to be challenged to defend the right to LIFE enumerated in the Declaration of Independence. We are called to take a public stand to declare that the right to life starts in the womb. Pro-lifers are asked to join this Face the Truth event to be a witness against the tragedy of abortion (participants must be peaceful & lawful). Rain or shine. Signs available (parking lot near Staples, near sidewalk). Sponsored by Long Island Coalition for Life: 631-243-1435; [email protected]; Instagram (LIcoalitionlife).

Summer Schedule Begins Please note the Summer schedule begins the weekend of June 27th. We will continue to celebrate the 10:30 a.m. Mass in the Parish Center over the summer, due to its popularity. However, because we will not have any summer priests this year, we will be suspending the 8:00 a.m. Mass in the Cathedral for the months of July and August beginning July 4th. Those weekly intentions previously arranged for the Sunday 8:00 a.m. Mass will be offered at the 10:30 a.m. Mass in the Parish Center. Beginning on the weekend of September 12th, the Saturday 7:30 p.m. Mass and the Sunday 10:30 a.m. will resume in the Lower Hall. The Cathedral and Parish Center are air conditioned for your comfort, and with the summer months upon us, we tend toward a more relaxed way of life as well as dress. Please be conscious of proper attire for church. Thank you for your understanding.

Newly Ordained Priests God bless our newly ordained priests for the Diocese of Rockville Centre: Rev. Joseph Catafago, Rev. Michael Lombardi and Rev. Dominik Wegiel. Bishop Barres ordained these three men to the priesthood on June 19th at a Mass of Priestly Ordination at St. Agnes Cathedral. The newly ordained priests will be assigned to parishes in our diocese where each will serve in the role of associate pastor.

10 June 20, 2021

The people of the Parish of St. Agnes Cathedral extend their heartfelt congratulations, prayers and blessings to our former Rector.

11 TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Who Is in Control? As we continue through Saint Mark’s Gospel, the day of teaching by the sea has concluded, and Jesus suggests crossing over to the other side. It has been a

long day, and he falls asleep. Surely we can sympathize with that. Then a violent storm arises. Yet Jesus continues to sleep, even as the boat is filling up with water. When his disciples wake him, he rebukes the wind and the sea— and then there is calm. This is an exercise of divine power, which draws to mind the mighty deeds of the Old Testament, such as the crossing of the Red Sea. So why does Jesus ask the disciples: “Why were you terrified?” It seems obvious, but Jesus wants something more. Jesus uses this moment to draw the disciples into a deeper understanding of how they are to relate to God. God is greater than the storms. He is the one who is truly in control of our lives. But do we really believe that? Every storm we encounter presents another opportunity to trust God and to rely on his providential care.

Dear God, Bless all fathers. Let them feel Your presence with them. May they know that

Your strength and wisdom are within them, providing all they need to guide and support their children with kindness and love. Happy Father’s Day!

This is the last week of school. The children will be in session on Monday June 21st-Wednesday, June 23rd. Monday and Tuesday are 12 noon dismissals. Wednesday is a 10 A.M. dismissal. The Common Core Algebra 1 Regents will be administered to the 8th graders who are participating in this year’s exam on Wednesday, June 23rd. The Earth Science Regents exam will be administered on Thursday, June 24th. Both exams will be administered in the morning in the Parish Center. As I reflect upon the past year, I would like to thank The School Board, Mothers’ Club, Fathers’ Club, and Parent-School Association for all their help and assistance during the school year. These school organizations are the backbone of the school. Special thanks to Mrs. Kerri Davi, School Board President, Mr. Dave Blyth, Fathers’ Club President, Mrs. Katie O’Rourke, Mothers’ Club President, and Mrs. Heather Murray, Parent-School Association President. The amount of time the organizations spend in running events and raising money for the school is so appreciated. I enjoy working with each organization and look forward to working with the incoming presidents next year. This was an unprecedented school year. The students and teachers wore masks in school, hand sanitized throughout the day, and kept socially distanced. Needless to say, we have successfully completed the 2020-21 school year. It had its challenges, but we successfully navigated through them. The first day of school for children entering grades 1-8 with Last Names A-L will be on Wednesday, September 8th. It will be a full day. The first day of school for children entering grades 1-8 with Last Names M-Z will be on Thursday, September 9th. It will be a full day. All students in grades 1-8 are in attendance for a full day on Friday, September 10th. The first day of Kindergarten, Last Names M-Z, is Thursday, September 9th. The first day of Kindergarten, Last Names A-L, will be on Friday, September 10th. If you need to contact the school during the summer months, please know that the email will be checked regularly. I wish you all a safe and happy summer and I look forward to seeing your children in the fall. Peace and blessings for a safe and relaxing summer vacation! Mrs. Cecilia St. John Principal

¡Muchas Gracias!

Every day, people in our community are helped because of support from funds raised through the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Today, consider a Dad like James. James saw information about the Catholic Ministries Appeal at his local parish, and he knew he had to turn to the Church for help since he had nowhere else to go. James had been gainfully employed for more than 10 years when he began to fall ill. Soon his medical issues made it impossible for him to keep working and he was forced to go out on disability. After paying the co-pays on his medications, his family's rent and utilities bills, James had very little left to purchase food and other necessities for his family. It was hard for him to ask for help, but with nowhere else to turn, he did. Catholic Charities found him a specialist who assessed the family's needs and directed them to appropriate resources in their community. He went to his Parish Outreach, where his family received food that allowed them to make it through the month. James and his family received the help they so desperately needed. Today, James is back to work and the family is doing well. "I am so thankful that I know there is somewhere I can turn, where there are people that care, people I can talk to, if I am ever in such a situation again," shared James.

Please consider donating to the Appeal and

making a difference in the lives of others.
